TISS-NET Jan, 2013 – The complete story

As you gear up to take the TISS-NET this Sunday, I am happy to share with you details of the category wise cutoffs at which the candidates were called for M.A. in HRM & LR 2013-15 & other fine details of the exam.

Clarification: I came across a few inadvertent mistakes in my post. Therefore, I have edited this blog.

The test conducted on 13th January 2013 gave students the choice of taking the test in paper or computer based format. A total of 17,700 candidates appeared for the exam, with 54.4% students appearing for the Common Entrance Online Test and the remaining appearing for the Common Entrance Offline Test. Of these, 727 candidates were shortlisted for the Personal Interview stage.

Minimum marks (cutoffs) at which the candidates were called for Personal Interview for the M.A. in HRM & LR 2013-15 program:

Category Cutoffs

Scheduled Castes (SC) 75
Scheduled Tribes (ST) 69
Other Backward Castes (OBC) 79
Person with Disability (PWD) 67

A total of 64 candidates were finally selected for M.A. in HRM & LR 2013-15 batch.

Time to focus on TISS-NET Dec 22, 2013

As you get ready to appear for TISS-NET this Sunday, we have made available the Jan 2013 TISS-NET in an online format. This memory-based paper was recreated immediately after the test based on inputs from students and will hopefully put at rest all your apprehensions about this paper.

The 40 GK questions were equally split between current affairs and static GK. 1. Hi GP,
i have total 6 years of experience in HR.i have done PG ( 1 year part time) in HR from welingkars institute of Management,Matunga. Now to enhance my profile i want to do PG from TISS.As i am working i cant leave my job for MSW programe of TISS which is most recommended programe in TISS.Can you please suggest is it good to go for weekend PG batches in TISS or executive programe in IIM Mumbai.

    Regards
    Rupali

    • Rupali, apologies for missing your message, you have possibly already decided and joined the institute. If not, then let me know your options and I’ll suggest my preference.

  2. sir, i want to know how is the placement for M.hospital admins in tiss and how to prepare for gk
what will be the cut off for M.hospital admins in general category

  3. Dear Sir,
What would be estimated cutoff for TISS 2015 (MA HR and LR) since its common paper with no negative marking for all the courses?

    • Malini, there is no specific source from where you can cover GK for TISS hence we will be coming out with a compendium for TISS/IRMA GK.

  4. Sir
I am quite interested in the dollowing 3 programmes-
Regulatory Governance, Development Studies & Social Entrepreneurship.
I have read about all of them on the TISS website, hence somewhat aware about the course. Now what I want to know exactly is about the future prospects of the above courses, and the ground reality about the courses as you may be knowing students of the same. Kindly reply soon as I have to apply to TISSNET accordingly.
    Regards

    • Manav, TISS offers a lot of programs. Most are pretty niche ones.
For example, MA in Social Entrepreneurship – the school does not give placements but help them in creating a social entrepreneurship venture.
MA in Globalization and Labour Program requires strong experience of trade union activism.
For students who are looking at an ‘MBA career’, best is to stick to MA-HRM&LR.
They can apply to any other program, if the niche segment is something that they are 100% sure they are okay building a career in.

      • Sir
I am sorry to say but this is a copy pasted reply as to my previous question, one just below this. Anyways, please see if you could guide me about the above mentioned 3 programmes in particular, or if you may direct me to any of your student studying in the same courses.
        Regards

  5. Sir
I want to know about the next most recognized course of TISS after HRM&LR . It would be nice if you write a blog for TISSNET-2015 asap.
Also, kindly write an article about SNAP-2014, current expected cut-offs and other anticipated trends about SNAP-2014.
    Regards

    • Manav, frankly the gap between HRM program of TISS and all other program is huge and for all practical purposes this is the only program that has industry recognition. All the rest are pretty niche ones.
You can apply to any other program, if the niche segment is something that they are 100% sure they are okay building a career in.
For SNAP please refer to the post SNAP Shot!!

