SYMBIOSIS NATIONAL APTITUDE TEST (SNAP 2012) EXAM ANALYSIS

The big surprise in SNAP this year was that the authorities did not allow the students to take home the question paper. This move will only allow for greater amount of uncertainty while applying to colleges, and will definitely benefit the lower ranked Symbiosis colleges in attracting a larger number of applications.

Other than this, SNAP did not throw many surprises this year. The number of questions and sections remained the same as last year. One thing that did change is the logical reasoning section, where absence of Critical Reasoning questions would have come as a welcome relief. This section was mostly made of Mathematical and Logical Reasoning.

The number of attempts should have been for 130 marks or more if your average accuracy in Mocks (total correct / total attempts) tops 85%+. It was at your discretion to choose which section to attempt first. However, you should have started with Logical Reasoning, given that all the questions in this section carried 2 marks each. Then, you could have attempted any of the sections depending upon your strengths. Although, colleges are not likely to take sectional cut-offs, a student with a zero or a negative score in a section is likely to get eliminated.

    • Supriya, there is no weight for acads this year in SNAP institutes so it is your performance in SNAP will determine if you will get a call or not.

    I have got a GE/PI call from SIIB for MBA-IB, i did not apply for SIBM-Bangalore form and i missed SCMHRD by a marginal 0.6 percentile difference.
    SNAP percentile — 95.9
    XII — 86%
    X — 79%
    B.E. (Computer Sc.) — 70.03%
    Work Ex — 2.5 years in IT MNC.
    Please guide me whether it is advisable for me to join SIIB MBA – IB this year, as i do not have any other calls in this year.

    • Vedant, you have a chance of getting a call from SCMHRD and SIIB, SIBM Pune looks difficult but we would know on 17th Jan.

    • Riya, you may be able to get a call from SIHS since it attracts very few applications but please check 66.75%ile cannot be 76 marks it should be lower.

    • Shambhavi, the top 5 SIBM-P/B, SCMHRD, SIIB and SIOM are unlikely and given your work experience it may not be worthwhile considering the others.

    • Parag you will get calls from SIBM-P and SCMHRD at a scoe of 80-85 since I expect the SC category cutoff to be around 60.

    • Ananda, with 65-70 in SNAP you will get calls from all SNAP institutes this year in the SC category. The top SNAP institutes, SIBM, SCMHRD, SIIB, SIOM, SIBM-B) are all good and offer good careers.

    • Anurag, SIMS is a decent institute and should be considered. At a score off 75-85 calls are likely from all institutes other than the top 5 (SIBM-P/B, SCMHRD, SIIB & SIOM)

    • Shivangi, At a score of 80-85 SIBM Pune and SCMHRD are ruled out. SIIB and SIBM Blr are also difficult. Calls from the remaining Symbiosis institutes are possible. Please give your background (acads, work ex) and location preference for me to suggest institutes thru MAT.

    • Ram, All SNAP institutes have a 40% weight for SNAP score, 20% each of Group Exercise and Interview and the remaining 20% is at the discretion of the institute so profile will matter in the interview and in the 20% for the institute specific attributes. However with a SNAP score of 115, 30 months work experience and good academic track record you should not have a problem making it to the final list of SIBM Pune.

    • Arunav, SNAP has a weight of only 40% in the total score so if you do well in the Personality Assessment process you should be able to make to to the final list.

    according to the test site given by you, roughly i scored 70..
    Answers to many of the questions were not in memory hence dint marked them in the test-score sheet..roughly they should be correct..
    what are the chances of bagging a call from SIBM-bang. And SCMHRD?

    • Shyami, last year the SC category cut off for SIBM Pune was 56, this year I expect it to be 60. SCMHRD should be around 55 and all the others should be around 45-50.

    I scored a 107.25 according to this test except the excluded questions. So I am expecting a score in the range of 100-105 to say the worst. According to your answers above, SIBM, Pune should (still) be an outside chance as it would not be prudent expecting before the real cutoffs are out. If I am to prepare for SCMHRD-what should my PoA be for the coming month? What should I be doing in the days that are left?

    • Tripti, at 75-80 SIBM, SCMHRD, SIOM and SIIB are out. You have a chance in the remaining Symbiosis institutes, please apply based on your area of interest.

I had attended yours all webinar this year which have helped me lot in my preparation.Sir there are lot of saying regarding SNAP that this year paper was easy so cut off is around 110 for SIBM-P and 105 for SCMHRD.     • Tarun, I don’t think 110 is possible for SIBM-P, the highest it can go to is 103-105. In your case SCMHRD is on, start preparing for the personality assessment stage.

    • Viral, you should expect a call from both the institutes. About 2200 students get a call from both these institutes combined.

