The Third Not So Ordinary B-School – AIMS, Bangalore

Dear All,

Acharya Institute of Management and Sciences (AIMS) is a business school in Bangalore offering PGDM (60seats) & MBA (240seats) programmes. Both the programs are of 2 years duration. MBA with dual specialization is affiliated to Bangalore University. The PGDM is offered by AIMA & approved by AICTE.

The all-inclusive fee structure for the 2 year MBA program is Rs. 8,60,000 (this includes tuition fee & i-pad). Similarly the 2 year all inclusive PGDM fee is Rs. 5,50,000  (this includes tuition fee & i-pad). For both programmes, Hostel is optional at Rs 66,000/annum which includes boarding and lodging.

Placements
AIMS provided CL with placement data of 76 students (MBA & PGDM students passing out in 2013). This data met the CL audit standards. MBA placements score higher than PGDM placements on all parameters namely CTC, profile and companies. I am listing down here the key offtakes from the placement data:

MBA

  • 40% of students were offered CTC’s in the range of 4 to 6.6 Lacs.
  • Some of the key MBA recruiters were Federal Bank, Colgate Palmolive, ICICI Bank, Citi Bank, Reitzel Group, Cryobanks International, Bose India, Google, Oracle , Indus Ind Bank, Dish TV, Johnson & Johnson etc.

PGDM

  • 46% of students were placed with CTC’s in the range of 3 to 5 lacs.
  •  The placement profiles of PGDM students include Asst Manager, Junior Officer, Management Trainee, Acquisition Manager, Content Developer, Officer etc

Selection Process
AIMS accepts CAT 2013 / XAT 2014 / CMAT /MAT /ATMA/ GMAT scores for admissions to its MBA & PGDM programs. The college looks at profile based applications measuring them on past academic record and work experience. Shortlisted students are invited for the second stage of selection process comprising of the following 4 rounds:

  • Statement of Purpose
  • Group Discussion
  • Extempore
  • Personal interview

Application deadline is 15th March 2014. For more information you can visit: http://www.theaims.ac.in/. To hear from the institute please leave your contact details here.

    • Anand Kishore, it should be Welingkar. However, aim for better Bschool. You should retakae CAT and the other MBA exams.

  1. Hi GP sir!

I am a fresher and I have to select between

    BIMTECH Gr.Noida PGDM (Retail Mgmt.)

    And

    XIME B’lore PGDM (Core)

(Note: I have to pursue MBA this year itself.)

Could you please advice as to which one is a better option for me amongst the two.
    Thank you.

    • Pritam, it should be IBS Hyderabad. However, these institutes will not give much boost to your profile. Given your work ex, it is advised to retake CAT and the other MBA exams. Also prepare for GMAT and try to target ISB Hyd and top B-schools.

    • Narendra, you should consider IMT Nagpur. However, you should try to better your score. So, it is advisable to retake CAT and the other MBA exams. You should aim for better B-schools.

  2. hello sir,
sir is BIMM pune is good college for MBA.??
as it’s claims to be the best college in terms of ROI.. and avg salary of 6.5 lpa…

    • Sushant, BIMM Pune will not add much value to your career. You should try to target better B-schools.

    • Shubham, ideally it is a decent option but you must consider taking up CAT again this year. IMT-H will not give a major boost to your career.

  3. Sir have been shortlisted for imt Hyderabad Finance. Considering its 12lakh fees, should i consider it?expecting xiss marketing too.

  4. Sir,
I got selected in IMT Nagpur and BIMM Pune.
    BIMM fee- 9 lacs.
    IMT- N fee – 12 lacs
And what I heard so far about BIMM is, It is very strict and has school type environment.
So.. which college is better in terms of learning experience and placements ?
Which one should I join ?

    • Also.. tell Is city gonna matter ?
I mean, Will I be having advantage of choosing BIMM over IMT-N just because BIMM is in Pune and IMT is in Nagpur.

      • Abhishek, I am inclined towards IMT Nagpur as it is better known and will provide better placement opportunities. Pune is definitely a better location but BIMM is below IMT Nagpur by a margin.

  5. sir i have 83 percentile in mat and score is 641 . i am 2014 passed out student and i dont want to waste my year. which college should i choose among IPE hyd ,IFIM bangalore,BIMM pune . i am very confused plz suggest me a good option

  6. Hi, i have mote than 3 years of work experience in IT my academics are average and i took CAT 2014 without any prepration or will on joining any b school and could score only 63.88 %ile. I had no intention to join any college but somehow i managed and got selected in IBS Mumbai and Bimtech greater noida.

Which b-school i should choose now i want a management degree to enhance my career as i am already senior engineer in a huge MNC and it requires a management degree to progress in this Corporate IT world.

    • Bhupinder, suggest that you start preparing and go for a retake of CAT/XAT. This time do take GMAT also to target ISB Hyderabad.
The institutes that you have admission offers from are not recommended for someone with a 3 year experience in a good company.

  7. XIME Bangalore im in waitlist . got selected in IBS pune. What is your suggestion sir. Should i apply any other vollege. My MAT score is 650

    • Naveen, the other colleges at your score will be below these two. XIME Bangalore followed by IBS Pune is my suggestion.

  8. I have 3.5 years of Experience in IT. Which one is better
SITM or IFMR. I am really confused between the two.
Since the intake of IFMR has been increased to 180 and where as SITM is 120.
Fees of IFMR – 14 lakhs
Fees of SITM – 11 lakhs

    • Nitish, SITM is my preference as it will allow you to leverage your work experience. Most of the placements are in IT, Telecom and consultancies. In terms of ranking also IFMR would be lower than SITM.

  9. I converted for PGDM (Finance) in IFIM B- School, Bangalore and MBA in Telecom Management (Finance and Systems) in SITM, Pune. I am confused. Placement is important to me, so is the college life. I heard the course of SITM is very hectic and the life there is not enjoyable. I want to have a balanced life. Please help me to choose between it.

    • Nithin , I sonn’t think that you can compare the two institutes. SITM is way ahead of IFIM and hence my suggestion is to consider joining SITM.

  10. Nishant, NM Bangalore is better but I am not sute if you have a chance of making it to NM Bangalore.
For my order of preference please refer to the post Jayein toh jayein kahaan 2015: Which Institute?
A score of over 95%ile can get you GL and GIM however do check if the application window is open. SIMSREE is through DTE and OMS candidates need over 99.5%ile to get a call.

  11. hello sir

I have completed my B.TECH in IT and i have call from two college shanti business school ahmdabad and aims banglore.
plz tell me which college i choose

  12. Hi,
How good is soil gurgaon BLP programme in terms of placements, location, roi and the overall curriculum. Can it be compared to conventional b-schools like lbsim, gim, tapmi???

  13. Hi Sir,

I have a work ex of 4 years now with a salary package of 5Lpa. Should i consider XIME, Kochi for MBA as a good option?

  14. Hi Gp,

It would be great if you throw some light on SOIL, Gurgaon…. Hwz the course , acceptance in the industry and placements….!!

    Thanks in advance ..!!

    • Amritesh, SOIL Gurgaon is a decent institute but has not really picked up. It can at best be considered as a back up.

      • Dear sir,
I have total work experience of 30 months. I have received call letter from SOIL, Gurgaon. Should I go a head with it or not. What about placement and certificate they provide. Please help me out.

  15. I am drawing a current salary of 6 lakhs and have 2.5 years of experience. I have been admitted to SIBM – Hyd. Should I take it up ? Are you aware if it is UGC recongized?