  6. Hello sir,

    • Ankit, For TISS GK please brush static as well as current GK with special focus on Issues of Social Sensitivity & Contemporary issues. A copendium on TISS will doon be uploaded on SIS.
If you have prepared for CAT, VA & QA will not be a challenge.
Course choice depends on your interest area.Refer to GP’s response to Manav above ..

    • Orphy, I do not think there is any relaxation of fee for SC candidates, they however have scholaships etc for financially weak students.

  7. Resp. Sir,

I’m a 30 year Old B.A (Public Administration), 3 year graduate from Alagappa University through Distance mode after my +2. Am I eligible to apply for TISS-NET , M.A. ?
    Kindly Replay.

  8. HELLO SIR,
ACCORDING TO THE CL EXAM CORNER, OUT OF THE QUESTIONS GIVEN THERE 65 OF THEM WERE IN MY PAPER. MY SCORE FOR THOSE 65 IS 55 APPROX. SHOULD I EXPECT A CALL (HRLM)??

    • Aishwarya, assuming a similar strike rate in rest of the questions, your score out of 100 should be over 80 and hence you have a good chance of a call from HRM.

  9. Sir, I am expecting to have a score above 67 in TISSNET for HRM & LR and DEVELOPMENT STUDIES. But considering last year’s cut off TISS is unlikely. However, I am expecting a percentile not below 98 in CAT. With this percentile should I look forward to get GD/PI calls from both FORE and BIMTECH? Is there any possibility of getting shortlisted by b-schools above the standard of FORE and BIMTECH e.g., IIT-MADRAS, MDI, K J SOMAIYA and JBIMS? In case of FORE and BIMTECH which one would be good in terms of placement and infrastructure?

    • Debu, a 98%ile in CAT can get you calls from almost all institutes including a few IIMs. BIMTECH and FORE have a cutoff in the 90%ile range and will not be a problem.

  10. Hi. I m expecting around 80 this year. I applied for 1. climate change and sustainability studies (Mumbai) 2.Environment , ecology and sustainable development (Guwahati ) and 3. Development studies ( Mumbai). Can you plz send me last year’s cutoffs and cutoffs expected for this year.

    • Javed, I was travelling and could not respond earlier. Apologise for the delay.
I am not aware of the cutoffs for these programs but the highest cutoff is usually for HRM which is expected to be around 75 this year. With an expected score of 80 marks you should get calls from all the programs that you have applied to.

        • Javed, you can visit admissions.tiss.edu and check the PIT/PI process for your course whether it is GD or Essay test. For interviews, you can consider joining our PDP classes at the earliest.

  11. Sir,
I’m an applicant in PWD category. Expecting a score of 45-55. Is there a chance I’ll get the call for PI in women’s studies?

    • Sanchita, apologise for missing out on your query.
Rahul Krishna from CL Acads team has emailed his response to this query and I am repeating it for your reference.

The five RC questions were of 2 marks each. The other English questions were of 1 mark each.

  12. Sir,
The TISS memory based paper posted on exam corner contains only 15 of the 30 questions in the verbal ablity section of my question paper…will the other questions be added to it soon?? Morover the passage in my set was different from the one given here..Also,which were the 2 marker questions in english? the ones from the passage???
    Eagerly Awaiting your reply!
    Thank you

  13. Sir,
I attempted the GK section of “Memory based TISS paper” @ exam section…. That was quite easy…When I showed the questions to my friends who had appeared for TISS yesterday; they told none of the questions came. Does question paper vary from state to state?

  14. Sir I am expecting these scores in various sections.
GA or I say history paper: 15net correct forget 4-5 question answers that I were marked
Consider them wrong. Va: rc all correct expecting around 23-26 range qa and lr : sure shot 34-35 oa 72-75 what are my chances belongs to nc-obc

  15. GP Sir, I want to ask that after I gave TISSNET today I realized that there were only 95 questions in my set! Is it so that this time TISS had 95 questions only?
    Thank You!

