With the CAT testing window starting on 16th Oct 2013 and your preparation drawing towards a close, it is time to decide on the B-Schools you would like to apply to. The notifications of many B-Schools is have come out and for some of them the last date for application is approaching. Do keep a track of the notification and the last dates, browse the newspaper everyday, especially on weekends. The last dates are very important and you should not miss out on an application deadline because of carelessness.
Parameters to finalise your wish list:
Let us closely evaluate each of the above mentioned parameters and check out the decision points. Your Percentile – as per CL Percentile Predictor and your Mock CAT scores: This is the most important parameter to decide on which B-Schools one should apply to. The percentiles give you an idea of your potential, both overall and sectional. Given the huge number of students who take CL Proc Mocks the percentiles you get is a safe indicator of what to expect on the D-Day. Past experience has shown that the actual CAT percentiles are a shade above the percentile which students get in the CL Proc Mocks. Typically one should zero in on the highest percentile and the median percentile one has scored in the ProcMocks. Your range of applying to the B-Schools should be from five percentile below your median percentile to five percentile above your highest percentile. For example, if your highest percentile is 90 and median percentile is 80 then you should be applying to institutes whose cutoffs range from 75 to 95 percentile. Sometimes the range could be very high, in which case one needs to cherry pick a few from each bracket. The above list can be further fine tuned after analyzing your actual performance in CAT. Based on the number of attempts and the accuracy percentage you generally maintain in the ProcMocks, one should estimate the net score. You could then project your percentile on the basis of the analysis given on the CL website. The final list should be prepared after taking into consideration both – the performance in the ProcMocks and the actual performance on the D-Day. Do remember that you are only guesstimating the actual performance. Hence we feel that the performance in the ProcMocks should be a better parameter to decide. Sectional cutoffs are critical only for institutes which have cutoffs in excess of 90 percentile. Even amongst the institutes which require sectional cutoffs, barring the top IIMs and the IITs, most of the sectional cutoffs are in the range of 60-80. Moreover with CAT having only two sections, that too timed, one should not worry about sectional cutoffs while applying. One should also remember that CAT scores are not the only deciding factor for getting calls. Past academic performance and work experience matters for certain institutes. Some institutes are giving preference to non-engineers and females.
Note: 1. In addition to the above institutes, there are certain specialized programs offered Current occupation: Case I: Fresher in final year of graduation without a job in hand You have age and time on your side so you can be a bit selective while applying. You should be looking at institutes only in Category B and above. If your scores are not good enough to match this, it is better to give yourself another year. Prepare further and improve your scores. Do not compromise so early. If you decide to wait, do try to keep yourself busy with some job or professional course alongside your preparation. Case II: Fresher in final year of graduation with a job in hand (CTC > 4 lakh per annum) You already have a decent job in hand so you should be very selective while applying. You should be looking at institutes only in Category A and above. If your scores are not good enough to match this, it is better to gather some work experience and then take CAT later. Perhaps it would make sense to look at CAT 2014 as it would ensure that you have work experience of almost two years. This would enhance your chances of selection to the top B-Schools. Case III: Graduated in 2012/13 and currently not working Try applying to as many institutes as you can which fall in the range of your percentiles. Ideally, you should be looking at institutes in Category B and above. But if your scores are not good enough, you could consider a few institutes in Category C. It is suggested that you do not rush in selecting an institute. Many institutes in Category C will keep extending their last dates well beyond Jan/Feb 2013, so please wait till all your actual tests like XAT/SNAP/NMAT etc. are over. Even after that, we would strongly recommend a physical visit to institutes which you have shortlisted in Category C before taking the final plunge. Case IV: Working for less than 2 years Depending on your current organization and salary, you will have to take a call. But under no circumstances should you be looking at institutes below Category B+. Your decision should also be influenced with factors such as past CAT experience, your temperament, family issues and your growth potential in your present job. Case V: Working for more than 2 years You are already settled in your job and drawing a reasonably good salary. You will have to be very selective while applying. You should only look at institues in Category A and above. There are institutes like IIM Bangalore, S.P.Jain, Great Lakes who have a strong bias towards people of your background. You should definitely be considering them. Also most of the other top B-Schools including IITs give extra points to people with work experience. Even with a below par CAT percentile, you could fancy your chances in these institutes. As in Case IV, your decision should also be influenced with factors such as past CAT experience, temperament, family issues, opportunity cost of pursuing MBA, growth potential in your present job and the current industry scenario. This might be a good time to take a break from the corporate world and go back to an educational institute. Alternate Career Options: This parameter needs to be looked at only if you have a very strong second line of career choice. Engineering students considering M-Tech, MS etc. should weigh the pros and cons of both careers and then decide. Non-engineering students pursuing CA/CS should be only looking at institutes in Category A and above. Situational ability to wait for another attempt at CAT This would comprise many factors such as age, temperament, family background, financial issues and opportunity cost of pursuing MBA. Combination of all the above parameters should be looked at to prepare the final wish list. You should apply to a few extra institutes to give yourself more choices later. It is always better to leave an institute after being selected rather than living with a regret of not having applied. The experience gained in the personality assessment round goes a long way in helping in further applications. No doubt each application comes with a cost, but do not try to save a few thousand rupees. Do remember that you are chasing a course which would cost you in lakhs. ——————————————————————————————————————————– |
Sir, could you please rank the following colleges in terms of overall factors ?
NMIMS Bangalore, LBSIM, Welingkar Mumbai.
Nancy, you can refer to our article Jayein toh Jayein kahan for the order of preference.
Hello Sir, i answered cat 2015 and cmat 2016 and scored 60 and 84.93 percentile respectively. I am provisionally admitted to IFMR Chennai, subjected to availability of seats and time when my cheque or DD reaches IFMR office. I have receive GDPI call from welingkar.
i score 74.83 percentage in tenth and 69.50 percentage in twelfth, state board examination and 62.50 in Bachelor of Engineering (GOA university ). I have a work experience of 9 months in Technology Business Incubator and presently i am working in finance service industry. Depending on my profile, should i join IFMR or Welingkar or i should answer cat and cmat once again? i am interested in finance and looking for PGDM course with little more focus on finance. Return on investment and lifestyle is a major issue for me as my expenses will be on loan that will be sanctioned and my savings.
Varad, you should retake CAT and the other MBA exams. Target MBA programmes from top B-schools.
cat14 attempted 65 questions(first attempt without prepration)
and scored:
OA&DI -5
VA&LR 46.62
total 41.10 (35.39%)
10th 65%
12th 76.33%
grad. (bcom hons) 61.92%
P.G(mcom) 55%
i am preparing for CAT15
can u please suggest me whether i have a scope in this field… is it too late for me for CAT?? which way do i go?
what can be my expected percentile??
whether i should apply to some B-school ?
Shweta, did you take any other MBA entrances also? If yes please let me know your scores.
no sir.. not yet…but this year i am thinking of trying other exams also… please guide me…
and i would also like to inform you that have completed my P.G in 2014
Shweta, 65 attempts for a 41%ile indicates very high error rate and possibly lack of fundamentals. Since you did not prepare at all and just took the test it will be difficult to say if you can or cannot do well. You will need to give a serious shot at CAT and it is still not late if you are willing to put in about 30 hours a week for the first 4 months after which you could bring this down to about 23-23 hours per week. With average acads you will need a good CAT score for the top IIMs but the others will also need over 99%ile. Most of the non-IIMs have any no/low weight for past acads an a score of 97%ile can get you calls from almost all of them. Your gender (female) and academic stream (commerce) will also be helpful as some of the IIMs give extra points for these.
thanku so much sir…. this time i’l try to do my best…
GP sir
Shud management courses being offered by IIT delhi , Bombay or NITIE be preferred over new IIMs or JBIMS , SPJIMR and MDI etc . Thanks
Arun, please refer to my post Jayein toh jayein kahaan 2015: Which Institute?
I scored 81.67 percentile in CAT 2k14.
I’m currently pursuing Computer engineering (last semester).
I haven’t been placed yet but offered a job of 1.2lac per annum.
I want to get into a premier MBA college.
What are my options with me!? Which colleges should I aim for?
And would u recommend taking a job and then doing MBA or join as freshers for MBA?
Hello GP Sir,
I have more than 2 years of Exp. 1 year in a Steel Industry and 1 year in a leading Software MNC of the country.
My 10th marks-80, 12th-70.5 and grad-69.9
I am expecting a score of 85% in CAT.
I wanted to ask that will my experience in core as well as Software Industry could be an advantage or a disadvantage in the Selection process. I am preferably aiming for NMIMS,XLRI and SCMHRD in HR.
Thanks,
Vivek
Vivek, a score of 85%ile in CAT may not get you calls from any good institute and hence SNAP/XAT become important for you. Your experience will be an advantage in the interview.
Hello sir
I am current CL student and my profile is as follows-
X-90%
XII-86.4%
Engineering(2013 batch)-73%
work ex-8 months(Accenture)
currently not working but would start working after CAT
Cat percentile predictor most probable- 92.5
Cat percentile predictor best shot- 99.41
I also have a lot extra curricular activities in my profile .Can you please help me out as to what forms i should fill ? and what collages i should be aiming for with my profile?
Dear Akshaya,
You must certainly apply to 1- SP Jain, 2- MDI, 3- FMS 4- IIT Mumbai and Delhi; and if you wish to go for some back up options, then you can also look at IMT and IMI.
Please refer to the B school advisor in the CL Exam Corner for more institutes.

Hi
I am a 26 yr old Chartered Accountant with 18 months experience (2 years by the time I join a pgp) in risk management in Kuwait with a Middle East Conglomerate (Retail Division – Electronics, Home Furnishings, E-commerce, with operations in Kuwait, UAE & KSA). The Company is a regional giant with people from more than 60 countries. Recruited from CA campus, I supervise a team of 7 and directly report to Financial Controller, with my superiors being alumni of Insead, Harvard, Tuck & IIMs. My reports are circulated at VP & Directors’ levels.
My scores:
X – 86%
XII – 89.4%
B.Com. – 54%
CA – 51% (2nd attempt, missed the 1st by 1 mark)
PGDIB (Dist. Learning) from SCDL – 73.5%
I’m gunning for the following (in order of priority):
1. XLRI HRM
2. SPJIMR PGDM
3. XLRI BM
My GMAT preparations are almost complete. Do you believe I have realistic chance of entry? If yes, then SPJ states its GMAT cutoff to be 650, so what do you think would be a safe score for ultimately getting an admit?
Thanks
P.S.
MY CTC is 25 lakhs (if it matters)
And my low scores after schooling correspond to me getting ‘best article’ award from my articleship firm.
Dear Sukrit,
Yes, you have a decent chance of selection. Your acads are on the lower side but your work experience and profile add a lot of value to your candidature. Ideally, you should target a GMAT score of 700+ in order to have a very good chance of getting an admit.
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I botched up my gmat and scored 670