  16. Sir,
    I am a 2014 BE graduate.
    My academic details are
    X: 79.4%
    XII: 67.8%
    BE: 60.34%
Sept MAT score: 636.5 (80 percentile)
It was not my best performance. Is it a bad score?
Can u suggest me good B schools for this score with the order of preference?
Also, does MAT have a sectional cut off?

    thanks in advance,
    Divya

    • Divya, 80%ile in MAT is an average performance and you will need to go up significantly if you want a ghood B school. Unfortunately there are hardly any good B schools through MAT and you will need to look at CAT, XAT, NMAT, SNAP, IIFT and CET for the same.

  17. Sir i have converted SIOM nashik.i am a little confused whether i should go for it or not bcz its ranking among b schools is 68 and average ctc for fresher is 6.2. and i dont have any other converts.please guide me…

    • Dhruv, SIOM is a good institute for Operations specialisation so if you are comfortable with Operations then you should go ahead and join SIOM. Go for a retake only if you are reasonably sure of improving your CAT/XAT/SNAP score to make it to the next level of institutes. In case of a retake do pick up a job and prepare simultaneously.

  18. Hello GP Sir,
please can U give me advice!! which B-school should I opt TSM (Thiagarajar School of Management), Madurai or AIMS Bangalore… Please Help me……….. I am in a great confusion

    • Rachel, I do not have sufficient information of TSM to comment. Suggest you visit both the colleges, meet the current students, check out the placement scenario and then decide.

      • Thank You GP Sir,,
What is your view on choosing AIMS, Bangalore Sir is it a good decision ? Please reply to my query Sir

        • Rachel, the details of AIMS are given in this post. Suggest that you also visit the institute, interact with the current students and then decide.

    • Akash, IMT Nagpur is ranked higher but since both the institutes are likely to provide similar placements (average salary of around Rs 6-6.5 Lakh pa) it will be prudent to join the one that has a lower fee.

  19. Gp sir…..these are my final convert list…..bimtech-rm(noida),xime-kochi,amity noida,.ibs(mumbai)…some say bimtech is bit overhyped, but i personally visited the campus and got a positive feed back from students..not sure about xime kochi because of location factor..kindly help me out to make a well informed decision as i have to decide b4 28th April…

  20. Hello Sir,
I have converted IMT-Nagpur-Marketing, XISS-Marketing, IBS Hyderabad and IMT-Hyderabad-Marketing. I have 11 months of work exp..I want to pursue MBA this year itself…I need your valuable suggestions regarding which institute should I prefer to join..??..Thank you Sir in advance..

  21. GP,
Which is better option SIIB International Business or NMIMS Mumbai HR MBA??

and If I say I have interest in Marketing as compared to HR!!

    • Arpit, if you are interested in marketing then NM HR is not an option. NM HR should be considered only if you are keen to specialise in this area.

  22. sir there is no wl no. in LIBA..so how can one know whether he will convert the call or not..?
also in kj somaiya i have an average interview but good written and extempore round..i have 94.25 percentile in cat ..due u think i can convert simsr..?

  23. Sir
Could you please tell me what to prefer among IIFT Delhi and MDI Gurgaon, based on various factors like ROI, placements, academics etc.? Could you also state your reasons for the preference?
    Thank you

    • Amit, MDI (PGDM) and IIFT are at par on almost all aspects and hence the only way to differentiate is on the basis of specialisation. IIFT offers a program in IB and also allows you to specialise in one of marketing, finance, trading or systems. However in terms of placements the opportunities are fewer for finance and systems. MDI on the other hand offers a general management program and is likely to provide better opportunities in all areas except trading or IB. So if you are keen on IB/Trading then go for IIFT else MDI should be the preferred institute.

  24. Dear Sir,

I am a CL student. I gave Mah Mba test and my score is 92% with 105 marks. I drop into the OMS category. I hold 2 years exp also. What are my chances for getting into Jamnalal Bajaj, SIMSREE, KJ Somaiya, and Welingkar.

    Many thanks in-advance

  25. Sir,
I want to know which institute is better : SCIT, Pune or IMT, Nagpur(marketing) in terms of placements, faculty, ROI, infrastructure.

    • Himanshu, overall the two institutes are at par but if you are looking at MBA Systems (or IT) then SCIT should be preferred and IMT Nagpur for marketing.

  26. Hello GP Sir!
I have only one call from PGP ABM Ahmedabad. The results are coming next week.If I make it to the final list, should I join the program or take a drop?. Many people told me ABM isnt all that great and the placements are not even close to PGP.
Sir please help me.Its a matter of my whole life!I shall be very thankful!
    Thanking You
    Ankit Suri

    • Ankit, please update me on your:
      1. academic background.
      2. marks in X, XII and Graduation
      3. work experience and current salary.
      4. score in CAT/XAT/NMAT/SNAP this year.

      • Sir
        10th- 95%
        12th-93%
        Graduation-83%
        No work experience!In final year
        CAT-65%(NC OBC)
Also what are my chances of ABM selection.GD and PI were good!

  27. To GP sir,

Please tell me whether FMS BHU, UBS Chandigarh and DSM-DTU Delhi are good institutes or not. And which one is best. I got 89.98%ile in CAT. What should be my preference order for these institutes?

    • NAgesh, DSM DTU has poor placements and should not be considered. UBS Chandigarh has also been struggling for placements for the last couple of years. FMS BHU followed by UBS Chandigarh is my preference.

      • GP sir thanks for your advice. FMS BHU and UBS both offer MBA IB. Is it a good branch? And I got previous year placement records of DSM DTU from somewhere and highest package there was 17 lakhs, there were also some other decent offers, so I got confused.

        • Nagesh, 17 lakh will be an exception and may also include a significant variable. MBA IB is a good branch and offers careers not only in international business but also in domestic sales & marketing.

  28. Sir,
I am planning to join SIOM and hence wanted to know a few things about it. 1)How are the placements at SIOM? 2)How good is it in terms of R.O.I? 3) How do you rate the course in terms of the curriculum w.r.t other colleges offering SCM/ Operations?

    • Jayanth, Operations is not the prefered area for MBA as it does not have too many openings but SIOM has decent placement with an average . salary of around Rs 8.5 lakh pa for laterals and around 6.5 lakh pa for freshers. Please refer to the placement link on the website of SIOM. With a not very high fee (around 9 lakh) you have a decent ROI. If you are interested in Operations then this is an excellent institute because other institutes do not offer too many electives in this area. In SIOM you will have operations courses in every semester.

  29. GP sir, I have already converted IFMR and NMIMS Bangalore. So will it be prudent for me to leave NMIMS Bangalore and join IFMR as I am interested in finance.

    • PArtha, between these two my preference will be for NM Bangalore, the stronger brand name which also has the potential of going up in ranking and reputation.

      • GP Sir, I am in a dilemma because before converting the calls, about a month ago, when I had asked you for your preference for finance specialization (above, the 3rd post in this series), you had mentioned that your preference was IFMR followed by NMIMS Bangalore. Actually I have to pay the fees very fast. Hence I am in a fix. Please help me sir.

        • Parrtha, NMIMS Bangalore is the preference over IFMR Chennai. Based on additional data at times we change our preferences. Apologise for causing this confusion.
In fact in a subsequent query of your the order was TAPMI > KJ Somaiya > NMIMS Bangalore > BIM Tech > Welingkar > IFMR

    Thanking You
    Sandeep Sodhi

    • Sandeep, apologise for the delay.
ABM is a good program and while the placements are lower than that of PGP by about 20-25% due to it being a sectoral program, it does offer very good career opportunities with Sales and Marketing being the biggest.
What are your CAT/XAT scores, your past academics and work experience?

