  1. I.have scored 91% in mat may 2015 kindly.suggest me good colleges with.great placement s
I also.want to know about isbm pune nande campus what ate your views about this Particular college

    • Kritika, none of the colleges that take students through MAT have great placements. The application window for good colleges closed some time ago and you will have to take CAT/XAT/SNAP for admission to any decent institute.
ISBM Pune ia an average institute but can be considered if you have to do an MBA this year itself.

      • So.you mean raking admission through mat will be waste of money.can.you please suggest me colleges that are good enough to take admission now. I.want to.do.mba this year itself.

        • Wellinkar also takes mat what do.u.think.about it…i.have few colleges In mind ifim, wellingkar, isbm, christ, itm mumbai…suggest any.college If you have better ones..

          • Kritika, non of these would figure among the top 75 MBA institutes.
Among the institutes mentioned by you, Welingkar Mumbai and ITM Navi Mumbai.

  2. sir i get to know that AIMS pgdm is a correspondence degree. will it be good to do pgdm from here or pgdm from NDIM. does correspondence has equal value like others or it will be problem in future?

  3. Hi GP,

I am a 2015 CAT aspirant. I am currently in the process of taking CL mocks and practising Test Gym modules. My primary concern is the logical reasoning section, I am at a loss as to how to attack questions from this particular section. Although I am able to solve most of the questions but the time line remains a big deciding factor in competitive examinations. Could you please help me formulate strategies for the same as I feel LR would play a crucial role in maximising my VA scores. Also as the degree of variables are proportional to my solving these questions in the quickest time possible. I am looking forward to your valuable insights.

    • Arnab, Apologise for the delay in responding to your query.
Speed in LR and DI is usually a function of exposure to various kind of data sets, practice and revision. If you are able to solve most of the data sets but time is an issue then you should be revising the time consuming data sets regularly. In DI and LR sets the questions and the choices also give clues to solving the questions hence after understanding the data you should go through the questions and the choices also.

  4. Sir,
I have calls from SITM or Lal Bahadur Shastri.Which is better.I am a commerce grad and fresher.

  5. Respected Sir ,
I have calls from Bimtech noida-ibm(insurance business management) and Kj Somaiya pgdm core…. Which one is a better bet especially considering the fact that increase of FDI from 26 to 49 percent and other progressions in the insurance sector….
    Regards,
    Anchit

    • Anchit, join KJ Somaiya PGDM, it is much better than BIMTECH. The IBM course in any case is restrictive and will have fewer employment opportunities.

  6. Hi Sir,

In second attempt i got 85%ile in cat with 75 quants and 90 verb and in Nmat i got 200. is there any further chance to improve for making it to IIms or top pvt college. if yes how should i improve. please advise.

  7. Sir when can we expect CAT exam this year?
how will be the exam? Will it be tougher than 2014 or similar can be expected?
    Thank You.

    • Cat Aspirant, my guess is 3rd Sunday of November and I expect CAT’15 to have a little more difficult QA and RC as compared to CAT’14 but VL, DI and LR should be of the same level of difficulty.

  8. Sir,This is very important.I have exactly two years of experiance in IT.I converted Greatlakes chennai-PGPM.Tapmi,Fore,Lbsim are my other converts. My IMI results has not come yet(cat percentile -91.29).Sir I know the placements in Greatlakes is good, but i feel it will limit my horizon to IT only. Also there is no aversion from IT but I feel m more inclined towards doing MBA in HR.What should I do?shall I pay the fees of GIM(till the IMI result comes, and if converted IMI ,will leave GIM) or greatlakes?
Is it wise to leave Greatlakes for GIM.
Also i cannot wait for another year.Joining GIM will allow me to take HR while Greatlakes will give me better placement.
Also how is IMI-HR?I heard that its good.

    Thanks in advance sir.

    • Neelam, if you do not want to limit your options then GL PGPM is not an option for you. Among your converts my recommendation is TAPMI followed by GIM. Obviously if IMI PGDM happens then you should move to it. FORE and LBSIM need not be considered at all.
IMI HR is a new program but it has picked up and has reported good placements.

  9. Pranaam Sir,
when can we expect CAT to happen this year? November or December?
How about the difficulty of the exam this year in comparison to last year?

    • Aspirant, my guess is 3rd Sunday of November and I expect CAT’15 to have a little more difficult QA and RC as compared to CAT’14 but VL, DI and LR should be of the same level of difficulty.

  10. SIR I HAVE CONVERTED LBSIM AND IFMR BUT MY BIM WAITING IS 107 IN GENERAL CATEGORY, WHICH ONE IS BETTER OPTION. ALSO WHICH ONE IS BETTER FOR LBS – PGDM GENERAL OR PGDM FINANCE,
    .

  11. GP Sir

How is BITS Pilani for MBA? Its official website shows avg salary package of 8.5lpa, but in CL ranking it is ranked low!

    • Nagesh, BITS Pilani and DSM DTU MBA programs appear to be a good value for money program that will improve in the next few years. It is possible that in the next few years they will move up the ladder.