While filling up September 2014 MAT form till which date should I consider my work experience? There is no clear mention of it anywhere in AIMA website?
Samip, your total work experience at the time of filling the form.
Hello Sir,
Could you please throw some light on the method employed by the colleges to calculate the percentage for eligibility.I’m in a dilemma as my percentage for 4 years combined is 49% however my degree percentage which is calculated for the last two years is 57%. The percentage mentioned in my final engineering degree marksheet is also 57%.Am i eligible to apply to most colleges ? My ProcMock scores have been in the range of 8x.xx percentile. Please suggest colleges i’m eligible for.
Thanks in advance.
Shashank, most of the institutes (especially the IIMs) take the marks of all 4 years into consideration for calculating the percentage and hence with 49% you will not be eligible for these institutes that have a minimum 50% inh graduation as the eligibility criteria.
Hi,
Could you please suggest colleges that accept degree percentage for eligibility criteria. Thanks in advance.
Shashank, will need to wait for the notifications. CAT is rued out for you but XAT is possible and we will need to look at XAT affiliated colleges. XLRI for example does not have a 50% in graduation requirement. The number of such institutes however is however very low.
Can you please let me that why on this blog SRCC GBO is being ranked a B category college and IMT Nagpur at C?
Sir i have been selected in xime, imt nagpur finance and srcc GBO.I have experience of 2.10 years of experience in IT sector and slary is 3.45. Now i am thinking to take the course at SRCC as it can lot of option for me as international business course structure and also due to the reutation of that college.Past CAT experience not so good with scoring between 80-85. Please suggest as i think this is the right time to do an MBA as i am also not satisfied with my current profille. Please throw some light on SRCC GBO study envirment and it’s status among corporate world?
Thanks in advance for this awesome blog!!
Cheers
Shantanu, I am not sure if SRCC GBO is a good option for you since it has average placements. IMT Nagpur might be a better option. Alternately take GMAT and consider ISB Hyderabad and other 1 year MBA programs.
Sir although i did my b tech from chennai so it will be oms bt i have a maharashtra domicile and thus i fall in the type b category
Himanshu, your Home University is a function of the place/district that has issued your Domicile certificate. If it is Mumbai then you have a chance of making it to one of the top 3 institutes.
sir can u plz tell me the top 10 colleges of maharashtra with the avg salary over there.
i checked i couple of sites and forums bt got conflicting results.
Himanshu, while the top four (JBIMS, Sydenham, KJ Somaiya, Welingkar) select themselves the next few are close and there is not too much of the gap between them.
SIES, NL Dalmia, PUMBA, ITM Navi Mumbai are the next few followed by MET, Chetana, Xaviers and IES. No confirmed placement data is available for for these institutes outside the top four and you can assume them to be in the range of Rs 4-6 lakh pa. The best students from these can expect to get around Rs 6-7 lakh pa.
Sir I am a fresher with a job, CTC >4 Lac
I had a percentile of 95.85 this year bt did not get calls from any of the category A or A+ except iit r,iit k , imi n imt.
sir what i want to know is, if i had a work experience of two years , then at the same percentile would I have got better calls and if yes then what possibly could be the colleges
My X is 86 XII 85 and B.tech is 87.
I want to make a decision regarding on whether to try next year or not
also m a general category student
Himanshu, most of the MBA institutes have weightage for work experience and hence conversion is possibly easier. However for interview calls most of the institutes do not consider work experience. You have a good academic record and hence suggest that you go for a retake of CAT/XAT this year itself.
okay thanku sir….
also sir i had appeared for mht cet this year and this is the provisional ranking
State General Merit No 143
University General Merit No 115
All India Merit No 314
sir can u plz guide me relating to what can i possible get
Himanshu, which is your Home University?
i am dipyendu roy, i scored 80% in classX, 78% in class X11, 7.8 in btech.i am 29 years of age. i have worked for 1 yr in wipro call centre, i am presently working in sbi for 1 yr.is there any chance that i will get a call from iim a,b,c even if i score 100 percentile in cat 14-15 or 15-16…please please reply…my email id is roy.dipyendu@gmail.com
Dipyendu, I presume that you are a non-engineer hence with around 80% in X, XII, Graduation and a 2 year work experience calls are possible from most of the IIMs including A, B and C. IIMC typically requires over 99.5%ile others are possible at a score in excess of 99%ile.
Sir, my current stats
CET : 97.14
Category : OBC
Home University
what are my chances for JBIMS, Sydneham?
Apurv, both JBIMS and Sydenham are possible but it is a borderline case.
Sir,
I am working in IOC 1 year experience and have converted IBS Hyderabad (ICFAI Business School) and Suryadatta Pune. Which institute is better to join? I am open to all fields but would prefer finance.
Debashish, I am not sure if you should join either of these. What is your academic background, what are you working as in IOC and what is your salary?
Sir,
I have done electronics engineering in Modi Institute of Technology and I am currently working as an electronics engineer in IOC and have just completed my training period. I am having a salary of around Rs. 10 lakhs per annum.Sir, can you provide some idea of the packages offered to students graduating out of Suryadatta and IBS Hyderabad? Especially the top 10% of batch I heard gets packages which are close to this range that I get. I am wanting to do an MBA degree at any cost as soon as possible and that is the reason why I am eager to join an institute this year itself and these two are the only options that I have as of now. Also waitlisted in BIMTECH.
Debashish, Suryadatta and IBS Hyd are not recommended for you, their package is likely to be around 5 lakh pa. BIMTECH too is not recommended and you should restrict yourself to the Cluster 1 and 2 and in an extreme case can consider Cluster 3 instituters mentioned in the post Jayein toh jayein kahaan 2014: Which Institute?
sir my profile
10th-82%
12th-59%
doing engineering from a tier 2 college and have 2 yearbacks..my percentage would not be more than 50-55 range.so i never expect a iim call but what about like top 30-40 colleges.can i get admission as a fresher in such colleges or should i leave engineering and start some new graduation to improve my grades..i am a general candidate
patrice, you are right, the top IIMs are unlikely unless you get almost a 100%ile in CAT. However most of the top non IIMs have a low/no weight for past academics and hence calls and conversion are both possible. While most good colleges are possible at CAT a score of 95%ile, the top ones (SP Jain, MDI, NITIE, most IITs etc ) will require a CAT score of over 97%ile and IIT Mumbai/FMS will need a CAT score of 99%ile.
No point in dropping engineering and moving to a new course. Work hard here and prepare well for MBA entrances.
Hello sir,
I have two options in hand, SRCC(GBO) and NIBM (Pune). However, both the colleges have their own cons. There is nothing clear about the placements of SRCC (GBO) while on the other hand NIBM offers a course which is specially based on Banking, there by leaving very less opportunity for the students to explore options in other sectors.
So, which college according to you would be a better choice.. also i wanted to know that if i could work in finance sector after doing my MBA from NIBM.
Niharika, NIBM Pune is a safer option as it will open the entire finance sector for you. It has a better placement record.
Greetings sir,
i scored a 98.37 in my CAT . Having only applied for mdi n the new iims i converted all except shillong n mabe ranchi. Now ppl are telling me that mdi would be anyday better than the new iims.. However i would not like to lose the iim tag so i m pretty confused of which option to take
Thank you in advance sir. im in my final year in economics,DU n im highly indebted to CL for my results in both the exam n the pi round
Aditya, MDI and IIM Shillong are at par and all other IIMs are lower in terms of reputation, ranking and placements. Since you have not converted IIM Shillong go ahead with MDI, the IIM tag is helpful but not essential for a good institute. While I have a preference for IIM S but many others would prefer MDI and you can expect a very good career post MDI .
sir
i am in my final year of graduation due to finish in june 14.
10th=87%, 12th =91% , btech=78%(upto now),
my cat went horrible. i gave other exams as well and managed to convert sibm pune.
i also have a job offer from infosys.
i would like to know with my profile should i go for another attempt(working simultaneously) or join sibm.
Saurabh, SIBM Pune is a very good institute and you should consider joining it. With your excellent academic record you can consider a retake but only if you are sure of a 97%ile in CAT’14.
Please refer to the post “Jayein toh jayein kahaan 2014: Which Institute?” for my order of perference of institutes.
Hello sir, thank you so much for your prompt replies.
I have admission into BIM Trichy, awaiting KJ Somaiya results. Unlikely that I make it in, but would like to ask you this, just to be prepared.
You’d previously said you prefer BIM over KJ. But wouldn’t Mumbai be an exponentially better option in terms of exposure?
A little apprehensive about Trichy.
Archana, BIM is my preference over KJ Somaiya but the gap between the two is negligible and so you could choose Mumbai over Trichy. Choose the institute that you are comfortable with. While the location is an advantage for KJ Somaiya, the small batch size is an advantage for BIM.
Thank you sir.
Unexpectedly, got an acceptance email today, for Great Lakes 2 year PGDM program.
Would you recommend that over BIM/KJ?
Archana, BIM/KJ are preferable to GL PGDM. Please check “Jayein toh jayein kahaan 2014: Which Institute?” for details.
Thanks a lot sir. 🙂
Thanks a lot, Sir.
And, How do you rank Tapmi and NIBM for finance ( considering fees too)?
thanks in advance,
ravi
Ravi, my preference is TAPMI on account of both the salary and the quality of placements.
Hey, thanks sir for mentoring aspirants.
I want to know your views on MSc Finance in JBIMS. Will it be equivalent to MMS course?. Is it worth considering MSc in Finance in JBIMS than TAPMI or NIBM for finance.
thanks,
ravi
Ravi, MSc Finance of JBIMS is a new course and hence it is difficult to confirm its standing in the industry. However my feeling is that it will be better than NIBM.
Hi Sir,
My academic background:
X-93%, XII-91%, B.Tech Comp Sci- 88%, Graduating in 2014
I took only CAT and XAT this year with a not-so-great preparation and my scores are:
CAT-99.03 and XAT-99.9
I got interview calls from IIM-A,S, XLRI and the new IIMs.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t convert IIM-A, even though I felt I had a great interview.
Although I converted XLRI-BM, I didn’t book my seat as I want to target A/B/C next year. I understand that it is a big gamble but I don’t want to compromise this year.
After taking this bold decision, I am now facing another dilemma.
I have two job offers in hand:
1. A software engineering role in the technology division of a bulge-bracket Investment Bank.
Salary~6-7 lpa. Average profile. Very high brand value (One of the biggest IB)
2. A quantitative trading role at a proprietary trading firm/hedge fund.
Salary~10-11 lpa. Excellent profile. An almost unknown firm.
My question to you is: In your opinion, which of the aforementioned profiles holds more value with respect to admission process at IIM A/B/C and further, in the on-campus placement process? Do the interviewers place the quality of profile higher than the name of the company or is it the other way round?
Thanks in advance!
Anon, purely from MBA admission perspective it does not matter which of the two role you go for. My suggestion will be to choose the role that you would like to continue with if you do not make it to IIM A/B/C. If still not sure then go for the higher salary option as it will help you fund your MBA.
During the MBA entrance interview as well as during the placement process it is the quality of work that is valued more than the name of the company that you have worked with.
Dear Sir,
Would you be kind enough to share with me the preference of yours amongst LIBA, FORE & TAPMI.
I stay at Bangalore.
I’m actually unable to decide where I would get the best learning, given that I am having 2 years’ experience at TCS.
Kindly advise Sir.
Also, I’ve heard LIBA & IMT-G wait-lists move deep. Any info on how much Sir?
Alankritaa, TAPMI is the preferred institute by a margin, LIBA and FORE are not in the same league in terms of exposure, reputation and career opportunities.
IMT G, if it happens, will be a marginally better option to TAPMI. The IMTG waitlist does move significantly and hopefully you will make it.
Thanks a lot Sir.
Can you throw some light on LIBA?
I have heard Loyola is a very old college in Chennai, LIBA is well respected, cheap & very good for Finance.
It has carved a niche of its own.
Also Sir, FORE manages to call student above 88.36%ile in CAT and LIBA has such a skewed cut-off, veering strongly towards VA, that people below 90%ile overall can hardly go through.
Compared to these, TAPMI admits students till 81%ile.
Given that TAPMI has now more than double seats to fill, doesn’t batch strength & quality affect a college’s reputation?
Please guide Sir.
Alankritaa, LIBA also has reservation for Catholic minority which allows students with low XAT score to join but that is similar to reservation in almost all government institutes. TAPMI is a respected institute and will be able to manage the bigger batch size, however it is possible that the bottom 20% could have below par placements. One can consider LIBA over TAPMI due to a significantly lower fee.
Alankritaa, LIBA is a good low profile institute that provides decent placements and has a low fee, it would be at par with institutes like FORE, LBSIM, NIRMA. It is good for all areas and not only fiance.
sir
i just finished my final year of graduation in april 2014
10th=96%, 12th =88% , bcom=65% aggregate(if only final year then will be around 85%),, current cat =92.7%ile
i have converted nmims mumbai and MICA
i want to pursue MBA in marketing. i dont have a job in hand as of now but i think i can find one if i have to.
so 1>>should i take up nmims?
2>>or take up mica?
3>>or should i wait for 1 year and try my luck at cat/xat again ??
also is mica perceived as advertising school or like any other B school
anu9593, take up NMIMS as it is a very good institute (top 20) and provides good career opportunities. MICA is not preferred because of its narrow focus on advertising and communication which is a subset of marketing. NMIMS on the other hand will help you get into all aspects of sales and marketing. the location, Mumbai, is also an advantage for NMIMS as it will ensure excellent industry interaction and better placement opportunities.
Sir, I have 2 small doubts.
1) Kindly share your order of preference between TAPMI, FORE & KJS IB, just keeping in mind the value of the respective degree and profiles possible during placements.
2) I have been wait-listed at 426 out of 802 for IMT-G. Do I have some ray of hope or shall I move on with life?
Please advise Sir, the questions are tormenting me.
Shilajit, my order of preference is: TAPMI, KJS IB, FORE. However the gap between KJS IB and FORE is negligible and if you are from Delhi or if you are not sure about your specialisaton then FORE PGDM should be preferred to KJS IB.
Your waitlist conversion in IMT looks difficult but it should not matter as TAPMI and IMT are in the same league.
Sir, may I know the reason for putting FORE at the last?
Actually, I was selected in TAPMI’s List A and got Great Lakes PGPM offer on the same day.
I went after GL but then left it as it was an Executive program and me with 2.5 years of experience wanted to experience Core MBA.
Meanwhile, I missed TAPMI’s initial payment deadline and now have requested them to give me another opportunity to pay the fees, which they are reluctant to do.
I have FORE, KJS IB at hand and hopes pinned on IMT-G. I want to go for FORE since it’s offering me PGDM Full time which opens up various avenues for me.
If you don’t mind me asking, what would you have done in my position Sir?
Shilajit, My order of preference is based on career/placement opportunities that includes the salary, the kind of companies and the profiles/roles offered. Unfortunately as per my estimate you have left the better institutes. GL Chennai PGPM (1 year program) and TAPMI were your best institutes and both would have provided you with good education and career opportunities. Hopefully IMT G will happens and resolve your problem.
In your position I would have taken up GL PGPM or TAPMI.
Thanks a lot for sparing your time Sir.
Much obliged.
Sir, I won’t regret if I end up at FORE, will I?
I hope I can bag a job at a Core MNC, having 2.5 years Work Ex at Oracle Financial Services Software Ltd.
Gratitude for your guidance Sir.
Shilajit, if you can go to Manipal and cite financial difficulties which delayed your payment then they may consider your application. You will possibly not regret FORE but I hope you make it to IMTG in the waitlist.
Sir I have 38 months of experience in IT sector. I have to choose between SIIB and TAPMI now. Which one would be better?? Please advice.
Thank You!
Regards,
Manu
Manu, TAPMI will be a better option as it is ranked higher and also has a better batch profile. It is also likely to provide better and wider placement opportunities.
Hi Sir,
I have more the 3.5 years of experience in IT and earning 4.5 LPA.
There is no growth for me in my current company.
I want to switch my career .
I got 90.98 percentile in CAT 2013.
I have converted the call from LBSIM, DSM-DTU, waiting for KJ Somaiya, UBS, Bits Pilani, Nit Trichy results.
I am hoping to convert call from all colleges.
I don’t want to spend more than 10 Lakh that’s why I didn’t apply for IMI Delhi, IMT Ghaziabad, Fore.
Kindly advise me which college should I choose.
Is it wise decision to do MBA from these colleges in long term.
Haider, among the colleges mentioned by you my order of preference is KJ Somaiya, LBSIM, BITS Pilani, DSM DTU, UBS.
Sir,
Thanks for your suggestion,
KJ somaiya’s result is out and by last year trend i can get PGDM-IB and PGDM-FS but not PGDM – General.
PGDM-IB is better than LBSIM?
If i go for LBSIM or KJ somaiya PGDM-IB is it wise decision in long term.
Haider, KJ Somaiya IB is acceptable but FS can be ignored. OVerall LBS PGDM will be preferable to KJ Somaiya IB.
Thank you for your valuable advice
Sir I need your advice. Please reply.
I am working with an NGO as a manager and drawing a salary. Will this be counted as a work experience?
I am from general category.
I have 87,81 and 61 percent in X XII and Graduation(Engineering) respectively. Is there a chance for the IIMs?I willl be taking CAT 2014.Please do reply.
Trisha, work in an NGO is counted as work experience.
With 61% in graduation IIMA and B will be difficult unless you get a 100%ile in CAT. IIMB however gives weight to work experience and if you have a 2 year work experience then it is possible at a CAT score of over 98%ile. IIMC does not consider graduation marks but typically requires over 99.5%ile in CAT for interview call. All other IIMs are possible at a score of 98%ile.
Hello Sir,
I’m in the waitlist for imi delhi, waitlist number to be announced soon. So How is the waitlist movement in imi delhi for previous years.??
Thanks and Regards,
Sahil
Sahil, have not tracked the IMI waitlist last year but there will be a significant movement.
I have converted Tapmi expecting to convert KJ…Total work of 2 yrs in TCS with a package of 4.47L…X – 89.46 Xii-92.33 BE – 73..how good is Tapmi …which one to choose and are these really good colleges..this would be the last year for my MBA attempt..Really confused..
Pooja, TAPMI is a good institute and should be preferred over KJ Somaiya. However if the high fee of TAPMI is an issue then you can consider KJ Somaiya.
Sir,
Fees is definitely a parameter but since this would be the final degree of my life just wanted to be sure..there is lot of comparison between KJ & tapmi and reviews are mixed..could you just tell me factors why tapmi is preferred…
Pooja, essentially better placements.
Thanks a lot sir…
Hi,
I have been selected for the IMT Ghaziabad’s PGDM Executive 2014-2015 program and am eager to know the post MBA prospects. Tried researching on the program’s placement history but came up with zero info.
Please advise on the placement scenario for the executive program in the past years and if it indeed a good program.
Thanks
Sathya, will not be able to help you since not much is known about this program.
Sir,
I am doing 5-yr Int M.Sc. in Stat ( now in last year, up to 9th sem avg is 70%) Converted IMT nagpur. Due to some family issues I have to join MBA this year. Will it be a good idea to join IMT nagpur? Can I get a good head start from IMT nagpur? Will my masters degree in stat add any extra value in the placement? I desperately need your suggestion. Please help me.
Subhankar, your PG knowledge can be helpful in getting you a better placement in some of the areas of marketing (research) and finance. IMT Nagpur is a decent institute and will provide a decent start. If you do well in MBA then a good start is possible.
Hi,
I have converted calls from SIBM Bangalore, SIIB Pune and BIM Trichy. Till now I have plans to take up marketing as a specialization. Which according to you is the best institute among the three?
Apart from placement, can you shed some light on the institutes’ culture and teaching standards?
Can you also provide an order of preference for the three institutes?
Your opinion will be very much appreciated.
Thanks
Umang, purely in terms of ranking and placements BIM and SIIB are at par and you can choose either of them. While SIIB offers a program in IB it also allows you to specialise in marketing or finance or HR or supply chain. BIM offers a general management program which also allows you to choose your area of specialisation. SIBM Blr being a newer institute is the least preferred among these three. You can join either of SIIB and BIM Trichy.
Sir,
I’m a fresher, Finishing M.Sc biotechnology. I am from Bangalore.
I have 3 questions.
1. SIIB-Pune versus SIBM-Bangalore? In terms of faculty/placements/exposure/campus.
2. MBA International business course versus a General MBA. Which one is preferable overall? Will IB restrict me in any way?
3. Awaiting results for KJ Somaiya and BIM Trichy. So among KJS, BIM, SIBM-B/SIIB, preference order?
Relying on you sir, thanks in advance!
Archana, SIIB is an older institute and has marginally better placements but offers a program in IB in which most of the placements are not in IB but in sales & marketing and in financial services. A general MBA will usually provide better placements and SIBM Bangalore is fast catching up with SIIB. Since the gap between the two institutes ins not much and you are from Bangalore SIBM will be a better choice, unless you are keen to leave Bangalore.
The four institutes are very close to each other and you could choose any one, my order of preference will be BIM Trichy, KJ Somaiya, SIBM Bangalore, SIIB.
hank you so much sir!
I do prefer to leave Bangalore.
But I will probably opt for HR, (not fully sure, my next option is marketing) and I hear that SIIB isn’t known for its HR, and doesn’t have great HR placements.
Is that true sir?
Would it be a mistake to choose SIIB purely because of city/campus, inspite of wanting HR?
Archana, if HR is the target then SIIB is ruled out but for marketing it is a good option. Most of the placements are in the sales & marketing, financial services and IB. HR normally does not figure in SIIB and going by city/campus does not make sense in this case. My suggestion will be to stick to SIBM as it will allow you to choose your area of specialisation.
Hello sir ,
Please could help me rank imt dcp, tapmi and kj somaiya. I got final calls from tapmi and imt dcp and kj somaiya is also expected.
Thanks and Regards,
Sahil
Sahil, my order of preference is TAPMI, KJ Somaiya, DCP.
TAPMI is higher ranked but has a significantly higher fee while KJ has a slightly lower average salary (-15%) but being in Mumbai can lead to good placements.
Sir, Few issues:
1. Tapmi has almost doubled it’s intake this year , so placements would be an issue.. this is something worrying me, although imt DCP has more batch strength but they are managing this from the last 4 years and for tapmi this would be their first time to get placed almost 500 students. and imt brand is also better.
2. Because of the above reason avg. salary package of tapmi will go down and then KJ and tapmi would be at par in terms of avg package, but then tapmi brand is better.