  31. GP sir my acads are- 10th-71 12th-72 B.COM-58 (D.U) MAT DEC- 90%ILE CMAT- 82%ILE WORKEX- 13 MONTHS
I have converted bimm (pgdm) and isbm pune nande campus and waiting for xime results, sir i have to do mba this year only, please tell me any colleges which i can try?? I have applied for BIMTECH (R.M) ,NIA AND SIESCOMS. Please suggest sme colleges according to my profile??

    • Ashish, between your current calls you can consider BIMM. I would recommend SIESCOM and NIA over the others. Based on your MAT score you can also apply to Amity Noida (program code 10019).

  32. sir plz through some light on xiss hr.taking in account its brand value, placement, future oppurtunities.

  33. Hello GP Sir.
I have heard that Welingkar Mumbai has been blacklisted by a few companies and they dont recruit from there. Is this just a rumour or is it true?

  34. Sir what is the lowest XAT Score at which a fresher candidate has converted GIM? This is because the initial list which was out(they are only taking in people with work experience probably) yesterday has most of the candidates with considerable amount of work experience.

Secondly, sir is there a chance of conversion below 85 in CAT/XAT?

    • Sanchit, IMT is a stronger brand and BIMTECH has a better location but overall the two institutes are close to each other and you can join either of them.

      • Sir but i am a bit skeptical about IMT Nagpur because a friend of mine converted IMT Nagpur even at a score of 68. So.i doubt the credibility of the institute. I am in two minds as to what to do.

        • Sanchit, there is hardly any difference between these two so join the one that you are more comfortable with.

  35. Sir my question is a bit off the track. Sir IMT Nagpur is an average College with average Placements. Can we expect the Placements to improve considerably over the years?
Since it has IMT Ghaziabad as its parent and the Ghaziabad campus has very good Placements so will that help Nagpur to get better Placements in the near future(2-3 years down the line)?

Sir what is your view on this.

    • Dhiraj, IMT Nagpur has been there for a long time and has settled into a level which is unlikely to change. Each campus of an institute has to fend for itself and in this case the location (Nagpur) has possibly been its weak link. I do not think that its placement or ranking or reputation will change in the short term.

      • Sir it has been seen that some of the top MNC’s still do not recruit frm IMT Nagpur. Yes it has not picked up since its inception.
Sir do you suggest opting for it? I am quite skeptical about my career growth.
        As a fresher(if i have a good CGPA) can i expect a Package of 8-9 lacs p.a?

          • X-72
            XII- 78
            Graduation(BBA)- 75.50. 2013 Passout.
Engaged in Family Business since August 2013.
            XAT-83.78
Could not convert TAPMI. Cleared IFMR but not joining.
            Gave interviews of GIM, IMTNagpur(converted).
Applied to Welingkar Mumbai and GL PGDM.

          • Dhiraj, TAPMI followed by GIM are the best among the institutes mentioned by you. Hopefully GIM will give a favourable result. I will not rule out TAPMI also because once the IIMs, XLRI, FMS and IITs come out with their results you will see a significant movement in the wait lists of all institutes. IMT Nagpur is a good institute with an average salary of Rs 6.2 lakh pa but good students can expect a salary of 7-8 lakh pa. GL PGDM has reported good placements (average 8 lakh pa) and hence it can be considered favourably.

          • Sir not hopeful of TAPMI at all. Sir is GIM possible at such a low XAT score that i have?

  36. GP sir i need your advice. I do not have many options.left. IMT Magpur, Welingkar Mumbai and IBS Hyderabad are my options.
Firstly, sir could you please rank them according to Placements and future perspective.
Secondly, does IBS Hyderabad have an edge over IMT Nagpur as far as Placements are concerned? Is it because of the location advantage and the fact that a number of reputed companies come over to IBS for Placements(irrespective of the Package offered).

    Please advice Sir.

    • Archit, you have to choose between IMT Nagpur and Welingkar Mumbai. IBS Hyderabad is a decent institute but expensive and with a huge batch size. Welingkar too has a huge batch size but being in Mumbai is helpful for placements. IMT Nagpur has the strongest brand name among the three but the location haspulled it down. Between these three my you can consider going to Welingkar purely on the basis of placements.

  37. Sir which should be chosen among IMT Nagpur and welingkar Mumbai?(Interested in Finance/Marketing)

What is the median salary of both the institutes?

    • Saurav, the two institutes are similar but Welingkar has a bigger batch due to its multiple programs. However you may choose Welingkar due to its location.

      • Sir i have 2 questions.
Firstly, is GIM possible at 83.50 in XAT? I did not get through in the initial list that came out yesterday. Mostly people with considerable amount of work experience have been selected.

Secondly, i did not mention my work experience details while filling the application form during registration, however i did tell them in the interview that i have been assisting in my Family Business(not exactly full time) and i was questioned a lot on my work experience. Will they consider this as work experience?

        • Saurav, it is difficult but not ruled out if you have had a good interview. Also once the IIMs, XLRI, FMS and the IITs come out with their results there will be a significant movement in the wait list of all other institutes.
Regarding the work experience you would have been given credit for work ex in the interview but if you did not mention it in the registration fit will be considered as zero work experience.

          • Yes sir i did not mention it in the application form while registration but told the panel in the interview. So whether they would consider it or not is the question.

  38. GP SIR

WHAT if i have to choose b/w N L DALMIYA AND WALINKER MUMBAI, WHICH ONE IS ADVISABLE FROM YOUR SIDE.

  39. Sir, i am 2013 passout..currently working in infosys(approx 8 months work ex).. this year with my scores welingkar is my only option..so is it worth joining or i should or i should keep working and try next year???

    • Anirudh, if you are confident of getting around 95%ile in CAT/XAT then with a good job you can afford to go for a retake.

      • Thank you sir for the much needed advice but i have this one more thing in my mind that while working, if in next year also i end up getting call from Kjsomaiya, ximb, or sydenham league clgs thn is it worth joining them next year or i should take admission this year….

        • Anirudh, two questions from my side:
          1. What are your CAT, XAT, CMAT, SNAP and NMAT scores this year?
          2. How did you prepare and were you well prepared for CAT’13?

          • 1) CAT : 86
            NMAT : 191
            CMAT(feb): 178
            2) Sir although i started well but later on after job i was not able to give much time to study in my training period and after being thr i aslo had a thought of not doing mba and to stay in this field only but now finally i have decided to switch to mba either this year or next year.

          • Anirudh, if with insufficient preparation you have got these scores then you can definitely improve and move to the next level of institutes with some serious preparation. For a retake one needs to focus on practice and testing for which you will need to put in a couple of hours on weekdays and 4-6 hours on holidays.
Also XIMB, KJ Somaiya and Sydenham are significantly better in terms of placements than Welingkar.

  40. Sir please help me choose between Welungkar Mumbai, IMT Nagpur and Great Lakes PGDM. What should be my order of preference?

    • Anoop, Great Lakes PGDM has reported good placements (average of 8 lakh pa) hence you can consider it over the other two. IMT Nagpur is the best known but has a location disadvantage, Welingkar has a big batch size (due to multiple programs) but has to advantage of being in Mumbai.

