The League of Not So Ordinary B Schools

The results of almost all top B schools are now out. The schools to reckon with have declared their lists of “The Chosen One”.  In my last article Manzilein Aur Bhi Hain – SSC CGL I had discussed an alternate option and had also mentioned that not more than 200 B Schools are worth joining. In the last few days and several times last year students who did not make it to the top institutes have asked me to compare what I call “The League of Not So Ordinary B Schools Many students who have to do an MBA this year have also asked me to recommend B schools they can apply to. .” With limited information available, an educated guess is all I could afford.

In my estimate, the worth of a B school can be gauged by its placement record since it is the outcome of good processes. I do not have the competence to evaluate the faculty or all the processes that go into making a good B school but I can definitely measure its quantifiable output. The purpose of any B school is to provide industry with trained manpower and hence any institute which has the confidence of the industry will have good placements.

The task before us hence was to identify, out of the 4000+ B schools, the institutes that are not very well known but provide good placements Many B schools partner CL and this year we at CL have requested our partner institutes to submit their detailed placements data. Over the next few weeks, we’ll share some of the insights that we have gained through this exercise. The goal is to help you make an educated career choice.

This series is being anchored by Ms. Niharika Mittal, an alumnus of IIM Lucknow. She has the unenviable task of sifting through the data provided by the B schools verify it and if found correct to present it to you for consideration. The first article of this series will be published shortly.

** Partner B schools are advertising on CL Media platforms.

All the best

Should I go for it or try next year considering low academic.

  2. I scored 96.52%ile in Cat 2017 but could not convert any of the new IIM. The best call I have is of IMI Delhi. I graduated in MAY but with a b.com degree it will be hard to get a job which pays above 20k a month. ROI for me is a big factor and with the fees of 19 lakh and allegedly inflated average package, I am really skeptical of the return. What should I do?
    1. Join imi.
    2. Join some baby iim.
    3. Get any job, go for 18.
    4. Clear CFA level 1 in Dec, gain work experience meanwhile and attempt cat 19?

    Profile: 10/12/grads : 89/89/73
I have also cleared one group in CS executive. Though interested in finance, so would go for cfa.

    • It would be helpful if you could share your class 10, 12 and grad marks. However, it seems if you set your focus right you can get a better score in CAT 18.

  3. Sir, I am presently out of a job. Only Converted the call from MISB BOCCONI. Is it worth joining ? I am interested in operations management. Or should I look for a job and try next year. I dropped a year for CAT Preparation.

    • Fore is better than LBSIM and SRCC GBO any day! Only go for SRCC GBO if you have specific interest in the course. As for your other query, it depends on your personal goals! If you’re sure of getting a good percentile next year, then get relevant work experience first..

  4. Sir I’m confused between SIESCOMS and ITM NM. Could you tell me which college is better in terms of placements, curriculum for human resources?

    • Sam, both are similar institutes and its purely a choice of location. Since you are from Delhi you might prefer BIMTECH Noida

    • Ankur, ideally you should take up a job if you dont have one and aim for better B-schools in CAT 2017. But, out of the two it should be Fore IB.

  5. Sir, I have converted BIMM, Pune and have attended gd/pi for XIME.
If I convert XIME too, which would be a better choice?
Considering ROI, placements and growth prospects?

    • Rajit, if this was your first CAT/ XAT attempt and you have decent past academic records (80-85+) then, I suggest you take the exams again and aim for a better college.

    • AG, GFM (PGP) from National Stock Exchange is a one of its kind. This is first time such course is introduced in India. The regulatory certifications will be provided from the US, Singapore and India. This is a very new course. So enough data in not available to comment upon it. However, if you are inclined towards doing an MBA then you should consider top and pre-established B-schools and courses.

  6. Hi Sir, What would be the order of preference among IMT G IIM Nagpur, IIM Visakapatnam and IIM Sirmaur…..how good would be the baby IIM’s

    Thanks

    • Nitant, IIM Vizag would be the best choice out of all these institutes since its mentor institute is IIM Bangalore. It will add to your profile.

  7. Xth- 86%

Sir, What good colleges can I apply for? I am really confused!!

  8. I have been selected for MISB Bocconi, IBS Hyderabad, BIMTECH core, and KJ Somaiya RM. Waitlisted for KJ Somaiya FS at wl 56. Which one should I go for??? I am intrested in finance, and chances of FS waitlist getting cleared are quite decent, as per the seniors. But it would get cleared by mid June, and by that time I wont be having any other offers in my hand. Please suggest. How is KJ Somaiya RM as compared to other offers in my hand right now??

    • Rahul, you have high chance of converting KJ Somaiya FS. It should be your first choice. KJ somiaya RM is a good option. However, BIMTECH would ideally be better than that.

  9. Sir, of BIMM and WE School Mumbai, which would be the better choice? Considering the fact that WE School means more loan and much more expenditure. Which will give me better ROI?

    • Abhishek, Welingkar is a better choice, as it has better placements and ROI. If you are interested to do MBA this year, then Welingkar should be considered. Otherwise, retake CAT and the other MBA exams and try to target better B schools.

      • Sir, between IMT Nagpur and WE PGDM Mumbai, which one would you recommend. I have a CA background (appearing finals) and am interested in finance specialisation. Please throw light on the batch size, campus life and prosects for finance candidates in both the institutes.
        Thanks in anticipation.

        • Anshu, it should be Welingkar out of the two. It has better placements, smaller batch size and better growth opportunity.

  10. Sir I’ve converted NLDALMIA PGDM , should I take it. My percentile in CET are 95.86….. I’m a Pune university candidate and willing to do finance.
    I’ve options
    1. NLD PGDM
    2. SIES MMS through ILS
    3. WE results yet to come
    Please help .thanks

  11. xth -79%

    Thank you

  12. Yes which will better among IBS Mumbai, MITSOB and ITM navi mumbai? N ITM has high fees so is it worth spending that amount?

  15. SPJAIN GMP or FORE or LBSIM ?

SPJAIN GMP – 6 month in mumbai + 6 month in IESEG Paris. MSc in International Business. Is it worthy ? Is MIB accepted in india ? We need to search for our own jobs there. What are the prospects of landing a job if we return back to india ?

    • Namit, if you are inclined towards BF & S, then IMI. Otherwise, TAPMI PGDM is ideally the better choice.

  19. Hello sir,

I have query. I have 24 mnths of work ex in IT..I want to pursue sales and marketing …i have a call fron gl pgpm and wl 113 in ximb ??? Where should i go if i convert ximb too…please help as I am totally confused … Also is there a chance of converting Ximb with wait list 113

  20. Sir between IMT Nagpur and Nmims Hyderabad which would be a better choice? I would like to pursue Marketing as a specialization. I also had ICFAI Hyderabad as an option but I have decided to take a refund. Please help me decide sir.

  21. Hi
I have decent acads , almost 2 years of work ex in an MNC and have scored 95 percentile in cat 2015
calls:SP jain, Nitie(PGDISEM) and IMT ghaziabad
converted:IMT ghaziabad (PGDM) , nitie inteview yet to happen
Please tell me if I should join IMT or not ?
And can you also tell me if should appear for Nitie (PGDISEM). Is it good enough?

    • Aane, NITIE should be preferred over IMT G. If you have converted SP Jain then SP Jain should be preffered above both of them.
In the worst case, considering your profile, you should not be very inclined towards IMT-G and should consider taking CAT again next year.

    • Trisha, IMT Nagpur is the preferred option. However, you should aim for better B-schools. Hence, it is advisable to retake CAT and the other MBA exams.

  22. Hello sir! Can you please help me in opting the best among them: Lal bahadur shastri delhi, FMS BHU, NIT TRICHY, KJ somaiya, great lakes PGDM.. I am really confused. Please help.

  23. IBS Mumbai ( not navi mumbai campus ) or ITM Mumbai or NL Dalmia Mumbai ? which is better ?

Also, Jaipuria Noida or NDIM Delhi ??

    PLz help sir ………

    • Suhana, it is a close call. As IBS is a brand, it should be preferred over the other options. Also the placement statistics are better than the others. However, if it was your first attempt, then you should be looking at CAT’16 and should try to crack better B-schools.

    • Tushar, IBS Hyderabad is ranked higher and could be preferred but if you are from Delhi/NCR then go for NDIM is likely to be a better option.

  24. Sir,

I am confused between Retail Management at Bimtech Noida or MBA(General) at IMT Hyderabad ?
    Please help!!

    Thanks.

    • Yashveer, the choice of specialization depends upon your interest. If you are interested in retail management then BIMTECH should be your choice, or if you want to pursue MBA( general) then IMT Hyderabad should be chosen. However, BIMTECH is likely to be better between these two.

  25. Hello Sir, I want to pursue MBA/PGDM in Marketing so which b-school to prefer among IMT Ngp/IMT Hyd Or IBS Hyd ??

  26. Sir,

I am a General category candidate and I scored 84percentile in CAT 2015. I applied only to TAPMI, got a call and converted it. Currently, I am working with TCS and have 17months of work experience here. I am extremely confused as to whether to join TAPMI or not. I want to take up Marketing, and have dreams of joining Software companies like Microsoft post MBA. Please suggest what I should do.

    • Payel, In case of a retake you will need a score of around 95%ile (in CAT/XAT) for the next level of institutes and if you can increase it to over 97%ile then some of the top 20 MBA institutes are on. If you think that this can be achieved then consider a retake else you can join TAPMI this year itself.
In case of a retake you should take GMAT also to open the option of ISB and other top institutes outside India.

      • Sir i have converted both sdmimd and ibs hyderabad.. Which one is better as ibs as a brand value that is why i am confused

        • Surabhi, IBS Hyderabad is well known for finance but has a batch size of around 1200 and has a higher fee than SDMIMD. If you are looking at options other than finance or are uncomfortable with the batch size/fee then you should prefer SDMIMD.

          • Sir what about pgdm finance from imt nagpur as I got selected for that too..Can you compare it with sdmimd and one more thing can I opt for finance as specialisation in future if I go for sdm?

          • Surabhi, SDMIMD will be preferable to IMT Nagpur also especially if you are from South. Finance specialization is available in SDMIMD.

          • Finance from imt nagpur and finance from sdmimd which one is better. I am from ranchi so the area doesn’t matter that much to me. Placement and industry exposure is the main thing.
Please help me our with this.

  27. Sir,
I converted the call of NMIMS Banglore and BIMTECH. Currently I am in the waiting list of NIRMA. Could you please rank these colleges in the desired order of preference? Also should I fill the form of welingkar Mumbai? My CAT percentile is 80.02 and I am currently pursuing economics honours(final year).

  28. sir, i have converted bimtech ( insurance businesses management) and xime (pgdm core)…
which 1 shall i opt for..in terms of job profile and salary offered… also future aspects of the same! please help..

  29. Hello Sir, I have converted IBS pune, IMT Nagpur and BIMM pune. Which college should I opt for? How is the roi for these colleges?

  30. Hi,

I have 3 yrs of work experience and have decent acads.
I have appeared for interviews for TAPMI (PGDM & BKFS), IMI-Kolkata, IMI-Delhi, NIRMA, FORE, XIM-B (HRM) and LBSIM, Delhi. Out of these, I have till now converted calls for TAPMI BKFS and IMI-Kolkata, however, I am not opting for these as I am waiting for the remaining results.
I am opting for a specialization in Finance. Can you please suggest which among the following should be my preferred choices:
    IMI Delhi
    FORE
    NIRMA
    LBS

    Thanks

  31. Hello Sir,

I have 2.5 yr work experience and decent acads. I have given the gd-pi for kjsom,tapmi,nm-b,sibm-b . I have converted nmims -bangalore and sibm-bangalore. Results awaited for tapmi and kjsom. I want to make a selection between nm-b and sibm-b as a backup(if i dont get kj and tapmi).I have 2 more days before which i have to decide my preference but i am still confused. I also request you to rank these 4 colleges and give me more insights on each of them. I am interested in pursuing finance or operations.

    • Rohan, we would suggest that your choice of preference should be KJS, TAPMI, SIBM-B and NM-B.

This is primarily because KJS has a good location advantage. Out of NM-B and SIBM-B, SIBM has a more controlled batch size.

      • Thank you for your prompt inputs last time around. I have converted KJS with rank 147 so i should be able to get PGDM(Core). My question is Would Brand Name play a huge role in the future as currently i have secured admission in NMIMS Bangalore. With NM-B getting better year on year, will it eclipse KJS in the near future? What would be a wise choice at this moment?

        • Rohan, NMIMs is an emerging institute and is yet to live up to its brand. Whereas KJs is an old and well established institute. You should go for KJs.

  32. Sir I am confused a lot..I get selected for NM B other calls I’ve are gim fore kjs iitroorkee lbsim my cat score is 86.56 what should I do…I have call from tapmi too but I’m not selected in first list what to do?

  33. Hello Sir.
I appeared for CAT’15 (first attempt) and secured 89 percentile. I have 3.5 years of exp in IT as software developer and earning 6.5 lakhs currently. I have got admission calls from Great lakes, chennai and NMIMS, Mumbai. Between, these I chose NM, but now I feel that to join NM, I would have to do a lot of investment (20-22 lakhs) and will be loosing out on my income for two years as well. My parents are currently not working. I would have to take the entire tuition fee(16.5 lakhs) as loan. Considering the low ROI, I am thinking of re-appearing for CAT and XAT. I feel that I can do much better but not feeling confident enough to take a final decision. What would you suggest? Also, Would work-ex of 4.5 years hinder my profile next year, during interviews?