Very confused between these.. 🙁
Sahil, the cost of DCP is a huge barrier for me. If confused go for KJ Somaiya which will has a location advantage, low fee and smaller batch size.
xime has opened a new campus in Kochi. will this affect placements for students of xime bangalore as they might have central placements?
Meena, XIME Kochi will most probably have separate placements and will not impact Bangalore.
Hi,
I have 2 years of work ex in IT, I have been waitlisted at 389 in IMT-G(Which hopefully i will clear) and waiting for IMI results(most probably will clear that as well)
I have an offer for a short term Onsite role (2-3 months) in which i can save around 70-80k per month….. my present salary is 4.5lpa
I am interested in Finance and open to come back to IT in Finance Domain..
Considering the options i have, should I go for MBA this year? or should I go onsite and prepare for next year…
Paras, please let me know:
1. your marks in X, XII and graduation and also name of college.
2. number of times you have taken CAT/XAT
3. your CAT, XAT, NMAT scores.
Can you please share as to which is better between mica and imt ghaziabad marketing, and how?
mab-aspiree, IMT G is higher ranked but has a significantly higher fee and batch size. MICA on the other had is focussed on Communications (marketing) and hence is my preference. If you are sure about your specialisation then you are better off in a specialised program.
Dear Sir,
I have got a five years experience in Government Research organization. I want to pursue MBA with specialization in operations. Is SPJAIN PGPM program worth giving a shot?? What is the ROI expected??
Avi, with a 5 year work experience you should consider 1 year MBA programs from ISB Hyderabad, IIMs and other top institutes for which you will need to take GMAT.
sir,
i have a confunfusion between the two colleges ifmr and lbsim which one to choose for finance
Ronit, LBSIM could be a better option due to its location.
AND SIR IF WE COMPARE LBSIM,WELINGKAR,NIRMA,FORE
WHICH COLLEGE TO CHOOSE FOR FINANCE
ronit, FORE, NIRMA and LBSIM are close choices and for finance you can go to any one of these as they have similar placements. I will not consider Nirma as the other two are based in Delhi and will provide better placement opportunities in finance. FORE is better known but has a higher fee.
Dear sir,
I am a fresher from Lady shri ram college (2013 passout). I have done Psychology(H). I have converted sdmimd and ifmr. I want to specialise in hr. please tell me which is better for hr.
Meena, these two institutes are not known for HR but between the two my preference will be for IFMR due to it location. Chennai is likely to provide more and better opportunities for HR placements.
sir,
please arrange the colleges according to the following factors
1) i want to take up finance
2)roi,location,brand,exposure,placements
ifmr,bimtech,nirma,lbsim,welingkar mumbai,fore
Adrish, the order of preference would be LBSIM, FORE, Nirma, Welingkar, BIMTECH, IFMR. However there is not much of a difference between the first four institutes so if you belong to Mumbai then Welingkar should be preferred and similarly for the others. Go for the one that will cost you the least.
I have converted IFMR, SDMIMD and am hopeful of converting XIME. Could you please rate these. I want to specialise in HR . Which among these is best for HR?
Meena, the three institutes are close in terms of ranking but IFMR is best known for Finance hence need not be considered. My recommendation is XIME Bangalore is likely to provide better placement opportunities for HR.
thank you sir.
Hello Sir,
My X-82 ,XII-75,Grad-75
NC-OBC Category,Work Ex-36 months.
current ctc – 5.5 lac.
got call from SITM pune. is it worth to join? how is SRCC GBO .I am selected for the second stage of selection.
Purva, SITM and SRCC GBO are not recommended for you. Suggest that you go for a retake of CAT/SNAP and/or take GMAT and target 1 year MBA program of ISB Hyderabad and Great Lakes.
Sir,
My CAT percentile is 89.3. I am currently pursuing my M.Sc biotechnology. No work ex.
I have admission to SIBM bangalore and TAPMI. which one should I pick? I’m interested in HR/Marketing and hope to get into the healthcare industry.
other calls i have are BIM trichy, great lakes(2 year course), KJ somaiah.
Archana, TAPMI is likely to provide the best career opportunities (placements) hence that is where you should go. It is also the oldest and highest ranked among the institutes mentioned by you.
if given a choice between welingkar and IISWBM, in terms of placement and faculty… which one would be the better choice, sir?
Somjit, my preference will be for Welingkar Mumbai
Sir,I am a fresher from DU.
Profile: 10th:93%
12th 90%
grad 88%
CAT 80.28%
Converted Bimtech,SCIT,SICSR,IMT HYDERABAD,PDPU GANDHINAGAR..UBS has not made calls yet…kindly suggest the out of these at the moment? Also,If I get UBS Ludhiana should I shift from private ones? As fees shows a huge difference.Bimtech is 12.6l and UBS just 3lakh placements vary much??
Thanks
Bloom, with your academic track record ideally you should consider a retake. What has been your performance in other tests – XAT, SNAP, NMAT and CMAT?
among the institutes mentioned by you BIMTECH, IMT Hyderabad and SCIT can be considered. Go for the one with the losest fee. UBS is not recommended despite a very low fee because in the last couple of years it has been struggling for placements.
Dear Sir,
Below is my profile.
X : 88%
XII: 70%
B.Tech : 8.2 CGPA
Work Ex: 28 mnths(Software)
CAT 2013: 92%ile
XAT 2013: 92%ile
NMAT waitlisted at 1341
IIFT 2013 40
As I think I didn’t gave my 100% in 2013, I have decided to start preparing for 2014. I am quite confident of scoring smthng around 98%ile in CAT and XAT.
With my profile and given the fact next year I will be having 3.5 yrs of work ex, what are the college I should target?
I am little bit confused regarding which course I should opt for.
CL classroom course (I work in Chennai)or CL smart CAT cracker?
Thanks & Regards,
Tanmaya
Tanmaya, if your merit list number is 1341 (or wait list 341) then you can get a final call from NM. Once the IIMs, XLRI, FMS and IITs come out with their results you will see a significant movement in the waitlist. Hopefully by end April ou will have some positive news.
In case you have to go for a retake you should consider only the top 25 institutes thru CAT/XAT, you should also take GMAT and try for ISB hyderabad also.
For you retake preparation my suggestion will be to enroll for Smart CAT Cracker Comprehensive since a retake preparation needs to focus on practice and testing. With a 92%ile in CAT/XAT your basics appear to be in place.
Dear Sir,
Thanks a lot for your quick reply. Yes my merit list is 1341(wait list 341). Still now I am little bit sceptical about NM because of ROI factor as I am from a lower middle class family. But still then will wait till April end and then if I don’t convert, I will go for SMART CAT CRACKER.
Thanks & Regards,
Tanmaya Ray8
Tanmaya, most probably you will not need Smart CAT Cracker.
While cost is a factor the boost that NM will provide to your career will help you repay the education loan. Scholarships are also provided by most institutes for meritorious but financially weak students.
Sir,
i wrote gmat, and converted IMT Nagpur .
i work as a sftware engineer in french bank. and scope here is saturated. 31 months exp but the work is monotonous.
Do you think its a good idea to study in IMT.
Dear Puneeth,
For a software engineer with 31 months of work-experience, it may not be a good decision to join IMT Nagpur. The average placement figure at IMT Nagpur is in the range of Rs 6 lakhs per annum. Further, the fee for the two-year program is in the range of Rs. 11 lakhs. Considering your current profile, IMT Nagpur is not suitable for you.
sir i am from kolkata i am selected in iiswbm, imt(dcp),bimtech and waiting for other results but if i dont convert other colleges what would be my choice considering roi, location, brand, exposure, placements
and considering all factors what would be your choice
Dear Adrish,
Among these, the ranking should be BIM Tech > IISWBM > IMT(DCP). The high cost of IMT (DCP) is a big deterrent. Considering ROI, therefore, you should opt for BIM Tech.
Sir, Which one is better for me SDMIMD or Wellingkar Mumbai.? I haven’t converted wellingkar yet. My first preference would be MBA in IT or Systems and the Operations. SDMIMd has Systems and Operations both and it provides dual specialization as well. Wellingkar also has PGDM – systems and E-Business specializations. Which one should I prefer.?
Ravi, these are close institutes but Welingkar PGDM will possibly be a better option due to its location.
sir
which 1 would be better among imt gzb-f/t and imi-pgdm..
appeared for both….i am a fresher(b.tech)
Dear Kanak,
IMT Ghaziabad (full-time) and IMI PGDM are very similarly ranked programs. Between the two, IMT may be preferable. Do note that you should be in the top 2/3rds of your batch at IMT, otherwise placements may be a struggle.
Sir,
I’ve been selected in SDMIMD and BIMTECH(PGDM)…and waiting for the results of IFMR…what should be my preference…I’m interested in marketing.
Thank You.
Nitesh, these are equally good with similar placement and you can choose either. BIMTECH has a higher overall cost (12.5 Vs 10 lakh) and hence SDMIMD could be preferred especially if you are from South India.
Sir,What about IFMR…should it be preferred over SDMIMD for marketing?
Nitesh, IFMR is possibly a better option even for marketing.
Hi GP sir,
My profile is as below:
X 83, XII 72, BE 76, CAT 89.3. Work Ex-31 months.
I have converted TAPMI PGDM and have IMI HR & IIT Kgp MHRM interviews lined up (not so interested in HR). With CAT being unpredictable, and my confidence of around 90-95 percentile for CAT 2014, please advice, if TAPMI wud be an ideal choice this yr…or should I go for another try for CAT.
Your personal opinion matters, please advice.
Thanks & Regards.
Ashish, my suggestion is that you should join TAPMI PGDM and not go for a retake. TAPMI provides good placement and career opportunities. Since you are not interested in HR the other two institutes can be ignored.
Hi!Sir,I’m a hotel management graduate.I’ve converted SITM ,SDMIMD….results pending in XISS(hr) and IMT nagpur….I heard telecom industry is not doing well …plus my HM background won’t help me in SITM…Which college should i opt for??SDMIMD or IMT nagpur ??and should I give more priority to XISS HR programme if I convert??? Please reply asap…
Dear Roumit,
The ranking among these institutes will be XISS > IMT Nagpur > SDMIMD > SITM. XISS should certainly be your preferred option.
HI Sir,
My OA is 91.6,with QA-97.6 and VA-66.28
My X-88.33,XII-94.2,Grad-74
NC-OBC Category,Work Ex-37 months.
What are my chances of FMS..?
Pavani, decent chances of getting the call.
Thank you for the reply Sir.Let me hope for the best.
Hello sir,
I have 2.5 yrs of work exp. CAT 92 percentile. I have got offer for admission from Great Lakes Chennai one year course. IMT GZB and IMI Delhi GD/PI results are yet to be declared. Please suggest which among the three will be a better choice.
Regards,
Vaibhav
Vaibhav, this is difficult one. GL Chennai possibly has the best average placement and is a 1 year program but is ranked lower than IMT G.
IMTG is the highest ranked among the three but is it has a batch size of 600 and the bottom 25%students struggle for placement.
IMI has improved a lot in the last few years but its average and max salary are the lowest among the three.
Please call me at 9811155160 to discuss.
Hi sir, I am a B.E mechanical engineering pass out and currently doing my family business .I had my first attempt in CAT this year and got 79%. since my sectional cut off is less I didn’t get calls from most of the colleges but how ever I am able to convert the calls from Christ and Ibs hyd . Actually I am looking to do some quality MBA . It would be better off I join at any of the above mentioned college or take one more attempt?. Also I had only a year of experience and after that turned to do business . Does iims require experience certificate (because I don’t ve one) or high percentile in CAT would help me? It would be good if I do some additional course to hone my knowledge? my academics record is quite good I ve scored 80+ in 10th,+2 and UG. It would be grateful if you could answer me sir. Thank you.
Krishna, given that this was our first attempt, with good acads and with a family business back up my suggestion is to go for a retake. Your family business experience will be given credit in the admission process.
sir converted bimtech too
ok sir will b joining sdmimd
Thanks 🙂
Sumit are you joining sdmimd, is it worth taking admission. i’ve also converted sdmimd. have you talked to any alumini or student of sdm ?
sir
i converted my sdmimd call
and my bimtech result is awaiting , will b declared within a week
sir which one is better
and can you pls tell me about sdmimd placemnt in brief plzz
Thanx in advance
Sumit, SDMIMD will be a better option as compared to BIMTECH due to its lower batch size. You can expect a salary of Rs 5.5 lakh pa, for details refer to its placement report.
SIR I LIVE IN KOLKATA WHAT WOULD BE MY CHOICE IF I AM SELECTED IN ICFAI HYDERABAD AND IISWBM KOLKATA CONSIDERING
LOCATION,ROI,PLACEMENTS,ETC
Adrish, based on ROI and placements I would prefer IISWBM over IBS Hyderabad. The average placements are similar but the fee of IBS is significantly higher.
Respected G.P. Sir
my mat score is 89 (other scores are too poor) and i want to take admission this year only.
can you please suggest me some colleges
i had applied for jims kalkaji jims rohini and apeejay
whic one is better amng these three.
please reply all of my questions
please sir
thnks in advance
sir
was waitng fr ur reply
Sammy, considering your score and the time at which you are asking this question, there are not much options available for you. Hope you have applied for MH-CET. Out of the colleges you have mentioned, JIMS Rohini would be a better choice.
Sir,
Among XIME Banglore, IMT Hyd, IMT Nagpur, Christ, Great lakes, Kirloskar,SCMS Cochin nd Balaji, can you please tell me the order of priority to be given in terms of good college, faculty and packages. Sir i got 97.7 percentile in MAT Feb exam. Sir is Great lakes chennai pgdm course good because it is introduced last year itself and this year is its second batch?
Thank you
Sir, I had scored 85% in ICSE & 86.57 % in ISC.(average of all subjects).
I scored 76.84 percentile in CAT !! 83.45 percentile in QA & DI and 65.05 percentile in VA & LR.
1.Sir what are the colleges I should apply to ?
2.Is it advisable to apply for Great Lakes Chennai ?
3. If given a choice between IISWBM & IMI Kolkata , which would be a better choice.
Thanks in Advance.
Arnab, While you can consider Great Lakes Chennai PGDM, with your academic record, if you have a job offer my suggestion is to take it up and go for a retake. It will not be difficult to improve your score in VALR which will allow you to get into the next level of institutes.
sir, i’ve got 95.13 %ile but i havnt filld any good colleges,
i have k.j som(pgdm),iifm,nibm, sims pune
suggest me the best among these whr i could get 8+ package,
i’m a fresher & having a average acads 75,74,62 ..10th,12th & be respectively
Kuldeep, KJ Som is the best among these but given your CAT score you will be compromising on the institute. My suggestion will be to pick up a job and go for a retake.
Hi Sir,
I have calls from SIBM – Pune, SCMHRD, SIBM – Blore , GLIM & IMT. I’m in a dilemma as what to go for. If hypothetically I stand to convert all these, what would be your order of preferences ?
Pls help 🙂
Sai, first convert these calls and then decide where to join. SIBM-Pune would be the top priority though.
sir i have got 94.03 in cat. i have a call from iim shillong . i am a fresher with 84.86 in 10th , 73.4 in 12th and 83 in graduation. wat are my chances of converting .
i also have 90.43 in xat, 1525 rank in cmat .wat colleges should i keep as a backup?
Dhananyjay, which institutes have you applied to and from where all have you received interview calls?
sir my cat percentile is 65.3
am a B.E student in ECE
completed my graduation in 2013 with no job
my 10 % = 74 and 12th % = 55 grad %= 60
if i get IMI Kol shall i take it….?? plz reply
Raj, should you take any college or not is completely your prerogative and the same will depend on your aspirations. If you don’t wish to get into premier institutes only and above average is fine with you, you can take IMI Kolkata.
sir,
i got 182 in sep cmat. percentile is 89.45. which college i can apply?
Ad sam, unfortunately you won’t be getting any good call at that score.
sir how is kirloskar college
Sumit, it’s an average college.
Dear GP, My XAT score is 95.54 %ile
with Quant – 92.54
Dec Making – 76.66
Eng – 93.77
Now that I havent got shortlisted for XLRI, do I have a chance for IMT? If Yes, does nil work e have a bearing ? How should I prepare for GD/PI?
Regards
Rahul
Rahul, you have possibly missed out due to 76%ile in DM and not due to nil work experience. IMT does not have sectional cutoffs so you should get a call from there. To get started with your interview preparation please refer to my blogpost 5 Mantras to master the Interview, additionally start your PDP classes immediately.
sir, my academic performance is–ssc=67%, hsc=48%, b.tech=68%, cat 2013=96.81 and xat=94. what are my chances of getting call letter from good MBA colleges like tapmi, great lakes etc.
Soubhik, both should happen.
sir, my cat percentile is 96.81 and xat percentile is 94
Soubhik, with this score you will get calls from good MBA institutes.
sir my academic profile is-ssc=67%, hsc=48% and my graduation=68%
sir, i want to know that do I still have chance for good MBA colleges and if I hv a chance which colleges to apply for?
Soubhik, what is you score in CAT/XAT?
sir how is nimb pune
my cat score is 75.6 %
is there any chances?
Sumit, NIBM is an average college and you might just get a call for the GD/PI.
Sir kindly arrange this college’s in descending order in terms of faculty and growth.I have 3yrs of work experience and cat percentile 80..greatlakes,xime,tapmi,amity
Abey, the order would be TAPMI, Great Lakes, XIME and Amity.
sir arrange sdmimd bimtech and itm navi mumbai
and plz provide there cat cut off n avrg placmnt
Rahul, these colleges are more or less at the same level. The cut-offs through CAT for BIMTECH is around 85 percentile and that for SDMIMD and ITM is a little lower than that. Placements are pretty average in all of these institutes.
I am looking for MBA institute which clgs can I get
my profile is
10th -81%
12th-80%
graduation-74.42%
CAT-58.56 Percentile
MAT sept-86%
MAT feb -96%
Snap -75%
NMAT -177
How is KIAMS ? Should it worth applying KIAMS ? Plz suggest.
Which clgs can I apply. I am in dilemma plz help me out.
Shweta, is’s unlikely that you’ll get a call from Kirloskar on the basis of your CAT score.
Please refer to the blogpost Cutoffs of CAT allied institutes for the institutes where you can still apply and from where you can expect calls based on your CAT score.
Hi GP, My CAT score card for 2013 and profile details are as below: CAT 2013 QA: 91.8 VA: 94.5 OA: 95.35 (GEN-Male) My profile: 10th- 80.17(CBSE) 12th-88.1(SSC) B.Arch- (IIT Kgp- 7.1) and have 2+ yrs of work experience. Apart from IIMs, I have applied for MBA programme in MDI, FMS, SPjain colleges. Please do suggest me the chances to convert in these colleges and do suggest me for any other college to apply for. How is Great Lakes, Chennai-PGPM, is it worth to join? I can provide you with more information if required. Thanks in advance. Regards, Ravikant
You might get a call from MDI(last year cut off was 95.75 with 85 sectionals) and then the conversion depends on GD/PI(acc to last year). FMS cutoff percentile last year was 98.5, so chances of getting a call from FMS are less. Usually people with 2 or more years of experience in IT join Great Lakes, as in the placements most of the companies are IT. Other companies also visit, u can apply
How is IMT, Nagpur?
I wish to know it’s XAT & CMAT cut offs last year.
Also,
Great Lakes PGDM programme and it’s XAT & CMAT cut offs.
Thankyou.
Parag, IMT Nagpur is rather new and the cut-off lies in the range of 75-80 percentile. GL PGPM is more reputed than the PGDM course and the cut-off lies around 85+ percentile.
Sir,
I have been shortlisted for PGDM- CD/PI of NMIMS-B’lore campus.
Kindly suggest me as to how good the institute is? How good is the overall exposure and placements? Can I take the admission if I convert? I have great scores neither in CAT nor in XAT. Or rather would you suggest me to wait and give CAT another shot next year. I am a 24 year old software professional.
If you are desparate to take the admission this year you can go for it, otherwise you can give another shot. But convert it before taking any decision.
Is it worth taking up NMIMS-B’lore if I convert?
Sir,
What percentile in MAT is required to get a call from XIME Banglore. Will it consider sectional cuttoffs?
Padmini, XIME doesn’t consider sectional cut-offs. 85+ percentile will suffice for the call.
Sir,
My mat percentile is 83.74 .do I have a chance to get in xime or christ.among Christ and xime which is better with regard to faculty and placement.I have a work experience of 2.6 years.kindly answer
Shilpa, Christ and XIME both are average colleges with average placements. If you have written XAT then even a score of 60+ percentile can guarantee a call from these institutes. You can expect calls through your MAT score too.
hello sir,
im a btech graduate from nit jaipur. Passed out in 2013.
I have no job exp.
10th – 90.2%
12th – 86.4%
btech-50 %
nmat score 212
qs-91, ls-59, lr-62 and
cat score 90.23%, quant 96% and verbal 66%.
My communication skills are above average.
first, i want to know if i have any genuine chance of converting nmims mumbai. If possible please specify what are my chances.
second, since i messed up my verbal section in cat i am considering giving cat again after some job exp.
sir since i have a call from nmims i cant figure out if i should give it a fair try or start job hunting. As you know if im unable to convert it my entire year will be wasted. and more importantly i dont want to settle for a college below category A. sir please advice me on this.
Rahul, give NMIMS your best shot. NMIMS is worth taking admission into and you do have decent chances of converting the call too.
Sir
First of you are really very helpful, thanks for it.
Sir, I have already solved arun sharma for quant and the material of time partially.
So now people are suggesting me to solve sarvesh kr verma for quant, targetting cat’14, because they all said solving any book completely is better than solving ant particular material for quant. What is your suggestion sir?
Advika,
If you are CL student, Please complete CL material first because that is exhaustive for CAT. after completing it you can refer to these books also.
SIR
i had filled cmat feb exam form
bt most of the colleges application date is over
is there any other good college in cmat except kj goa
nmims
as there dates has passed
Rahul, fill MH-CET. You will be eligible for the colleges of Maharastra like JBIMS, SIMSREE, Welingkar etc for the MMS seats.
SIR
how is sdmimd
what about its placement
and cut off
my cmat score is 165
cat 73
should i apply
Rahul, SDIMIMD is an average college with average placements. The cut-ff through CAT hovers around 80 percentile but you can take your chances.
hi ,
X-90.92%
XII – 92.83%
B.E – 63.33%
CAT percentile-73
NMAT- 185
the cat percentile this year is not good.
But i know i have it in me to study and crack it. I have good communication skills and a command over group discussions.
irrespective of these facts, what i wish to ask is as follows
1)is there any cnace i l get a call for NMIMS , mumbai?
2)Should I apply for MICA ? i.e at this percentile in CAT , is it possible to convert MICA .
3)I am currently a trainee since 4 months in cognizant. I am considering giving up the job and full fledged prepare for CAT . what do you think about this? waiting for the reply asap
Radha,
1. NMIMS Mumbai is not possible at that score.
2. Yes, you should apply for MICA. Your performance in MICAT alone will decide that call. CAT is just the qualifier.
3. Try to maintain a balance between job and study. You have enough time for CAT-2014.
Sir,
In NMAT, i got QS-60, LS-53, LR-54
TOTAL-167
I am having OBC-NC.
Are there any chances of getting a call??
PAdmini, NM does not have reservation so a call is not possible at this score.
Padmini, there is no reservation in NMIMS.
SIR
MY CAT PERCENTILE IS 75
CAN YOU RECOMMEND ME SOME COLLEGES
CAN YOU RANK THESE COLLEGES
SDMIMD BIMTECH NOIDA ITM NAVI MUMBAI
SIR ITM NAVI MUMBAI NOW PROVIDES PGDM I CONNECT
AND THEY ARE SAYING NOW WE DO NOT PROVIDE SIMPLE PGDM. IS THIS TRUE
WILL BE WAITING FOR REPLY
THNX IN ADVANCE
Bhawna, please refer to the blogpost Cutoffs of CAT allied institutes for the institutes where you can still apply and from where you can expect calls based on your CAT score.
BIMTECH is a better college than ITM-Navi Mumbai. They have renamed their MBA course as PGDM-I Connect.
Sir I am in final year b.tech (ece) from ip university..currently unplaced.