      • Yes sir even i checked the GL Website and the.PGDM Placements(Interim Placement Report) shows an average of 8 lacs and median of 7.88 lacs. But sir is it advisable to go for GL PGDM from future perspective nd can we expect better Placements by the time i Graduate?

        • Anoop, you can expect better placements by the time you graduate but one cannot be sure about it. You have to choose between GL PGDM and Welingkar, my feeling is that GL is likely to be a better choice. Welingkar is stuck in a slot and is unlikely to move up significantly while GL can.

  41. gp sir,
iift has bring a new program 3year weekend program for a person having atleast 3 year work ex so tell me will this program will have same value as there main ib program.

    • Pradeep, part time programs are not valued as much as the full time programs but among the part time programs it will have some value.

      • sir

i have to choose b/w walinkar mumbai and ibs hyd, fee is not a factor for me & the avg salary of top 10% students of ibs hyd is 10 lakh & mumbai walinkar highest is around 10 lakh so which one should i choose on placement basis & i have approx 3 year work ex with ctc around 3lakh. i have to take admission this year.

  42. hello gp sir

kindly arrange these college ibs gurgaon , ndim new delhi and asia pacific….my choices to a b-school are limited to ncr region…so kindly suggest any other decent b-school in this league..i don’t have any other good option….please guide

  43. hi gp sir

i would like to know whether doing mba will be any good for me.

    my academic details are:

    x-75
    xii-78
btech -59.98(faculty failed me in internals in final year). had never thought that i would even fail to get 60%.

because i was 2 marks short of 60% 3 jobs slipped from my hand.

do companies visitng mba campuses also have 60% criteria for graduation?

anyways i am preparing for ssc cgl 2014.

    • Tushar, almost all the MBA institutes ask for 50% in graduation so eligibility is not an issue. At the time of placement most of the companies consider your performance in the program and not your past academics. It will be useful to prepare for CAT as well as CGL simultaneously since there is a significant overlap in the syllabus.

  44. Hi GP Sir,

I have 42 months of experience in IT. I currently earn around 4.5LPA. CAT this year went disastrous for me. I have got waitlist for SCIT. Got selected for IMT Nagpur.I had also applied for GMBA IT in SPJain Global and got shortlisted(but it is too expensive). I have written Feb CMAT and have got a score of 179 with 3000 rank. I guess i have chance for Welingkar. Please advise which would be better or should i start preparing for the next year. Pleas also advice on the order of preference.

    Thanks

    • krs, with 42 month of work experience none of the institutes that you have mentioned are recommended. To my mind you should be going for a 1 year program from ISB or top institutes outside India or in the worst case from GL Chennai. Please contact Ms Shradha Dave shradha.dave@careerlauncher.com for more information on GMAT and 1 year MBA programs.

  45. Hello GP Sir. I have a couple of questions.
Firstly, sir is IMT Nagpur a decent Institute? There are rumours that the Placements are quite below standard.
Secondly, what should be the preference among IMT Nagpur, Welingkar Mumbai and IBS Htderabad.

    Thanks in advance.

    • Pratik, IMT Nagpur is a decent college but has a location disadvantage. Among the colleges that you have mentioned Welingkar could be preferred due to its location followed by IMT Nagpur.

  46. Sir,
Could you please rank the following institutes in order
Welingkar, Tapmi, IFMR, NMIMS Bangalore, KJ Somaiya, Bimtech and IMT Nagpur.

    Thank You

  47. Hello Sir

Please help me choose between IMI and TAPMI.
TAPMI has increased its batch size to 420.
Which according to you will be a better option.I have converted TAPMI and quite confident in IMI results .

    • Dear Prateek,

Both IMI and TAPMI are very similarly ranked institutes. IMI may have a slight edge over TAPMI.

  48. Dear Sir,

I have converted the following colleges. Which one among these should I join keeping in mind the placement opportunities.
SITM PUNE, SIOM NASIK, IMT NAGPUR, BIMTECH NOIDA(PGDM).

I am a engg graduate (2013 passout) with no work ex.
Sir I have heard that most of the companies prefer the work ex people during the time of placements so keeping SPECIFICALLY this point in mind please suggest the best one among these.

    Thanks

    • Dear Jasmeet,

Among these institutes, SIOM Nasik is the best option for you. The order of preference should be SIOM > BIMTECH > IMT Nagpur > SITM Pune.

    • Jasmeet, there is a small typo, SITM has been placed incorrectly, in terms of placement the order of preference SITM and SIOM are at the top. SIOM should be preferred only if you are keen on specialising in operations else SITM is the right choice. The correct order of preference is: SIOM = SITM > BIMTECH > IMT Nagpur.

  49. I have to choose between SCIT, SIIB and GIM goa. I am an engineer and have a 28 months experience as on date. My current CTC is 4LPA. I got 93.2%ile in SNAP and 86.6%ile in XAT.
Which college would be a better choice??

  50. GP Sir,

I have converted my calls from NM-Hyd and SIIB E&E and have decided not to take admission in any of them. I have calls from GIM, IFMR, TAPMI and IRMA. Could you rate these colleges in terms of Placements and future prospects along with NM-Banglore.
Also I gave the IBPS Bank PO exam and i am absolutely confident of converting that call.
How would you rate getting a job at one of the banks in comparison to these colleges? I am a fresher and had dropped for my preparation for MBA entrance exams.

    • Dear Pawan,

The rankings among these institutes will be IRMA > TAPMI > GIM > NM-Bangalore > IFMR. Studying from IRMA would certainly be a better option than a Bank PO’s job. But, a Bank PO’s job would be a better option than the other institutes in this list. Further, after getting a Bank PO’s job, you may still choose to pursue an MBA from a top institute later on.

  51. HI SIR
    mat feb composite 727
    feb cmat 177 marks
btech 2013 pass out with 70.59% with no ex

plz suggest me some good colleges taking placement into concern.ihave already gone through christ bangalore gdpi process with results awaiting (hopeless)
bimm and jims rohini yet to go on 5 and 7 of april

sir plz suggest some other colleges to be filled

    • Dear Karan,

You may think of institutes like IILM Delhi, NDIM Delhi, EMPI Delhi, etc. Do note, though, that these are relatively low ranked institutes. It may be a good idea to get a job, prepare for entrance exams again and go to a better institute.

      • NO I DONT WANT TO GIVE ANOTHER 1 YEAR.IS MY SCORE TOO LOW TO GET ANY DECENT COLLEGE..
        MAT 727 (97.06)
        CMAT 177(96 PERCENTILE)

        • AND SIR WHAT ABOUT
          * ISME BANGALORE(GOT SELECTED)
          1.JIMS ROHINI
          2,BIMM
          3.IBS MUMBAI
ARE DERE ANY GOOD CHANCES FOR THESE

          • Karan, JIMS Rohini is the best among these and IBS Mumbai can be ignored. You have a good chance in all these institutes.

        • Karan, you can get admission to these institutes based on your CMAT score. You can apply to Welingkar and IMT NAgpur also on the basis of CMAT score. The last date of application is 31st March.

    • Aditi, IMT Nagpur is a decent institute. Its average salary is around Rs 6 lakh pa and the median will also be similar.

      • Thanks Sir. One more query: What should be the order of preference among these ?
IMT Nagpur, SOIL Gurgaon, Welingker Mumbai
And do companies visit IMT Nagpur for summer internships?

        • Aditi, companies do visit IMT Nagpur for summer placement.
In terms of reported salaries SOIL is the highest but is also the least known among the three. IMT Nagpur is a decent institute but has a location disadvantage. Welingkar has the lowest fee among the three, is the oldest and has the advantage of being in Mumbai. Possibly Welingkar will be the best among these three.