    • SR, since this was your first attempt of CAT and also because you are earning a decent salary, NM Mumbai might not add too much value to your career. If you go for CAT again this year then should be looking at going for executive MBA programmes with your 4.5 years of work ex. Infact, even now you should have been inclined more towards the executive programmes rather than the 2-year programmes.

  34. Hi,
Myself got selected in IBS Hyderbad, MS Ramaiah, SDMIMD and having final interviews with Christ University, XIME & Wellengker. I am of B.Tech (E&C graduate) looking for Human Resource Management. Can you suggest order of preferences over the colleges for HR study?

  35. Hello Sir,

I have secured admission in NMIMS Mumbai. I also have calls from MDI, IIFT, IIM Shillong, New IIMs, IIT Bombay. I have around 3.5 years of work ex. Would it be wise to go for MBA from NMIMS in case I am not able to convert other calls?

    • Rahul, in case you don’t convert MDI, IIFT, then you should be looking at Executive MBA as you have a decent work ex of 3.5 years.

  36. Hi Sir,
I had calls from sibm p,scmhrd & nmims, mum. Unfortunately, i couldn’t convert any of them. Waitlisted@1220 for nm mum, sibm p (w/l-533).I already have 3 years of work ex. My acads aren’t that good.. X-83.6 Xll- 68.4 & BE-79.8..By feb 2017 I’ll have 4 years of work ex. My dillema is if i should write cat-16 or not..What are the colleges should i target keeping acads in mind? Does 4 years of work ex create hindrance in placements.. what are my chances as far as nmims mum is concerned?

    • Shashank, there’s slim chance of converting NMIMS Mumbai. However, it is suggested to take EXECUTIVE MBA. And this 4 years of experience would not have any negative impact in placements.

  37. Hello sir. I have done b.com hons from DU and have worked with KPMG for 1.5 years. I have converted both MICA and narsee monjee Mumbai. Which between them should I choose if I want to go into marketing field? Which college has better placements?

    • Phalguni, you should go for MICA as it is one of the premier institutes for the Marketing and Advertising courses.

  38. Can anyone suggest which is a better college among IBS Hyderabad, Wellingkar Mumbai & BIMM Pune. I have 3 years of work expereince and got selected in IBS Hyderabad already.

    • Debashish, since you have a decent work experience of 3 years, you should be aiming at Executive MBA. However, out of these Welingkar Mumbai is be

    • Chitrita, NDIM should be preferred over ISB&M. However, there are better B-schools as well. You should try for them.

  39. sir,
which one amongst ibs hyderabad and welingkar mumbai campus is better in terms of education as well as placements.
    Thank you

    • Karan, Welingkar Mumbai is better than IBS Hyderabad. However you should look forward for CAT 2016 and try to crack better B-schools.

  40. Sir plz rank them in order of preference
Sims, sibm hyd, ibs hyd, xime, imt nagpur and sir plz explain your preferenes

    • Niharika, out of all these IBS Hyd and XIME are the best ones primarily because they are older B-schools than the other two.

  41. Hello Boss
Thanks for providing valuable suggestions to the students .
Good day. Myself Varun, working for HCL Technologies for past 18 months.
    XAT score is 70.63
    MAT Score is 97.3.
    X- 81.8
    XII- 66.58
    Grad- 70%
I don’t want to do in Marketing.

What colleges should I apply ? I want to do this year itself
So for I have applied for BIMTECH and KJSM

    Many thanks in advance.

  42. Hi Sir,
I am confused between glim pgpm 1 yr gurgaon (not aicte approved) and fore pgdm. I have 3.5 yrs workex with Infosys. I have to do mba this year as my IT is not going very good and I dont have any hope of switching a company. Please advise.

    Thanks.

    • Shubham, out of the two BIMTECH BM would be a better option primarily becaus eof the locatio and since BIMTECH is a much older B-school.

    • Setu, would suggest you to work for another year and take CAT again next year. Great Lakes Chennai can certainly be considered.

  43. Hi Team CL/GP,

I got a CAT percentile of 81.75.Currently I am working for a prestigious Software company as a Software developer with a CTC of 8Lakhs and an experience of 32 months . I came across TAPMI recently. How is the college . Should I consider joining TAPMI?

Also my NMAT Score is 195 (82 percentile). I think this is now useless as the applications are closed.

My XAT score is 79 percentile. Is this anyways good.

I can try for next year’s CAT , but will loose 1 year that is my concern.

    Kindly give me a solution.

    thanks

    Thanks in advance !

    • Arpan, call from IIT Kanpur is possible. You can also apply to IIT Roorkee for that matter. KJ Somaiya is a good choice. You must consider taking MHCET and try to make it to JBIMS.

  46. Sir,

  50. Work : I am working in middle management (national role) having work ex in Sales of almost 20 yrs.
    Education : Chemistry Hons Graduate.
    Location : Mumbai
I want to deepen my understanding in General Mgmt & Marketing. Kindly suggest which course will be better for me & why …
    1. IIT Bombay SJMSOM EPM (1 yr)
    2. Welingkar’s PGDM (2 yrs)
Is there any other course offered by some good institute which would suit my requirement ? Kindly suggest.

    • Joy, with a 20 year work experience you should be looking at the 1 year program of IIMs for which you will need to take GMAT.

  51. Hello sir,

I have done BE (MECH) & currently having 3 years work experience.
I want to enroll for Distance MBA/PGDM in SCM or Operations.

I’m confused about following institutes :
    1) Welingkar
    2) NMIMS
    3) Symbiosis

Please guide me which one institute among above mentioned is the Best in terms of knowledge, future growth & value for money.

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards,
    Kalpesh P.

    • KP, NMIMS & Symbiosis should be preferred over Welingkar. While I am not sure which if these is better for SCM/Operations, between the two Symbiosis is better known and could be your option.

  52. HI Sir,

I currently have 2.5 yrs work ex.
    My academics are – 10th (77), 12 (70), Btech (7.1CPA)
Will academics affect my admission into Great Lakes PGPM course?
How much of a factor will it play? and what Gmat scores should i be targeting. Am planning to quit my job and prepare, is it advisable.? Thanks.

    • Vinoth, your acads are fine and will not adversely impact you in Great Lakes PGPM.
A GMAT score of 670+ would be sufficient for GL PGPM however you should target a 720+ to have a good chance of making it to ISB Hyderabad. You can prepare for GMAT along with your job but if your work schedule does not allow for the same then leaving the job can be considered.

  53. I got the call letter of Great Lakes Gurgaon for PGPM Energy. Everything’s good. Just I am worrying about not being approved by AICTE. What’s your take on this. Please help asap.
Is it that post PGPM we can’t do further studies as in certifications & more degrees?

    • Pulkit, I am not sure if GL Gurgaon PGPM Energy is AICTE approved, please check up with the institute. AICTE approved PGDM will mean that it will be considered equivalent to a degree and you will be considered as a PG for further studies and by government organisations/PSUs. However the industry normally does not worry about it and gives placements based on the quality of program and the students. Hence please verify the placement data from the current students before joining.

  54. Hello Sir could you please give me the details regarding Great Lakes, Gurgaon PGPM Energy Management course. I got selected for it so, so is it good to join?

  55. sir i have secured wellingkar banglore PGDM core and sies mms ..which one should i opt for as a fresher and interested in HR also i have secured 95.61 percentile in cet home university is mumbai ..which colleges i can hope to get in cap

  56. Hello sir,

I have been working in IT for more than two years and I had quit to appear for mba, currently I am not working.
I didnot score well though, my cet score is 88 % .
I have received call from Sies nerul and Welingkar bangalore, I am interested in HR . Since this is my last chance to get into an mba college kindly help me to make a descision as to which college to choose among the above two.

    Regards,
    Sudeshna das

    • Sudeshna, If you have to do an MBA then possibly SIES can be considered but these two institutes are not recommended for someone with a 2 year work ex in IT. It will be better for you to look at options in IT rather than join any of these two. Call me at 9811155160 in case you want to discuss the issue.

  57. I have the following three options:

    1. IIT kgp MHRM
    2.IMI PGDM
    3.IMT PGDM Finance.
My CAT percentile is 93 this year and have the same percentile last year

Please guide me on the best choice

    • Gaurav, If you are keen on HR the IIT Kgp is the best option but if you would like to keep your options open then IMI PGDM should be preferred.

  58. Hello sir whch would u suggest in terms of placements and international exposure
    among these –
    Woxen school of business hyderabad,
    Universal business school Mumbai,
    Myra school of business mysore,
    Ibs pune,
    itm navi mumbai.

    • Chirag, to the best of my knowledge these are all average B schools and should be considered only if you do not have any other option.

  59. Hello Sir,

I have got admission in PGDM (IB) at BIMTECH Noida and PGDM (Gen) at Welingkar Bangalore campus which one should I opt for I dont want to give another year for cat.

  60. Hi Sir,
    My background:
    10th : 92
    12th : 79
    Graduation (NSIT) : 72
2 Yrs work ex in a good IT company.

I scored 95.2%ile in CAT15 and based on that didn’t get calls from even the new iims or MDI. However I have secured admission into NMIMS Mumbai. I wanted to know whether i should join NMIMS or wait for another year and write CAT 16?

Also, is it advisable to have an additional year of experience in IT Sector (I’ve heard it does not help, not even inside b-school, rather it can be counter productive) solely for the purpose for getting admission into a better b-school, which may or may not happen considering my scores in 12th standard, even though I did my engineering from NSIT and did reasonably well there. I would like to add that I did prepare for CAT 15 but somehow my scores started falling as the final paper date crept closer. And because i could not perform well in CAT in spite of the preparation, I feel I have lost confidence in myself. Though I believe this will eventually fade away as soon as i start preparing again.
Kindly advise what should I do as soon as you can sir as I have only a week left to refund a year’s fees submitted at NMIMS.
    Thanks in advance

    • Pranav, Apologise for the delay.
A retake will make sense only if you are able to move to the next level of institutes which in your case would be top IIMs (ABCLIKS), XLRI, FMS, JBIMS, SP Jain, ISB Hyderabad, MDI, IIFT and IIT Mumbai. This would need a minimum score of 98%ile in CAT/XAT but at least half of these would need over 99%ile. If you are confident of this kind of score then you can consider a retake else you should join NMIMS.
Call me at 9811155160 any day in the evening in case you want to discuss the issue.

  61. Hi GP sir,
I will be having 3 years of experience in this september unfunfortunately I couldn’t convert any reputed b-schools last year and got rejectd by a very small margin.will I give a try this year or go for executive MBA?please suggest.

    • AB, you should go for both – take CAT/XAT for top IIMs/XL/FMS etc and also take GMAT for ISB Hyderabad.

  62. Hi Sir,

I have converted IMI Bhubaneswar and applied in Weschool e – busniess for both the campus (mumbai and bangalore). I have 2.5 year of Work EX in IT . Can you please suggest which one will be good for me ? Thanks in advance.

    • Deep, Welingkar Mumbai should be preferred over IMI Bbsr.
With a 2.5 year work experience in IT you should ideally go for a retake.

  63. Sir,
Please compare NMIMS-Bang(Avg package 9.5) vs Fore IB (Avg package 8.25)…i am desperate to do MBA this year i am jobless for almost an year?

    • Bunny, NMIMS Blr is a new institute and has progressed in the last few years but at present I would be inclined to go with FORE, however if you are from Bangalore/South India then NMIMS Blr will be preferable.

  64. sir,
i have given PGDBM interview for finance in NL Dalmiya and i am 27 in waiting list
are there any chances for my clearance ?

      • Both are equal for me because I am from MP. Location doesn’t matter a lot. Both has equal batch strength and fees has not much difference. So please guide me which will be comparatively better?

        • AK, go for Welingkar, you will have a better chance of getting a placement in North/West India. XIME will have more of South based options.

  65. hello sir, my final choice has come down to welingkar(pgdm) and great lakes (pgdm) converted. Which according to you is a better course?? Plz help
    Thank you in advance.

        • Ashish, go for Welingkar, the informal data on placements appears to be lower than what is given in the GLIM PGDM placement report. In case you know of someone in the institute (current or passed out student) and can confirm the placement data then GL should be preferred. If you are able to confirm the data please update me also.

  66. Hi,
I have 3 years work ex in family business and B.Tech from BITS Dubai with a 9.1 CGPA. Since I gave GMAT and not CAT, i had very limited options in india. I have converted IMI Delhi, IMT DCP and also applying for S P Jain Global MBA. Which one should i go for?

    • Priyanka, IMI will be the best one among these but ideally you should go for CAT/XAT this year and based on your GMAT score apply to ISB Hyderabad for June 2016 intake.

    • Priyuanka, IMI will be the best one but ideally you should go for CAT/XAT this year and based on your GMAT score apply to ISB Hyderabad for June 2016 intake.

  67. Sir, which college is better IBS Hyd or welingkar?
and my cet %tile is 87.71…..should i wait or go for IBS

  68. Hello sir,

I scored a overall percentile of 88.14 in CAT this year and have converted PGDM at IMI Delhi. Is it worth joining that college at this point of time considering career opportunities in terms of profiles offered?
    My profile is as follows:

    10th (CBSE) – 94.6%
    12th (CBSE) – 82%
Graduation (Btech mechanical from SRM University, Chennai) – 9.1 CGPA

Work Ex- Working with Mahindra & Mahindra in their Sales and Marketing dept for Truck and bus division for the past 10 months. (Graduated in 2014 only)

Should I go for IMI Delhi this year or wait for next year??