    • Nishant, You have an outside chance in SCMHRD and should most probably get a call from SIBM-B, SIOM and SIIB. SCIT can also be considered because it offers MBA in Systems.

    • Sashank, these are the best ones for you and should be sufficient. You should get a call from all of these except from SIBM Pune.

    • Aditi, with 102/173 you will get a call from SIIB and most probably from SIBM Pune also. Hope you have applied to SCMHRD also. As a back up you can apply to SIBM Bangalore.

    I’m getting a score of 98 (excluding the 8 marks that are not yet solved in the CL key) which would fetch me atleast another 4 marks making my score go to 102. Thus, expecting calls from both SIBM-P and SCMHRD.

    Do both of these colleges consider profile also while calling for GD/PI or for the final selection? Please enlighten.

    • Aditya, interview calls from SNAP Institutes are on the basis of SNAP score only. Profile comes into play only for the final list.

    • Bharat, with 85/173 you have an outside chance of a call from SIIB and SIBM Bangalore. The other institutes that you can consider and from which you will most probably get calls are SIOM Nasik and SCIT.

    • Rohit, KM quota is the most difficult to predict since it has only a couple of seats, but you should be able to get a call from at least one of SIIB or SCMHRD or SIBM. Do apply to SIBM Bangalore also.

    • Ishan, SIOM is a good back up institute for Engineers and has decent placement track record. Most of the placements are in manufacturing, IT, services and consulting.

    • Misa, last year the SIBM cutoff for ST category was 38 so at 60 you will get a call at 60 from all SIBM, SCMHRD and other Symbiosis Institutes.

    • Amit, The intake of SCMHRD is 240 and that of SIBM Pune is 180, the number of students who get a call would be 6-7 times the intake.

    • Vaishali, Royal Enfield question is being corrected, the correct answer is Eicher Motors. The good new is that everyone goes up by 1.25 marks. Please check after 5 minutes.

    • Ayush, SIIB is possible but SCMHRD is unlikely. Hopefully you will get another 3-4 marks out of the reaming 8 marks which should improve your chances.

    • Gourav, last year the SIBM cut off for SC category was 56 this year it is likely to go up by 4-5 marks, hence yours is a borderline case however you should be able to get calls from all other Symbiosis institutes.

  91. Sir,i did 100 question with 70% accuracy (less because of GK and eng).
    can i apply for SCIT, is it good college for MBA-IT…?
    expected cutoff of this colg.?
    I’m CS final year student with 84% in 10 nd 12th (UP board).
    and 67% in my btech.

    • Isha, as mentioned in my reply to your another query, SCIT is a decent back up option and I expect its cutoff to be around 75.

  92. Sir, I have attempted around 57 one mark qns(QA,VA and GA) and 28 LR qns… My GA is very low and attended only 7 and only one is wrong in it… What colleges can I realistically expect to get a call from?

    There is one more exam left for me for this season “tiss”.Please guide me on preparation(area to concentrate,especially social awarness section) and also please tell some thing about the paper(not able to find any previous year papers in the net).Kindly help.thank you.

    • Kumar, we will be holding a session on TISS this week. While a change in pattern has been announced for the paper this year but the questions are likely to be similar to what has appeared earlier. It is like an easier SNAP.

  100. Sir I have 2 questions,this was my first attempt at SNAP..didn’t go that well:

    1> what about the cut offs of the associated institutes?SCIT,SITM, SIOM,SiMC?

    2>How is SIHS as an institute?I am a BTech CSE grad 2012 fresher,and I am interested in Hospital mgmt too.. are there any chances?
    Desperately need your advice sir.

    There was a question on partnership which went like “A,B and C” are three partners in a business, A invests 20000/- .Out of a total profit of 2000 if A gets 1000 and B gets 600 how much does C get?” .Can you please explain how to go about solving a question like this? Also I would like to add that few of the questions in LR were twisted in the similar way like the above question..for eg a question based on the seating order of 8 sportsmen on a round table.

    • profits of each were given. ratio of profits will be same as ratio of their investments..if i ‘m right answer was 8000

      • shayad the investment of c comes out at rs 8000 and the lr question regarding 10 sportsmen was a compicated one bt if one goes through option one wud be able to comprehend wt was it all abt

    • Actually you have seen the question wrongly….. there it was to find the share of C in investement…..
      ok .
      solution is here:-
      total profit =rs 2000
      A’s share = rs 1000
      B’s share = rs 600
      therefore C’s share in profit = rs 400

      now ‘
      according to the question,
      principal invested by A = 50% of the total investement. (because he get’s 50% of the total profit)

      therefore total principal = rs 40,000
      now principal invested by C = rs (40,000*400)/2000
      =rs 8000