    • Swati, I have been travelling and hence the delay. Apologise for the same.
The paper had only 95 questions, so it is not a problem. Hope you have seen the analysis of the paper and the memory based questions in the Exam Corner.

  16. Hi GP sir ,

This is to inform you that the cutoff for the General category was from 84-86 marks for HRM course . I can say this confidently as I scored 77 last year while my friend scored 81 in TISSNET and neither of us got the calls from TISS.

    Thanks and regards,
    Rahul

    • Rahul, I have been travelling and hence the delay. Apologise for the same.
The data of successful students last year did indicate a cutoff of 84 and that is what I had initially put in this post. However a day later TISS released the cutoff data for various categories and this has been updated in the post. If what you are saying is correct then obviously TISS has released incorrect information.

  17. Is the Mock paper no longer available? I am not able to find it on the career launcher website. Please advice as I really wanted to have an idea before the exam on sunday.

    • Gyanika, apologise for the delay as I was travelling.
Hope you were able to attempt the paper and that you did well in TISS-NET.

  18. Hi Sir,

    1. Whenever I login via fb to the exam corner , the exam corner links me to a profile which is not mine. All details right from profile to exam slot are erroneous. I tried from all browsers, but the error persists and I see scores and marks of sum other candidate. This is occuring since the past week. Please rectify this,as such an error is surprising from CL which has possibly the best IT backend.

    2. Also sir, could you please tell TISS cutoffs last year for reservation students?

    Thank you

    • Bharat, I have been travelling and hence the delay. Apologise for the same.
      1. Hope this is no longer a problem. In case this happens again, please send a mail to support@careerlauncher.com I have in any case forwarded your message.
      2. The cutoffs are available in this post itself. They were added later on.

  19. Sir, I would like to know that as per your say TISSNET this year will have 30 Q in GA and 40 each in QA and VA. so that accounts to a total of 110 Q. So does that mean that we have 100 mins to answer 110 questions?
    Please reply.
    Thank You!

  20. Sir, I am a CL student. It would be really great if we could have a TISS Mock paper in the new format, i.e. 40 QA, 40 VA and 30 GK. It would help in giving a fair idea of where we stand. Thanks!

    • Gp Sir,

Please enlighten about the probable cutoff of this year’s TissNet, provided the fact that the Director of Tiss, Mumbai emphasized that the exam will be tougher in comparison to last year.

      Cl Mocks gave me 76(Mock 1) ,70(Mock 2) and 73(Memory Based).

      QA is 100% correct,
      VA is 85% correct,
      GK is 40 -50%(Big Worry)

I did complete all the Gyan Dhara for 2012-13 and static form the internet.
I am still a bit perplexed as to what else should i do in the last 48 hours.

      Thanks in advance 🙂

  21. Sir, where it is given that there are only 30 questions in G.K and 40 questions each in Quant & Verbal. i.e. change in the exam format from Jan 2013.

    • Hi Rupesh,
I have attended their Orientation Programme in Hyderabad.

      It is in fact,
      QA-35,
      VA-35,
      GK-30
Thus making a total of 100 questions.

        • They emphasized on both static as well as current GK.
Mostly on social issues as you may have already heard from other sources.
In static, they weren’t very particular about History though.
          Hope that helps 🙂

          • TISS NET QA/VA does not need any extra prep beyond what you are doing for CAT. However The GA section needs some work
The topics you could focus on are
In the past two years, this section has had general knowledge questions about:
            Social Sensitivity
            Knowledge on Contemporary Issues
            United Nations Organization
            Indian rivers
            History of India
            Important Indian monuments
Basic facts and latest numbers about the Indian economy
Recent government initiatives like MNREGA, Mid-day meal scheme etc.
Indians who have won prominent international awards
            Asian/ Olympic Games facts