    Please help

    • Sanskar, since you have a good academic record and a good job you can consider a retake but go for it only if you think that you can increase your CAT score to over 95%ile (preferably 97%ile) then you should go for a retake else IMI is a good option.

      • Thank you sir for your valuable guidance. Can you please let me know the placement scenario at IMI Delhi, like the kind of profiles which are offered there. Are they good enough as compared to any other top 10 MBA college in India? Also, will an MBA degree from IMI Delhi hold relevance in my career for a long time (10-20 years) ??

        • Sanskar, please refer to the IMI Placement Report for 2015 batch for the placement scenario.
Given that IMI would be ranked around 35-40, its placements would be lower that that of the top 10 MBA institutes. An MBA degree can only give you a start and after 3-4 years it is only your work that determines the growth in your career.

  69. Hi Sir,

I am BE Mechanical(2009 batch) with a work ex of 4 years and 9 months sales and marketing of engineering products. I fully acknowledge Energy and Environment as a futuristic profile to grow in. Hence i am in final stages in confirmation of my admission in SIIB E&E.
I will have to apply for loan for the course. Therefore i need your guidance about how this stream will be viewed 2 years down the line?(For ROI purpose). How do you see the trend in placements at SIIB for this course specifically?

    Warm Regards,

    • Sagar, niche and sectoral programs have not done well in India and hence I am not very optimistic about this program. The median salary of SIIB E&E as per its placement report is Rs 6.25 lakh pa which may be less than what you could be getting at present. Also with almost a 5 year work experience it might be better for you to take GMAT and target the 1 year MBA program of ISB or the top IIMs.

  70. Hello sir, is it true that NL Dalmia is only well known for Finance and not a good option for Marketing? I have converted IMT Nagpur as well and I am confused which to go for as I reside in Mumbai and want to opt for Maketing specialisation but I have heard that NL Dalmia is not that great for marketing. Your views sir?

  71. My son has got IMT Hyderabad Finance and SIIB Intl Business. Which one should he take? Please advise.

    • Sandeep, my suggestion is to go for SIIB IB as it has a better placement record, also IMT Hyderabad is a new institute and will take a long time to establish itself.

  72. Hi Sir,
I have 3 yrs of IT exp and my annual package is 4.5 Lacs. I have secured 99.76 percentile in Feb CMAT 2015. Do I stand a chance in Sydenham, KJ Somaiya or Welingar through CAP rounds?
Is it worth doing MBA from KJ or Welingar for my profile?
If not can you suggest better options?
    Regards,
    Aashish.

    • Aashish, given your background you can consider only Sydenham and KJ Somaiyya. As a OMS candidate call from these two is difficult but not ruled out.

    • Shweta, my preference is for NM HR as it is an established program of a higher ranked institute while PGDM GL is a new one and will take time to establish. This assumes that you are comfortable specialising in HR.

  73. Hi Sir,
I have converted IMT Ghaziabad(Dubai campus program) and TAPMI and LBSIM. Which one should be preferred. I am a fresher from Computer science Engineering background with CAT %le 96.9.

    • Deepak, pick up a job and go for a retake, a 98%ile will lead you to the next level of institutes. Among the options mentioned by you the best is TAPMI.

  74. Sir, i m in wait list no -41, Institute of Management, Nirma University,Ahemdabad. What are the chances of getting selected?

  75. Sir I’m a BBA Graduate fresher.
    I have calls from
    Ibs hyd
    Imt hyd
    Bimtech noida (insurance course)
Which one should I pick from the 3?

I also have IFMR and Xime result awaited

  76. Hi Sir
I am a CL student. I have converted IMT-Nagpur for PGDM( Finance) and BIMM Pune. I’m a fresher with
    X- 92.17 %
    XII- 83 %
    B.com (Hons.) – 80%
    CAT- 74%ile
is these colleges worth considering? I have already dropped an year. I am also expecting a call from SRCC GBO. Or would it be advisable to take up a job and give CAT and other exams again?

    • Akshay, you should go for a retake if you can improve your CAT score to at least 85%ile (ideally 90%ile), in this case do pick up a job. Between IMT Nagpur and BIMM my preference is for IMT Nagpur.

  77. Sir, Going by your list I have preferred SITM over SCIT and IMT Nagpur. 3 years exp in IT , 8 month core manufacturing. Desperate to do MBA this year. Your views?

    • Pratham, SITM is fine if you are desperate to do an MBA thes year itself but not the others. Ideally go for a retake and also take GMAT to target ISB Hyderabad.

  78. Sir, I am working in TCS (1 yr). I have converted NMIMS Bangalore and SIIB (International Business). Is it worth joining this year..What would you suggest?

    • Srishti, SIIB IB can be considered for joining. Go for a retake if think that you can score of 98%ile in SNAP or over 95%iile in CAT/XAT.

    • Pankaj, the two institutes are almost at the same level hence , IBS is better known for finance but has a batch size of over 1000 while IMT Nagpur is higher ranked and better known for marketing. The fee differential is another way to decide on the institute.

  79. Sir,
I got admission call from IMT-Nagpur,but I am confused whether to join or not considering below points.
1.My work exp is 42 months.
2.I am working in a reputed steel plant with 6.72 package.
3.I am not satisfied with my job & very much eager to go for an MBA this year only.
4.I have a loyalty bond with my present company, for that I will be penalized of Rs. 2,00,000 if I leave my job before 01.07.2015 & classes will start at IMT-N in Jun’15.
5.I have not got any other calls.
    6.X-88,XII-88.3,BE-72,CAT-83

    Kindly help me.

    Subha

    • Subha, given your experience and current salary you may not be able improve significantly in terms of salary and roles with an MBA from IMT Nagpur. My suggestion is to continue with your job and go for a retake of CAT/XAT. Do take GMAT also since it will allow you to apply to 1 year program of ISB Hyderabad also. Great Lakes Chennai 1 year program (PGPM) can be your back up option.
While I do not support quitting a jib to prepare for MBA entrances but you can consider quitting after you complete your bond period which will allow you over 3 months for focussed preparation of CAT. In case you decide to take GMAT also then do it by July and then shift your focus exclusively to CAT.

  80. Sir,
I am selected for IMT-N and IBS-H for MBA in Finance. I have an experience of 03 years in IT company. In addition to this, my wait list no 4 in SITM-Pune that is likely to be confirmed. Please guide me which one is better for me for my future prospects.
    Ramnagina Prasad

  81. You are doing great job sir with your rich knowledge and experience . I have to choose college sir b/w sdmimd and imt nag ? I m frsher so for marketing which one i should choose with better ROI ?

    • Anmol. the two are at the same level and you could choose either of them however IMT Nagpur might be slightly better.

  82. Is Dual country Program at IMT-Ghazaiabad worth going for? I have heard very contrasting views on it! And i have got a waitlist of 155 at SIBM Bangalore! Are there any chances in you opinion?

    Thanks.

  83. Sir, how would you rate SDMIMD? What should be my order of preference between SDMIMD, XIME Bangalore and IMT Nagpur? My heart is set on Operations Management, so if you could please advise me on that basis.

    • Muntazir, these three are at par and will provide similar kind of placements hence you can go to ant one of them. However operations is the neglected specialisation and may not be very good in any of them. The best option is likely to be XIME Bangalore due to its location.

  84. Sir, with 3 yes of Work Ex in IT consulting, is it possible to get Placed in PSU/PSU Banks from KJ SOM / IMT G (PGDM FT)
Q1. what all PSU/ PSU banks comes.
    Q2. CTC
    Q3. Criteria

  85. Hi Sir,
I have a work ex of 3 yrs in IT Consulting, and a choice between IMT G and K J SOM. Is there any possibilty of getting placed in FMCG / General management roles(TAS, ABG, HUL etc) from any of these two colleges.
P.S. Not eager to continue in It sector.

    • Ritesh, between the two IMT G is more likely to provide you better placement opportunities but if you are in the bottom 1/3rd of the batch then you are likely to get average placement. FMCG/General Management roles are possible but TAS, ABG etc are unlikely from both the institutes.

  86. Sir, I have been interested in MICA since a very long time owing to its specialization in marketing and advertising. However I currently have a package of around 6lpa and the roi holds an important factor for me in choosing a B-school. Do you have any information regarding MICA and its placements? I have already seen last year’s placement report but wanted a properly researched view.

    • Aastha, ROI should be calculated over a longer term and not on the basis of the average salary on graduation. MICA and other top B school will help increase your salary in the shrt run but more importantly will provide opportunities that will boost your career, the growth is faster after MBA. Purely in financial terms MICA will cost you over Rs 13 lakh and has an average salary of around Rs 9 lakh on graduation.

  87. SIR,
which would be a better option, between IMT Ghaziabad and KJ somaiya for PGDM FT in terms of ROI, Pedagogy, Batch Size, internship etc.

    • Ritesh, IMT G would be my preference among these two. While IMT G has a bigger batch size but with 5 PGDM programs plus a MMS batch both have similar number of students. However KJ Somaiya is better on the fee front.

  88. Sir my CAT percentile is 86.56. I have 2.5 yrs if experience in steel sector. I am desperate to join an MBA clg this year itself. I have converted pgpm, chennai as of now. I have applied for Tapmi, K j Somaiya, IFMR and BIM Trichy. Sir i need your opinion on the order of preference of these institutes if i convert them.
I am really confused as a lot of people are questioning the validity of the 1 year coarse at glim in future.

    • Debaish, Great Lakes Chennai PGPM (1 year program) would be the best option among these. The 1 year program is not equivalent to PGDM so you will not be counted as a Post Graduate for government jobs or PhD but the industry treats the program as equivalent to MBA so placement and career growth in private sector is not a problem.
For my order of preference please refer to the post Jayein toh jayein kahaan 2015: Which Institute?

  89. NMIMS Mumbai or IIM Sillong ? (looking for Investment Mgt od I Banking profiles) NM is costly but can offer good roles. What do you suggest?

    • Shray, it is a decent B school but has a very big batch plus a high fee. If you are among the top 250-300 students then good placements are possible, the students at the lower end struggle.

  90. Sir my rank is 1410 and I’ve been shortlisted for NM Hyd and waitlisted for NM Blr. Are there any chances of converting it to NM BLR in the 2nd and 3rd merit lists? Also genetally, any idea about the last rank that converts NM Blr??

    • GD, while I do not have last years data for NM Bangalore, I think that you have a chance of making it to NM Bangalore.

  91. HELLO SIR,

    i have CAT- 80.4%le
    10th-87.08
    12th -82.29
    b.com completed in 2013 with CGPI 8.07
i belong to OBC and my father is from defence
    i have converted SIMS SITM
i have calls for newIIMs(but had grilling interview am not able to judge it) , NIRMA (yet to give) ,TAPMI (is in waiting list).
i have call from FORE IB ,LIBA and have filled NIBM as well and m goin to give MH CET also
but i am denied to go for FORE ( due to delhi)
from this options sir i m expecting IIMs…but apart from that which should be considered in terms of placement and exposure….please reply me soon sir…

    regards

    • Azmin, hopefully you will get into the new IIMs but if it does not happen then your order of preference should be TAPMI followed by LIBA, SITM and finally SIMS.

  92. Sir,I am a final year engineering student placed on ampus.
At this point is it preferable to join Somaiya or Xiss Ranchi or give another shot at CAT and Xat?
Also is Somaiya decent or simply average?

    • Neelanjan, if you have a decent job (plus a decent CAT score) and are confident of a score of around 95%ile in CAT then you should go for a retake.
If you have to join this year itself then KJ Somaiyya is fine (it is decent) but you should avoid XISS Ranchi.

  93. Do you know the conversion rate for international students to SIBM Pune and Bangalore? With a 10th & 12th grade aggregate of 90.8% and 88.2% respectively, a B.E CGPA of 6.3 and professional work exp of 21 months in the middle east do you think I have a shot at these schools?

    • Matt, while no data is available but I believe it would be similar to that of domestic students. With a good academic record (except graduation) and a 21 month work experience you have a good chance of making it to the final list. My suggestion is to restrict yourself to SIBM Pune and not consider Bangalore.

  94. Sir,
I got 88%ile in xat and got a call from xlri for both bm and hrm. How is that possible? Although my category is st, i thought there is no distinction between the categories? And sir, is bm from xlri worth it? Which iim can you equate it to? How is the placement?

    • Sonia, this is indeed surprising but since you have a call you should try your best to convert them because XLRI BM is among the top 5-6 institutes in India and would be at the level of IIM Lucknow and FMS. The placements are as good as the top IIMs.

        • Sonia, it is difficult but since you have a call I would not rule you out. A good performance in the Interview can cover up for your low GK score. Focus on your preparation and hopefully things will work out.

  95. I am confused between SIBM B and Myra School of business. I know SIBM B has a proven track record and better location but I am very impressed with the faculty line up and the teaching model at MYRA.
    Any advice?

    • Tanujit, these two institutes are at par and you could choose either of them. ITM Navi Mumabi will have the advantage of location but IBS Hyderabad is better known for finance.

  96. Hi,

I got 93%le overall in XAT 2015 and have call from Great Lakes. I have 4.6 years of IT experience. Do you think PGPM is a suitable course for me after such experience ? Please help.

    • Yogita, Ideally you should be looking at a 1 year program of ISB Hyderabad or IIMs but Great LAkes Chennai PGPM is a decent option.