Parminder, you can try for BIMTECH too. The chances of conversion will depend on your performance in the next rounds.

Nishant, you have decent chances to convert MDI. Prepare well for GD/PI.
Sir,
At 81.85 in CAT, which colleges I should keep in my radar?
Nitesh, At 81.85%ile you can cosider FORE (PGDM-IB), IMI Kolkata, IIFM Bhopal, IMT Nagpur, LIBA, ITM Mumbai. All the best.
Hi,
My Cat score is,
Section 1 : 55.16
Section 2 : 93.87
Overall : 82.87
I have 2+ yrs of work ex and a good academic record. Do i stand a chance of getting into TAPMI ?
Thanks
Abhishek, you may give it a shot.
GP Sir I’ve got 73.65 percentile in cat and have a low academic record. Which are the colleges should I look for?
(I have to take admission this year only)
Shubham, at this score you wouldn’t be getting calls from good colleges. However, you can still apply for MICA and write MICAT. Low percentile in CAT will not be a hindrance to convert the call. Through CAT you can try for BIMTECH and SDMIMD.
thanx a lot for your quick reply.

Hello Sir,
1)which colleges should i aim for with the following profile?
2)which colleges have eligibility criteria only for engineering grads(within my score range)?
Pls suggest.
CAT score: QA&DI(89.2 %ile), VA&LR(74.51 %ile), Overall(85.18)

TAPMI
IMI Delhi (PGDHRM)
FORE
LBSIM
FORE (PGDM-IB)
K J Somaiya
BITS-Pilani MBA (considers only Engineering Graduates).
Respected Sir,
For this year I am almost over. CAT 90.04,SNAP 86,NMAT 209,
and XAT(expecting 24 as per CL).
I have already 2 yrs of work experience in a software MNC. To me I have not given my 100 % for this year preparation. My acads 10th 88% 12th 70% B.Tech 82.
So will it be a good decession to target CAT 2014 or I should go for executive MBA after 1-2 yrs given the fact that I will be having 3 yrs of exp. next yr which many says will hurt in placements.
Personally I am more inclined to full time 2yr MBA.
Tanmaya, you can do both but they will require dedication from your end. If you are willing to do so then go with your preference and target CAT 2014. If with insufficient preparation you can get these scores then with preparation you can make it to the top institutes. 3 year work experience is not an issue but let CAT’14 be your final attempt at CAT.
Dear Sir, i’ve got 72.08%ile in QA/DI, 82.4 in VA/LR and Over all 79.94. I wanna do MBA this year, can you please suggest me some colleges.
Shubham, you could go for NIRMA, Welingkar Mumbai, IFMR, IIFM, NIBM, BIMTECH Noida.
With a percentile of 84.28 from which colleges can I expect a call?
Dear Pratyusha,
You may get call from FORE – IBM, K.J. Somaiya, BIMTECH, SDMIMD and IIFM Bhopal.
Hi
I have scored 94.03 percentile overall
85 in quant and 95 in english
Xth : 90.6
XIIth : 84.4
graduation : 75.68
Work experience till date is 13 months
What calls can I expect
Kamini, Please refer to the blogpost Cutoffs of CAT allied institutes for the institutes where you can still apply and from where you can expect calls.
Sir I am a CL-Kolkata 2013 classroom program student . I have scored 93.78 (OA) with 96.86 (VA) and 81.66 (QA) .
These scores are very close to my CL predicted scores and I would like to thank you and entire CL team for these spot on predictions .
I have made full use of it and applied to colleges believing these predicted scores .
My profile is : 78.2 (10th) , 73.2 (12th) , 69.47 (B.Tech – Elec.) , IT MNC – 2+ years exp in SAP ERP .
I have also cleared Bank PO exam and I am certain I will get selected for bank P.O .
Also with these CAT scores in my mind , I have filled IMI – D , FORE , LBSIM – Delhi , GIM .
Now I am planning to fill KJ-SOM , IMT-G and Tapmi .
please give me guidance as to should I apply for KJ-SOM , TAPMI ?
If yes then what all courses in KJ-SOM should I target ?
Also any other colleges I should apply to ?
Rahul, you should apply KJ Som and TAPMI. In KJ Som go for the flagship MBA program only, you can also consider the IB program as a back up.
Also please check out Please refer to the blogpost Cutoffs of CAT allied institutes for the institutes where you can still apply and from where you can expect calls.

can you recomend me what to do
Sumit, if you belong to the general category, you will not be getting good calls this year. You have time. Prepare well for MBA entrance exams next year and try getting 95+ percentile.
sir
i joined cl for 2 yrs
now i dont want to spent one more year for cat
i will b appearing in cmat feb exam
Is there no choice of colg acc to my mat score ?
What about ITM navi mumbai or NIIL CMS NOIDA
Sumit, do take Feb MAT also since you will be able to score higher in it than CMAT. Use the MAT score for applying to Mumbai University colleges through DTE. You will need a score of over 98%ile in MAT to get good college.
Based on CMAT scores you can consider applying to KJ Somaiya and Welingkar. ITM Navi Mumbai is decent the other two can be avoided.
thnx a lot sir
really thnx a lot
one last que
will i be able to get admsn in bimtech noida
Sumit, unfortunately BIMTECH is not likely at a score of 75%ile. Please refer to the blogpost Cutoffs of CAT allied institutes to identify the institutes that you can apply to.
Dear Sir,
I m b.tech graduate and have a work experience of 1.5 years at L & T (2012 passout). My overall cat percentile is 90.6 with great variation in sectional percentile.
QA percentile: 97.05, Verbal, LR 66.67. I think, most institutes have sectional cut off.
Pls suggest me some institutes to apply. I m from GENERAL category.
Deepak, The only institutes that have sectional cutoffs are IIMs, XLRI, XIMB, MDI and SP Jain. Almost all other institutes go by the overall score only.
Please refer to the blogpost Cutoffs of CAT allied institutes for the institutes where you can still apply and from where you can expect calls.
Dear GP Sir,
My Acads: 95% Xth, 91%XII, graduation 80%, IIT, working for 2 years in an IT company. I got a profile based shorlist for SP Jain Finance, but my cat score is only 91.9%ile, although I’m clearing the required sectional cutoffs. I am preparing hard for SPJain interview but should I also consider appearing for CAT again in 2014?
Rohit, SP Jain is a top 10 MBA institute so if you get through to it then do not consider CAT’14.
SIR my result is

12 percentage is 80
with no work experience
and bcom percentage is 56( acc to two years)
can you recomend me what to do
Sumit, based on your CAT score of 75%ile you will not get any decent college. However your MAT score is good and you can consider AMity Noida based on this score. My suggestion is to take MAT again in Feb since based on it you can apply to Mumbai University colleges when DTE (www.dte.org.in) comes out with its notification.
converted bimtech too for pgdm
but bimtech fees is 2.5 laks including each and every xpnses .
so acc to roi which is better
bimtech has 430 students intake where as sdmimd has 180
please help me out
Sumit, salary of both is similar but SDMIMD has a lower batch size and lower fee (9.5 Vs 12.5) so my preference is for SDMIMD.
sorry as i wrote bimtech fees is 2.5 lak i ws going to write that bimtech is 2.5 lak costlier than sdmimd ok sir thnx a lot will b joining it
Sir,
Got 91.88 percentile overall and in quant 82.56 and in verbal 94.27… i have applied to XIMB, KJ somaiya … Which colleges i should apply… please reply

