IFMR considers CAT 2014 / XAT 2015 scores / CMAT (September 2014)/ GMAT & GRE Scores (taken in the last five years).
IFMR provided CL with complete placement details of 119 students passing out from IFMR in 2015 for audit. The data passed CL audit standards and hence IFMR is now a member of the league. With an exact 80% students getting placed with CTC’s of 6 lacs per annum and more, IFMR is a good option for students wanting to pursue further studies this year. The highest salary for the 2015 is a CTC of Rs. 11 lacs per annum. The majority employers at IFMR are from the banking & finance or the IT / ITES domain with students getting placed in analyst, team leader and management trainee roles.
The cut off for IFMR Chennai is 80%ile in CAT, however students just short of the cut off can apply as the institute also gives profile based calls based on past academic record and work experience.
Shortlisted students are invited for the second stage selection process held Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Bhopal, Chennai, Coimbatore, Delhi, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Patna and Ranchi (subject to minimum number of applications), on dates to be notified later.

IFMR Chennai V/S Bits Pilani . Which is better Sir. I have less interest in finance. I want IT and operations. Thanks
Anil, since you are inclined towards IT and operations, BIT Pilani should be considered.
Sir, which college is better between these two…SDMIMD Mysore or IFMR Chennai?
Srinivas, IFMR should be considered by you between the two.
I have done B.Tech in computer science Engg and have two year work experience in IT MNC I have converted MBA ITBM from SCIT Pune and PGDM from IFMR Chinnai Please guide me where I should join for better future ?
Anil, IFMR is the better B-school between the two.
IFMR or Welingkar , which is the best ?
Rajitha, IFMR should be the preferred option.
cat %-67 10th-87 12th-91 btech-63 chances for ifmr ?
Tin, there’s a slim chance of getting a call from IFMR.
sir,
i had a score of 77.92 percentile in cat and 98 percentile in cmat. i got a call from kj somaiya, great lakes and xime. except graduations (52.8) i have good marks in all other main exams. Do i have a chance to convert those calls with such low graduation marks? Which other colleges among the following, i should apply: bimtech noida, itm hyderabad and nagpur, sdmimd mysore, ifmr chennai? Can you suggest any other colleges?
Neha, as far as you meet the eligibility criteria and you have logical explanation for low scores, it plays less role in converting the calls.
And you can refer to article Jayein toh Jayein kahan take final decision.
Hi. My cmat score is 97.77 percentile and i have applied for welingkar mumbai, xime and isb&m nande campus. Is it true that welingkar does not allow one to sit for a 2nd company if one gets a job and please review isb&m for me. Thanks a lot 🙂
Priyanka, all these colleges are reputed institutes. You can the post Jayein toh jayein kahaan 2016: Which Institute? for the final decision.
Hello Sir, Good day.
I am a 2014 passed out and have 18 months of work experience in HCL as a software engineer n commercial banking domain.
I have given both cat and XAT but didnt get good score.
My XAT scoe is 70.48
Work Ex – 18 months on feb 2016
X- 81.8
XII – 67.5
UG- 7.0 on a scale of 10 I have decide to do an mba for sure . But dont know what are the colleges i should apply. Please suggest me some institute as this is the right time to apply. Am taking MAT in feb 2016.
My current package is 3 LPA. Kindly help me out on this .
Heartfelt thanks in advance
Varun, there is no decent institute which accept 70.48 percentile. There will be no major hike in the package. So you should reappear for these exams.
respected sir,
sir my profile is x-80%, xii-79 %,btech-84%(civil engg),i am 2014 pass out with no job in hand,i have only ifmr convert as a option.
Should i go for it.The only job i can get is process associate in genpact 10k salary .What should i do..Also which mba specialization is more preferred in current market
according to growth in salary marketing, finance,it,operations, business analytics.
A.Vyas, IFMR is a decent option and you can consider joining it. Growth in salary is there in all functions if you are good in your work. So look at specializing in the area that you enjoy.
Hi Sir,
Is IFMR good for marketing ? Usually there is a conception that it is worth joining IFMR only for Finance. Is this notion true? Or is the quality of placements and faculties for marketing equal to that of finance.
Srinath, as per its placement reports IFMR has most of its placements in Finance and hence I would not recommend IFMR for specialisation in finance.
Is it worth to join symbi thru management quota considering its good brand value and excellent placements which I believe would help in the long term? The total cost would be 45-50 lacs including double fees. The best option right now for me is IFMR. Time has ranked it better but you have ranked it in last cluster. So, I am in a dilemma. Please advice sir, what to do?
Nikhil, I do not think that Symibi through management quota makes sense as you can do MBA from good institutes outside India at the same cost. IFMR is a decentt option and can be considered, please check the IFMR placement report and then decide.