    • Dear Naman,

These three institutes are roughly at the same level. Do consider the fees for these institutes and opt for the institute with the lowest fee.

    • Dear Aniket,

These three institutes are very similar and there is hardly any difference between them. Look at the fees of these institutes and opt for the one that has the lowest fee.

  52. Sir i have been selected for IMT Nagpur PGDM-Marketing. I had given PGDM(Full Time) as my 1st preference. Do i have a chance of getting upgraded to PGDM(Full Time)?

  53. GP Sir,

I have converted my calls from NM-Hyd and SIIB E&E and have decided not to take admission in any of them. I have calls from GIM, IFMR, TAPMI and IRMA. Could you rate these colleges in terms of Placements and future prospects alongwith NM-Banglore.
Also I gave the IBPS Bank PO exam and i am absolutely confident of converting that call too.

  54. Dear Sir,
First of all a very big thanks to you for taking initiatives like this(your blog) for helping students in all possible ways. I truely appreciate that.I am a Electronics and comm engg(fresher)
Sir I am opting for SITM this year.(The other options being IMT Nagpur,Bimtech(Noida PGDM), SIOM(Nashik), IBS(Hyd.))

Should I reconsider my decision of joining Sitm. I am mainly confused between SITM,SIOM AND IMT(Nagpur).
    Plz help.
Also kindly suggest some good magzines/newspaper/books/websites that you think would help.

    Thanks and Regards

    • Dear Prabhjot,

You are welcome. Among these institutes, the order of preference will be SIOM > BIM Tech > IMT Nagpur > IBS Hyderabad > SITM. SIOM should be your first choice. Do read good business magazines. That will be helpful for you.

    • Prabhjot, there is a small typo, SITM has been placed incorrectly, in terms of placement the order of preference SITM and SIOM are at the top. SIOM should be preferred only if you are keen on specialising in operations else SITM is the right choice. The correct order of preference is: SIOM =SITM > BIM Tech > IMT Nagpur > IBS Hyderabad.

  55. Sir, I got a convert for IMT-G Dual country program and IMT Hyderabad – Finance in the first list. What are my chances of getting a convert for IMT-G Finance after the first list ?

    • Rishabh, once the IIMs, FMS, XLRI, MDI, IITs etc come out with their results there will be withdrawls from IMT and you can get upgraded to IMT G finance.

      • Sir, there is no waiting list on their website till now, soo there is a lot of confusion, what are the chances of the convert in your experience. My gd went really good, interview was average.

        • Dear Risabh,

We need more information to be able to answer this query. Let us wait for the institute to come out with further lists.

  56. sir my candidature details:
    SSC: non-maharashtra
    HSC: non-maharashtra
    GRAD: maharashtra(nagpur)
    domicile: non-maharashtra
    do i belong to OMS?
    kindly confirm.

        • Dear Shivam,

Among these institutes, S P Jain has the best brand value. However, IBS Hyderabad will lead in terms of return on investment (RoI) due to the high cost of the other two programs. If you wish to choose on the basis of RoI, go for IBS. On the other hand, if you wish to go for a name and do not have financial constraints, then S P Jain is best for you.

    • Shaunak, Welingkar Mumbai is cheaper and has better placements than IBS Hyderabad. Also the location, Mumbai, is an advantage from the perspective of career opportunities.

  57. sir, my may %ile is 99.37 and cmat score is 162. Is there any good option available for me?
if yes than suggest me plzzzzzzzz

  58. hello sir i converted bimtech.(retail)….pls throw some light on retail in bimtech..also waiting fo xime result…is icfai banglore a good option?also looking at greatlakes pgdm..but since its only their first batch not sure about its programe…pls help..

    • Ashok, Retail is a specialised course with placement opportunities in the retail sector and to a small extent in marketing. XIME GL PGDM will be better options. GL PGDM has reported good placement (average of 8 lakh pa) so it should be considered favourably by you.

      • THANKS A LOT SIR.ONE MORE QUERY ..IF I WERE TO CHOOSE AMONG ICFAI IBS BANGALORE, MUMBAI OR PUNE..WHAT SHOULD BE THE ORDER..
ARE THESE INSTITUTES ANY GOOD..IF SO WHAT ARE THEIR PLACEMENT SCENARIOS…

        • Ashok, it will be Mumbai followed by Pune = Bangalore. Bombay is preferred due to better placement opportunities.

  59. hello sir,
i have read your feedback, but let me tell you my overall situation this time . i have completed my graduation in 2012, given mat 2012-13 scored not so well 419 as a composite score so i have being not getting good colleges and some financial crisis happens so i have dropped my plan and started for preparing for bank exams and other public sectors exam in fact in ibps po and clerk both my OBC cut-off was not clear by 1 mark in reasoning in PO and by 4 marks in QUANT in clerk.then again i have filled management entrance test for 2014-2016 pgdm and mba program and now this time i want good inough b- school at any chance . so this time my mat score is 553.5 and 54.77percentile .
i m having some choice of b-schools plz help me out and arrange them according to your preference
INDIRA pune, IFIM BANGALORE, AIMS BANGALORE, FORTUNE DELHI, ITM NAVI MUMBAI, ITM BANGALORE, PUMBA, IIBS BANGALORE, IIBR. please sir need guidance i will be very thankful to you.
i am selected for bimhrd pune but placement wise its not good enough i have visited and talk to the seniour of that college especially for hr specialisation.
i m from bhopal and my preferences are hr and finance and i have completed my BBA dual specialisation in the same..

      • but sir i have heard the curriculum of PUMBA and it is highly influenced by biotechnology subject is it so AND GP SIR HAD ALSO SUGGESTED FOR FORTUNE delhi

        • how is KIRLOSKAR harihar and pune AND INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF BUSINESS AND MEDIA FOR HR SPECIALIZATION………..
MY ACADEMICS ARE GOOD ENOUGH TO GET SCHOLARSHIP………
          10TH 74%
          12th 70%
          and BBA 82.33%
plz suggest some good colleges in bangalore

          • Kirti, Kirloskar is avoidable due to poor placements. You can try for Welingkar Bangalore also. The criteria for scholarship varies and hence cannot be generalised.

  60. Sir,
Could you please rank the following institutes in order
Welingkar, Tapmi, IFMR, NMIMS Bangalore, KJ Somaiya, Bimtech.

    Thank You

    • Dear Partha,

The order of preference among these institutes is TAPMI > KJ Somaiya > NMIMS Bangalore > BIM Tech > Welingkar > IFMR.

      • Thank you for your advice. Sir, it would be great if you would specify the reason for IFMR being last in the list.

          • GP sir, I have already converted IFMR and NMIMS Bangalore. So will it be prudent for me to leave NMIMS Bangalore and join IFMR as I am interested in finance.

          • Partha, in the long run (and also short term) NM is likely to be the better choice since it is a stronger brand name and hence should be preferred over IFMR.

  61. Dear Sir,

    I have converted BIMTECH Noida.
I still need to attend interviews for IFMR Chennai and BITS Pilani
Waiting for the results of XIME Bangalore and IMT Nagpur

Could you suggest me the order of preference among the below schools considering all the factors necessary for a good bschool. Also have work experience in TCS for 19 months.

    IMT Nagpur
    BITS Pilani
    IFMR Chennai
    BIMTECH Greater Noida
    XIME Banglaore
    IIFM Bhopal
    SCIT
    Welingkar Mumbai

    Kindly clear my confusion sir.