Sir
Thanks for the marvelous piece of information you share.
Sir I will start my job from the next session and also would be appearing for CAT’14.
My profile till date is
B.Tech.-73.6 (upto 6 semester, definitely would cross 75 in 6th n 7th sem), from a UPTU govt college
XII-79.8 (CBSE)
X-89.67 (CBSE)
Very active in extra-curricular activities.
What mark (percentile) should I target to make it to FMS or any other similar premier institute but a restriction of fees less than 7 Lakhs. Please do name such premier & cheap institutes; if
i) I am unreserved female
ii) I am OBC female
targets, as a OBC candidate your target score for the IIMs, FMS and other top MBA institutes (with reservation) should be 95%ile. In addition to the FMS he institutes with low fee would be the IITs, MFC, MBE, JBIMS and other government run institutes.
A general category candidate will need over 99%ile for FMS and IIT Mumbai and over 95%ile for the other institutes.
thanks a lot sir.
Further sir how should i start my preparation at this stage to be in fms through 2014 CAT, when i have already solved Arun Sharma’s QA & LR twice plus the material from TIME too. but i do not find myself upto the mark in english.
so how should i move on now sir?
shall i join some weekend coaching classes or some other tip sir.
thankyou…
targets, if you are unable to gain confidence in English by studying on your own then you can consider joining a classroom program but it will be excessive since you have already covered a significant portion. An alternate option will be to go for a the Smart CAT Cracker Comprehensive Plus or Smart CAT Cracker Comprehensive
These are online programs that will help you build your concepts, provide support in test taking and give sufficient practice. These two also include the Test Series.
Thanks a lot sir…….:)
Sir,
Profile- X- 91.0, XII- 82.0, BTech- 71(till 3rd yr, will pass out in 2014)
I am currently placed at a reputed mnc with CTC of around 4.5 lpa.
Questions attempted in CAT- 18 in Quants, 25 in VA/LR
I am not quite sure about the no. of right answers. It may sway from 16 correct to about 10-11 correct in Quants. Similarly, between 18 to 23 correct in VA/LR.
Evidently, %ile predictor places me somewhere between 98 to 94 %ile. In the mocks of CL, as well as sectional tests, on average, I would get around 85%ile in quants, and above 95%ile in VA/LR.
I have applied to SP Jain, NITIE, FMS, XIMB, IMT (Gzb) as of now.
May later apply to iits if %ile is good.
Not too sure about my snap/xat/nmat performance.
My question is, what should be my future course of action?
n1, it is less than a week to CAT results, a good score and success in interviews of top colleges should lead to MBA if you do not make it to any of the IIMs or top 20 institutes (non IIMs) then accept the job offer and go for CAT’14.
Sir
My acad are
X : 88.2
XII : 92
Graduation B.COM (H) : 69% (university of delhi) year : 2013
My cat attempt where QA/DI 19 ( 16 sure shot correct )
VA/LR : 20 (17 sureshot correct)
I have given nmat and snap aswell using cl model i would be missing on sibm pune as my score is coming out to be 32.45.
In nmat i had score 208 which i guess i would also miss by a mark or two.
I wanted to know if i could expect any call from top 20 colleges.
Geetak, NM is a borderline case and you are likely to get/miss the call by 1 mark.
In CAT with 16/19 in QADI and 17/20 in VALR you are likely to be around 97%ile with over 95%ile in both the sections. With good academic record, marks for gender diversity (female) and academic diversity (non-engg) you can expect a few IIM calls. Among the top 20 institutes (non IIMs) calls are also likely from SP Jain, MDI, XIMB, IRMA, MFC and IMT(Ghaziabad).
sir gender diversity is not applicable in my case, Male candidate. LOL
sir is sibm banglore a good college to apply ?
Oops mixed up Geetak and Geetika.
SIBM Blr is a good college but given your performance in the various test I am not sure if you should consider it.
thanxz alot sir 🙂
Sir I am having an experience of 26 months till now in a MNC .
my Academics are
10th 2004- —— 72%
12th 2006———66%
BTECH 2011 —- 63%
Cat 2013 Expected %le is above 98
i have only applied to NITIE till now ..
which colleges more i should apply now.. and what should be the priority ?
Ankit, you have missed out on many institutes from where you could have got calls from all Category A institutes. From the Category A+ institutes in addition to NITIE you should have considered IIT(D), S.P.Jain and MDI. However apart from the IITs most of these institutes would have closed their application window, please check.
yes Sir !! Is there any chance for me in IIT Mumbai and other TOP iims A,B,C,L,I,K,S
to get any call if i am close to 99%le?
Ankit, a general category candidate requires over 99.5% for IIM C but all other IIMs are possible at a score greater than 98%ile subject to a decent academic profile.
Ok Thank You Sir!!
Sir, I belong to Gen. Category from Madhubani,Bihar. My schooling was done from Bihar Board,Hindi Medium till class 10, after that Bihar Board I.Sc, English medium.I got class 12 degree in year 2000.After 4 year Gap, in 2004, i got admission in IIIT Allahabad, then worked for some private companies for few month, then Bank PO in a nationalized bank then as an engg. in a central govt. org,.
My percentage marks in class 10: 57 5, class 12: 59%, btech: 76%, predictable percentile in CAT: 99%ile(it was my first chance) , 2 times i have cleared IAS-Pre and other state PSC.
My Question is, what is my chance to get into any IIM or should i wait for another year, because this time i had not prepared it, just casually gave CAT exam.My age is going to be 31 .Expert Advise plz.
Kunal, given your profile and work experience it will advisable to go for a 1 year MBA program rather than take CAT and gofor a 2 year MBA program. You would be eligible for ISB Hyderabad and the 1 year programs of the IIMs.
Sir, I’m in my last year of graduation, I am already placed at TCS. My CAT performance wasn’t satisfactory
I have secured IIFT call with a score of 48.33
I have scored 221 in NMAT but only 59 in LR
And CMAT I scored 227.
And my SNAP predictor score is 32.42
Shall I apply for GIM? Please reply quickly since the registration end is within 40 minutes.
UD, apologise for the delay, just saw this query.
Hope you have applied to GIM as a back up option. Hopefully you will do well in XAT and in IIFT interview and not need the back up.
Hello sir….
I’m a dentist by profession and have appeared for CAT this year. Presently I’m working in a hospital and my work ex is 1.6 yr.Sir I’m not interested in clinical work and want to enter the corporate world. I’m expecting percentile between 80 to 90. What colleges should I apply and what are the future prospects for me considering my acad background??
Varun, given your background my suggestion is to go for a retake since you are unlikely to get into any good institute with your score. You can cosider applying to TAPMI and BIM Trichy.
Hello sir, My CMAT score is 193, NMAT is 191 (62, 65,64-qa, lr, va)…Can you please help me out as to what i should look forward to? I am a graduate in arts and in MA 1st yr.
Pihu91, while a call from NM institutes is unlikely at 191, with a CMAT score of 193 you car apply to GIM, KJ Somaiya and Welingkar.
Sir, I am NC OBC student. Expecting more than 85 %. I have already applied to MIB, MFC and MBE. Shall I apply to NIRMA?? I have total exp of 16 months.
Saurabh, I was travelling and could not respond earlier. Apologise for the delay.
NIRMA may not be possible at 85%ile as it does not have reservation for NC-OBC students. You can consider applying to IITs after the CAT result is declared. All except IIT Mumbai are possible.
Thanku sir 🙂
Sir What are the chances of conversion to SP JAIN or XLRI HRM? I am a freshers with no work ex!! My acads is 92-10th, 84-12th, 73-grads!! pls tell the percentile required and the number of candidates admitted as freshers in a batch in these two!!
Suvam, XLRI HR is not a problem but SP Jain is usually difficult without work experience. Please check the batch profile if the two institutes, it should be available on their websites. XLRI HR usually has a cutoff around 90-92%ile while SP Jain needs 95%ile.
Hi Sir,
I have just completed 2 yrs in a Software MNC. My current salary is 4.5 lks pa and I am an engineer in Computer Science(2011 pass out).
My acads
10th: 88%
12th: 70%
B.Tech: 8.2 CGPA
This year I have appeared for CAT,SNAP,IIFT and will be appearing XAT. As per CL prediction my CAT %le will be between 93-96. in SNAP it’s showing 22.1+9=31.1.
IIFT not shortlisted.(Score is 42)
So I would request you to suggest what are the colleges that I can get in given my acads and performance in CAT and also which are the colleges that come in the threshold range. Like below those I should not do MBA this year. I belong to a lower middle class family. So I will be considering ROI also.
And is it worth preparing for another year???
Tanmaya, You should consider applying to IIT(D), XIMB, IIT(Kgp), IIT(M), IIT(R), IIT(K), MFC, MBE, Great Lakes (1 yr prog), BIM, TAPMI, LBSIM and GIM.
Sir, I have scored OA-212(QS-70,LS-76,LR-66) in my 2nd attempt on 3rd december 2013.
Could you please tell me my chances for nmims mumbai, bangalore/hyderabad campuses keeping in mind my quant score?
Also, what could be expected QS cut off for nmims mumbai?
Hemant, your overall and LR are fine, LS is excellent but 70 in QS is unlikely to clear the cutoff. It should be minimum 75 to be sure of a call. Last year the QS cutoff was 72.
Hi ,
I am working in a MNC and would have 3 years of experience at 20 dec.I want to know which MBA college should I take?My cat exam was not good…SNAP I am not sure.Last time I got 84 in XAT and 66 in CAT ,Not sure about this time .Should I take colleges like GIM Goa,TAPMI,KJ Somaiya,Symbiosis International Business if I clear their cut off or should I drop the idea and should
go for some executive mba.XAT is still on the way .But I am not sure about my performance.Eagerly waiting for your reply.
My MNC is one of the leading software companies like Wipro.Infosys,TCS etc .Right now package of around 4 .
Piyush, apologise for the delay, I was travelling and hence the delay.
With a 3 year work experience and a package of around 3 lakh, GIM and TAPMI can be considered but I would not be keen on SIIB and KJ Somaiya. GL Chennai 1 year program can also be considered by you.
However go through the XAT paper and let us discuss this again once the results are out.
sir,
Q:1)what is fees structres for IIM’s and other top b-schools for MBA?
Q:2)is there any value for mba doing in other than iim’s like IIT’s etc any placements for them?
Hasini,
Fee structure of some b-schools for 2013-15 batch was as follows:
IIM Ahmedabad: Rs. 16.6 lacs
IIM Bangalore: Rs. 17 lacs
IIM Calcutta: Rs. 13.5 lacs
IIM Lucknow: Rs. 10.8 lacs
IIM Indore: Rs. 13 lacs
IIM Kozhikode: Rs. 9.70 lacs
IIM Shillong: Rs. 10.5 lacs
NITIE: Rs. 6.3 lacs
XLRI: Rs. 7.85 lacs + hostel charges
FMS Delhi: Rs. 21,560
JBIMS: Rs. 2 lacs
IIFT: Rs. 13.25 lacs
IIT Mumbai: Rs. 2.25 lacs
SIBM Pune: Rs. 10 lacs
And there are many b-schools which are comparable to some IIMs and some are even better than newer IIMs.
thank u sir,
sir hw much percentile required for fms,iit-mumbai,iit-kgp,xlri,nitie,sibm,jbrms………..i belongs to bc…………..
Hasini, an OBC candidate with over 90%ile in CAT can get calls from most of the top MBA institutes. A score of 95%ile will ensure a call from all.
XLRI and SIBM do not have OBC reservation and JBIMS has reservation only for Maharashtra candidates.
respected sir,
iam btech-eee i dont know anything about mba cat and other exams now iwant to take coaching for cat 2014,
my first doubt -what is the difference b/n the mba and pgdm, and also which is best from it(MBA orPGDM) i came from a middele class family i want to lift my family from low to high iam 2013 pass ot .and iwant to know about the fees for -IIMS-A,B,C,L,K,I,S and top b-schools and FMS,S.P.JAIN etc and get 100% placements what percentile sholu to get in cat to get a seat from this colleges
my acadamics are
tenth-86(state board)
intermediate-73
btech-65
iam waiting for ur reply sir ……………
thanking you
SIR CAN ANYBODY HEAR MY VOICE
PLEASE HELP ME…………
Chandu, I answer all queries myself and due to heavy traffic there can be occasional delays. Please be patient.
Your query has been responded.
thank u sir ,
iam from ap what are the chance for getting ICFAI or ibs HYDERABAD,what is the fees and is there any 100% guarantee for placements……………..
Rocky, no institute can give 100% placement guarantee. ICFAI Hyd has a fee of around Rs 12 lakh for its 2 year MBA program. Its average salary is around 5.5 lakh pa.
Chandu, there is no difference between PGDM and MBA. Since only a University can offer a degree hence all the autonomous institutes offer a AICTE approved PGDM which is equivalent to a degree.
The fee for MBA from the IIMs and most of the top B-schools is between 12-15 lakhs while that of MBA from NITIE and IITs is around 6 lakh and that of JBIMS, FMS, MFC etc will be around 1 lakh.
A general category candidate needs to score over 95%ile to get into a good B school, for IIMs you should target 99%ile.
SIR,
how much percentile should get in cat to place in ISB HYDERABAD.
Rocky, ISB is through GMAT and not CAT.
thank u sir ,
my acads are
10th-85
12th-72
grad-66
2013 pass ot aspiring to take cat 2014 with no work experience, i belongs to OBC, how much percentile should i get into the any iims-(a,b,c,l,i,k,s),fms,s.p.jain………what package should i get after mba from these colleges
Rocky, you should target 95%ile in CAT’14 with 90%ile in each section to ensure a call from all the IIMs, FMS and other institutes that have NCOBC reservation.
SP Jain does not have reservation but a call is possible at 95%ile.
Salary package varies but you can assume around Rs10 lakh pa.
Respected Sir,
Can you tell me how is the placement record for ICFAI Hyderabad? I learned it has a batch strength of 900+ and have come across in many forums like pagalguy that the placements are around 50% of batch strength, hence making it less desirable considering the roi factor. Is that so?
Also if you can tell me if any other campus under the ICFAI University like IBS Mumbai Or Kolkata might be a good choice?
Looking forward to your earliest reply.
Rituparna, only ICFAI Hyderabad is worth joining the others should not be considered.
ICFAI Hyderabad provides decent placement to its top 300 students but after that getting a job becomes progressively difficult, to the best of my knowledge also only about 50-60% of the stdents are placed.
Not sure why my earlier query did not elicit a response, so posting it again.
I currently have a work exp of 35 years in the IT sector. My question is, do people with more than 3 yrs of experience find it hard to get campus placement and summer internship offers, and if they do, its at lower packages compared to what freshers get? I have heard that this is the scenario at a few colleges, hence this question.
Also, given this, which colleges should I apply to? A brief snapshot of my profile follows.
Xth – 88 , XIIth – 84.2 , BE – 65.5%
CAT – not good(CL %ile predictor says QA 75+, VA 96,+ OA94+) , NMAT – 213
This was my 1st and will be my last attempt at Indian MBA entrance exams. If I do not make it to a godo college this year, I may chose to take the GMAT, or do an exec-MBA later, or skip the MBA plan altogether.
Please guide
As of today, I have a work ex of 35 months (all in IT). Now, I have heard that people with 3 or more yrs of experience find it hard to get summer internships and campus placements in MBA colleges, and even if they do, its at lower packages compared to freshers. How true is this? And if so, which colleges should I apply to keeping this in mind?
PS: MY current package is 5.8 L. This was my 1st and last attempt at CAT and other Indian MBA entrance exams. If I do not get into a good college this year, its either a no-MBA or a GMAT next year or an Executive-MBA somewhere down the line for me.
Pulkit, a few students with high work experience may have struggled to get internships but it could be because of some other reason. By and large this is not correct. Given your work experience and current package you should focus on the top 20-25 MBA institutes only.
In case you do not get into a good institutes this year, my suggestion will be take GMAT and go for 1 year MBA from ISB Hyderabad or from a top institute outside India.
Sir,
I have a doubt regarding the CAT %ile predictor. Earlier, after my exam when i had filled the form, it showed an overall of 79%ile and now it is showing an overall of 95.54%ile. Since, I need to apply to colleges based on the estimated score, I’m now confused as to which score I should depend on.. With the earlier estimate, I had thought of not applying to colleges under CAT but concentrating on other exams like SNAP, CMAT and XAT. But now, after seeing the revised score, I’m confused. Please help..
Nitin, you can go ahead with the updated Percentile Predictor, with more data at our disposal we have been able to improve it. however if you want to be sure do share your attempts and corrects for me to re-confirm.
Also at 95.5%ile is the lower end of score for calls from most of the good institutes hence you should continue with your focus on SNAP and XAT.
Sir,
This was my first attempt in CAT and although I had prepared well and taken a good number of tests, but during my exam due to questions which seemed easy but took more time than required, I missed out on the lengthy geometry questions which could be solved. I could attempt 10 questions with 9 correct in QADI and 20 questions with 18 correct in VALR. I was, anyway, not pinning hopes on the IIMs even with a higher score as my acads range from 70-80% throughout. Should I apply to B+ category colleges now or count on other exams like you said as I want to join a B school this year itself?
Nitin, what is your back up option? If you have a good job in hand and would not like to settle for a lower institute then you should not worry about the lower ranked institutes but focus on XAT (for XLRI and XIMB) and IIFT only. Else please enter your attempt and estimated correct in the True Percentile Predictor at http://www.careerlauncher.com/cat2013 to get an idea of your CAT percentile. The B-school Advisory will also give you the list of institutes from where you can get interview calls based on your category.
Sir,
i have taken this year cat.i belong to NC OBC category.can u please mention which all colleges other than IIMs have NC OBC reservation so that i can apply.?
Vinayak, You can apply to FMS, NITIE, IITs, MFC, MBE etc. All Govt institutes have reservation.
can you hear my voice…………..
Sai, Your query has been responded.
I answer all the queries myself on a “first come first served” basis and due to heavy rush some of these get delayed. Request patience a your end.
respected sir,
my 10th-84.9%
my 12th-71.6%
my graduation(B.Tech-EEE)-65.35%.
iam a fresher sir 2013 passout.i didn’t applied for 2013’s cat, cmat, xat exams because application time is over.i have no job sir till now.i want to full time preparation on cat for CAT-2014.Because i want to get a seat in iim-A,B,C or any high b-schools to get in 2014 cat exam.sir my doubt are
1)due to my 10th,12th,B.Tech(acadamics) is there is any effect on iiims and b-schools if there how much percentile should i get through…………
2)i have no work experience is there any effect, how come from this to get through in iim or the best b-schools (descent colleges).
3)is there any reservation available for getting seat in iim,b schools because i belongs to OBC_NC.
4)which books are suitable get good percentile in cat (because sir i dont know anything about cat but iam so much intrested in cat mba )to get through in iim,b-schools.
5)i didn’t face any interveiw,gd or anything else how can i get through in it
sir please help sir from all these make mind sure to get in iims,b-schools.
please reply me sir iam waiting for ur response
regards
sai
Sai, your XII and graduation marks a bit low and could impact IIM A and B. IIM C should not be a problem since it has a very low weightage for school marks. However top 10 students in each section or overall get a direct interview call from IIMB and IIMA gives a direct interview call to top 50 students in each category.
All IIMs and Govt institutes have reservation for OBC/SC/SC/ST/PWD students. As a NC OBC student you should target 95%ile in CAT to have a good chance of getting into a top B school. Work experience is helpful but you can get through without it also.
No specific books are available for MBA preparation and it will be best to join a classroom correspondence program for preparation.
thank you very much sir .
Respected Sir,
I gave my CAT on 31st Oct. My attempts were 18 in QA/DI with 16+ correct and 26 in VA/LR with atleast 19-20 correct.
Do I still have a shot at BLACKIS?
Ankush, Please enter your attempt and estimated correct in the True Percentile Predictor at http://www.careerlauncher.com/cat2013 to get a clear idea of your CAT percentile. The B-school Advisory will also give you the list of institutes from where you can get interview calls based on your category.
My estimate is that you would be above 95%ile in both the sections and with 36-37 correct answers out of 44 attempts your overall score would be around 97%ile. This rules out IIM C and A but the other IIMs are possible.
Sir,
CMAT results are out.. my score is 194.. percentile is 92.xx
Profile
10th-91.2
12th-89.8
Grad-81.4
fresher – 2014 passout….
which descent b-schools i could try for with CMAT
Sumit, you can try KJ Somaiya and Welingkar.
Respected sir,
As far as I have been told by my seniors, that cut offs for KJ Somaiya and Welingkar are quite high and my score lacks behind. So is that the profile that gives me an edge ?? apart from these 2 colleges which other descent colleges I can apply to.
And sir my nmat score is also out 174. I am giving a re-take. what are my chances with this score and since I am giving a re-take what minimum score puts me on a safer side ?? my profile is mentioned above
Sumit, this year the CMAT paper was tougher as compared to last year and hence the score required could reduce for KJ Somaiya and Welingkar.
At 174 in NMAT you should go for a retake as this is unlikely to get you a call from NM. The minimum target score for you is 205 with at least 75 in QS, 55 in LS and 65 in LR.
Sir, I am a B.Tech graduate with less than a yr work ex and 70-80% range throughout academics. I took CAT on 26th Nov., and it didn’t go well. Could attempt only 10(with 9 correct) in QADI and 20(with atleast 18 correct) in VALR. Should I apply to colleges from my percentile range (CL percentile predictor showed 78-80) or concentrate on other exams like NMAT, SNAP,CMAT n XAT?
Chanda, at less than 90%ile hardly any decent B school is available so you would bee better off focusing on other tests especially SNAP and CMAT.
hello sir,
I am 22 years old and hav obtained 85 in 10th and 80 in 12th…i completed my B.E in 2012 with 65%.
i have 15 months of work ex till then….
i took CAT on Oct 23,2013. my attempt in QA 26 and in VA 22. i am expecting 20+ correct in QA and 16+ in VA….can you tell me what percentile should i expect…and what colleges should i apply for accordingly in case of best and worst case scenario.
Vishal, these are very good attempts, you would be above 95%ile ih both sections and an aggregate of around 98%ile. A couple of extra correct answers could take you above 99%ile, you should target only the A+ institutes and can apply to a few Category A institutes as a back up.
Please fill in your attempt and estimated correct attempts at http://www.cateerlauncher.com/cat2013 in the True CAT Percentile Predictor, to check your estimated percentile. The B School Advisory will also suggest the institutes you should apply to based on your percentile and category.
Sir,
I completed my engineering from Jadavpur University in 2012,I have worked in TCS for 14 months and currently enrolled in CL Jamshedpur for CAT ’14 .
Profile:

Please suggest what colleges/courses should be kept in mind as I have an interest towards social sector.
Also should I get myself a job or an internshp while preparing for the exams?
Tridib, if you are interested in Social Sector then the Agri Business Management (ABM) program of IIM A & L, IRMA and HR program of TISS should be considered. While preparing for MBA exams you should continue with your job. If you have already quit then pick up some part time work or volunteer work.
Sir,
I am 27yrs old, and working in the education industry. Ive been giving CAT since graduation, but each time fare badly, maybe because of weak Mathematics background (thats my analysis.)
I went through GP sir’s blogpost “How a pathetic student made it to IIMB”. That was inspiring! But not all tales are fairy tales.
In my case, i think i have exhausted my mental energy in running after CAT.
Please suggest strategy for TISS , SNAP and CMAT, as CAT now is beyond my domain. My verbal sectional percentile in CAT’12 was 92. So i need to sharpen my QA.
Kindly suggest strategy related to the above mentioned exams. And also guide me on how to overcome this stigma.
Vignesh
Vignesh, 3 attempts at CAT is mmoe than enough and I agree with your decision of not continuing with it. With your work experience you should consider 1 year MBA programs from ISB Hyderabad or top institutes outside India for which you should take GMAT.
With respect to your the other MBA entrances, I will be writing separately on each one of them.
Sir,
I sat for NMAT a day back. i had 5 DI sets. 3 of them had very complex calculation. Will a paper like this be considered difficult. should i try NMAT again? My english and logical section went pretty well.
Bhavya, NMAT declares the results in phases. The result of the students who took NMAT in the first 20 days should be out in the next 7-10 days so wait for your scores before deciding on the retake. However if you are not confident of an overall score greater than 210 with sectional score around 60 in English, 70 in Reasoning and 80 in QA then you should book a retake slot asap. In QA an attempt of around 30 is good.
Thank you sir!
i have done msc in chemistry. Can i apply to nitie?
Apratim, only engineers are eligible for NITIE.
sir do institutes like SPJAIN,MDI,Narsee Monjee follow reservation policies laid down by the govt??
Vishwaas, only Govt funded institutes and Symbiosis institutes offer reservation for PWD, NC-OBC, SC and ST candidates.
thank you sir for your suggestion
and sir i am just 12 days away from my dday…what should be my mental set up from now to give my best on that day…
keenly waiting for your valuable suggestion…
Aritra
Sir how is IMT nagpur?? Is it worth with 2 years of experience??
Not really.
Hello sir,
My profile
Xth – 88.4%, XIIth – 63%, Grad – 80+ expected, Non-engineer, Co-curricular activities – Above average
I’m kinda sure that my 12th percentage is a big obstacle in getting calls from reputed Management colleges. My question is, what all colleges will reject me just by seeing my 12th percentage, even if I get an excellent percentile in CAT?
Ayush, if you get an interview call it will not be an issue. It could however reduce your profile score and hence some of the IIMs may not give you a call unless you have a very high CAT percentile.
Dear Sir,
1. Cl mocks are predicting most probable percentage as 97.XX and best as 99.XX. But my scores are fluctuating with as low as 70 percentile also! I am bit worried regarding that. Can you suggest something as a last moment prep? 2 weeks left for CAT
2. I have a production background and currently working in a TATA Steel and SAIL JV. How good is RGIPT ? Is there any advantage in pursuing MBA in such a specialization as oil and gas or energy sector? If yes can you please rate RGIPT,UPES and PDPU?
3. Some of the colleges want a work ex certificate. What exactly do I need to produce? Will the joining letter and current pay slip do? Or do I need to give something in writing from HR?
Thanks and regards
Neha
Neha, apologise for the delay in responding to your query.
1. the fluctuation in your scores is an area of concern and can possibly be taken care of by revision of the papers that you have taken so far. If you are able to relax in the paper and do not put yourself under huge pressure then you can have a stable performance chart. In the time remaining my suggestion is that you follow what I have written in the bloggpost 4 Weeks to CAT’13 – Ab billi door nahin. Pay special attention to the past CAT papers since questions are being repeated from these papers.
2. With your profile RGIPT, UPES, PDPU are not recommended, not only are these too specialised but also they are not highly regarded.
3. AT present you do not need to get anything from HR, your appointment letter + latest pay slip are sufficient.
All the best.
sir in my mocks i get near abt 17 questions right in section 1 and 15-16 right in section 2..how much percentile should i expect? will i be able to get thru IMI DELHI,LBSIM…? please do reply
Nikita, this is good performance and you should be targeting the Category A+ and A institutes only. IMI, LBS etc are definitely on if you can repeat your performance in CAT.
To get an estimate of your CAT percentile based on your current Mock CAT performance please visit http://www.careerlauncher.biz/cat2013/home.jsp# You could also check the videos that give the institute wise target attempts based your category.
sir,
as the cl percentile predictor says my best is 98 and likely is 92.i am a engineering fresher wid no job in my hand.i would like to know what type of colleges i would apply.i am a cl-gariahat(kolkata) student…
waiting for ur reply ,
aritra
Aritra, apply to CAtegory A+ and A institutes and to a couple of Category B institutes as a back up.
thank you sir for your suggestion
and sir i am just 12 days away from my dday…what should be my mental set up from now to give my best on that day…
keenly waiting for your valuable suggestion…
Aritra
sir my attempt in qadi section around 19-20 with 1-2 negative most of the times due to silly mistake
my attempt in valr is around 13-14 with 2-3 -ve, english being a problem most of the times.
my cpp is-best 99.05
avg 98
mock score 75- 84
highest 93 till date
will my boat sail through in CAT
Chirag, VALR is a worry and if you can take your correct answers in this section to 15 correct answers then you should be safe. With good grasp of QADI, the 9 LR questions in VALR could be your way out of the problem. In CAT you could consider spending 30-35 minutes for the LR questions and then move on to the other question types that you are comfortable with. If you are not comfortable with RC then attempt only 1 passage after checking the subject and the question types. Similarly there is no harm in leaving phrasal verb and sentence correction questions. Out of the remaining 21 EU+RC questions you will need to attempt another 9-10 questions with 6-7 right answers.
Hello,
Can you please help me out ?
i currenlty work as a Software Professional with around 2 yrs Exp.
Any sugesstions you can provide me ?
I can join some coaching center for CAT in weekends. But, is that enough for me to crack CAT if i go to weekend classes and work 1 hour per day on CAT?
I need you valuable comments or sugesstions
Cheers
Thank you
Abhi, for CAT 14 1 hr per day will be insufficient if you have not prepared earlier. For the first 3-4 months you will need to put in about 12-15 hrs per week and then you can reduce it to about 10-12 hours per week. In addition to classroom programs you can also consider preparing via a self study mode through the online program Smart CAT Cracker.
FMS delhi forms are out or i have missed the last date?
I am unable to find any link on their website..
Sakshi, FMS has not come out with its notification as yet.
Sir,
I have majored in Business Administration and have 4.5 years of work exp(incl 1 yr international exp). I am looking for an MBA or a masters program specializing in marketing domain,I would like to make an application through GMAT.Kindly suggest which schools or universities should I consider in India as well as in abroad?
Karan, please contact Rajat Ghosh Chowdhury at gc.rajatk@gmail.com for guidance on international MBA programs.
Respected Sir,
According to the CLPP , my highest %ile is 99.85 and median is 99.43.
My Acads are:
10th – 91.8
12th – 83.8
B.Tech / 7 th Semester – 8.48
No Work experience but placed in a business consulting firm CTC>4.
My questions are
1) What are the colleges I should ideally apply to?
2) What should be my backup colleges?
3) What is to be done to go from 99.xx to 99.7x+?
Thank you Sir
Ankush,
1. with you academic profile and estimated CAT percentile, you should join only the top institutes – IIMs, FMS, XLRI and JBIMS.
2. As a back up you can consider IIT Bombay, NITIE, MDI and IIFT. While it is not recommended but if you are desperate to do an MBA this year itself then you can consider XIMB, SIBM, NM Mumbai and SCMHRD also.
3. Improvement in accuracy/attempt by a question in each section can take you from 99.xx to 99.7x+. Just continue with your method of practice and revision, do not try anything different at this stage.
Thank you sir for your prompt reply. I had been fretting over this for days.
do jamnalal bajaj take cat
if yes then how to apply.
i am not getting information in its website
Chirag, for JBIMS you will need to apply with your CMAT score.
Sir , my best %ile is 94 and median is 87. Which coll I should target.
Work Exp – 2.5 yrs (ctc – 4lpa)
10th – 89.4%
12th – 73%
Grad – 83.4%
Saurabh, go for Category A and B+ institutes. Additionally you should apply to a couple of A+ institutes also.
sir m not consistent with my marks.
sometimes i get a good score but sumtyms m nt even able to clear the cut off..
what shall i do .??
Alka, this typically happens due to lack of concentration or due to lack of practice and revision. In the few days before CAT please focus on practice and revision as suggested in the blog post 4 Weeks to CAT: Ab billi door nahin. Do pay special attention to past CAT papers.
Hello sir,
my father owns a sports goods manufacturing company and i too have a active participation in it from class 12 and all round my graduation. my main aim to pursue a MBA is also due to it. i am currently in my final year of graduation(b.tech).
can this be considered as a work exp. in institutes like MDI, IMT, SNAP, XAT.
Akshay, most of the institutes give weight to full time work experience after graduation so this will not be counted as work experience. However you should definitely mention this wherever possible like in “any other information”. This will be of great help in the interviews.
hello sir,
acc. to clpp model,
most likley- 92.41
best attempt- 97.94
but i have not been a consistent performer(largley in unprocted mocks) like sometimes i get 95percentile but sometimes it goes upto 65percentile.i generally clear the verbal section cutoff but land at boundry in quant section. should i apply to MDI, IMT, SNAP, XAT. if not then which clgs should i apply.
also please suggest some stratergy to prepare, i have my CAT slot on 1 nov.
10th- 84.8%
12th- 79.8%
btech(pursuing)- 74.5%(till now)
Akshay, apologise for the delay in responding to your query. Based on your estimated CAT percentiles, You should be applying to MDI, IMT, SNAP (SIBM, SCMHRD), XAT (XLRI and XIMB). While you should restrict yourself to Category A+ and A colleges, you can consider applying to BIM and TAPMI as a backup.
Please refer to the blogpost 4 Weeks to CAT: Ab billi door nahin for your preparation plan for the next 2 weeks. For the number of attempts in CAT please check the video in the blogpost CAT 2013: How many attempts for an IIM call?. Additional videos that focus on category wise attempts for different institutes are available at at http://www.careerlauncher.biz/cat2013/.
Sir i took Mock Nmat today and my score was 68. (17 in Verbal , 27 in Quants and 24 in Logical reasoning) My nmat slot is on 27th october. What should be my strategy nw to get a higher score? I faced problem with parajumbles , antonyms and synonyms and RC as i felt tym was less. Apart from this in logical reasoning i had problem with statements n conclusion types. I guess to get NMIMS mumbai a score of 75+ in mock nmat is must. plz help with this sir.
Sanju, while the QA and Reasoning score are okay, English and hence the total score are low. Both the EU and overall scores need to go up by 4-5 marks.
Sir, my best %ile is 99+ and median is 97. I will be applying only to FMS and after results IIT B and D. But my aim is to get only in top IIMs. Plz tell me from which IIMs I could get calls. Following is my profile:
Xth: 86% (MH board)
XIIth: 81% (MH board)
BE: 62% (Pune Uni)
No WE…
Sanjay, IIM A and B could be difficult due to low graduation marks but IIM C, L and the others should not be a problem. In addition to IIT Mumbai and Delhi you should apply to MDI and NITIE also. CMAT feb from the point of JBIMS should also be taken.
Hello Sir,
While taking mocks, my percentile range is fluctuating from 60s to 95s . Hence am not able to build confidence.
The last attempt was Proc Mock 10 with 85.7 percentile
After analysis what I have seen is that towards the end of the exam , it becomes really hard for me to concentrate which makes doable questions like Parajumbles , Easy LR , either wrong and leaving it unattempted.
Similarly in the section 1 doable DI becomes difficult to interpret and connect the Tables , Charts , and other Data.
Please advise… Actual CAT on 5th Nov
What practices can I adopt to maintain High Brain Efficiency and Concentration for the complete test.
Akash
Akash, apologise for the delay in responding to your query. You will need to build stamina for the paper. It might be useful for you to take 3 back to back section tests (70 minutes x 3) to achieve this goal.
sir i am not consistent with my marks sometimes i get 90 percentile n den back in 60’s what should i do sir?
Ishita, this usually happens due to lack of revision while preparing and lack of concentration while taking the test. Which of these two do you suffer from?
mostly lack of revision i dont know how should i study now plzz sir help me in making a schedule. waiting for your reply sir.
Ishitta, please check the blogpost 4 Weeks to CAT’13 – Ab billi door nahin, it deals with the specific issue raised by you.
plzz help me sir in making a schedule for these last 15 days i am lacking in revision only
Ishita, Please refer to the blog post 4 Weeks to CAT’13 – Ab billi door nahin for the last 2 week preparation plan. Focus on the past CAT papers.
Hello Sir,
Attempt in mocks : 41 (QA/DI-19 nd VALR-22) with around 75-77% accuracy. Which clgs should I target? Shall I apply for IMI-Delhi and IMT Gaziabad?
Profile:-
X-89.4% XII-87.4%
B-Tech(Instrumentation) – 86%
Work EX in TCS – 2yrs(by March 2014)
CTC-3.8lac(now)
(Projected CTC by 2014, March – 4.6lac)
Suman, what percentiles are you getting in Mocks and what estimate does the Percentile Predictor give?
Based on what you have written, IMI and IMT should be applied to. At present you are in the CAtegory A/B+ and should restrict yourself to these colleges only.
Sir,
I have consistently got 98 percentiles in mock test. Can i expect a call from old IIMs with this percentile. i am in th 7th sem of Btech and i have 7.8 CGPA.
Kaynenorth, yes you have a very good chance of getting calls from the top IIMs. Continue with your hard work.
sir do IMT GAZIABAD AND IMI DELHI extend their dates? the last date is 15th oct…can i apply to it after my cat exam? please do reply
Sanchita, they could but do not bank on it happening. Suggest you apply now based on your Mock CAT scores or CAT percentile estimated by the CL Percentile Predictor.
SIR
I want to know that should i apply for TISS nor not.
i dun have any any work expierence and i have completed my B.tech in 2013.
i will be giving CAT thid time.
reply soon sir
Alka, TISS HR is considered at par with HR from XLRI and if you are keen on HR specialisation then TISS is a must.
Hello Sir,
I have been graduated in 2010(B.tech EEE).After graduating i tried many things and finally got job in 2012 in an IT company.Getting into a top B-School is my primary goal.I planned to crack CAT after gaining 3 yrs exp.But my problem is that i have 2 years gap in my profile.Would this gap ruin my chances of getting into Category A+ institutes? Please help me on this.
Sreekanth, it will not ruin your chances. Focus on your work and CAT preparation.
Following are my academic details.
Class X 84.60% CBSE Board completed in 2005
Class XII 56.40% CBSE Board completed in 2007
BCA 62.83% from IGNOU completed in Jun 2013
Working in TATA STEEL on permanent payroll from Feb 2010 after completing Trade Apprenticeship.
If i expect to get a percentile of 95 in CAT 13. Please guide me whether i should apply for IMT Ghaziabad, SP Jain, MDI Gurgaon, JBIMS-Mumbai or NOT?
Sanu, if you are expecting over 95%ile in CAT then you should apply to all these institutes. Vor JBIMS you will need to appear for CMAT.
Hello Sir,
I have been a CL student in my clg days(2010 attempt).
This year I am again writing. Attempt in mocks : 41 (QA/DI-19 nd VALR-22) with around 75-77% accuracy. Which clgs should I target?
Profile:-

B-Tech(Instrumentation) – 86%
Work EX in TCS-2yrs(by March 2014)
CTC-3.8lac(now)

Suman, your profile and scores suggest that you should be applying only to Category A+ and A institutes. Your current performance can get you IIM calls. Please check your estimated CAT Percentile in the CL Percentile Predictor.
Sir,

Should I apply to MDI, Imt and imi, (any)iit….??

