TISSNET 2016 – Last Minute Bites

As you gear up to take the TISSNET this Saturday, it will be useful for you to know the category wise cutoffs at which the candidates were shortlisted for the interview of M.A. (HRM) program in the last two editions of TISSNET.

The Jan 2015 paper, for the 2013-15 batch, had a total of 100 questions split into 30 questions each of Verbal Ability and Quantitative Ability and 40 questions of General Knowledge. The 40 GK questions were equally split between current affairs and static GK. Each question in this paper was worth 1 mark.

The Jan 2016 paper will have once again have 100 questions. It is expected that the breakup would be similar to what it was in Jan 2015.

The estimated minimum marks (cutoffs) at which the candidates were called for Personal Interview for the M.A. in HRM & LR 2013-2015 and 2014-16 programs were:

As you get ready to appear for TISSNET this Saturday, we have introduced the TISSNET Memory Based Papers and Mocks which will help you get closer to the actual TISSNET exam. These memory-based papers were recreated immediately after the test based on inputs from students and will hopefully put at rest all your apprehensions about this paper. In addition to that you should take the two Mocks that are based on these memory based papers

Steps to take the Memory Based TISSNET papers and Mocks:

  • Purchase the test pack from the e-center.
  • Visit http://www.careerlauncher.com/sis/
  • Login with your SIS username & password.
  • Once you have logged in, click on the Test Zone In the drop down menu click on Take a Mock and find the TISSNET Memory Based papers and Mocks.
  • Find out your score in Analysis section on submitting the test.

We will be recreating the TISS-NET January, 2016 paper. The memory-based recreated test will be available on CL website.

  1. sir my 10&12 is not good and my quant&english is absolutely bad so how can i crack the mba entrance

    • Dhiraj, while your mars in X and XII cannot be changed if you are willing to put in effort you can improve and Quant & English and hence get a good CAT score which will allow you to get admitted t a good MBA institute. Except for the top IIMs most of the other top B schools have a low/no weight for X and XII marks. Please connect with the closest CL center and they will guide you on the preparation preocess.

    I have completed my b.com with 78% from andhra university.I want to do MBA or ma in HR from TIss. I want to write TISSNET. Plz suggest me on how to clear Tissnet and how should I prepare for getting into Tiss..

    • Veena, you should do a regular practice of all the sections. Pay more attention on quantitative aptitude and verbal ability. Keep revising and practicing your study material. The difficulty level of TISS is not so high. Make a daily habit of reading newspaper. These tips can help you to clear TISSNET.

    • Zahara, it is a decent course from TISS Hyderabad. However, if you are inclined towards HR you should be targeting better institutes for HR like TISS Mumbai, XLRI, IIM K.

    • Srilekha, TISS Hyderabad is a brand and well established institute. However, HR from there will not add much to your profile. You should target better B schools.

    I’m shortlisted for TISS Hyderabad (M.A HRM). I have been working for 1.7 years. There is no information available about the placements of Hyderabad campus as this is their first batch. Although all the students have been placed for the summer placements they are unwilling to release package details for the next 3 years or so. Should I take up the course?

    • Sana, there are no good colleges at your percentile. You should try to better your score. Retake CAT and aim for top B schools.

    93% 12th
    all I wanted to know about ws my stream being a potential disadvantage?? will it b so? I’m gonna appear for CAT 17 and will b a fresher only.. no work experience.. this was a question rather out of curiosity coze I get to see engineers everywhere around in all those top notch B Schools. regards..

    • Shashank, your course is not a disadvantage in any case. MBA can be pursued by anyone. The chances of cracking top institutes depends on your performance in CAT and GDPI.

    • Great marks in board Shashank. It wont be a hindrance. Go ahead with your CAT prep. If you have a decent GPA in Grad as well sure shot call and convert with around 97 in CAT

    • Deependra, the candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA. Majorly your selection will be done on CAt score and GDPI. Only some institutes consider overall profile of candidate.

    I have recieved 96%ile in CMAT and 72%ile in CAT. Please suggest if its a good option to opt for KJ & other colleges through CMAT. Will the ROI be good through these colleges. I am currently working with 18months work ex.

    • Uma, you must not lose hope. Pick up a job and take CAT 2016. Keep your options open by taking Banking and SSC exams as well.

    • Katuri, if you are in a job then you must continue with it and should be looking for CAT 2016. Even if you are a fresher you must consider taking up a job and preparing again.