I am not inclined towards doing MBA from abroad. Have you heard of people giving this amount in Symbi or is it just me? I have already taken far more time than usual to complete my B.Tech and have no work-ex. So, I don’t think I will get any comparable college ever through merit. Would you still advice me against going for Symbi? If yes then, should I go for IFMR although I haven’t decided on any specialisation and it’s known primarily for Finance?
Nikhil, i cannot reconcile to an MBA from Symbi at 45-50 lakh. Even if going abroad is not an option you can consider ISB Hyderabad. Pick up a job and then go for MBA. Your academic record can be taken care of with a good score in CAT/XAT/SNAP/GMAT. IFMR has a niche in the area of finance and if this is not your preferred area then you should not be joining it.
Sir. Bimtech vs ifmr??
Ujjwal, BIMTECH PGDM if you are from North and IFMR if you are from South. Also IFMR has created a niche for itself in finance and if this happens to be your choice of specialisation then IFMR should be preferred.
Thanku for ur humble reply sir. I m.from delhi nd would choose ifmr if the difference in packages between the two colleges is marginable. kindly guide me on the same.
Gp sir i would highly appreciate if u can break down the packages offered at ifmr?
How many % of students receive what amount of packages?
Thanks in advance sir.
Ujjwal, please check the IFMR placement report, BIMTECH figures would be about 10% lower than the that of IFMR.
Sir,
How is VIT Business School , Vellore For MBA
Jobin, it is avoidable.
Hi GP Sir,
I have 3.5 years of Experience in IT and B.Tech in IT.
Between IFMR and SITM which one is better among the two. Considering i want to head back to IT.
Thanks!!
Nitish, SITM would be a better option between these two. IFMR has a niche in finance while SITM tends to have placements primarily in IT, Telecom and consultancies.
3.5 years of Work Ex wouldn’t be a problem in SITM right ?
Nitish, it is onn the higher side but with Pune being a IT hub and proximity to Mumbai should allow you to get good lateral placements.
Sir i gave interview for ifmr on 14th march kolkata and received an email thereafter, stating that they were pleased with my performance and would be reverting back after the selection process is over…. so sir have i made it cz ifmr is my target for now
Rohit, we can be sure only after you have the offer letter.
sir please tell me which one to consider amomg ifmr chennai and sdmimd mysore..considering the overall scenario
Riya, IFMR and SDMIMD are at he same level. IFM should be preferred if you are keen on finance.
Sdmimd or Ifmr Chennai
even though I’m interested in marketing but Ifmr claims to have avg package of 7.5 lakhs and hence my inclination because of placements .
only 7 percent ppl go for marketing in Ifmr according to their site ,
would marketing students at Ifmr get similar avg package as the others ?
Would it be beneficial to pick marketing at Ifmr as most students their go for it or finance? Would I have an edge because of lesser competition for my profile?
Should I stick with sdmimd?
Vaishakh, this is a difficult one ans the two institutes are at par and you can go for either of them. IFMR has the advantage of location (Chennai over Mysore) so it is possible that you will get some good opportunities in Sales/Marketing.
Sir can we expect simillar placement opportunities from the new campus in sri city? (As these figures are from the chennai campus)
Salav, yes you can expect similar placements at the new campus also.
sir u mention ibs in not so ordinary b school so sir shall i consider ibs mumbai over XIME ,ITM NAVI MUMBAI as again placement r similar n fees is less to the only diff is batch size but again XIME will cost 2 lakhs more than IBS MUMBAI ? sir plz help? is my decision right ?
PAlash, while XIME Blr and ITM Navi Mumbai can be preferred, out of these three you should join the one that will cost you the least – fee + hostel + food.
Hello sir, i need your help regarding admission 2015-2017.
cat 2014 – 80.08%ile
graduation 81.39%
XII 80.40 %
X 89%
only part time work experience as a freelencer.
Please suggest me good colleges in which i can apply.
please reply asap.
Juhi, application window has closed for most of the good institutes, where all have you applied?
Hello sir,
I have a cat percntle of 80.27 nd a work ex of 1.5yrs as a lecturer in a diploma colg. I have done my b.tech in electrical engineering nd my cgpa is 8.94
XII- 84%
X- 77%
I have converted New delhi Institute of management and IMI-bhubaneswar. I have applied to ibs-hyd nd have also been shortlisted for Tapmi. I know it’s difficult to convert tapmi so which colg out of the rest three would you suggest. And can u think of any othr colg as well?
Kindly suggest sir. Thank you
Shekhar, ideally you should avoid these three and target only TAPMI and if you are unsuccessful then go for a retake but if you have to choose one then IBS Hyd and IMI Bbsr can be considered.