Pls reply

praveen
Praveen, MDI is unlikely below 95%ile and you should apply only if you are reasonably sure of improving your best case. IMT, IMI are good institutes and you will have a chance in these at your estimated scores. You should consider applying to all the IITs except Mumbai and Delhi – Kgp and Madras are the best after Mumbai and Delhi but Roorkee and Kanpur also provide decent placement.
Sir , My Most likely percentile according to CLPP is 87 and best attempt percentile is 95.27. My slot is on 20th October. What should be done in these 8-10 days and what could be my percentile in Cat 2013.
And what all colleges should i apply for
Rocky, apply to Category A and B+ institutes. You can apply to a couple of Category A+ institutes. You can apply to a couple of Category A+ institutes also. In the few days to CAT focus on Mock CATs, Past CAT papers and revision of important questions
sir, my mock score is in range of 80-94%ile…. 10th-90% 12th-75.2% b.tech-71% so sir for which b-schools should i look???????
Saantosh, choose a few from each category A, B+ and B. Do consider the IITs also, Mumbai and Delhi are difficult but the others are possible. Check the CL Percentile Predictor for an estimate of your CAT percentile to take a final call on the institutes.
Sir I have a job with a CTC>10,00,000 ….Should I apply to MDI and SPJAIN?
Vivek, these can be your back ups only. Ideally it should be only the top IIMs, XLRI, JBIMS and FMS DU.
sir,
Is there any reservation for nc-obc , sc and sc candidates in MDI Gurgaon ???
Ankita, MDI does not have any reservations.
Hi GP Sir,
I have 2+ yr experience in research, Business Development and cause marketing. My CAT %ile is 60-70. So, targeting TISSNET and MAT for TISS (HR), Social Entrepreneurship and TERI.
Even after putting all my energies, my score limits to 60-65 in TISSNET. Please please…guide me.
Ajay, TISSNET last year was a GK paper and you should focus on building up this area. Will have the last year’s paper uploaded shortly.
how accurate is the cl percentile predictor..? it is predicting a 98.92 for me..what b schools should i target? and should i focus on more on accuracy or the number of attempts as i have heard that normalization is done on the raw score and also last year i concentrated more on accuracy attempting only 40 question( 18 -qa, 22 -va) ending with a mere 95.54 %ile.?
Ashish, The CLPP is based on an Advanced Statistical Model which has been developed over the past 5 years after analyzing the correlation of mock scores against final CAT percentiles submitted by students. Use it to decide the B schools to target and remember that you do on the D day will be your final percentile.
In CAT’12 18+22 was a good attempt and possibly accuracy or normalisation did you in.
sir, I hav completed b.tech in 2k13(ISM Dhanbad) , currently working as mining engg in coal India ltd. a/c cl rank predictor i am getting 99.48 which collg I should target??
Mrinal, only the Category A+ colleges. You can apply to some of the Category A colleges (MDI, XIMB, TISS(HR), IIFT, SIBM(Pune), SCMHRD) as a back up.
Sir,
I’ve completed my graduation in 2012(Engineering).. I have work ex of 10 months..this is my first attempt of CAT..according to CL percentile predictor my highest percentile is 97.88 & median 95+…. I’m looking for the IIMs (A,B,C & new ones)..what r my chances?? what other institutes should I apply to?
p.s- my 10th——– 95.5 %
12th————–98%
Sandeep, you have very good chances of making it to the top IIMs with your current performance. IF your marks in graduation are as impressive as the X/XII marks then cal from all IIMs is possible.
Hello Sir,
This post is really useful for most including me , however I seek your guidance because of the unconventional profile.
Brief of my profile : 1987 born ,
10: 82.5
12th :65 ( Sci)
Grad 71 % ( Bcom with Specialization in mgmnt)
: Started working after 12th in ITES/ BPO sector and worked for 5 years and also complete by graduation during the last 3 years of my Job in Night college . I got good growth and immense learning experience during my 5 years .
Took a break and then started an ecommerce venture in 2011 which has enjoyed reasonable success and the venture continues with limited growth because im Involved in cat prep since last 3 months.
The dilemma that I face is , are any institutes which are not A+ will do justice to my profile moreover, is my the the kinda of profile which will be suitable to top A+ category.
With A list of Bschools , my concern is not even the package but the kind of companies that come for recruitment, should not work to my disadvantage.
Another part being that if my final perctentile is not good enough for A+, I do not think one more year will make things any better . (age being on the higher side )
Im very keen to pursue Mgmnt roles in Consulting , Marketing , Technology , Ecommerce or Media as a career option .
So final set of question
1) Should my age be a concern playing on my mind since most of the candidates preparing are <24 ? moreover if it comes to it , do you think giving one more shot at CAT ( +1 year) will not be detrimental
2) Among the A list of bschools which ones do you think are suitable for profile and interests suited to mine ?
3) Any other advise that you would like to give.
PS: Abroad education is not an option because of family reasons
Tarun, you have an excellent profile or a B school however B schools in India do not consider these facts while sending interview calls and focus only on CAT score and/or Marks in X, XII, Graduation. With not very high marks you will struggle to get interview calls from the top IIMs unless you have a very good CAT score. Given your profile it is only the A+ and selected A category institutes that should be considered by you.Coming to your questions:
1. You should ideally be going for 1 year program and this should be your last CAT attempt. In case you do not make it to any good MBA institute you should target the 1 year program of ISB Hyderabad. Infact you should apply to ISB Hyderabad this year also.
2. The A category institutes that you can consider are New IIMs, MDI, XIMB, IIFT, SIBM(Pune), SCMHRD, NM(Mumbai) and Great Lakes (1 yr prog).
Hello Sir,
want to know some colleges where Finance Or Marketing is good . I’m expecting a score of more 80%le for sure. Upper limit depends on the D-Day . I have a Work ex of 2 years. Currently not working !! Plz share your idea..
Thank You
Sanjoy, practically all the colleges offer good exposure and learning in Marketing and Finance so you need not differentiate at this stage between colleges. However for finance do apply to MFC and MBE programs of Delhi University and for marketing MICA is a must apply.
Sir, i m getting the highest percentile as 96.8 and median percentile as 95.21 as per the CL Percentile predictor……So can i expect my Actual Cat Percentile to hover around from 94-99 …Please suggest..
Pramit, already responded to this on FB. Just to repeat you are in this range and if you can get 1-2 extra correct answers then 99%ile+ is on.
Hi sir,
I am chandrashekar, i passed out in 2012 with a B.com degree and was working with mckinsey and company for around 16 months . i have put down my papers for preparing for cat however my scores are not up to the mark an i am finding it difficult to cross a 70 percentile in my mocks. kindly advise .
Chandrashekar, in limited time available you should focus on Mock CATs and past CAT papers as suggested in the blogpost 4 Weeks to CAT’13 – Ab billi door nahin
sir
how is IISWBM kolkata ? what is expected cut-off for obc student?
Govind, IISWBM is a decent back up institute and its cutoff would be below 80%ile
sir, CAT 2004-2008 quant section is in moderate-higher difficult level ( except cat 2006). But cat 1990-2004 cat quant section is in easy-moderate but tricky is in nature. what can we expect from (level of difficulty) this year cat. Does quantum cat level 1 is enough for this kind of questions..should i refersh level 2 also? guide me please..thanks in advance
Srinivasan, the paper has a mix of questions of various difficulty levels. However most of the questions woul;d be of the difficulty level of CAT 1997-2008. Before Quantam CAT please attempt all questions from past CAT papers. Please refer to my blogpost 4 Weeks to CAT’13 – Ab billi door nahin for details.
sir i graduated this yr,engg. and i’m 22.this is my first attempt at CAT,didnt give the exam in my final year.i have a job with a decent company,>3.your %ile predictor gives my best %ile as 94 and median as 88.what do you think are my chances? and which institutes should i apply to? would you advise taking another attempt if god forbid i’m not able to make it to A+,which are my sole targets? plz guide.
Jaspreet, you should by an large stick to the Category A and B+ institutes as suggested in this blogpost. You could however apply to a couple of Category A institutes in case you get a higher than 95%ile in CAT.
dear sir
my 10- 74% ,12-65% and BBA (H) – 59.4 % belong to pwd catogry completed my graduation this year getting around 80- 85%ile in mock cats applied to fms, iims, iift, bim trichy, irma anand , tiss and mib delhi… please guide me in which i apply and in which i dont
thanks
Inderpal Singh, the PWD is the most difficult cut off to estimate because it fluctuates wildly. Please check your estimated CAT percentile in CL Percentile Predictor to identify the right colleges. However, with 80-85%ile in Mocks CATs, my feeling is that you should be applying only to Category A+ and A institutes with a couple of back up institutes in Category B+..
Respected GP Sir,
I met you in Varanasi when you came here for SQC.
I have performed from 85-95 in CL’s proc mocks.
I am a 2013 CSE graduate.I have got a job of CTC>3.5 but my DOJ is 1st Jan,2014.
10th-88.2 % CBSE
12th-87.6 % CBSE
Grad- 6.91/10
How is my profile for Collgs in Category A ?
Which categories should I aim ?
Aanjan, your profile s fine. Please check your estimated CAT percentile in CL Percentile Predictor and apply accordingly. I think you should be restricting to Category A and A+ institutes. You should however apply to a couple of Category B+ institutes as a backup.
Sir…I’m not very sure about getting good percentile in cat because of my quants being in terrific condition, but i feel i can crack snap. Can you give me some tips as to how i should start preparing for snap? Gk is the main problem here. I have completed my graduation this year in commerce and I dont want to waste another year.
Parineeta, For SNAP and CMAT you should focus on Arithmetic and basic Algebra. SNAP at times has calculation intensive questions hence do work on your calculations also. In SNAP ech Reasoning question is worth 2 marks while the other areas have 1 mark/question. Hence Reasoning is the most important sections. English is easy but GK is the section that trips most of the students. Click here to check the analysis of SNAP 2012.
hello sir,
1 doubt..when do we actually apply for colleges??
After exam aur after the results are out???
There must be seperate fees for applying to various colleges??
Vishwaas, you will apply for colleges after they come out with their admission notification between August and December.
I am engineer with 3 years experience in IT…. SIOM or SIBM Bangalore ?
Roopak, while SIOMM is an older institute it has not really picked up and my preference is for SIBM Bangalore. The location is also an advantage for SIBM.
Thanks GP Sir … I converted KJ Somaiya PGDM Core via Feb CMAT.. Can I give pass to SIBM Bangalore when compared to KJ Somaiya’s flagship program ?
also i would lile to know which one should i prefer btwn K.j.Somaiya pgdm core or IIT KGP MHRM
Srabana, My preference is for KJ Somaiya PGDM core despite IIT Kgp being because MHRM is a new course and may bot be able to provide sufficient career opportunities. Also one should go for HRM only if you are sure that you want to specialise in this area. KJ Som PGDM core will allow you to choose your area of specialisation and by virtue of being in Mumbai you will have better industry interaction and placement opportunities.
Sir,I am a last year passout in Information technolgy( fresher),I would like to know how is the placement scene in sicsr, pune as I have converted the call. Also could you tell me about Bimtech, noida for retail and insurance buisness program and bimm, pune. Also do you have ideaabout AIM,Kolkatta.
sir, i have a 66.67%ile in cat. What are my chances of gettin BIMTECH (PGDM/PGDM(IB))?
Mandeep, call is difficult at this score.
Dear sir,
Thank you for the quick and succinct reply. Sir, I can do away with K and S. But if the rest of the IIIMs do give calls on getting percentiles, then may be I could give it a shot. And what about the non IIM b schools like JBIMS,FMS, IITs,NITIE etc? Will a good CAT score fetch me calls from them despite the poor acads?
Dear GP sir,
I am in a quandary and need your help.
I wish to give CAT13. But my acad is bothering me. My profile-
Class X-79.8%( west bengal board)
Class Xll- 72.3%(west bengal board)
B tech(ee)-67.3% from Nit K
I completed graduation in 2011 and working in SAIL since then. By the time of interviews, I will have a work xp of 2.5 yrs. I am a decent bass player and an active blogger( i hope they count as xtracurriculars). Supposing that I get a decent percentile ( say 98+), what are my chances of getting calls from the A+ colleges if they don’t change the selection criteria that they put up this year? I am apprehensive because i have heard of candidates with good percentiles getting rejected due to poor acads.
Does any of the colleges normalise the board percentages considering the fact that WB board used to make subjective type papers, making scoring difficult. Will my work xp be able to cover up the acad?
Please enlighten me in this regard ( as i do not want to toil for 1 yr only to find that all my efforts were in vain).
Thank you 🙂
Sumit, most of the IIMs normalise the board percentages.
Dear GP sir,
I am in a quandary and need your help. I want to attempt CAT13. But my acad is bothering me. My profile-
Class X- 79.8%
Class Xll- 71.2%
B tech(ee)-67.3% from NIT K
I completed b tech in 2011 and have been working in SAIL since aug 2011 . As far extracurricular activities are concerned, I am a decent bass player and an active blogger.
Now suppose I get a decent score in Cat ( say 98+), what are my chances of getting calls from the A+ colleges( assuming that they don’t change the criterias that they put up this year). I am apprehensive because I heard that this year candidates with good percentiles were looked over because of their average acads. Will 2.5yrs of xp in psu be able to balance my academic defficiency? I am from state board which used to make subjective type papers resulting in poor percentages.
Sumit, your apprehensions are partially true. Given the current criteria, it will be difficult for u to get a call from IIM (K and S). For the other IIMs u could get calls with ur profile but u need a very high CAT core. Do remember that for IIM (C and L) you wud require more than 99.5 percentile.

do i have a chance of getting a call from any of the new iim’s?
Shalini, MDI is unlikely but you have a chance from the others. New IIMs have declared their shortlist please check.
thanks sir for the info and sir i would also like to have your take on which iit’s should i go for
sir it’s SHALIN not SHALINI, a single “I” creates a lot of difference 🙂

Abhishek, With your CAT score unfortunately no decent college is available. Thru CMAT try the Mumbai Univ colleges when the notification is released.

Please reply asap.
Thanks
Gursagar, I have already responded to this query on fb, copy it here for your reference.
At 80.54%ile the options are limited and if you are takeing CMAT then some more colleges will be available, however if it is only CAT and you have to necessariy do an MBA this year then you can consider the following where you might have a chance:
Bimtech Noida
XIME Banglore
IFMR Chennai
Welingkar Mumbai
KJ Somaya(IB)
Tapmi (last date 15-1-13)
LIBA
NIRMA
NITIE(PGDISEM) -date of application is over
GIM – date of application over
SDM IMD
BIMM Pune
Kirloskar
If you can get a decent job then it might be better to start working and have another shot at MBA next year.
GP sir,
KJ Somaiya is accepting both CAT and CMAT for PGDM. While the cut off for PGDM last year was 90 percentile through CAT, this year with CMAT also being accepted for PGDM…what do you think is a good score of getting a call for KJ Somaiya PGDM through CMAT?
Priyanka, a score of 270+ should be good enough to get a call from KJ Som.

1. CAT 96.69%ile – new IIMs, SP Jain, IMI, IMT-G possible, MDI is unlikely.
2. SNAP 93.88%ile – SCMHRD is possible but will be able to confirm on 17th Jan.
3. NMAT 220 – Should get a call from NM Mumbai.

I want to know whether it will be prudent to apply in all of the above mentioned colleges and based on my profile will I be able to get shortlisted and finally convert based on last year’s cutoffs

hello sir,
oa-89.55%(qa/di- 82.95 , va/lr- 91.38)
any chances of getting call from imi delhi and iits and should i apply for them??
Uttara, you could apply to IMI. The cutoff last year for PGDM was 90 and HR was around 83. IITs would be difficult. Look at MICA, TAPMI, KJ Som, BIM and LIBA.
Dear Sir,
I have a CAT Score of Overall: 89.84, QA&DI : 88.06, Verbal& LR: 87.89, Xth-78, XIIth-82, BTech-71.2, work-ex:24 months in sales & Marketing.I had applied to SP Jain. Could you please tell me if there is a chance for SP Jain and what about IIT M/K/R? I have got a score of 216 for NMAT. Could you please compare between the IIT management courses and the MBA offered by NMIMS ?
Hari, your chances are very slim for S.P.Jain and the IITs. The lowest the IITs considered last year was 93. You should get a call from NM and there are fair chances of conversion. It is a very good program. However you could also look at KJ Som, TAPMI and MICA.
Hari, you could also look at BIM Trichi.

TAPMI = UBS Chandigarh > BIM > Christ = LIBA > IMFR = Alliance
my approximate cat percentage is 60% and profiling. x-57. xii-65 and graduation-56 .but categories is pwd .which college accepted reservation category.
Mohd Iqbal, all Govt institutes like the IIMs, IITs, Delhi University (FMS, MFC, MBE, MIB, MHORD) etc have a 3% reservation for students in the PWD category. Among the private institutes/Universities only Symbiosis has the said reservation.