  97. Hello Sir,
I am engineer and will complete my degree in 2015. I appeared for MBA exams this year and scored 220 in NMAT. I also have a job of 7.5 lakhs in a reputed company and I don’t have any hurry to pursue MBA. Moreover its the final placements that matter to me. So should I join NMIMS this year? will I get a job of above 10? or try to next year as I would have better idea and work ex? Please reply soon 🙂
    Thank You

    • Goyal, NMIMS will get you a job of 10+ but if you are confident of over 97%ile in CAT’15 then you should go for a retake. In case you decide to go for a retake you should still appear for the interview as it will be helpful for next year and do pick up a job.

  98. Sir, can you suggest among these institutes, in order of you preference…. MIB, MHROD, MFC, MBE, FMS-BHU, DMS-DTU, ISM, .
Also am confused what to take in FINANCE and HR :/ plzzz guide….

  99. sir, i have a cat percentile of 97.5, verbal – 99.23 and quant – 89.7. my academics are not so good, 12- 73, 10- 87, engineering-6.1 cgpa. which institutes can I expect to clear. Also among imt ghaziabad, mica and ximb which is better?

  100. Hi Sir,

I’ve got 72.85% in cat. My work-ex is of 42 months with a decent package.
Can you please suggect me good colleges that I can apply with this percentile.
    Thanks in Advance !!

    • Shruti, no good colleges are possible at you score. Suggest that you go for a retake of CAT and also take GMAT to open the option of 1 year MBA program of ISB and IIMs.

  101. I am asking this because for various reasons, I don’t like the idea of a student union managing placement processes. I feel that placement is an extremely important issue that must be under control of some matured adults and not some second year juveniles. It is not like other student led committees in bschools for extra-curriculars.

  102. Dear GP Sir,
I have a friend who had got an XIMB convert this year and left the bschool because he felt that placements were below par. He has no job but with 4+ years work-experience, he is considering appearing for GMAT and trying ISB.
Leaving aside my friend’s concerns, I want to question something. My friend told me that XIMB has a complete student managed placement system in place where the entire placement process is arranged entirely by student union with no senior officials in place to manage anything.
Kindly tell me if the placement of most Bschools follow this process of completely student union managed placement processes or it is the non top bschools that do so.
What do students in placement committees in Bschools do? What powers do they have? Can they disqualify someone from placements on their own whims or that kind of power rests with senior officials?

    • Shalimar, placement in most B schools is managed by students under the supervision of a faculty and XIMB is no different. The process is transparent and the rules apply to all students equally. The placement committee usually does not have the power to disqualify other students, such decisions are rare and taken by the faculty incharge of placements.

  103. I’ve recently completed 3rd year in B.Tech and I’ll be appearing for CAT 2014.My academic record so far has been as follows:
    X-95.2
    XII-74.6
B.Tech(at the end of third year)-59%
What should be my respective CAT and XAT percentiles so as to have a decent chance of securing admission in the following institutes:
    1.IIM-A,B
    2.FMS
    3.XLRI-J
    4.MDI
    5.SP Jain
    6.IIT-B & other top institutes.

    • Aviral, with 59% in graduation you will need almost 100%ile to get a call from IIM A and B. IIMC does not consider graduation marks and hence call is possible but it typically needs over 99.5%ile in CAT. For FMS and IIT Mumbai you should target over 99%ile. Almost all other top MBA institutes will be possible at 97-98%ile.

      • Thanks a lot sir!!
Just one more thing sir, when are final year students required to declare their graduation percentages to these colleges. Is the time limit relaxed for final year students?Because I might have a chance of improving the percentages in 7th & 8th semesters.

        • Aviral, you percentage at the time of filling the form is considered so you will not get an opportunity to improve your scores. However try and push your marks to above 60% in 6th semester exams.

  104. Hi Sir,
I have got admission into bim trichy. Date of joining is june 25. I hav 1.5 yrs of work experience in IT and passed out of college in 2011. But now im not working. I have only given cat and xat. But i really want to go abroad and do MBA or study in a premier bschool. Is it better to join bim trichy or go ahead and prepare for GMAT/ GRE

    Thanks,
    Banu

    • Sir i missed out mentioning my cat and xat score..
cat 80 xat 85 without preparation. please give your suggestion sir.

      • Dear Banu,

BIM Trichy claims average placement package of Rs. 8 lakhs p.a. (minimum of Rs. 6 lakhs p.a.). This may not give you a good boost over the salary that you were already earning. In case this is much higher than what you were already earning, then it makes sense for you to join BIM Trichy.

Normally, preparing for GMAT/GRE would be a better option than joining BIM Trichy. However, you are not working currently. Good b-schools that select candidates through GMAT/GRE typically look for at least 3 years of work experience. Further, it will be difficult for you to justify the drop year in your records. In case you wish to appear for GMAT/GRE, it is advisable that you take up a job and prepare simultaneously. Alternatively, you can consider joining BIM Trichy.

    Selected in IMM and BIMTECH
    Fresh graduate no work ex
    Please guide me sir.

  106. Sir i scored 97.8 %ile in cat. I am a 2013 passout with no job in hand. I converted FMS-BHU, IMI( Banking and insurance), IMT(DCP) and waitlisted at IIM-raipur(2000+) and kashipur (though the chances of convert looks very slim). What would you suggest? As i have to do MBA this year only.

Also can you please throw some light on the PGP course of IIM Indore-Mumbai campus and UAE campus. Are they worth joining?
How good is their placement ?

    • Piyush, IMI (B & I) or IMT-DCP are your best options. DCP is expensive but is a good program and will provide good placements.
However, if possible, pick up a job (part time will also do) and go for a retake. You do MBA only once and compromising on the institute does not make sense.
You should apply to IIM Indore Mumbai campus as informal reports are suggesting decent placements. If you make it to any of the new IIMs then you should join and not go for a retake.

  107. Sir,
I have a waitlist in Welingkar-Bangalore campus and have converted IBS Hyderabad. Kindly rate these colleges and advice me which one would be preferable to join. I need to go for finance and have 3 years work experience in IT.

    • Panchkula, with a 3 year work experience I do not think you should be considering these two institutes. Suggest that you go for a retake of CAT/XAT, also consider GMAT for 1 year MBA programs of ISB and a few IIMs.

  108. sir,
I have conversions from nit trichy and imi(banking and insurance) which one is better. Is imi(b&i) considerable over nit trichy as b&i is a new program and with 15l course fee.

    • Vamsi, being a new course with restricted placement opportunities, my expectation is that IMI (B&I) is likely to have a average salary lower by 15-20% as compared to the PGDM program.
I do not have any idea of the placements of NIT Trichy, hence cannot comment on it.

  109. Sir, which one to choose IIT Roorkee or BIM Trichy. I have 1 year experience with IT background, please suggest.

  110. sir i have completed my B.B.A(finance) from pune university 2014 my 6th semester result is yet to be declared and my aggregate till 5th sem is 75.33%…and my 10th percentage is 68.8% and 12th’s percentage is 71.1%…i gave mba cet (Maharashtra) and cmat..in MBA cet Maharashtra i scored 84.87 percentile and i am a domicile candidate(maharashtrian candidate type A)..and in cmat feb 2014 i scored 139 and my all over india rank is 8664..my home university is pune university..sir do i have any chance to get PUMBA, pune..and what about mumbai colleges, can u suggest me some good colleges..i want to do my post graduation in finance..

  111. Sir,

Really confused about what to do. Didnt perform well in CAT this year.i.e. 2013. Graduation completed this month itself. Want to attempt cat this year too,but i do not have a job in hand and i don’t even want to work right now. Non-engineer. Decent acads in college and school. Parents are a bit skeptic about just sitting at home ans studying for an year. Got call from ITM-NM but did not attend gd .

Please advise me what could be the next option for me. Do i consider taking admission into any B school this year? Or do i retake CAT?

    Please reply asap,really worried.
P.S. Will a gap year really matter? Will it help me achieve a good score?

    • Neha, I am in agreement with your parent regarding sitting at home for preparation. A gap year is easy to explain but a 2 year gap is difficult to justify. If a full time job is not possible try for a part time job or look at working with a NGO. sitting at home can at time be frustrating and can adversely impact your preparation. A job/work of any kind is a good distraction.
I will not suggest joining a below average B school this year and recommend retake of CAT/XAT/SNAP etc and also suggest that you take Bank recruitment test (SBI, & IBPS) and also SSC CGLE as they will be your backup options.

    • Vishal, IMI banking and Insurance is my preference over Great Lakes PGDM which will take a long time to establish itself. IMI B&I is also a new program but IMI is better known for 2 year programs and is likely to provide better placements than GL PGDM.

  112. Sir, I have converted IMT Nagpur ,IBS Hyderabad and XIME Kochi. I appeared the GD PI of Welingkar Mumbai and I am hopeful of converting it as well. I am also expecting call from RGIPT(MBA in petroleum management). But sir I am in a mix now…….Please tell me which is better among Welingkar Mumbai , IMT Nagpur and RGIPT? Please reply me soon.
    Sir I am a B.Tech(Electrical)………..fresher.

    • Soham, I do not have sufficient information on placements of RGIPT to comment. Among your other options Welingkar PGDM/MMS and IMT Nagpur should be preferred over others.

      • Thank You sir for your advice. It helped me a lot.But sir I am still confused .I already asked for the repayment of admission fee from IMT Nagpur.I got call form RGIPT and my GD PI for Welingkar went well. But sir I have to make a choice among these two…….RGIPT being an Institute of National Importance Have an edge over Welingkar? Which one should I consider? Please reply sir.

        • Soham, I too have felt that RGIPT is a good bet but in the absence of placement data am unable to recommend it. In case you have some information please share it with me.

  113. Dear GP Sir,
I am having around 45 months of work-experience in Cognizant Technology Solutions in ITES domain. I appeared for CAT-2014 (65 percentile) and XAT (82 percentile). I have recently converted Suryadatta,Pune, Amity and BIMTECH. Kindly mention your preferences. I was thinking Suryadatta has a huge location advantage being in Pune. Kindly give your suggestions sir.

    • Gitam, While BIMTECH is the best among these three, I do not think that with a 45 month work experience in CTZ you should be considering any of these institutes. You might be better off with a career in IT/ITES.

      • Sir,
But I am keen to do a MBA (in IT) in my career path as I feel it will make my CV look better and more diverse. Should I then go for a retake next year and try for top 20 institutes?

        • Gitam, yes go for a retake and also appear for GMAT and target the 1 yerar MBA programs of ISB and other good MBA institutes.

  114. Sir, please compare NMIMS B and SIBM B for me. I have calls from both. Which is better and why? Thanks a lot. 🙂

    • Divya, NMIMS and SIBM are at par in almost all aspects. While NMIMS has a location advantage and provides a greater variety in terms of companies/profiles it also has a significantly bigger batch size and a higher fee. Choose the one that you are more comfortable with.

  115. sir, i have converted lbsim pgdm and gim pgdm. which one to choose given that i live in delhi, i am yet to make my mind about specialization (marketing /finance)?
PS-i am an engineer, no work ex, completed my degree last year. the fee difference is not a big concern. overall grooming and placement is what i value more.
Sir please give a detailed answer, and as early as possible (23th may is last date to pay gim fee).

  116. SIR, I WANT TO KNOW TO KNOW THAT WHERE WOULD U RATE PGDM FINANCE OGF LBSIM IN COMPARISON TO PGDM GENERAL OF LBSIM….LIKE IF GENERAL IS RATED 10 ON A SCALE OF 10 THEN WHERE WOULD U RATE PGDM FINANCE?? AND PLUS WHERE DO U RATE THIS CLG>>??

    • Zuhaib, both programs of LBSIM are at par. The advantage of PGDM is that you can choose your area of specialisation. LBS is at par with FORE, LIBA.

  117. Sir,
I have converted NITIE-PGDIE which is its flagship course and takes admit via GATE. I also have IIM U convert as of now. Which one should I consider?

    • Abhinav, NITIE IE program is almost a MBA Operations/Systems and should be preferred over IIM Udaipur but only if you are keen on specialising in Operations/Systems but if you would like to keep your options open or would like to go for Finance or Marketing then you should go for IIM Udaipur.

  118. sir, my profile is
    10th-55%
    12th-74%
    grad-b.com(H) from du-61%
    cat-92.46 percentile
completed graduation in 2013 and have no work experience.
sir, is lbsim pgdm finance is a good option. where do u rate this clg and program..?? is it wise to join this clg??

  119. Sir which college should i join BIMTECH Greater Noida or IIFM Bhopal with 87 percentile in CAT and no work experience…. and what will be the career options after IIFM..

    • Amrita, the PGDFM of IIFM is a variant of Rural Management or ABM programs with placements in the Development agencies, Project finance, Micro finance, Consultancies, NGOs and Agro/ Industries. Its average/median salary will be in the region of Rs 6-7 lakh pa with about a third of the batch above Rs 7 lakh pa.
BIMTECH on the other hand is a regular MBA program with a similar salary range. However the cost of MBA from BIMTECH is likely to be twice of IIFM.
My suggestion is to go for IIFM since it is likely to provide better career opportunities in the long run.

  120. I am a BA fresher with excellent acads and extra curriculars.
I had appeared only for the XAT this year and scored 82.32. Applied to Welingkar and IFMR. Converted IFMR, but did not take admission. Appeared for Welingkar GDPI and will quite possibly convert it too.
Should I stick out another year for CAT 14 or join Welingkar (if I do get in)?