Hi Sir,
I am highly disappointed with my cat results. I got much less then what i was getting in my mocks. But any how I have to go for MBA this year. I am a 2012 Pass out B.TECH graduate having 17 months of exp. in Marketing & Sales. I am really confused about selecting a good college for me in terms of quality education, overall exposure, ROI and above all placements.
CAT-50.24 %ile
MAT-88%ile (667)
XAT-54%ile
Will be giving Feb CMAT
Please let me know some of the good colleges in order of preference that I should consider for taking admission, keeping in mind my situation. Also I have filled applications of Wellingkar, ITM, XIME only.
Ashish, a consistent (low) score across all papers indicates that you will have to work hard to get a good score in CMAT. Since you have to do an MBA this year itself suggest that in addition to CMAT you should take Maharashtra CET for the MMS program of Mumbai University colleges. The registration will open on 18th Feb and you can register at the DTE Website.
Yes Sir I will be going for Mh-CET as well. But still at this point of time which colleges in your opinion should I consider and fill their application, keeping a back up as well. Please name few colleges in order of priority that I should look for.
Ashish, no decent colleges are possible at a score of 50-55%ile in CAT/XAT
Hi Sir,
I am 2012 passout . I am working and have already got 2 year work ex in december. I have got 92%ile this year. This was my first attempt of CAT. I am very much interested in pursuing MBA from a very good college. I gave my IMT -G interview. It went well. If I get selected, then shall I go for it or would it be be a good decision to drop this time and give CAT second time?
Please suggest.
Thanks
Neha, if you are confident of a score of a 97%ile in CAT’15 then go for a retake else join IMT G this year itself.
Hi sir,
I am a b tech graduate with sales experience of 9 months.
I got 87 percentile in cat.
I am interested in domain focussed mba.
Please tell me is upes a good college to pursue mba.
My area of interest is power or energy trading.
Please help me to make a decision.
I am 2013 passout is it fine to try cat 1 more time.
Paras, go for a general MBA since domain focussed MBAs have limited placement opportunities in India. At 87%ile you can get calls from a few good MBA institutes like KJ Somaiyya & GIM. It is okay to go for a retake as a minor improvement in score to around 92-93%ile will get you into next level B schools like IMI and IMT G.
sir SDMIMD MYSORE , XIME (BANGLORE ) , AIMS BANGLORE , IBS HYDERABAD …. SIR CAN U PLZ ARRANGE THESE IN TERM OF PREFERENCE ?
Palash, SDMIMD would be the best option, the other two would be similar.
Sir considering all factors I.e placement , futute orientation what do u think about XIME ? and sir u mention AIMS in not so ordinary B school so it should not be prefered over SDIMD .?
Palash, XIME and AIMS are also decent but within the three mentioned by you my preference will is SDMIMD. You should at present look at converting all calls and leave the decision of “which institute” to after converting the calls.
Thanks a lot sir 🙂
Hello Sir,
I’m in my final semester of MA English.
My CAT score is 84.82%ile.
I am interested in marketing. I want a career change. Marketing is my field of interest.
I have applied for XIMB PGDM, GIM, FORE-IB, NIRMA and BIMTECH.
I have received a call from FORE and BIMTECH, till now.
SIR,
1. please suggest any more colleges that I might get through. I have not applied for Tapmi due to high fees.
2. Which college should I join if I get a choice between BIMTECH core/ Nirma/ fore-ib.
3. Even if I apply for loan via banks which have ups with the institute, will I get a 10lakh loan without collateral? Cosigner isn’t the problem, collateral is.
Thank you.
Pihi
Sir, my priority is roi, quality of placement- especially fmcg and hostel.
Thank you.
Pihu
Pihu, the application window for almost all colleges has closed and it may not be possible to apply to any other colleges.
Among the colleges that you have mentioned my order of preference is Fore IB, followed by Nirma University and finally BIMTECH.
Education loan should be possible without collateral.
hello sir.. 🙂
before I ask my question.. I would like to thank you verrryy verrryyy much for your selfless helps sir..
your strategy..the SQC.. CL mock videos.. and everything were the FRAMEWORK of MBA preps..
and it is all because of these that i have scored 90%ile in XAT (1st attempt) and have got calls from XIMB, IMT.. and expecting others too 🙂
Sir.. no doubt CL is the best for round 1 MBA preps.. but for the 2nd round I have to wander here and there for materials.. I havent got any IIM calls though.. but I couldnt find sufficient prep materials in my SIS for tier 1 b-schools even..
sir.. could you please suggest me some readings or sources.. for acquiring the same..
thanks a ton for your help sir 🙂
Shubham, PDP classes would have ensure that yo would be well prepared. In SIS material is regularly updated for the personality assessment process including knowledge sessions.
