SNAP 2014 Cutoffs

The analysis of SNAP’14 was an interesting exercise.

After the test, the consensus was that SNAP’14 was similar (pattern-wise) to SNAP’13 , however, many felt that due to a slightly difficult Reasoning and Quant section the scores could fall drastically. The data submitted by all of you however gave a similar picture, if we do away with the word ‘drastically.’

The data suggests that the difficulty level of SNAP’14 was surely on the higher side as compared to the last couple of years, however, it was probably not as difficult as it seemed at first glance.

While the Reasoning section was considered to be tough the average attempts were on the higher side as compared to first impressions. On the other hand, Quantitative aptitude and Verbal Reasoning were sections where people have scored high.

Surprisingly the GK section which was the toughest of the last few years had some students doing exceptionally well while most have performed as expected.

Overall, with the SNAP score being the only criteria for interview calls this year the expected cut offs are likely to fall by about 9-10 marks rather than 14-15 marks, as was initially anticipated.

The table below gives our estimate of the cutoff marks (out of 180) based on your inputs. The percentile cutoffs have been assumed to be the same as that of last year based on the following:

  1. The number of candidates who have taken SNAP’14 is almost the same as that of SNAP’13.
  2. The number of applicants in each institute this year will be similar to the number of applicants last year.
  3. The institutes will maintain the same ratio of number of interview calls to seats.

The SNAP’13 cutoff percentile was not available for some of the reserved categories in a few institutes and has been kept blank. It would however be safe to assume that the cutoffs for these categories will be significantly less than that of general category. Some of these programs do receive so few applications that all reserved category students will definitely get interview calls.

Please remember that these cut offs are estimates and the actual cutoffs could be lower by a couple of marks.

All students who meet the above criteria should immediately start preparing for the next stage, remember that the personality assessment stage has a 50% weight and a low SNAP score can easily be compensated by a good performance in this stage. SNAP interviews typically start in early February and delaying your PDP classes till SNAP results are declared could lead to a insufficient preparation time.

For those who are not aware, the weights in the final selection of all SNAP institutes for various components of the selection process are:

  1. SNAP score out of 180 scaled down to 50 marks                 50
  2. Group Exercise (GE)                                                                 10
  3. Personal Interaction (PI)                                                         30
  4. Writing Ability Test (WAT)                                                       10 Total                                                                                        100

The students who are missing the above estimated cut offs (and also the others) should focus on XAT and TISS where a good performance will lead to options in many good B schools.

All the best.

  1. Respected Sir, I just wanted to ask that even if we score slightly less in snap exam, i mean if the cutt-off is 90 for sibm bangalore and if we score 85 then do we get a call if we have already registered in the college, because for snap we have to first register for the college. And snap test weightage is 50% and rest is for 50% so some say that if we score few less in snap test still we can get a call and then score well in GE-PWAT..

  2. Sir,
Firstly , Is kpo experience counted as relevAnt for a b school??Secondly, am working in an us insurance kpo I am confused as to in which line I should do mba,.It will be relevant if do MBA in insurance in nia pune., or iirm Hyderabad, but do these colleges give good placement or should I go for MBA in finance from a top b school. But will my insurance kpo experience will be counted in finance.Kindly, advice,??Thirdly, do I need to do some insurance certifications to make my CV relevant???

    • Saswat, an MBA from NIA will not add much to your profile. You should target top B-schools. Refer to our article jaye that shows the list of B-schools and order of preference which will help you to take final call.

You can do Certified HIPAA Administrator course (CHA) and Certified HIPAA Professional course (CHA) to add to your insurance qualifications and skills.

  3. sir i have converted SIBM HYD, SIMC SIIB E &E, GREAT LAKES GURGAON PGPME 2 year course option. I have also applied for WE school. Sir according to you which college should be prefferd. I have to start my MBA this year

  4. Hi Sir
I converted SITM and SCIT. Which one is better? I completed my bachelor in Electronics and Communication and having 36 months of Experience in IT. Below are my 2 doubts :
    1. If I want to choose a one which one is better SITM or SCIT ?
    2. Is it worth to join SITM/SCIT or should I try for next year.