    My Xat score is 88.34 and my acads are X – 84.5 XII – 91.3 Btech(ECE) – 76.5….2.4 yrs of IT experience.
    I applied for IMT-G,TAPMI,GLIM chennai(PGPM),K J Somaiya. Are there any more good institutes I am missing in my score range.

    My friends suggested me GLIM Chennai since it justifies my IT experience and then prefer K J followed by Tapmi.

    My academic scores are as follows:
    10th – 91.14%
    12th – 80%
    Btech(2015 passout) – 80.67%

    I am working since Aug 2015. I have started my preparations for CAT 2016. I wanted to know the top institutes that I should be aiming with this academic score. And what should be my target percentile for old IIMs and FMS (considering I am eligible for these institutes)? Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks!!

    I have scored 35% in CAT and 41%(71 marks) in CMAT, i know these are the worst score i ever got, to be very honest i worked hard for cat but i dont know what happend to my results.

    • You must consider taking CAT again next year. Pick up a job if you don’t have one already and prepare along with it.

    I scored a mere 65 percentile in CAT. My NMAT score is 171 and my CMAT score is 191 (96.02 percentile). Is there any decent college to which I should apply, if any. I also have call letter from IBS Hyderabad for their selection process. Please guide me.

    My OA CAT percentile is 95.78 with sectionals as VARC–96.89,QA–89.68,DILR–92.Can I expect calls from the new IIMs and the newer IIMs??Also which all IITs should I apply to?How are IMI Delhi and IMT G in your opinion?

    • GG, the newest IIMs are possible at theis percentile. If your academic profile is good then SP Jain will happen. Apart from IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi..calls from all the other IITs are possible.
      You must apply to IMI and IMT G as back up. They are decent institutes. WOuld prefer IMI over IMT.

      • Since there were 3 sections this year, wont the cut offs dip a bit from 96.31 for the new IIMs??Is there any outside chance to get a call from them?…….Also Sir I have applied to XIMB….Will I be able to convert BM with an okayish GD/PI??

        • GG, slim chance of an IIM Ranchi HRM call. XIMB call will certainly happen at this percentile. The final convert depends on your stage-2 prep.

          • Should I join the newest IIMs if I get and convert the calls??

            Also what is your take on the PGDISEM program of NITIE??Should I go for it ??How are its prospects in the near future??

          • GG, the new IIMs are not a bad option. The NITIE program is a good program and you must consider going for it if you convert the call.

  28. When will jbims release mms notification for 2016-18 ?
    It is highly unlikely they will accept cat scores since their name is no longer in the non-IIM list accepting CAT scores 2015……should i start preparing for mh-cet??…a lot of discussion in quora and pagalguy says that they will stick to CAT scores..(I have a paltry 96.8 and no work ex) …really in the doldrums right now…any help would be appreciated…

    I have scored 198-NMAT (Retake-I score is awaited) and IIFT looks unlikely from the answer keys so far. I have 45 months of exp and with just less than a week for CAT, 1-month to go for XAT and TISSNET. Could you please guide me for some tips where I can improve my performance in coming exams. Also, is it possible if I can have a counselling from you?

    I am confused as to why Is it that I am unable to get a consistent performance in all entrances. Some go well and some are unexpectedly poor.

  31. Sir, I have cleared the cutoff for TISS HRM, SC category. My marks are 63. Is there a possibility that I’ll convert the call. Also what should I focus on for PIT/PI? What study material should I look for?

    • Arth, all candidates who get the interview call have a chance of making it to the final list. Please contact your CL centre for guidance on the interview preparation.

      • Suvidha, you must be abreast with the latest happening of the last few months. You must refer to the GK Compendium in the Elib of your SIS. Also the Daily GK update and the tests in your SIS will help you.

  33. Sir, I belong to OBC and have scored 74, has been shortlisted for TISS MA HRM&LR. Could you please suggest me the areas I have to prepare for the next step which is PIT which requires me to write an essay and will you please tell me the estimated overall cut-off out of 225 required to convert the TISS call.

  35. I’d like to point out that the cutoff for HRM/LR for the general category in 2013-15 was 86[I’d 89 myself and was shortlisted, therefore I’m sure about it.], and not what has been provided in the factoid.

  36. Sir did you check the “official” answer key for xat ??? In decision making some of the answers are just completely absurd. I request you to have a look at it. We dropped a mail at admission office in this regard citing the questions with explanations. Can you please tell what else can we do so that they may think of reconsidering ?

    • Nishant, will check the official answer key. You can only send a mail to XAT office and based on past, (unlike CAT and SNAP) they will act if there is an error.

    My CAT scores were less, I couldn’t clear other private examinations, was short of just a few.