  121. sir, cat 95.5 frehser
    10th 80
    12 84
    b.tech70
have a job in tcs joining in octuber 14
    converted iit roorkee
    gim
    nirma mba
plesase suggest what to do.and do rank these colleges

    • Adarsh, if you are confident of increasing your CAT score to at least 97%ile then start preparing for CAT’14 and join TCS in Oct, if not then go for IIT Roorkee which is the best (by a significant margin) among the institutes mentioned by you.

  122. Hi,
my cet score is 98.46 %ile, I’m open category HU student, I wanna do MBA in finance. I have 18 months IT experience.
    1. Can I expect KJ, Welingkar MMS at this score?
    2. How is finance placement at Welingkar? what is avg package?
    3. Is NL Dalmia finance better than Welingkar Mumbai finance?

Pls reply soon, thanks in advance.

    • Abhishek, at 98.46%ile KJ Somaiya and Welingkar MMS are unlikely for you. Given your work experience it may not be worth while joining Welingkar and NL Dalmia. The average CTC at Weliingkar is likely to be around Rs 6.5 lakh pa while in NL Dalmia is will be around 4.5 lakh pa.

    • Zuhaib, apologise for the delay needed to check data of NIBM. LBSIM will be preferable to NIBM Pune.

  123. Dear GP sir,
I have a work-experience of around 3.6 years in the IT sector but I feel I want to o for finance profile post MBA. I have heard that changing sectors in most Bschools is impossible. Kindly tell me if this is so and what needs to be done to make up for this. I don’t want to ruin my life because of my past background.

    • Rohan, Changing sectors after MBA to other areas including finance is normal after MBA but you may not get full credit for your past work experience.

      • Sir,
Does this mean I won’t be given initial salary that takes into account my years of work-ex? Sir, but if I in any case want to change my life track and history, why is it really harmful if my history is not looked at with full consideration?

  124. sir, my profile is
    10th-55%
    12th-74%
    grad-b.com(H) from du-61%
    cat-92.46 percentile
completed graduation in 2013 and have no work experience.
i wanted to know which college is better for me lbsim finance, nibm pune, bimtech tech, xime banglore or imt dcp. i have all convert except nibm pune as gdpi is on 3rd may. pls help me on this

    • Zuhaib, LBSIM is likely to be the best option among the calls that you have converted. While DCP is a good program it is expensive and unless you are among the top 1/3 of the batch at IMT the ROI will be low. If however money is not an issue you can consider DCP.
Go for the NIBM Pune interview and let us discuss once you get a final call.

    • shankaradi, IBS hyderabad BBA is average and not something that you should go out of your way for. Some of the BBA programs that are considered good are Integrated Program in Management (IPM) of IIM Indore which is a 5 year BBA+MBA program, BMS of Delhi University, Symbiosis University Pune, NMIMS Mumbai and Christ College Bangalore.

  125. Sir between IFMR and XIMB (HR)…..which B-school should be preferred. I am a Btech graduate with no job experience. I have no problem in specializing in either finance or HR ,also considering the fact that XIMB has increased their HRM seats to 120 from 60.Which b-school should i opt for considering salaries and future growth prospects ???

    • Sujith, since you are open to both HR and Finance hence you should go for the higher ranked institute which is XIMB by a margin. XIMB will be able to manage placements for the increased seats however it will be prudent to ensure that you are among the top half of the batch.

  126. Sir i converted IMT DCP and waitlisted at BIM Trichy .. Considering i covert BIM, which college should i opt for? Also, I am a fresher-Which college would give me better placement opportunities

    • Arun, BIM Trichy should be preferred over DCP due to its significantly smaller batch size and lower fee. IMT G will provide better placement opportunities but BIM Trichy is also good and the gap in fee does not justify the marginally better placements of IMT. Also in IMT if you are not among the top 2/3rd of the batch then you are likely to struggle for a placement.

  127. GP Sir,
I have completed b.com in 2012 with 63%. I have to do MBA this year itself. Scored 83%ile in XAT and 225 and 200 in two CMATs. Apperared for GDPIs in NMIMS, GIM, KJ but could not clear NMIMS and GIM. In KJ Somaiya, I am Ranked 1082 for couselling which is probably a good rank for converting PGDM – RM and PGDM – Communications but I applied only in PGDM Core and it is impossible to convert it at such a Rank. What should I do now so that they consider me for PGDM – RM? Is it possible? And shall I apply for NL Dalmia? Any other colleges that I can fill now…

    • Yash, while I do not think that it is possible, you can request KJ Somaiya to consider you for the other programs. NL Dalmia and SIES are possible but are below the level of someone with your calls. Are you working?

      • Yes, I have been working in family business as Business Co-ordinator since 14 months. If I don’t get a good college this year, I might consider moving to Mumbai to work for 6-8 months in Marketing and re-appear. Or should I fill NL Dalmia and take up if converted? It has already been two years since I graduated and being a commerce graduate, I don’t get good job opportunities anywhere..

        • YAsh, suggest that you give one more shot to CAT/XAT/NMAT/SNAP. NL Dalmia is unlikely to provide a of more than 5 lakh pa. Since you had calls from NMIMS, KJ Somaiya, GIM a slightly better written score along with the extra work experience could get you into higher level colleges.

  128. Hello Sir…. 3 years work ex in Oil and gas… B.Tech in Petroleum- 70+; X & XII- 80+

Converted TAPMI and KJ SOM(PGDM Core- Rank is 97)

But now i am confused about which institute to join… KJ has lower fee, location advantage… TAPMI better placements (some international placements also)…. I am not 100% confident about joining any of these B-schools.. As the loans are easily available … fee is not a concern and i dont want it to be the deciding factor…

So, how can i decide between these colleges??? i mean how to gauge the performance and quality of academics and faculties of both of these institutes??? Plz help me sir.. in selecting the better one—— KJ or TAPMI???

    • Mohit, given your 3 year work experience TAPMI should be preferred due to its better placement opportunities. Lateral placements are more likely at TAPMI.

    • Saransh, IMT G and IMI are both good institutes and you should choose the one that you are more comfortable with as both will provide good placement opportunities. While IMTG it is better known for marketing it is good in finance also.
IMTG and IMI have similar average salaries but IMT G has a batch size of 600 (including DCP) and the bottom 1/3rd struggle for placements (Rs 7-9 lakh pa), IMI on the other hand has a smaller batch (around 300 including HR and Banking & Insurance) but is ranked lower.

  129. converted:
    – lbsim pgdm
    dse merit no. – 210
    waitlisted:
    -imi pgdm 495
    -imi b/i 74
    -imi hr 78

    results awaiting :
    -kj somaiya pgdm
    -iit roorkee
    -new iim
    -2nd list of gim pgdm

sir, can you please rank each of them so that i have clear frame of mind if i convert any college who kept me in waitlist or whose results i am still waiting for.?

    • Arun, my order of preference in these programs/institutes is:
New IIMs, IIT Roorkee, IMI PGDM, GIM, KJ Somaiya PGDM, LBSIM PGDM, IMI HR, MIB, FORE IB, IMI BI, MHORD.

  130. Hi Sir,

I have more the 3.5 years of experience in IT and earning 4.5 LPA.
There is no growth for me in my current company.
I want to switch my career .
    I got 90.98 percentile in CAT 2013.
I have converted the call from LBSIM, DSM-DTU, waiting for KJ Somaiya, UBS, Bits Pilani, Nit Trichy results.
I am hoping to convert call from all colleges.
I don’t want to spend more than 10 Lakh that’s why I didn’t apply for IMI Delhi, IMT Ghaziabad, Fore.
Kindly advise me which college should I choose.
Is it wise decision to do MBA from these colleges in long term.

    • Haider, KJ Somaiya followed by LBSIM are the preferred colleges. DSM DTU has low fee but it is new and yet to establish itself o not recommended at present.

      • I got offer from kirlosker, ibs Gurgaon, itm, mit sob pune where should I prefer to take admission and sir I am waitlisted general candidate in nit Calicut (50th position overall,26th in general candidates) what are the chances to get admission in nit

        • Amar, ITM Navi Mumabi is possibly the best among these options. You should be able to make it to NIT Calicut but do check the placements before deciding to join.

          • sir I got itm Bangalore, as per cl ranking kirlosker and itm navi Mumbai are in same cluster,is kirlosker worth joining, sir I got 84.87 percentile in mahcet oms candidate can I get any decent college if yes can you name some

          • Amar, ITM Bangalore and Kirloskar are both avoidable. Unfortunately for an OMS candidate no decent institute is possible at 85%ile in CET.

  131. Dear GP sir,

Sir, I have converted BIMM Pune Executive Batch and XIME Bangalore. Awaiting for the GDPI Process of Welingkar Mumbai and N L Dalmia.. I would like to opt Finance as my specialisation, as I have 3yr work ex in banking domain.
Sir, i am a student of CL, would really like to hear from you soon as I have to book my sit ASAP.
Look forward for your reply. Thanks

    • Dimple, BIMM is avoidable but you can consider XIME Bangalore. NL Dalmia can be ignored as it is significantly lower than XIME Bangalore. Welingkar PGDM/MMS in Mumbai can be considered but not its other programs or the Bangalore campus.
What is your current salary and what were your CAT/XAT scores?

      • Thankyou for your reply Sir! Well, my last withdrawn salary was 4 lacs p.a. CAT score is 70%ile and XAT- not appeared..Sir my concern is I require Finance as my specialisation, and a bit skeptical if I choose XIME Bangalore? BIMM is out of my list now as I visited the campus yesterday and got negative views.. How do I rate XIME Bangalore,NL Dalmia and Welingkar Core PGDM if I want to opt finance as my specialisation?

        • Dimple, Welingkar Mumbai PGDM is possibly the best option for you primarily because of the location followed by XIME Bangalore. NL Dalmia is not recommended as its average salary is around Rs 4.5-5 lakh pa.

  132. Sir, I have been waitlisted for BIM trichy. My waitlist is 69. I have converted TAPMI. I am also waitlisted for LIBA. K J Somaiya results will be out on 25th of april. How would you order these B-Schools. BIM expects a response for participating in the waitlist. Shall I participate?

    • Vishakha, TAPMI is considered better than BIM but the gap is not much and since the two have similar average salary you can consider moving to BIM as it has a significantly lower fee than TAPMI. Do participate in the waitlist as it will give you time to decide.
The ranking of these institutes will be TAPMI, BIM, KJ Somaiya and finally LIBA.

      • Thanks a lot Sir. Will the batch size of TAPMI have an impact? I heard it will increase this year I am a little worried about that. Also TAPMI is starting a new course PGDM (Banking and financial services). Should it impact?

  133. Thank you so much sir!! It’s a great bonus for us that someone with your experience and expertise is guiding us!! I

  134. Sir i had always wanted to specialize in marketing and even at Kj Som i would have specialized in Marketing, so That makes MICA an automatic choice does nt it?

    • ananda, yes in this case MICA is an automatic choice. You can down the shutters 🙂 unless you have calls from the IIMs.

  135. Sir i have made it through to MICA Ahmedabad. I am aware of the course in communications and have no issues on that front. Can you tell me how good it is from a ROI perspective, my other choices are BIM Trichi and KJ Somaiya

    • ananda, if you are interested in marketing then you should go for MICA, it is among the best in the country for this area and has a decent ROI. However if you want to keep your specialisation options open then you could go to anyone of BIM and KJ Somaiya as they are at par in almost all aspects.

    • naman, IMI is a higher ranked institute but Banking & Insurance is likely to have restricted placement opportunities and hence LBSIM Finance could be preferred.

  136. I scored 68.6% in xth 64.4% in XII and 60% in graduation(bsc in hotel management and have experience of 2 year from working in mcdonald’s. I have score 82%ile in sept cmat 2013 and cat score is very less(in 50). I have converted kirloskar pune, ibs pune, imt nagpur.
please suggest any college should i choose among them.
I have no financial support so i have to take loan for studies. In that term what should I do.

    • manish, IMT Nagpur should be preferred over the other two. However do try to be among the top 1/3rd of the batch to ensure a top notch placement.

  137. sir even at 93 percentile in cat i was waitlisted for LIBA..my father said u don’t even convert liba then there is no chance for u to convert Even Nirma or simsr or great lakes pgdm..i feeling depressed .

  138. Hello Sir,

What is the average salary of NM-Hyd ..i have 2 years of IT experience, considering that what kind of package i should expect

  139. Sir please suggest the best.I have to make a choice between XIME,TAPMI jaipur,NIFT MFM programmes,FMS BHU,JAMIA HRM?placement wise which is better.I have a work experience of 2 yrs in a manufacturing industry.

    • Parth, TAPMI Jaipur and Jamia HRM can be ignored from this list. NIFT MFM is a specialised program and is likely to have restricted placement opportunities and hence low salary. You have to decide between XIME and FMS BHU, both have a median salary of around 6 lakh pa. FMS BHU has a low fee and XIME has a location advantage.

  140. Good evening sir,
Right now I just have one convert which is ibs mumbai.
I have alliance business school gd pi pending. What do u say sir should I give it?? Also sir I have to do mba this year.
And sir my other question is that, in case I and up getting selected for ibs hyderabad after the wait list moves, should I join hyd campus or stick to the mumbai one.

And sir my mhcet score is 75%ile.
    I don’t have good acads.

    Plz help sir.