    • Prakash, practically none of the institutes are recommended for someone with 19 month experience with TCS. The average salary in most of these institutes is around 6 lakh pa. Ideally you should continue with your job, go for a retake of CAT/XAT and also take GMAT to open the option of 1 year MBA from ISB Hyderabad and other institutes in/outside India.

      • Dear GP Sir,

Sir i have resigned my job during Jun 2013 and i am desperate to enter into good b-school this year.

Kindly need your valuable guidance Sir.

        • Prakash, among the institutes that you have mentioned you can consider IFMR Chennai, IMT Nagpur, Welingkar Mumbai and BIMTECH Noida. The first three are preferable to BIMTECH.

          • Dear GP Sir,

Sir i am confused what specialization to take. Can you tell me any structured approach for choosing a specialization.

Should i take any Psychometric tests for better decisions?

            Best regards,
            Prakash R

          • prakash, the decision of specialisation can be deferred to your 2nd year of MBA. Most institutes will expose you to all areas of management in the 1st year and you choose the area of specialisation only in the 2nd year.

  62. Dear GP Sir,
    my profile is as follow-
    General category
    male
    BE(Electronics and comm.) 2013 passout
    No work experience

I have converted the following calls-
SITM (Pune), SIOM(Nashik), bimtech noida(PGDM), ICFAI Hyderabad.
Quite hopeful about IMT Nagpur results.

Keeping all the imp aspects (PLACEMENT(being a fresher), batch size, internship opportunities etc) in mind plz arrange these in preference order.

(I am aware of the fact that siom and sitm offer specific prog. but still plz arrange them assuming my equal interests for both)

    Thanks

    • Ajeet, you have to choose between SITM and IMT Nagpur as they will provide the best placement and career opportunities. My preference is for SITM.

      • Thank you Sir for your prompt reply.

I will go for SITM. Since I am not working currently and with approx 2 months left for college commencement; what should I do in these 2 months time.

Would you like to suggest any course/certification/software/foreign language/specific subject etc that I can join/study during these 2 months time…..(for eg anything that might help me for my mba)..and even otherwise…

Presently I am reading novels and current affairs magzines.

Also plz suggest any newspaper magzine etc that I must read…

        Thanks

        • Dear Ajeet,

You may read the basics of subjects like Economics, Accounts or Statistics. These will be useful for you.

  63. Hello Sir,
I got a call from ICFAI Gurgaon ,SOIL(School of inspired leadership)Gurgaon and BIMTECH Noida (sponsored/NRI category), which one I should choose?
Please help me sir, I am really confused….

    • Gaurav, SOIL can be considered among these three institutes. BIMTECH Noida is not recommended because of very high fee for sponsored candidates.

  64. Sir i have applied to Welingkar Mumbai. I have been called for a Psychometric Test. Sir is it an elimination round or all students are selected for the next stage?

  65. GP sir, going through a low phase here. declared not eligible by NMIMS yesterday. NM bang was the only convert i had.
    my scores r as follows
    XAT 93.17
    CMAT feb 98.57
    MAT feb 99.79
    ATMA feb 99.77
even though my AIR is 5, the corresponding percentile is coming out to be very low because of a really less no of people giving ATMA.
should i be expecting anything now from DTE? OMS here.
is there any good college left to apply for this season?
    help.

    • Kenneth, given that JBIMS is possible through CAT/XAT/MAT/ATMA/CMAT anyone with less than 99%ile (OMS category) is unlikely to make it to JBIMS. Your best bet is likely to be Sydenham.
NM Mumbai has put you on wait list or you are rejected?

      • sir i am currently waitlisted for mumbai, n declared “not eligible”. i had a re exam in my last semester. i had asked the seniors n the person concerned in the “contact us” link. they told me it’s fine as long as i finish my grad in the stipulated time-4 years. they asked me to write an application regarding the same. m waiting for the verdict. is there any good b school left to apply for this season?

        • Kenneth, as per the NM rules as long as you can complete your graduation in the stipulated time you are eligible so the decision is likely to be in your favour. The only decent college that is available now is Welingkar.

  66. Sir how would u rank in order…
    Bimtech,Liba,Bim trichy,IIT kgp(mhrm),fms bhu,npti….
    i am electrical engineering student

    • Aritra, IIT Kgp is the best among these but should be considered only if you are keen of HRM, if not interested in HRM then BIM Trichy is the best. BHU FMS, BIMTECH and LIBA are almost similar in terms of placement. While LIBA and BIMTECH are better known and also better located FMS BHU is the cheapest.
NPTI is at the bottom since it will restrict your options.

  67. Hello GP sir,
How is SIMS pune from future prospective?
Also dont u think its batch size of 300 seems an issue during placement?

    • NAthan, SIMS offers good placement opportunities at a low fee and hence is a good option despite its batch size. They have been able to place the students well in the past and are unlikely to have a problem in future.

  68. GP SIR
I HAVE APPLIED FOR MH-CET, NOW I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHETHER I HAVE TO APPLY SEPARATELY FOR JBIMS, SIMSREE, KG SOMIYA & OTHER COLLEGES WHICH ARE UNDER MH CET.

  69. Sir,
I am a student from Conduira (Vizag).
Sir, I got selected in Jaipuria Noida.
And also shortlisted in AIMS bangalore and ISME Bangalore.
I even applied for VIT university.
Sir , I have applied for PGDM course in AIMS bangalore. Is it worth? or doing an MBA from AIMS is good?
    ISME, Aims, or VIT?
If I should apply for any other colleges pls tell me sir.

    10th-89%
    12th- 88%
    BBM – 82%
    CAT 65%le
    MAT 590 Composite score

    • Rusa, you have a very good academic record but your CAT/MAT scores are disappointing. These institutes are below your academic performance but march you CAT/MAT scores. Do you have any other options?

      • No, sir I do not have any other options..
Could you please suggest me any other colleges to which I should me looking at?

        • Rusa, unfortunately no decent B schools are possible at your score. My suggestion is to either look at options outside MBA (Banking, SSC etc) or go for a retake of MBA entrances. Do pick up a job if you decide to go for a retake.

    • Saurav, NMIMS is ranked higher than IIFT Kolkata but most of the students who get IIFT Kolkata in the 1st list get upgraded to IIFT Delhi which is preferable to NMIMS. If possible pay the first installment for both IIFT and NMIMS, if you make it to IIFT Delhi then withdraw from NMIMS else withdraw from IIFT Kolkata. As per AICTE guidelines they will deduct RS 1000 and refund the rest.

  70. Sir is Welingkar Mumbai a good College or is it avoidable? Will the career growth be good after Graduating from it or will it be dufficult?
Please help me sir. I am a fresher 2013 BBA Graduate.

    • Abhishek, Welingkar-Mumabi is in the top-5 colleges through MH-CET. If you are willing to go for MBA this year only and don’t have other better options, you can go for it. Since you are a fresher, you can consider retaking CAT/XAT or other exams aiming for the premier institutes.

        • Abhishek, the salary will be a function of the institute but this qualification is likely to improve your package and/or get you a better opportunity.

    • Ashutosh, SDMIMD, IMT Nagpur and XIME are almost at the same level, have similar placement and fee. Thus ranking determines the order of performance – IMT Nagpur, XIME Bangalore and SDMIMD.