  12. Hello sir,
I wanted to ask, experience from an IT company is considered better or experience as a school teacher
Or do they play the same role at the time of GD/PI?
    I have done my B.tech!
Preparing for CAT and doing job as a Teacher.

    • Cat aspirant, in terms of weight for work experience both are the same. Experience as a school teacher of 2-3 of years is unlikely to be a problem during the interview but a longer tenure might make it difficult for you to explain why you want to do an MBA.

  13. Hello Sir, I am a Btech fresher, I have a job offer letter of Cognizant as Programmer Trainee Analyst and an admission offer in IISWBM for both MBA and MHRM, I dont fancy myself being an IT professional but is IISWBM worth joining instead of this for my career overall? or any other better suggestions.
I am interested for a career in HR or Social related fields.
I am from Kolkata, CAT Percentile is 80.51
MAT and CMAT percentiles are 99.57 and 93.27
    Thank You

    • Jit, your CMAT percentile suggests that you can get a CAT score in the region of 90%ile which would leaf you too the next level of institutes and hence I would suggest joining cognizant and a retake of MBA entrances.

  14. Respected sir,

i am intersted in finance and I am from delhi. i have two options till now as per the result.

    IISWBM (kolkata) and BIMTECH, noida

    kindly suggest …

    regards
    Nitin bhardwaj

  15. Hi GP Sir,

I have converted XIMB BM and Great Lakes PGPM 1 year..Which college should I opt for??

I have a work ex of 42 months in IT sector in a PSU..Please advise me.

    Regards
    Himanshu Dhamija

    • Himanshu, while XIMB would be rated higher you can consider joining GL PGPM since it usually provides good placements in IT and will save you a year. However if you plan to go back and work in a PSU then XIMB should be preferred as PGPM is not considered equivalent to PGDM or a PG degree.

      • Hi GP Sir,

Whether I will get a chance to work in a PSU after my MBA is not in my hand at this point of time, but I would like to know whether such high work ex would not act as a deterrent in acquiring SIPs and hence placements from XIMB?? I am actually more inclined to ximb because of its brand value but am equally circumspect about my high work ex..Kindly enlighten me on this..Thanxx

  16. Dear Sir,

Not a correct location to put this post but I found this option in this only. I read your 2012 post about how you get to IIM B and get inspired everytime. I am in dilemma and need help. To cut it short my profile is X- 81.53, XII – 66.8 (however, i did clear IIT JEE and done b tech from ISM, English writing ability issue for low in 12th). I have exp of 3 years already and getting an admit from IMT G (PGDM). My heart says I should go for a drop and aim higher but mind says go for IMT. Advice me on this sir.

    Kartik

    • Kartik, go for a retake if you are confident of at least a 97%ile in CAT/XAT as a lower score is likely to give you the same level of institutes as IMTG.
The other reason for a retake can be GMAT leading to ISB Hyderabad with Great Lakes Chennai as a back up option. Call me at 9811155160 any day in the evening if you need to discuss this further.

  17. Sir, calls converted from Nirma and LBSIM. Which one should I go for?
Secondly, can you please tell me that was the CAT percentile (not the shortlist for GD-PI percentile, but the final selection percentile) for final PGDM and PGDM-IB selection in KJ Somaiya last year?
    Thank you.

    • Rahul, the two institutes are almost at the same level with LBSIM being slightly ahead. If you are from Delhi then go for LBS and if from Gujarat then oo for Nirma.

  18. Sir please suggest which one to go for as I have converted gim aand siib Sir please guide me because in pagalguy and every where even alumni are saying that at siib placements have not been very good And that it’s placement report is also not correct. SIR should I go for gim since everyone is saying that it is much better than siib and also ranked above.

I am a fresher in the last year of my bcom graduation.

  19. Sir,
I’ve got admission offers from GIM, IMT G(marketing) and LBSIM.
I want to get into consulting or analytics. Which one should be my best option? I am concerned about the batch size of IMT G.
I have 20 months of work ex in IT mnc.

    • Priyam, IMT G is the best options among these three. It is the highest ranked and also has the best placement record. Placement is an issue only for the bottom 1/3rd who do not get very good placement in IMT G and end upo with a package of 7-8 lakh pa.

      • Sir,
Between imi delhi and imt ghaziabad which one will be the better choice?
I have converted imt ghaziabad marketing..I’m ultimately looking to get into consulting or analytics

        • Priyam, my preference is for IMT G but many people are uncomfortable with its batch size. The bottom 200 odd students in IMT G typically has a lower level of placements (Rs 7-8 lakh pa) but the top 200 odd would be at over Rs 12 lakh pa.

  20. Sir I have been practicing quants on test gym and always get stuck at advanced level questions so is it sufficient to be proficient till intermediate level to score 99% in CAT or should I practice more to clear advanced level questions?
    Thanks in advance sir.

    • Nishant, advanced level would be my target for a 99%ile and with about 8 months to CAT you have sufficient time to improve.

  21. Sir, can you PLEASE throw some light on the recently started mba program of IIEST(previous BENGAL ENGINEERING AND SCIENCE UNIVERSITY).. which has been one of the most premiere engineering universities in India..