    • Ryan, IBS Mumbai since you have to do an MBA this year itself however do enroll for distance learning MBA of IGNOU or any other university since IBS Mumbai is not a AICTE approved PGDM.
IBS Hyderabad is older and better known but as compared to Mumbai it has a significantly higher fee and batch size for a marginally better placement but is able to offer a degree.

      • Hello sir, I just received a mail from ximb stating that I have been selected for their global mba program. And need to pay approximately 26lakhs by 25th April.
        What to do sir??

  141. Hi Sir.
I’ve got 92 percent in both Xth and XIIth.
    Graduation 3.32CGPA/83%
I have an offer from great lakes PGDM based on my XAT score from last year- 89.6
This year’s CAT score is 83.
    What do you recommend?

  142. SIR, i have converted lbsim. and given gd/pi of FORE & BIM TRICHI . i m hopefull of converting these both also.
sir, of these three which one i should choose as Ist preference..??
ABOUT lbsim there are lots of demotivating talks going on FB regarding their placements..!!!
    plzz help.
    thank you, sir.

    • Ankit, BIM Trichy will be the best among these three and there is not much of a difference between LBSIM and FORE and you can go to either of them in case you do not make it to BIM Trichy.

      • SIR, i forgot to mention my acadmeic background.
        i am from roorkee.
        10th : 84%
        12th : 72.6%
presently, pursuing final(3rd) year of b.sc from dav, roorkee.
        gradz( upto 2 years) : 58%
sir, do still i should make bim, trichi as Ist preference bec some people preferred me to join lbsim (for reasons bim trichi is in south). personally i don’t have any problem to do mba from anywhere unless it ensure my future is safe.
plz sir, i want your opinion on this issue.
a big thanks for your valuable guidence. 🙂

  143. Sir , if i have to choose from tapmi , fore and dsm dtu by considering Placement and ROI equally important , then which college i should go for?? Plz help ..
Also , plz tell whether dsm dtu is descent in terms of placement as it is a newly open .

    • Akash, DSM DTU has poor placements and should not be considered despite its low fee. TAPMI will be my preference over FORE as it is likely to provide you with better placement opportunities.

  144. hello sir
sir i finally converted a decent college LBSIM pgdm general . i am awaiting some more results but meanwhile wanted to know that how do you rate MIB of DSE and Banking and Insurance of IMI in comparison to lbsim pgdm general.
it would be great if you give the reasons for your choice.

    • Arun, while IMI is a strong name and ranked higher than LBSIM, its Banking and Insurance is likely to have restricted placement opportunities. The average salary of Banking and Insurance is likely to be about 15-20% lower than that of PGDM and hence it may not be preferred over LBSIM PGDM.

  145. A S, for 2014-15 you should focus on both CAT also else you will miss out on many good institutes that take only CAT scores. A 94.6%ile in XAT should result in a good CAT score as well and now that you have time to prepare I am sure that your CAT performance will be significantly better. If your fundamentals are in place then you should not join a classroom program, but for practice and testing you should enroll for Test Series and Test Gym. You can also consider enrolling for Smart CAT Cracker to improve your test taking skills. Click here to enroll for any of these programs.

  146. GP sir my acads are- 10th-71 12th-72 B.COM-58 (D.U) MAT DEC- 90%ILE CMAT- 82%ILE WORKEX- 13 MONTHS
I have converted bimm (pgdm) and isbm pune nande campus and waiting for xime results, sir i have to do mba this year only, please tell me any colleges which i can try?? I have applied for BIMTECH (R.M) ,NIA AND SIESCOMS. Please suggest sme colleges according to my profile.

    • Ashish, if you can increase your CAT score to at least 90%ile then my suggestion will be to continue with your job and go for a retake of CAT/XAT/SNAP since you will then be able to make it to the next level of institutes. At your current score this are decent options.

  147. Sir,
I have converted IMT G(Mktg), XIMB BM . My profile is as follows :
    10th: 85.67
    12th: 76.33
    Grad: B.E. (computers): 84
Work ex- 2.3 years at Infosys
    CAT:-89.3
    XAT:-91.85
Which clg should I go for? I had two calls this year and I converted both.

    • Sambit, XIMB is a better option as compared to IMTG, it is ranked higher, has a smaller batch size, lower fee and provides comparable career opportunities.

  148. Dear sir,
I am a student of last yr CL weekday batch.
Sir I have final converts from:
    Siib e&e, ibs hyd, imt nag-marketing, ximb-rm.

What should I go for if I consider placements and salary offers as my priorities.
I intend to put my best in the course where ever I go.

    Plz help sir.

    • Praneeta, the salary at these institutes is similar but SIIB E&E and XIMB RM are sector specific programs which usually have limited placement opportunities and ICFAI Hyderabad is significantly lower in terms of reputation and ranking. My choice is IMT Nagpur which is a general management program and will allow you to choose your area of specialisation.

      • Thank you for the reply sir,
I was really apprehensive about Nagpur as a place of opportunity and sir by the time u replied, I missed the date to pay for imt Nagpur.

So sir now I have just three options as siib e&e , ximb rm, ibs hyd.

Also sir the mhcet result is out n I have scored 93.71%ile. I am also a Kashmiri migrant.

What should I expect now sir??

        • Praneeta, not an issue as the these institutes are at par. SIIB E&E should be your choice.
Estimating the cutoff for KM category is extremely difficult but if you make it to JBIMS or SIMSREE or KJ Somaiya then drop SIIB.

          • Thanks for the reply sir.
There is one prob. My cousin recently passed out of siib e&e and had a mechanical background with 3yrs work ex.
Though he got decently placed he told me that only 60% placements happen there. While at ximb rm it’s almost 100% with relatively similar salary offers.??

          • Praneeta, the 100% placement claim of XIMB RM is likely to be similar to that of SCMHRD’s 100% placement claim. In the end you will have to be in the t0p half (preferably 1/3rd) of the batch to get a good placement in both these programs.

  149. sir,
what is your opinion about the Banking and Insurance course offered by IMI-D. how do you see its future? i don’t know anything about this course, so any information would be very helpful. thank you.

  150. Sir: I have converted SIIB iB. My profile is as follows :
    10th: 89.60
    12th: 90.4
    Grad: B.E. (computers): 75
Work ex: 2 years (TCS) + for last july I am working as manager (IT) in a state based electricity distribution company in M.P.
I despertaly want to move out of this govt job; though I am earning 6L here. I want to make my careerplease suggest me what should I do? I have no other hope than SIIB.

    • Ankit, SIIB IB is a good program but with your academic record and work experience you can target better institutes. SIIB is unlikely to provide you with any significant growth. Please call me at 9811155160 to discuss.

  151. Sir i got a mat percentile of 99.1 % and a score of 761.5. I have got calls from Christ and XIME. Can you suggest some more colleges , preferably from Bangalore, Pune or Mumbai?

    • Dear Ignatius,

You may consider Alliance Business Academy, Bangalore, ITM Bangalore, IBS Bangalore, etc. You may also consider taking up a job this year, preparing for entrance exams again and getting to a higher ranked b-school next year.

  152. sir,
please tell you preference order among BIMTECH pgdm, IMT-G DCP, LBSIM pgdm.
Also can you tell why people give so many negative remarks about DCP at IMT? should one join that course?

    • Arun, IMT G has a batch size of 600 and DCP is an expensive program but with good exposure. If money is not an issue then it can be considered else LBSIM should be the first preference among these three followed by DCP.

  153. sir,
i am in my final year of graduation with cat-82%
i have got a call letter for PGDM(IB) in bimtech.
    should i join?

  154. sir ,
i gave cat this year and got 95.46%ile but was expecting a lot more so didnt fill colleges like fore, lbs , mib and mhrod etc the options that i have at the moment are IMT G and UBS(chandigarh) …..i am afraid IMT G wll gv me there dcp program as i have a grad percentage of 59 till third year…….so my doubt is weather i can give exam again and with 60% above in grad next year …but no job at hand will it further reduce my chances of making it to the better colleges…..a i am general engineer and male wit 60% in graduation and 85+ both in 10th and 12th …currently now in final semester…

    • also sir is it worth taking ubs chandigarh or i should try next year for all the colleges again …like kj somaiyaa, tapmi , gim etc…..thankyou looking fwd for your advice.

    • Deepak, given your performance in CAT and marks in X and XII you should go for a retake if you do not make it to IMT G PGDM. Apply to companies directly if campus placement is not happening. UBS Chandigarh is a good program but has been struggling for placements in the last couple of years and hence should be avoided.

  155. I am waitlisted for nmims mumbai.
I have an nmims rank of 1215.
What chances do i have to convert nmims mumbai?
    Thanks in advance.

  156. Hello Sir,
I have converted BIMTECH – Retail Mgmt. and IBS, Hyderabad – MBA (so i have Marketing option open). i have no other calls. I’m very interested in Marketing. Please advise me as to which college i should take up. Also, what kind of work do Retail Mgmt. alumni do and how different it is from the Marketing guys? Pl help. I’m very confused.

    • Chithra, BIMTECH RM should be preferred over IBS Hyderabad. RM alumni typically get jobs in sales and marketing.

  157. Hi GP sir,

I had a XAT OA score of 94.29 and have given the GD-PI for IMT-G/SIU/XLRI-HR/Great Lakes/GIM. TAPMI is on 4th April.
All my interviews were really good.
I have converted SIOM,SITM, SIIB-EE and Great lakes PGPM Chennai.
    I am pretty sure i’ll crack IMT-G.
I am interested in the knowledge and skill building and not more into easy money .

My profile : 32 months of work ex in IT. Working as a software consultant presently.

Please guide me on the choices i have. I am not sure which course will help me more in the long run.

    • Gaurav, given your calls and profile you can leave SIOM, SITM and SIIB EE. Among the remaining XLRI HR is the best but should be considered only if you are sure of specialising in this area. Ranking of the remaining institutes will be IMTG, TAPMI, GIM, GL Chennai PGPM but there is no significant gap between these institutes in terms of education, placements and also cost of education. GL Chennai has the advantage of a 1 year program.

  158. SIR, i am waitlisted at 67 in SITM and have converted IISWBM. which should i join considering the fees for SITM is 10.5 lacs with average salary of 7 to 5 lacs and that of IISWBM is 5.4 lacs (fees) and avg salary is 5.2 lacs. i will have to take a loan so which will be a better option? plz guide me sir.

    • Kankana, while IISWBM is a cheaper it is unlikely to provide better career opportunities apart for higher salary. If you can afford it financially then SITM should be preferred.

  159. Sir,

I am having 30 months of Work experience in IT(Currently working).I have converted calls for great lakes pgpm(Chennai) and NMIMS-FT-Core.
I request you to let me know for which I should move forward with?.Please revert as my joining for great lakes chennai pgpm course is on April 15th.Thanks a bunch.

    • Divya, NMIMS Mumbai FT is my preference over GL Chennai PGPM. While GL will save you an year NMIMS is likely to provide you with better career opportunities as it is an older and better known institute. Location of NM is also an advantage.

  160. Hello Sir,

i am your last year’s test series student
I had given CAT, XAT and NMAT, score as follows :
    CAT: 68 %ile
    XAT: 73 %ile
    NMAT: 189

Can you please let me know how is IMI Bhubhaneshwar and ITM Navi Mumbai ?

My Profile: 2011 BCA Graduate, Working in Infosys Pune from Aug 2011,my work ex is around 30 months right now, considering the fact will it not be more of work experience(3.5 yrs) if i go for 2014 ?

Also growth opportunities are limited as i wanted to concentrate on preparation only, but to improve my profile shall i switch ?

    Awaiting your reply.
    Thanks in advance .

    • Tanmay, given your work experience IMI Bhubaneshwar and ITM Navi Mumbai are not recommended. You should go for a retake of CAT/XAT and also take GMAT to open up the option of ISB Hyderabad and other B schools outside India. Great Lakes 1 year program is also a good option for you.

      • Hello Sir,
        Thanks for quick reply.
To add on this, iam preferring MBA in india only due to financial constraints.

Can you please also let me know the amount of work ex counted by B-school, i mean as we fill different forms i.e CAT, CMAT and all in that the work ex we mention is counted or till the last day we leave the company i.e is counted

As last year when i had filled the forms, that time around i had 24 months of work ex, going by that 36 months will be for this year, when i fill the forms again.

Correct me if i am wrong.

        Regards,
        Tanmay

        • Tanmay, this time it will be 36 months and is possibly the best case for you since 3 year work ex usually gets the maximum weight. Within India you should consider 1 year programs of ISB Hyderabad and Great Lakes Chennai also.

          • Hello Sir,
            Thanks for the reply.

Also to add, i have got 75%ile in feb cmat, can i try for welingkar and will i be able to convert it ?

And, How is the college ?

Lastly, how is XIM Jabalpur, they had given a call but heard its not a good college.

            Thanks in Advance.

  161. My CAT -79%ile
    Work Ex -3.5yrs in IT

    GP Sir,
Please suggest me according to present scenario:
    SITM- w/l 76
    SCIT- w/l 200
IMT Nagpur- Result awaited(Done with GD-PI)
IFMR Chennai- Result awaited(Done with WAT-PI)
    NIBM Pune- Call awaited

I have converted BIMTECH Gr.Noida for admission and last date to pay fees is 31st March.
Please advise as to what should I do??

    Regards,
    Mohit.

    • Mohit, with a 3.5 year work experience you should ideally take GMAT and target 1 year programs of ISB Hyderabad, top institutes outside India and Great Lakes Chennai but if you have to do an MBA this year itself then SITM is your best option. Wait list 76 will most probably get cleared. BIMTECH is not recomended for you.

