Tata Institute of Social Sciences National Common Entrance Test 2013

TISS-NET 2013, the first ever online test for admission into Post-Graduate courses of Tata Institute of Social Sciences, was conducted on 13th January 2013. The candidates were given a choice of taking the test in paper or computer based format. There was no difference in the questions of the paper based test and the computer based test.

Unlike CAT and NMAT, the test taking conditions for the TISS-NET were quite lax. There was no registration required at the test center and candidates were allowed to carry their bags with them inside the test labs. The candidates were assigned the test taking username and password with the admit card itself. So, all a person had to do at the center was to slip into the correct seat and start the test.

At the beginning of the test, a screen popped up that asked the candidate to verify some personal details. Surprisingly, all the details except for the name of the test taker, for most students, were incorrect. When this was brought to the attention of the invigilators, they asked the candidates to not get bothered by this and start the test anyways.

At some centers the candidates were given one single A4 sheet as scratch paper and later, the invigilators refused to supply more of it. As the test takers were not allowed to use their own scratch sheets, most of them were left in the lurch having already used the given sheet.

The test comprised 100 questions and students were given 100 minutes to complete them. There was no negative marking in the test and most of the questions were of easy-moderate level of difficulty. The time given for completing the test was more than sufficient and most students were able to complete the test before time. An attempt of less than 80 questions in this test might not be considered good.

The details of the questions was as given below-

  2. Hi,

Just cleared the TISSNET 2014 for MHA. I have some questions sir. Please answer them if you can.

    1. Are there 2 Essay rounds if a student is eligible for two different courses simultaneously?
    2. How many students apply for MHA Health Administration?
    3. How many students apply for MHA Hospital Administration?
    4. Which is a more placement oriented course out of the two? Do both the courses have the same companies for placement?
    5. I have given my first preference to Health administration but I want to do Hospital administration, which is my second preference. I am worried I will get through Health administration when I want to do my second preference. I am eligible for both the interviews. What should I do to avoid this? give a bad performance in PI for Health Administration? Please help.

    • Soniya, I will not be able to help since I do not have sufficient information on MHA.
In TISS the process is different for each program but in your case it is two different specialisations of MHA so it is possible that there will be a common process for both. Change in preference is not allowed but you should check again when you go for the interview.

  3. Sir,
Can you tell me the approx. no. of candidates appearing for the Human resources and labor course of TISS ?
    Thank You

  4. Hello Sir,
I have a 6 months work experience, but had to leave my job due health issues. I am currently preparing for entrance exams. Please can you guide me as to whether i have a chance of getting into School of Management and Labour Studies. Please guide me what all necessary conditions are required. I am a 2013 Pass Out and i left my job in Feb 2014.

    Regards
    Akshay Sharma

    • Akshay, leaving a job on account of ill health does not make you ineligible for the program. Focus on your preparation and do take XAT also fro XLRI.

    • Dear Shubhra,

Comprehensive books for management entrance preparation from any good publisher will be good enough. Additionally, solve some past year’s papers and take some mock tests.

  5. Sir I marked around 24 questions and then marked for review. They vl be considered for marking..ryt..please confirm sir..I am tensed

  6. Aabir, the GK section of TISSNET is not restricted to these topics but has questions from other areas as well. The IRMA/TISS Compendium and Question Banks in the eLib of your SIS will be sufficient for TISS. The difficulty level is similar to that of other papers.

  7. i am a student belonging to General Category. In accordance with the CL Score Calculator, I’ve scored 89 to 92 in CET. With this score will I get a call for both Social Entrepreneurship and Rural Development and governance programme? Please reply.

  8. Dear Sir,
Kindly give an idea about the One year full time courses offered by TISS. I have been selected for Management of Voluntary – Non-Profit Organisations and for MA Mental Health..are these being introduced for the first time this year?
also guide for the PIT..I am unable to get any information on this. Please help!!

    • Riddhi, both these programs (Management of Voluntary Organisations and MA in Mental Health- One-year, Full-time degree programs) are being introduced at TISS for the first time this year. The information regarding the eligibility and PIT for these programs is given below.

Eligibility: Only candidates with a Master’s degree and work experience will be considered for the one-year, full-time Master’s Degree programmes in Management of Voluntary Organisations and Mental Health. Those who do not possess a master’s degree and a minimum of 3 years experience are not eligible.

Pre-Interview Test (PIT)- For all programs except any of the Social Work programs across TISS Campuses, the PIT will be in the form of a Written Test. Most probably, the candidates will be asked to write an essay in about 500-600 words on a topic pertaining to the course.

  20. sir i have completed my graduation last year 2012 in BA prog from Delhi university and had planned to drop a year after graduation to focus on cat and other MBA entrance exam. However i have scored very low marks in cat and in tissnet i will be scoring around 68 which is not enough to get a call from tata for hrm course. If i plan to attempt tissnet next year because i want to do mba in hr only and for which i think tiss is the best institute, i will have to drop another year (2013
) for the same which i think will be quite depressing for me.Kindly give some suggestion i dont want to waste another year .

  21. Sir,
How good is TISS for HR?
I heard it is the second best after XLRI. Is it true?
If I get through TISS and not any other decent college, then should take it up or try again next year for another college?
I am keen on only HR.

    1. HRM
    2. Social Entrepreneurship

  24. Sir, getting a score of 74 according CL key… Applied for HRM and Rural management(Hyderabad)
    Can i expect a call?

  25. Sir, i think the answer to question no.50 should be 3 hours because at 2.5 hours both A & B will be at the same point (i.e A has covered 145 km and B has covered 125 km, while a started 20 km behind B) and the question says at what time Car A “OVERTAKES” Car B?
Secondly, at 74 what are my chances 4 Tiss HR and Tiss Social Entrpshp???

    • Ravish, in QA overtakes will mean when will Car A catch up with Car B.
74 is a borderline case for HR but hopefully you will clear.

  31. scoring only 68 in tissnet .any chances of getting shortlisted for second round process for the admission in hrm course?

    • Mohsin, TISS has not released the data of the total number of test takers but it should be around 15000. However the more important question for which I do not have an answer and which will effectively determine the cut off is – how many have applied to each program?

  32. i scored 76 according to CL score calculator

  36. Sir, getting 77 atleast according to the calculator, marked 5 random a’s in the last few secs, and bcoz of my stupidity missed out on even marking 12-15 Qs. Sir, i guess, the ans for snake poison question should be prophylactic and not antidote as the was the article before the blank and not an. PLZ help on this.

Also, plz tell if there are chances for HRM TISS. I thought i will mark those remaining questions in the end, bt the examiner snatched 5 mins earlier. Depressed and flabbergasted.