  71. sir please tell me the order of preference .i have these options.m fresher male engg
    IMT G
    IIT ROORKEE
    IIT kanpur
    IMI
    GIM
    BIM trichy
    NIRMA
    KJ somaiya

    • Adarsh, just focus on the interviews, all of these are good institutes and let us worry about the order of preference once you get the final calls.

  72. Dear Sir,

I am waitlisted 46 in Scmhrd MBA-IM and not quite sure about the chances of conversion considering the Central selection procedure of Symbiosis. Beyond that I am also not sure about the course itself, placements, future prospects although it matches with my profile. I have a mechanical engineering (JU) background with a job of 4 lpa in an engineering consultancy. If selected, should I join the course or sit for entrances again next year??

    Thanks,

    • Srijan, you will most probably convert SCMHRD IM call.
What are your other options, CAT/XAT scores and marks in X, XII & Graduation?

      • Thank you sir,

        CAT – 90, XAT – 81
I had an IIFT call but could not convert it and I am not hopeful of a waitlist. My acads are
        Class X – 88.33 % (ICSE)
        Class XII – 90.8 % (CBSE)
        Graduation – 8.5 CGPA ( B.E – Mech, JU)
Work pressure is also affecting my preps so I need to take a call.

          • GP Sir,
18 months as of now, but this was my second attempt at entrances ( I skipped 2013). However my work-ex is pretty technical (detail engineering) and I don’t know how that shall add to my profile for an mba. Sir, please help me out.

            Thanks,

          • Srijan, have one last shot at MBA entrances but this time take GMAT also to open up the option of ISB Hyderabad. Given your academic record and work experience SCMHRD IM will be a compromise. An extra year of work experience along with a small improvement (extra 2-3 questions correct) can get you into the next level of institutes. However if you are tired with MBA entrances then join SCMHRD IM as it is a decent option.

    • Animesh, you should consider that only if you have interest in Energy sector (specially renewable/sustainable energy sector).

  73. Gp sir,
I have converted sdmimd. How good is it. Is it worth investing considering ROI ? I’m really confused. I am a fresher.
And sir, are sdmimd , imt nagpur and xime more or less at the same level ?

    • Sudarshan, SDMIMD, IMT Nagpur and XIME are almost at the same level, have similar placement and fee. Thus go for the highest ranked out of the three – IMT Nagpur.

      • Thank you sir, one more question how is SIESCOM with a package of 6.5 lakh this year and a fee of around 5.5 lakh. is it preferred over sdmimd ?

        • Sudarshan, it can be considered over SDMIMD but to the best of my knowledge the average salary is around 5.5 lakh pa.

          • Thank you sir , on its website it shows 6.5 lakh in 2013 -2014. 5.5 lakh for 2012 – 2013. Sir , so you are suggesting to choose siescom as it also has a lower fee.

  74. Sir, I have scored 80.89% in Feb CMAT and have 10 months of work experience in manufacturing sector. Please guide me which colleges should i apply?

      • I have decided to apply to Welingkar, Mumbai, Kirloskar, Harihar and ITM, Navi Mumbai. I want to pursue MBA(OPERATIONS) .Please guide me regarding these colleges.

        • Abhishek, Welingkar and ITM NAvi Mumbai are acceptable but Kirloskar is avoidable. MBA Operations has very few openings so keep do couple it up with a Marketing or Finance.

          • What are my chances for Welingkar ?
How’s PGDM(Retail Management) program of BIMTECH? should i apply

          • Abhishek, Welingkar is possible and you can apply to PGDM Retail of BIMTECH. It is a decent back up option.

          • Now, that IMT Nagpur has again opened applications for its PGDM programs. Should i apply with my CMAT feb score? What are my chances.

          • i am quite skeptical regarding ITM , Navi Mumbai. Its fees is around 10Lakhs plus and avg. placement is around 4.8 Lacs. Its low ROI is bothering me. Please guide me should i apply? or Welingkar is my best bet.

          • Sir, i have got through PGDM- Business Design at welingkar bangalore. While filing application i have opted for only PGDM and PGDM – BD programs. Well i am an design enthusiast can i consider taking it ?

          • Abhishek, PGDM Business Design is not a creative-design program but is about Organisation design. Please compare the check the course curriculum of BD with PGDM and you will not find too many differences.

          • I have joined Welingkar Bangalore with fair optimism. Whole 2014-16 batch strength is just 120. I would like to thank you for guiding me.

  75. sir, somebody just posted on Pagalguy.com that he was declared not eligible by NMIMS because he gave an exam of his last semester after a month. the university considers this as completion in the stipulated time only. isn’t this unfair?

    • Kenneth, while I disagree with this action of NMIMS, this is the institutes prerogative so it cannot be helped.

        • Sir Welingkar Mumbai has better placements than IMT Nagpur (according to the placement statistics given on their websites). Then why is IMT Nagpur preferred over Welingkar Mumbai?

          • Ankit, placements is the most important parameter but one also looks at other factors like batch size, location and reputation of the institute in working out the relative ranking of the institutes. Also most of the institutes report average placement which is not a good indicator, median is what I prefer but it is not reported so we rely on informal sources of information.

          • Sir,in general icfai Bangalore is worth or not i got admission only there so shall i join or not im confused

        • Vicky, placements is the most important parameter but one also looks at other factors like batch size, location and reputation of the institute in working out the relative ranking of the institutes. Also most of the institutes report average placement which is not a good indicator, median is what I prefer but it is not reported so we rely on informal sources of information.

  76. Sir
i have got selected for SIMS(defence),pune and waiting list 3 for SSBF.Other collage that i’m considering is NIBM,pune and K J Somaya.
I’m fresher and i’m placed in igate ctc 3.15lpa.Should i look for MBA this time or later.

    • Gaurav, SIMS has a decent placement record and you can consider joining it over SSBF. Go for a retake only if you are confident of scoring at least 95%ile in CAT/XAT or over 98%ile in SNAP.

  77. hello gp sir

i have been put in waitlist for SIBM-B AT 449 AND SIIB at 655. i am an open/general category with commerce background with approx 3yrs work experience…..what are my chances for both colleges??…and if converted both which one i should choose betwwen them

      • sir my current salary is 3 per annum…..sir if by chance i convert both SIBM-B & SIIB which one is better??……sir i have also appeared for lbs fore imi & imt….kindly arrange them as per your preference along with simbi colleges

        • Manisha, SIIB is preferable to SIBM Blr since it is an older institute.
The order of preference could be IMT, IMI, SIIB, LBS, FORE, SIBM Blr.

  78. Dear Sir,

I have converted SITM pune, BIMTECH Noida(PGDM), IBS Hyderabad.

    Waiting for imt nagpur results…..
plz give your preference order………..keeping in mind the placement opportunities, industry exposure etc.

I am a fresher (2013 passout), no work ex, BE(Electronics and comm.)…………General category male

    Thanks

  79. Sir,
What would be your preference among imt-nagpur, sdmimd-mysore, christ, welingkar.
I have call from imt-nagpur and sdmimd mysore.

    • Shailesh, Christ and Welingkar should not be considered. IMT Nagpur should be prefered over SDMIMD due to its better placement opportunities.

  80. Hi GP Sir,
Really need your guidance to take a call.
I have a work ex of 2.5yrs in IT and have got selected to NMIMS Mumbai. But the very high fees(17 lacs including hostel) and the increased batch size to 500 are bothering me. Please let me know if NM is a good choice, considering the fees of other B-schools are not so high. Also, are the placements good enough to justify the above factors. Also, I am hopeful of IMT-G convert. Your guidance is greatly appreciated Sir.