  162. Hi Sir.. I’m in terrible confusion.. I have converted TAPMI.. Had very good GD/PI of GIM also and expecting a convert in that too.. Can you please suggest me which out of the two GIM/TAPMI is better.. GIM has a smaller batch size but I guess the brand name and pedigree of TAPMI is better.. Placements have been similar in both but i’m bit apprehensive if the large batch size of TAPMI will affect its placements.. Please advice sir which one to choose out of these two?

    • Pradeep, TAPMI will offer better quality placement opportunities also given your work experience TAPMI is a better option.

  163. hello sir,
i have converted sdmimd mysore but the concern is that mysore is vry far frm UP.the other options i have are sies pgdm, n l dalmia pgdm, imdr pune, bimtech retail, welingkar business design or retail….. so sir kindly help me what shud be my prefernce in an order- if dese get converted. i m a fresher nd need to take admissn ds year.sir pls rply soon.

  164. Sir, I have a choice b/w NM Bang and IBS hyderabad as of now. And the result of LBS is awaited. Which one should i opt?
can you please tell the order of pref and the reason.
    Thank you in advance

    • Srishti, My order of preference is LBSIM, NM Blr and finally IBS Hyd.
IBS has a huge batch size and the lowest average salary and a huge batch size. LBS and NM Blr have similar average salary but NM Blr is a new institute and is more expensive hence LBS is preferred.

  165. Hello Sir,

My CAT percentile is 90.66 and I have applied to K. J. Somaiya, IMT Ghaziabad and Great Lakes (2 years). I appeared for IMT G’s interview and it went fine. I want to know what is the difference between PGDM and DCP apart from the fees of the program i.e., placements, course study, etc. I want a college with good curriculum in finance and exposure. Please rank the above three institutes according to your preference as that would be very helpful Sir.

    • Khurshid, the curriculum of PGDM and DCP is similar but DCP gives you good international exposure and a possibility of placement at Dubai. My preference will be IMT G, KJ Somaiya, IMT G DCP, GL PGDM. DCP goes down only because of the cost factor.

      • Sir, How are MIB/MHROD.The ROI seems lucrative for MIB/MHROD, but am unable to gather much information about its overall ranking,If there’s a choice between NMIMS mumbai and MHROD?

        • Anubhuti, there is no comparison between NMIMS and MIB/MHORD. NMIMS is the preferred choice on account of its placements, it is also ranked significantly higher. The only place where MIB/MHORD score over NMIMS is the fee.

  166. Hello GP sir please help me taking a good decision.
I’m selected for PGDM-NMIMS Banglore. I’ve got only 2 days to confirm it or my selection will be cancelled. If I confirm I need to pay fee (nearly 6 lacs) before march 18th. My other options are LBSIM, FORE, IMT-G, TAPMI (for which results are not yet out) I want to pursue only in Marketing or Finance. Please arrange the above institutes in order to consider. However if I get selected for another Institute Paying fee at both the Institutes is beyond my financial capability (as it is mentioned that the refund from nmims takes 45-60 days). So, finally please tell whether to finalize NMIMS-bang as a back-up or leave it and wait for other results. Please give a reply ASAP. Eagerly waiting for your reply. Thanks in Advance 🙂

    • Rahul, send NMIMS a confirmation as this will give you time to think and decide.
Given your choices my order of preference is for IMTG, TAPMI, LBSIM, FORE and then NM Bangalore. If you have a good CAT score and/or have had a good interview you can afford to leave NM Blr and move on. If not then you should plan to deposit the money.
You can call me at 98111555160 if you want to discuss this further.

      • I chose to leave NM-bang. i’ve got my CAT 93.xx My interviews were not bad (not good though).I believe I can convert at least 2 out of lbs,gim,imt-g,fore,tapmi. And forgot to mention where do you place GIM in the above order.? One last ques. can i apply to welingkar-mumbai as a last option, in the worst case if i’m unable able to convert any of the above. (i’m a fresher)
        Thanking You 🙂

        • Rahul, my preference order is: IMTG, TAPMI, GIM, LBS and FORE but other factors like low fee could move LBS ip the order. Suggest that you look at this only after the final calls are received.

  167. Hi Sir,
I have converted NMIMS Mumbai, FTMBA. Considering the fees and stay (as im not a resident of Mumbai) the cost of MBA will be around 18 – 20 lakhs. Currently I’m working as a software engineer (20 months experience) at a good product based company with around 6.7 lakhs in-hand salary. Money is my main concern because my dad has retired from service. Would it be advisable for me to go for NM or stay at my current job and try for IIMs next year under the NC-OBC quota (Profile: Xth – 90.6%, XIIth- 90, Grad-72.8)? (I agree that my ROI from NM will depend on how i perform in my MBA course)
    Kindly give me some advise.

    • Ajay, while it has good placements, NM is a costly affair and as a NC-OBC candidate with a good academic record and a good job you can definitely consider a retake if you are confident of scoring a 95%ile in CAT’14.

  168. My friend is an engineer and has got around 2.5 year experience in IT. He scored around 82%ile in CAT this year and has got a call from IBS, Hyderabad. Should he join? Please advise.

Please consider the fact that his Academic Profile(AP) is poor, and hence even if he drops one year and prepares well, he cannot get into the top notch colleges that consider AP.

Also, please can you pinpoint all the premier MBA colleges that do not consider Academic Profile. I tried googling, but could not gather much info.

    Please help!!

    • Twinkle, IBS Hyderabad is not recommended for an engineer with 2.5 years experience.
Acads Profile is important only for the IIMs (especially the top IIMs), all other institutes have a very low or no weight for a candidates academic profile.

  169. Sir i have got admission in IBS hyd… but the fees is quite high… is it worth spending 12 lakhs on this? i have to bang on the education loan… so pls help me out with this decision…

    • Ritu, IBS Hyderabad is an expensive back up option and joining or not depends upon your options? Its average salary is likely to be around Rs 5 – 5.5 lakh pa.
What are your scores in CAT/XAT/SNAP etc?
      Work experience and salary?

  170. sir, what would be the preference order if we consider DCP FROM IMT-G,PGDM from BIMTECH, B/I from IMI, IBM from FOR? . Also, can give your opinion on each of these.

  171. Sir,
I’m a BBA graduate and currently working since last year.
How do you rank these institutes-
    IBS(Hyd), NMIMS(BANGALORE), TAPMI, NIRMA, MICA, IIM-ROHTAK, IIM-RAIPUR, IIM-UDAIPUR, IIM-INDORE, FMS, IMT-NAGPUR.
Please state the reason also sir. Also if you could reply it at the earliest.
    Thank you in advance sir.

    • Manish, can your precisely ask your question? Some of these institutes are very good and some are average. Which calls/converts do you have?

    • Manish, my order of preference is:
      FMS, IIM-INDORE, IIM-ROHTAK, IIM-RAIPUR, IIM-UDAIPUR, MICA, TAPMI, NIRMA, IMT-NAGPUR, NMIMS(BANGALORE), IBS(Hyd).

  172. Hi Sir,

The main reasons that I am considering an MBA this year is my interest and not being satisfied with my current job. I want a full-time course to have a switch from my current techie profile. I do not have the financial backup to do an MBA abroad and do a course as costly as Great lakes.
Isn’t ISB&M,Pune worth a shot considering the site suggests a median and average salary of 6.2 lpa. With my work experience, expected salary may rise a notch higher?!!
I have been shortlisted and waiting for GD/PI from XIME, IMT NAGPUR and BIMM,Pune.
I cannot wait an year more to do an MBA sir. Please help as i am really confused on this!!!

    Regards,
    Rohit

    • Rohit, many times the average salary claimed is exaggerated. Among the calls that you have XIME and IMT Nagpur can be considered favourably but not the other two. While cost is a factor in GL Chennai but its average placement is significantly higher than the others and loan is also available which can be repaid easily with the higher salary.

      • I seemed to have missed out on last date of PGPM in Great lakes:(:(:(
Is Welingkar, Bangalore worth a shot?
Or any other option for this year?
        Sorry to be a pain.

        Regards,
        Rohit

          • Sir,

I have been selected at IMT,Nagpur. Can you please let me know about the positives and negatives of this institute?
It seems to be low on ROI.

            Regards,
            Rohit

          • Dear Rohit,

You are quite right in saying that IMT Nagpur has a low ROI. The total fee for the 2 year program at IMT Nagpur is approx Rs. 11 lakhs. Average salaries of its graduates, on the other hand, are in the range of Rs. 6 lakhs per annum.

Which are the other institutes from which you have received final calls? Are you currently working and, if so, in what capacity? Do give us this information so that we can better advise you as to whether you should opt for IMT Nagpur.

          • Sir,

I had been selected to other campuses (IFIM, ISB&M-Pune) not as good as IMT-N. Currently awaiting results for XIME-Bangalore, BIMM Pune (Executive Batch). Applied for Welingkar(Mum), SIESCOMS, GreatLakes Gurgaon PGPM Energy (for 2+ yrs work ex). Working in an IT MNC for 2.5 yrs (drawing 3.7 lpa) and desparately want a switch from this sector to an MBA. I have also written MH-CET (J&K candidate) and awaiting results for it.

          • Rohit, apart from IMT Nagpur, you can consider Welingkar and Great Lakes PGPME. With a 2,5 year work experience it might be useful to consider taking GMAT and target ISB Hyderabad. Hopefully MhCET will give you better options.

  173. Hi,

I have been selected in IFIM,Bangalore and ISB&M,Pune (Nande) campus. I have 2.5 yrs of IT experience. Can you please let me know which is better in terms of placements and exposure to industry? . I would be going for PGDM in Finance.

    Regards,
    Rohit

    • Rohit, given your work experience both these institutes are avoidable. You should consider a retake of CAT/XAT and also take GMAT this year to target the 1 year MBA program of ISB Hyderabad and other top institutes outside India. You should also consider Great Lakes Chennai 1 year program.

  174. Sir,

I have scored 94.28%ile in MAT Feb. Is there any chance to get a call from any college like jbims, simsree? Also does KJ Somaiya and Wellingkar consider MAT Feb score? what options can I consider at this score?

    • Also Sir, I had applied for Great Lakes PGDM through MAT. However, I didn’t get a gdpi call at this score. Should I expect a call in the 2nd cycle?

    • Tanya, JBIMS and SIMSREE are unlikely at your score. KJ Somaiya and Welingkar are a part of CET/DTE for theoir MMS programs.

  175. sir , what are your views on ubs chandigarh mba (general) …..also in comparison to imt ghaziabad which has a huge batch size 0f 600+ students…..which should b preffered ????? sir and please throw some light on ubs placement??

    • Depak, UBS Chandigarh does not have good placements and hence is not recommended over IMT G which is able to provide good placements despite the huge batch size.

  176. Respected Sir ,

Thanks for sharing so much knowledge on CAT/XAT/IIFT etc.. and Bschools in India . Sir I would like to know your views on FMS,BHU . How is the college and the placements ? Is it 100% placement ? and If you have to compare FMS,BHU with others , would you put it in the same league as LIBA,GREATLAKES,IFMR,KJ SOMIYA and FORE or would it be a bit below these colleges ?
I am curious about FMS,BHU cause of the super low fee , hence giving a good ROI .

    Awaiting your valuable reply ,

    Jackie

    • Jackie, FMS-BHU will fall below the likes of the colleges you have mentioned. Yes, the course fee is very low and that is one positive thing. You can go for it if you don’t have other options.

  177. Dear Sir
I have got placed in GL, chennai campus. I am a mechanical engineer working in FMCG and have heard that in GL majority of the companies are IT and they prefer only IT candidates. So the non it engineers struggle in placements.
Could you please help me out.I am very confused?

  178. sir, other options are IFMR, NIBM and MICA. i will be appearing for the GDPI of IFMR and NIBM and MICAT is tomm. not sure whether i will clear any of them or not.
my post is w.r.t to this ques. thank u sir…i am interested in PGDM only. sir do u think a person should join bimtech considering the high fees and low ROI? (fresher, 1 year dropout after graduation) what wud be the min and max package for a fresher PGDM student?

    • Meera, given your option it does not make sense to go for BIMTECH sectoral programs. IFMR and MICA are much better options but go through the BIMTECH process also as it will act as a backup option.

    • Abhas, NIBM Pune is a decent institute but most of its placements were in Pubic Sector Banks. Unfortunately campus recruitment has been declared illegal by a Court order hence its future placements are under a cloud. Hopefully it will be able to get Private Sector banks for placements. At present NIBM can only be considered as a back up.

        • Abhas, PSUs are not banned in NIA but a Mumbai High Court order has held that PSU Banks should not go for campus recruitment. The same rule would apply to PSU Insurance companies also. Please check this link for a news article on the same.

  179. I have a composite score of 97.18 in SNAP.

    WAT was good.

PI was very good and the panel seemed pretty impressed.

However I didn’t get a call from SIBM-Pune or SCMHRD.
Also Bangalore is around 400 waitlist and SIIB 500 waitlist.

    Doesn’t this sound odd?

Please let me know your view.

    • Amit, with a good interview this definitely seems odd but our feelings at the end of the PI are not necessarily the same as that of the interviewers. The rank suggests that you have been rated poorly in the interview.