I have appeared for snap and expecting 103.5 marks according to CL key. Applied to Scmhrd, siib and siom. Shud i apply to SIBM, Bangalore? today is last date for it. please reply soon.
thank u in advance 🙂
Akash, You shd get around 90 percentile. Difficult to get calls from IIMs. You would surely get IIFM Bhopal. You have a very good SNAP score. Must apply to SIBM Bangalore.
I have attempted 19 ques in section 1(16 should be correct) and 25 ques in section 2(20 should be correct). My slot 6 nov first slot.
how much % can i expect ?
You should expect around 98 percentile if your accuracy assumption holds true.
thank u sir for ur prompt reply.i have another query will i be able to get calls from the new IIMs or some old IIMs at the above % ?
My profile is

New IIMs should give you calls. You have a very good chance in IIM Shillong.
good morning sir.i just wanted to ask tha for outside maharashtra students ho much seats are there in JBIMS???? and what score is needed in CMAT to get a call from JBIMS????
sir my cat went pretty well but i got
10th : 79.8 (reason to worry)
12th : 88.5
grad :80.70
so will they ever call me …provided i got decent %ile in cat……
Mayank, you could definitely expect calls from some of the IIMs with this academic background. Most of the non IIM institutes are not very particular about past academic performance.
sir,
I attempted 13 in qa nd 16-18 in va reasoning in cat and i got 85%ile in mat nd also applied for cmat…but i did not apply in any b school till now…plz suggest me some good collages….i completed my bba in 2011 and i have no work experiance…
Sunit, try to get a good score in CMAT and you could also consider taking MAT in Feb. Do not apply anywhere now. Decide after all results are out. Do not worry about the last dates. They get extended.
I have attempted 14 questions in QA(all should be correct) and 27 questions in VA(25 should be correct).(14 th Oct 1st slot)
My profile: X 89.1;XII 86.4 B.E (Mech) 72.84

@GP sir i want to know about industrial safety management from NITIE. i am really interested to pursue a career in that field but is there any scope in that field..
Rachit, you could consider this course if you have a keen interest. It is a very specialised field with limited career options but given that NITIE is the best brand in this area, you could consider it.
Sir,
What is the approximate raw score that will be equivalent to 95 percentile in this year’s CAT?
Sir,
If i am expecting a raw score of 85 in this year’s cat, what could be my Percentile ? i have attempted 39 questions with 20 in QA-DI and 19 in VA-LR. Can i expect a call from any of the A category B-Schools ?
Rajat, you should be accepting in the range of 90-93 percentile. IMT, IMI, TAPMI, LBS, KJ Somaiya could be considered.
Sir can u please enlighten me with “What are the good colleges i can apply for with CMAT Feb Score? ” Can you clear the mystery behind whether or not XLRI accepts CMAT score ? ( CMAT AICTE site says it does but xlri site says it doesnt)
Saurabh, as of now the best colleges accepting CMAT scores are the ones which were under CET earlier like Jamnalal Bajaj, Sydenham, Chetana, NL Dalmia, PUMBA, Welingkar, etc. GIM is another option you could look at. XLRI does not accept CMAT scores but the issue is still not clear.
Sir,kindly give your opinion on IILM Graduate School Of Management,Greater Noida.
It is one of the better B-Schools under MAT. You could also consider EMPI, ITM, Alliance etc. under MAT.
sir,
I m 2011 passout with no work exp .
my profile is 10;-74,12-74,btech-62..This is my second attempt in cat …i hv scored 80 percentile in cat 2011….nw dis year scenerio is dat i dont do well enough in quant and di sec my slot is on 31 morning slot doing 15 ques only where as in va and lr its 24 ….i only want to go to A level college wat i do …I do nt fill any form….wat is ur take sir plz rep….in one mind i want to go for another shot but age of 24 and no job in hand nt permitting me…wat i do plz rep sir…..
Ashwani, you should be looking at B-Schools in the 80 to 90 percentile category. With no job in hand, it is better you join a B-School this year. Please do not wait for another chance.
Hi,
I have written CAT-12 with
QA & DI – 12 attempts(85% accuracy)
LR & VA – 28 attempts(90% accuracy).
10th 83%
diploma 80%
BE 59.1%
Work Ex 2.5 Years.
What can be my expected percentile and which categories should I apply ?
Thanks,
Purav
Puran, you should expect around 90-93 percentile. Given your work ex, you should be only looking at A category B-Schools. Great Lakes, IMT, IMI, the lower IITs, TAPMI could be the preferred choices. Do take a serious look at XAT and CMAT also.
SIr you have not replied to my question. please reply .
Attempted 21 in QA and approx 23 in VA with hope with 80 % accuracy.
Currently working in a MNC from last 12 month and current package is arround 3.5 lakh PA.
Sir what college should be choose ideally, i have filled form of LBS, NITIE(PGDISEM), Wellingkar.
And I am not giving XAT and SNAP.

What can be my expected percentile and which other category should I apply?
Thanks,

Varasha, hope you have started preparing for Personality Assessment Process, with your accuracy, attempt, work ex and school marks you should get calls from IIMs, FMS and other top institutes.
Sir

Sir,Please rank iiswbm, lbs, ifmr, dse .Please give their respective cutoffs and how is the placement scenario in each of them?
Neha, the order should be lbs (85%ile, avg sal: 7 lakhs), ifmr (75 %ile, avg sal: 5 lakhs) and then iiswbm (70%ile, avg sal: 4 lakhs). dse is a speacialised prog, if u r interested u can look at it, srong brand.
suggest me plz sir..regarding my post………
Jatin, Nikunj will be responding to your post separately with his views. I think, with you attempt and accuracy you are likely to 95+%ile and have a chance of calls from IIMs and other A+ business schools.
dear sir,
i have scored some 40 question in cat (21 in quant and 19 in va)with 90% accuracy .my slot was on 28th october(people say qa was a bit easy).how much % can i expect (mdi, nitie filled).
my previous academic records are
X-90%
XII-84.6%
B.TECH-66.6(from hbti kanpur)
work ex-from this july onwards-nestle india (5.1 lakh pa)
suggest me something as now i m focusing on xat too………
Jatin, u can look at FMS and S.P.Jain also though it might be a touch and go with the cutoffs. Should look at IITs after the CAT results. Concentrate on XAT and take a serious shot at XLRI. You should get around 95%ile if your accuracy is good.
sir
you havent mentioned FMS BHU ??
how is that college ??
i have passed B.Tech 2012 and currently without job and expecting around 90 %ile in CAT
Ankush, you can look at FMS BHU. In addition, do look at other B-Schools also in B+ category. Try to improve your performance in XAT/SNAP etc.
sir i am trying to improve my score but you didnt said how is FMS BHU in terms of everything ??
plz reply sir
Sir I Have attempted Sec-1 (21 Ques) and Sec-2 (23 Ques) in CAT on 30th Oct.12 with 75% accuracy.
What should be expected %ile ?
Which best colleges would i get in it. ?
I am in BE Final year (Electrical ).
10th 79.2% , 12th 65 % , BE 77%
What should be the ideal step ?
Thank you in advance.
Vishal, you shd expect around 90 percentile. Should look at B-Schools in B+ category and above. If you have a job in hand, you might be a little more selective. Look at other exams such as XAT/SNAP/CMAT etc.
sir i attempted 15 qu in sec 1 with 80% accu and 22 in sec 2 with 70-75%accu in eng (9 lr correct)
i give my cat on 31st oct
what %le can i expect??
and which clgs to apply
Amit, expect around 80 percentile. Can look at colleges in B category. You could wait for the CAT results as most of the B-Schools in this category have last dates in Jan/Feb except for IMT Nagpur, IISWBM, IFMR and IIFM.
Sir i took CAT on october 28th morning slot.., i attempted 13in section 1 and 26 in section 2.. my accuracy usually is around 80%. how much percentile shud i be xpecting ? is there any chance that i will clear the quant sectional cut off… which colleges shud i be looking for. m a fresher n have a job of ctc 3.5 in hand
Mohit, your score should be in the range of 80-85 percentile which means you could be targetting B+ category. With a job of 3.5L in hand, concentrate on other exams such as XAT, SNAP, CMAT to target better institutes. Going to B+ category institutes in the first attempt might not be a great idea.
sir,
I am b-tech from one of the prestigious engg. college, am having more than 12 months of work ex. in manufacturing company, CTC > 4.2 LPA
I hv taken CAT-12, and attempted QA- 13 (85% accuracy) and VA- 22 (80% accuracy), what are my chances in CAT-12, Do I have any in chances in old IIMs, FMS. I am having above average extra curricular activities. I belongs to SC category.
Vinny, you should be looking at a score of 75-80 percentile. You have a reasonable chance in the new IIMs, might be IIM(B) also since u have work ex. In case you are unable to make it to the IIMs this year, try again after working for one more year.
it means i can prepare for GD/PI process, what should be my approach for second round of selection process preparation ??
Your guidance will act as a huge contributor in my success story.
Thanking you in advance.
Sir I am IIT R Grad and have experience of 5Year in IT. Should I go only for PGP or Is it OK to go for PGDM too? Kindly suggest
I have applied for M-JPAT. Any one suggest me?
Ritwik, as per M-JPAT structure, once you apply with Rs 1900, you just need to appear for a common GD/PI, the scores of which are sent to all the participating institutes.
sir on nov 5 morning skot , quant was on the tougher side and i attempted 12 in quant ,22 in english..my overall accuracy was 80-85%.please guide me sir , which institutes should i apply for .my main. intrest is in mba ib .
Ankit, it is better you wait for the results and then apply. You could look at IB programmes of Fore and KJ Som. The last date of Fore is before CAT results, so you will have to take a call now. Cutoff was nearly 80 percentile last year. If you are taking SNAP, consider SIIB.
Sir,
I had applied for nirma university.
how is it…?
Dear Sir,
I have work ex of arnd 2.6 yrs in a MNC Manufacturing with a ctc of arnd 6 lak. But due to some issue I have resigned and now preparing for MBA. I have given CAT on Nov 4th. It didnt went good. Sec-1 only 13 attempts and sec-2 arnd 23 attempts. Even CMAT sep score is 199. Please suggest what should be my future steps.. I think I will fall in catagory b and c plz suggest
Dibya, you would not get B-Schools of your choice with this performance. Might look at SP Jain through XAT. If you are ok working abroad, do look at SP Jain (MGB). Take other tests such as XAT, SNAP and CMAT. Do not consider any B-School below A category. If need be, find a job and try again.
Sir
Could you please throw some light on SP Jain’s MGB Programme
Ankit, it is a good programme with good acceptance abroad. It might have limited opportunities in India. It would be worthwhile applying here if you are not able to get B-Schools of A category and above and are open to work abroad.
Sir,
I have a work exp of 1.5yrs (3.5 L.P.A). For CAT 2012 I attempted 30 questions in total with 80% accuracy( Sec1 – 10 and Sec 2 – 20). What colleges should I apply to and is there any chance of getting into those colleges on my CAT 2012 performance. Should I attempt XAT 2013 and CMAT in Feb? I probably wont have another chance to take any of these exams.
Your guidance would be very helpful. Thanks
Smriti, sorry you would not get B-Schools of your choice with this CAT performance. Go for other exams like XAT, SNAP, NMAT and CMAT.
Respected sir, going by analysis I am expecting around 98%ile+ with decent sectionals.
My profile is 10th: 86%, 12: 81%, BE: 62%. No WE and not so great ECs.
Should I apply to SP Jain? As I have heard that while giving score based calls, they consider profile too. Last year I have seen many candidates with 99+ %ile didnt got the call.
Do I stand any chance? Kindly reply. Thanks.
Chances are slim in SP Jain. Look at other options like FMS, NITIE and IIT(s).
Please tell me the last year cutoff of XIMB.
Neha, XIMB CAT cutoff was 94 percentile last year but the sectional cutoffs were very stringent (around 94+ in both). XIMB XAT cutoff was similar but the sectional cutoffs were less stringent.
Sir
My NMAT score is 200
QS – 71
LS – 65
LR – 64
In CAT i’ve attempted as following
Quant – Section 1 – 17 questions
LS – Section 2 – 21 questions
In quant am pretty confident that answers should be right, in english, though i believe that this year i’ve done well but still i am not too sure.
Plus I have been working in automotive sector in R&D division for about 16 months, where my job is core design and CTC – 4.5 lpa. Though now am changing and entering the field of marketing in a firm which is a world leader in its field.
Do you think B-schools would consider that as experience considering the kind of role i have, plus which B-schools should I be targetting
Ankit, go for a retake in NMAT. A score of 210+ would enhance your chances. With this performance in CAT, you could expect something in the range of 85-90 percentile. Look at IMT Ghaziabad, TAPMI, FORE, KJ Som, BIM etc. But if you feel that you could improve your CAT score next year, it might be a better idea to work for one more year.
Sir I want to understand why these colleges want us to register even before the results are out and in some cases even before we appear for the examination. Shouldn’t we do something about it?
Rachit, I do understand your thoughts. Let us not discuss something where we cannot do much. By the way many colleges do extend their last dates beyond results.
sir,
I am in my final yr of Btech. I was placed in infosys.I would like to apply for S.P.Jain.Regarding my extra curricular activities I have awards in district level chess and dance. But i have no work experience.Do i have scope to get selected with no work experience?
Sravya, you do stand a good chance. SP Jain does give a lot of importance to extra curricular activities. If you get a good percentile in CAT/XAT it will further improve your chances.

I am married and have a baby boy spouse is homemaker
Vikas, you should look at part time MBA programmes for working professionals. Given your age, you might find it difficult to get jobs in regular full time programs.
sir by cmat which good colleges should i focus ….i am from delhi……?
Shiv, as of now you could look at colleges which were under CET earlier like Jamnalal Bajaj, Sydenham, PUMBA, Chetana, Welingkar, KJ Somaiya, GIM. It is still not clear which other prominent B-Schools would accept CMAT scores. But you must write the CMAT in February. Some other B-Schools might join.
Hi Sir,
I am an enrolled C.L. student. I have completed my B.Tech in 2009 and currently working in software company (3 yrs of exp – 4.5 L P.A.). I took CAT for the first time this year and going by your raw score-percentile analysis, I would fall in 80-85%. Since I already completed almost 4 years after B.Tech and there are very less chances that I could take CAT again in next year, please tell me what colleges are worth to apply for my exp and qualification.
10th – 84%
12th – 94%
B.Tech (Computer science) – 85%
your guidance will be utmost helpful for my career planning. Thanks a lot Sir.
Saish, you could look at TAPMI and KJ Somayya. Do try to take other tests such as NMAT, CMAT, XAT so that you have more options. With this performance in CAT and the kind of work-ex you have you will not have too many choices in CAT.
cat 12 attempt 34(first attempt)
qadi-10
valr-24
accuracy-80%
work expirience-after graduation-3 months
total work expirience 9 years
ctc-2.5 lacs
also applied for xat13,gate 13
family income-4 lacs
pls guide me about collage and other tests
Vikas, consider other exams such as XAT, SNAP and CMAT. You should be looking at B-Schools of category B+ and above. Since this is your first attempt, consider gathering more work-ex and take CAT again if you are unable to crack the other tests.
attempt 32
qadi -16
valr-16
accuracy=75%
btech final mech.
family income – 3.5 lacs
first attempt cat12
i can go for another attempt also pls guide me
Kapil, at this attempt you are unable to get into any decent MBA institute, I would suggest that you pick up a job and go for a second attempt in 2013. DO take CMAT thru which you could get into a a few good colleges in Mumbai.
Sir ,
I have taken this year CAT and attempted 40 questions
QA- 16
VA-24
with 85 to 90 % accuracy..
How much percentile can i expect ? ?
I have 14 months work exp..
Narayanan, Your overall percentile could be around 95%ile but you have a chance in IIMs only if you are able to clear the QA sectional cutoff. More than 1 incorrect in QA will pull you down. However do apply to NITIE and with 14 months work exp you have a chance in SP Jain.
Aaditya, Symbiosis conducts its own entrance test “SNAP”.
Sir, what is the impact of normalization on your raw score & what should be a good attempt for 210+ w.r.t NMAT
Sourabh, to get a score of 210+, you should have around 90 genuine attempts.
sir i completed my graduation in 2011 and i am a qualified CS..i gave CAT this year but expected percentile is below average..can you please suggest whether i should apply to some b-school or retake the CAT next year?
Sweta, hope you have applied to SNAP, XAT and CMAT. Before deciding on CAT retake please go thru the other exmas for this year as many good colleges are available thru these tests.
ITS AN AMAZING POST SIR..THANQ SO MUCH..
Sir ,
I am a fresher in final year of graduation and I am pursuing B.com.I made an attempt of 34 (16 quants and 18 verbal) in cat this year with 95% accuracy…I thought of waiting till 9 jan and then apply for tapmi and liba…….I am scared tht I dont have any work ex……bt I feel tht I can clear GD…..Sir can u give some suggestion that which category should I apply…..? Does work ex matters alot in PI…?
You should be applying to B+ and B category. Could wait for the results if the last dates allow. FORE and LBS will not extend dates so apply now if you wish to. Work ex will not matter that much in these categories.
thank u sir for the suggestions….
Sir,
I had applied for nirma university.
how is it…?
Sir,
I forgot to mention in my last post.If i choose to wait for next year CAT ie if doj are further deferred ,will i be eligible for B+ and above?
Be positive. Even if the date of joining is deferred you should still look at the A category only.
Thank you sir.
Sir,I am a BTECH graduate in 2012.I was placed in august 2011 in a top MNC with CTC>3,but unfortunately the doj is deferred to next year beginning.Am i eligible for looking at institutes B+ and above?