    • Vicky, NMIMS Mumbai is a very good option (despite the high fee and batch size) and should be considered favourably. The only institutes that you can consider over NM Mumbai are the IIMs, XLRI, FMS, IIT Mumbai and ISB Hyderabad.
IMT G is significantly below NM Mumbai and is not in contention.

  81. Hello Sir,
Is wellingkar mum/bang or grt lakes pgdm possible at cat prcntl 77.45..I am yet to apply & how is BIMM Pune?

  82. Sir,

I have a convert from SDMIMD and ISBR, bangalore.. GDPI of XIME is on 15th March.. which college is better? should i go ahead with SDMIMD (last date of payment is 24th March) or attend GDPI of XIME and wait for the results? What do u suggest?

    • Nitin, Among these options SDMIMD and XIME Blr are the two best options. While XIME has the location advantage, SDMIMD is lower on the total fee (including hostel). With a similar average salary you can choose to go to either of these. XIME Kochi should be avoided at present.

  83. Sir,
I am B.Tech in Mech Engg. with 3 years exp.
    10th 80%
    12th 78.9%
    Current salary is 4 lpa.
I am thinking for mba in 2015 session. will it be worth?

One more question. My current location is Ahmednagar Maharashtra. How to prepare for Cat? Coz no good test prep institute is here.

I m very good in quant… But extremely poor in VA.

    Plz Help!!!!

    • Amit, in addition to CAT/XAT you should also take GMAT to open the possibility of 1 year MBA from ISB Hyderabad. Apart from the IIM, ISB, IITs, XLRI, FMS and other top institutes you should also consider Great Lakes PGPM.

  84. Sir, I have been waitlisted for SITM no. 527.Gave interview for GIM PGDM HCM and have 2 calls in hand i.e BIMM pune, XIME bangalore. What should be my preference if I get thru any of them? Graduated in 2012 with no job in hand.Or should I take some job & try next year?

    • Subir, SITM wait list 527 may not clear, your next best option is XIME followed by GIM HCM. SITM and XIME are good and you should consider joining them rather than a go for a retake.

  85. sir, how do i apply for re evaluation of my ATMA score? my score in the reasoning section is way off the mark.

  86. Hello Sir,

Please sort the following colleges as per your preference for me :

    SCMHRD, IMT-G, GIM, Fore, LBSIM.

    Thanks alot in advance.

  87. Hello Sir…I hav got GD/PI calls from IES-MCRC and ISB&M pune…are these colleges worth joining..?..plz help..

    • Tirmakar, these are avoidable. However if you do not have any other options you can go ahead with the interview but do check up with the 2nd year students on the current placements before joining.

  88. hello GP sir (big fan!!)
i have cleared both SITM and IBS hyderabad…..which institute is better for the long run….i am an ece engg. with 33months work exp as marketing excecutive(never really was interested in technicals)…..and i have choosen systems and finance as my specialisation in SITM……so kindly revert on this

      • sir 1 more query following the above one…everyone is saying that after joining SITM i will limit my chances of job in telecom sector only and ibs hyderbad with give me a broader choice….is it so??…..i am also in waiting for SIIB

        • Karan, this is not correct, SITM also has placements in other industries like IT, Consulting. IBS Hyd has poorer placements than SITM and also has a huge batch size. If you get through to SIIB then drop SITM.

          • thnxx for replying sir that helped… i am gonna opt for SITM…..SIIB waiting is 378 sir open/general category…..should i be hopeful ??

          • hello sir

2nd waitlist came yesterday…my 378 (open/gen.) number slided to 177 for SIIB-IB….is it normal that a waitlist moves 200 this early ??….am i gonna make it in next waitlist??…..and SIBM-B’s waitlist has moved 300

          • Karan, the biggest wait list movement will happen when the results of IIMs, FMS, MDI, NITIE and IITs are declared. You will most probably make it to the final list.

  89. Sir,

What are my chances of converting nmims Mumbai at merit number 1011. Till what merit number can we expect merit list to move?

    Thanks

  90. HELLO SIR,
CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT SRI BALAJI SOCIETY (BIMM), PUNE
AND ITS PLACEMENT FOR HR specialization………..

      • sir right now i have applied for isbr ,ifim, ibmt bangalore campus, fortune(delhi), aims bangalore, i have got mail from christ admission process shoul i apply for this.

          • hello sir,
what is your views about ISBR bangalore and chennai campus is thi is good in context of campus placements and course curriculum.?
i have got call from this and IFIM bangalore please suggest .should i apply for selection process for these?
            THANK YOU

          • sir i m from bhopal…….plz suggest me some more good colleges sir according to be i should apply for some more agar in dono me selection nahi hua to atleast i should have options…..plz sir suggest some more good colleges in pune and bangalore delhi as well.

          • Kirti, the kind of institutes that you are considering are unlikely to provide you with good career opportunities. My suggestion is to look at options outside MBA.

  91. GP sir, is there any loan that can be sanctioned without parents’ approval/recommendation? for NMIMS bangalore. help.

  92. i have taken coaching classes from cl last year.my quant is solid abut need further improvement in my verbal part.what should i do for it?are test series and test gym are enough??

    • Aditi, SOIL started on a positive note but has not really been able to make a name for itself. It can be considered at best as a backup.

      • Ok! And what about Adianta School for leadership and innovation?
Because that is also in same lines with soil.

          • Sir,
I have heard that SOIL is not registered under any AICTE UGC etc. Is it true?
And so spending on much on it is advisable?
Also can you tell me average/median package @SOIL?
            Eagerly Waiting for your reply

          • Aditi, you are correct SOIL programs are not AICTE approved but they have decent placements. AICTE/UGC approval allows you to go for higher studies and apply for government jobs. The average salary of SOIL graduates would be around Rs 8.5 lakh pa for the Business Leadership Program and Rs 7 lakh pa for HR Leadership Program and Marketing Leadership Program. While SOIL has a high fee it is a 1 year program that give you one extra year of earning.

  93. sir

  94. Greetings GP Sir,

I am hopeful of a convert from TAPMI, LBSIM, IMT-G, GIM…
i have 20 months of work ex in marketing !!
plz guide me in selecting these colleges by ranking them in order ( according to ROI, faculty, placements etc.)

also, one of my friend wants to know, whether as a backup, BIMTECH is better or IBS HYD ??

    Eagerly awaiting your reply !!!

  95. GP sir, i am waitlisted for NMIMS mumbai at 1248, n converted bangalore. can u please predict the waitlist movement scenario? do i stand any chance for mumbai? need to plan fees accordingly.

    • Kenneth, you might be on the borderline for WL clearance. Chances are there, but nothing can be certainly said.

  96. Sir,
I am an economics hons graduate with 1 year work ex in financial research. I am interested in finance. I have already converted NMIMS Bangalore. I have my GD/PI of IFMR Chennai and hoping to get a call from NIBM Pune. Could you please guide me which one to choose among the three.

    Thank You

    • Partha, among these my order of preference is IFMR followed by NMIMS Blr. NIBM was a good option till the Mumbai High Court verdict against campus recruitment by PSU banks.

  97. Sir
I am having more than 2 years of experience in power sector. I am selected for SCMHRD MBA. Is it worth joining. My current CTC is around 6 LPA and my academics are good.
    Thanks!

    • ak, I think that you should join and SCMHRD. It has a average salary of over Rs 10 lakh pa and will also give you good career opportunities.
Do you have any other calls?