    • Rishabh, this is a difficult one because while IMT G is higher ranked and has a good placement track record (average salary of Rs 9 lakh) it also has a huge batch size (600+) and students at the lower end struggle for decent placements. IMI on the other hand has moved up significantly in the last few years but is still ranked lower but with a smaller batch size provides equally good placements. Neither of these are especially known for finance.
At present focus on converting the calls and let us decide after you get the final calls.

  180. Hello Sir my cat percentile is 80 with 2 yr exp.my profile is 10th=72,12=73,btech(mechanical)=66.I filled the form of spm, gandinagar irma mica.Sir I want to knw about spm, about its placement, how much its average package and basically abt college.
And I did 28 question in online social concern test conducted by IRMA 2014 in which maximum 2-3 will be wrong rest will be correct. So Sir please tell me my chance of getting call from irma.

    • Raj, not much is known about the placements of SPM Gandhinagar and my estimate is that it is unlikely to be great. MICA and IRMA are much better options and should be preferred over SPM.

    • Saikat, both of these colleges are very good. You should go for IIM-Shillong unless you are too keen in pursuing MBA in Operations and Supply Chain Management.

  181. hello gp sir,
my mat feb 2014 composite score is 553.5 and percentile is below 54.77.
should i get some good colleges for pgdm .if yes plz suggest some of them. especially in delhi, pune, bangalore. and hows is aims centre of delhi and bangalore’s christ and allince university.
if i have the choice of getting good b school apart from these so plz suggest.THANK YOU……………………

  182. sir, how would u rate bimtech noida? average, decent or good? and what package shall i expect from bimtech?
which is better? bimtech or ifmr?

    • Meera, you could go for BIMTECH. It is an above average college and the average placements lie in the range of 4.5-5 lacs.

        • Meera, while the average package of PGDM is in the region of 6-6.5 lakh pa that of the sectoral MBA programs is in the region of 4-4.5 lakh pa hence the overall average is around 5 lakh pa.

          • thank u sir…i am interested in PGDM only. sir do u think a person should join bimtech considering the high fees and low ROI? (fresher, 1 year dropout after graduation) what wud be the min and max package for a fresher PGDM student?

  183. Sir, between SIBM-Blore and NMIMS-Blore which one would you rate higher and why??? Pls clarify. (I have given my PI for both)

    • Gopal, SIBM Bangalore and NM Bangalore are both new institutes but are decent options. With almost similar career opportunities, salary packages, age and fee structure it is very diificult to choose one over the other. Suggest we discuss this after you get the fianl calls.

  184. my son has an academic record of 83% in 10th, 78% in 12th & 58% in Grads, btech(cs). no work experience. To get a decent Institute, what percentile should he target in CAT / XAT. pl advise. he is preparing for CAT 2014.

    • Mr. Yogendra, considering low 12th and graduation marks, 98+ percentile in CAT should be safe to ensure calls from the elite colleges. In XAT, 94+ percentile with balanced sectionals will ensure calls from XLRI as well as XAT allied institutes.

    • Mr Yogendra, for top IIMs your son will need almost 100%ile and for other IIMs over 98%ile. Most or the top non IIMs are possible at 97%ile while a score below 95%ile will significantly reduce chances of a good institutes.

      • Sir, thanks a lot for your prompt response & guidance. Can you pl be kind to list a few of non – iim top institutes which he can target with a cat percentile of 98+. This guidance will make him more focussed in his hard work. Thanks

        • Mr Yogendra, for non-IIMs
CAT 99%ile: FMS and IIT Mumbai.
CAT 97%ile: MDI Gurgaon, NITIE, all other IITs.
CAT 95%ile: SP Jain, XIM Bhubaneshwar, MFC DU.
CAT 93%ile: most of the other MBA institutes.
          XAT 95%ile: XLRI Jamshedpur

  185. Sir,
I am a fresher and i have a call from nmims bangalore….how do you rate this college compared to fore, amity, xime

  186. Sir,
I had an average WAT and PI at IIM-K. I want to gauge my chances for new IIMs( worst case scenario). I secured 98.11 percentile in CAT. X-92.6 XII-88.4, B.E.(BITS-P)-83.5.

I didn’t fill any forms besides IMT-Ghaziabad. Please help!

    • Abhinav, The weight of different components in IIMK are 35% for CAT, 5% for Work Exp, 45% for interview and 15% for WAT. So an average interview + WAT would mean average chances, however your assessment of your performance need not necessarily be correct. Let us hope for the best.
Which other cals have you received.

      • Sir,
‘New IIMs’ and ‘IMT-G’ are the only options available to me besides IIM-K.Also, should I rank new IIMs higher compared to IMT-G in case I convert both?.Please suggest your order of preference among new IIMs.

  187. sir, my XIME bangalore interview is on 13th or 14th in Hyderabad. pls suggest me whether i should consider it or not? i don’t have much options available and i am a fresher. but still i want to pursue my MBA from a decent college atleast..if not a very superior one. what package can i expect after MBA from XIME being a fresher? how many % students get placed?
hows the college overall? pls guide me sir.

    • Simran, XIME claims to have a placement of 98% with average placement of around 6 lacs. Since you are a fresher you do have the option of retaking CAT/XAT if you are confident enough to perform well in these exams next year. However, if you are willing to go for MBA this year only, you can consider XIME.

  188. Sir How is Welingkar Mumbai with 2 years of experience?? I heard that this year their placements are not good .. Please suggest sir whether I should apply to this college or not??

  189. Hello Sir
Please tell me about great lakes PGDM programme. Is it worth doing MBA from great lakes. What about average package of PGDM(not PGPM). Great lakes mentions to accept MAT scores also…so for which programmes they are considering MAT scores.

    Thanks

    • Arun, since the first batch of PGDM will pass out this year it is difficult to comment on its acceptance by the industry. However it has had a decent Summer Internship and GL will push its existing recruiters for the final placements also. It is not a bad option but depends upon current status and other options. Between the two Chennai is likely to be better than Gurgaon.

  190. sir how is NIBM pune? as u must be knowing that PSU’s wont be coming for recruitment now. so do pvt banks come for recruitment in NIBM? and what about MNC’s? do they cum to NIBM? what packages do they offer to students?
i want to pursue my MBA in the field of finance and banking only.
pls give me some insight about this college in detail.
and one more thing sir. plss rank BIMTECH, IFMR, XIME, NIBM in order in terms of placements only. sir, a quick reply will be appreciated. pls answer all the queries.

    • Richa, private banks too come for placements in NIBM. You can check the complete list of recruiters here .
NIMB is a well known name in the field of Banking. If you are interested in Banking and Finance, go ahead.
In order of placements, the colleges will be IFMR, NIBM, BIMTECH, XIME.

      • sir..where can i check the complete list of recruiters and average package? there website is not at all good. pls provide me some link.

          • sir…i checked the list…all the banks mentioned in the list are public sector banks except one or two. if u are not aware of the high court order, i would like to update u dat from now onwards public banks will not be coming for recruitment to any B-school. so then what are the chances of getting placed from NIBM? in a pvt sector bank or MNC?

          • Richa, the Bombay high Court judgement has definitely created problems for NIBM. To the best of my knowledge MNC banks do not come for placements.

  191. Sir, I am a BA student..I got call form FORE Delhi- PGDM..Since most of the good mba college prefer engineering student so I want to know how many BA (Arts) student get admission in FORE every year ?..What is the chances of selection of a BA student ? Sir, I also want to know is UBS a good college..if I get admission in UBS, will this be possible to get job in Delhi after completing course form UBS ?..

    • Richa, not many Arts students go for MBA and hence only 5-7% of the students in any MBA institute (including FORE) will be from Arts. The selection ratio of non Engineers is higher than that of Engineers so you have a good chance.
While UBS has very low fee, it been struggling for placements hence I would not recommend it and it can at best be a back up option.

  192. Sir,

I have a GD/PI call from IMT-G based on my XAT score(90.89%ile overall). You had categorised the institute as “Category A” institute in one of your previous posts, so I guess it is a good to very good one.
However, I have one nagging worry : I am interested in pursuing MBA in Operations and/or IT specialisations, but, I have heard that IMT-G is good only for Marketing and Finance (though they do offer the “Solutions and Consulting” track). Please advise on whether I should accept the offer if I am able to convert it and risk opting for the “Solutions and Consulting” track at IMT-G or should I let go and try next year for some other institutes which offer better courses for my area of interest. Also, are IMT-N or IMT-H worth it considering I have a >4L package job offer in hand?

    • Dhruv, if you have a decent profile at hand right now, there is no point in going for IMT-Nagpur or Hyderabad. The prospects of Operations from IMT-G are not bad but if you want a specialized course in Ops you should aim for NITIE or IIT-B.

    • Dhruv, given that you have a decent job offer, INT Nagpur and Hyderabad should not be considered. IMT G is better known for finance and marketing but its Ops and IT specialisations are not bad. If you are are confident of improving your CAT score to 97%ile or XAT score to 95%ile then you should consider a retake as this will get you calls from higher ranked institutes.

  193. Hi Sir!

Just wanted to ask a general Q which is not related to this particular forum of discussion. I’ve started my CAT preparation a month ago and I’ve been attending sessions at CL. I’m reading newspapers almost daily and noting down new words I come across in a notebook. But, the thing is I’m finding it a bit difficult to remember each word. I’ve noted every new word and I’m just thinking that I’ll revise every word later on. Is it a correct strategy or am I doing something wrong?
Also, as I’m working I don’t have much time for the preparation. Regarding Maths, apart from the classroom sessions, I’m going through the packages till the solved examples and the theory. I don’t practice much.

Please advise me how to proceed correctly with my preparation, considering the time constraints.

    • Abhi, you are following the correct strategy. You should keep revising the words you note down in order to retain them. Focus on comprehending whatever you read and try to understand the structure and grammatical composition of sentences. You need to devote at least a couple of hours daily to revise and practice the concepts taught to you in class sessions. Without practice nothing is going to help.

  194. Sir, How is NPTI Faridabad (MBA in POWER MANAGEMENT) ?
Can you please tell me about its placement ?
    Is it worth joining ?

    • Saurabh, NPTI is the best name in Power Management sector. If you are interested in the same and have preferably Mechanical or Electrical back-ground you can go for it. NPTI boasts of 100 percent placements since its inception. The placement stats are not sky high but are decent enough. It is worth joining only if you want to pursue a career in Power sector.

  195. sir, would u advice me to take nibm pune? as psu’s wont be coming for recruitment now so what are the chances of getting a decent job in a pvt sector bank? do pvt banks come for placements in nibm? what packages do they offer to a fresher? sir pls give me some advice.

  196. Sir,
How is the PGDM in Great Lakes..??I have a percentile of 87.77 and also i attended a call from BIMTECH.I was not short listed by FORE,IMI DELHI.
What should be back up options still now..!!!??

    • Aritra, only back-up option is MH-CET/CMAT as the application time for most of the colleges is over by now. The last date of TAPMI has been extended to 15th February. You can consider that.

  197. Sir, what about placements at fms,bhu , rgipt,rae bareilly & nibm,pune?
Are nibm & rgipt, rae bareilly good options for going into public sector?

    • Anurag, among these RGIPT and NIBM Pune have decent placements and can be considered. Since bulk of Banking and Petroleum sectors are controlled by PSUs you have a good chance of getting into these companies.

    • Varun, Great Lakes PGPM is a decent course for those who have relevant work experience. It can be considered as an option.

  198. Sir, I am a qualified CA,I gave xat 2014 and have got calls from Great lakes PGPM….Do you think this would add value over and above CA??

    • Yash, if you have worked in the same domain for a couple of years, GL-PGPM will certainly add value to your profile.

  199. Hi Sir, Got 86 Percentile in CAT having 2.5 years of experience in IT. Applied for Great Lakes and Fore. Request you to please guide me if I should apply for TAPMI. Also howz TAPMI in terms of learning and placement?(Today is the last date to apply. Early response is much appreciated)

    • Dhruv, the application time for TAPMI has been extended to 15th February. If you haven’t applied for it, go ahead and apply.

  200. Dear Sir,

I have 2 years work experience with an engineering company. I have got call from SIIB for Mba in Energy and environment. What is your valuable opinion about this course ? Is it worth joining if I convert the call?

    Thanks in advance

    • Arnub, the course you are talking about is a very specialized one. Go for it only if you have interest in the field. Furthermore, it is not very reputed. you could look for it as a backup option if you are desperate for MBA this year.

  201. Sir
I have secured above 85 in each section..overall 89…my acads are as follows
    X -81
    XII – 91
    GRAD- 65
    CAT OA- 89
Why have i not been shortlisted for gdpi by FORE School??? I havnt been shortlisted for any course!! pgdm or pgdm-IB ..Sir…i m panicking ..pls pls help me…has there been a mistake???
Plss reply ASAP … Eagerly awaiting reply!

    • Sanchita, cutoffs are a function of the number of applications received by the institute and the number of interview calls it decides to give for every seat. Hopefully you will get a cal from some of the other institutes. Where all have you applied and where are you working?

  202. hello sir..at 82%ile in cat.can i consider empi as my backup option?how is its placement?fee 8.7lakhs(including boarding nd lodging).

  203. Sir,

How is NMIMS banglore and hydrabad campus?
everybody says they have very small campus. Why does having a small campus a worry?
I have got a call from NIMIS banglore and hydrabad and SIIB EnE which should be a better option??

    • Harshvardhan, the size of the campus is not important, its education and placement are the factors that one should consider. Based on these the you can definitely consider NM Blr. My order ifpreference is NM Blr, SIIB E&E and then NM Hyd.