    • Raj, between SCIT & SITM my preference is for SITM. However with a 36 month work experience it will be better for you to go for a retake only if can improve your CAT/XAT score to at least 95%ile or SNAP score to 97%ile. Also in case of retake you should take GMAT and try for ISB Hyderabad and GL Chennai PGPM.

  5. Dear Sir,

I have got 35 percentile in SNAP and I have received calls from SIOM and SIBM Bangalore.Apart from that , I have 82 % in X,79 in XII and 84 % in Graduation with 30 months of work exp in MNC.

With so much low score in SNAP,do I stand a chance to convert these two specially SIOM. Kindly reply as I am confused.

    • Shyam, with a awork ex of 30 months you should not cosnider going to thgese colleges. It will be better if you give it another year.

      • Thanks for the info Sir.But in SIOM website avg ctc (for lateral) is given around 9.20 and it can be comparable with good Institute like IMT Ghaziabad/KJ Somaiya. Also fees structure is less than others.Sir it would be very helpful if you can explain the reason for your suggestion .

PS :- I belong to reserve category

        • Shyam, since you have 30 months of work ex, we expact that your current package should be around 6-7 LPA. A 9 LPA package won’t be a big boost to your career and it can even happen with a mere job switch. There for you must be looking at colleges that take you to a 13 – 14 LPA level.

  6. Sir,
i secured 28.5 percentail in snap( SC Catergory) and got shortlist in sibm banglore and hyderabad. Is there any chance of getting banglore, if i perform good in GE/PI since my score is very low. Sir Need your guidance please…….!!!!!

    • Amudhan, chances of converting now depedn on your performance in stage-2 and with a good performance you have good chances of making it.

    • Meghna, we would recommend you to take CAT 2016 and the other exams and aim for a better score. You must pick up a job if you don’t have one already.

  7. Greetings Sir,

I am B.tech graduate having done my B.tech in IT from IIIT-A.
    My acads are
    10th-73
    12th-61
    Grad-7.26(2014)
    ST category
workex-5 months(I quit later which was very foolish of me)
    CAT2015 : 47 %ile
i dropped in 2015, gave my cat and the results were terrible with an OA : 47 percentile . So at present i have call from sibm pune but i really aim for IIM’s or FMS and i haven’t been working anywhere for now. I could either try my luck at doing MBA this year but deep within i want to be in IIM’s. taking a year off again would be a big gap in terms of experience(would be 2 years from my graduation) . So if could please guide me through this. I am confused as of now, what to do?

    Few other queries :
    1. what factors does IIM placement depends on? do they consider one’s whole background(education uptill now) or just the performance during the course.
    2. Is it worth settling for sibm pune when one aims for IIM’s?

    GP sir please help.
    Thanks.

    • AspireCAT, Once you are at a top B-school your previous academic performance doesnt really matter as it gets overshadowed by your performance in the institute. Placements at the IIMs and the other top B-schools will not be a problem. Since you are hopeful you should be looking at CAT’16

  8. What is GE (Group Exercise)?
Is it GD or something else?
What else do I need to prepare for appearing to GE-PIWAT for SIMS.

    • Manish, in a GE, groups are allotted 30 minutes time for the Group Exercise (GE). Typically, each group comprises around 6 candidates. In the GE, the group is given a topic / task and are asked to implement / execute the task in a stipulated time. Typically, 20-25 minutes are allotted for execution of the task and 5-10 minutes for presentation of what had been done by the team.

Some of the tasks given for the group exercise have been –
      1. Present campaigns for 5 animal contestants. This is to introduce democracy in the jungle and end the lion’s dictatorship.
      2. Street play aimed at rural audience, theme was preventing female feticide.
      3. Choose a brand ambassador for HP laser jet printer and create a jingle for the same.
      4. Enact a satirical TV news channel where the anchor could be anybody from a baba to a dancer.

  9. Hello sir,

I have got a score of 57.347 percentile in snap and I am looking to get admission into SIMC Pune or SSMC bangalore. With such a low score will i get a call? I am confused and worried as my snap score is just 33.35…please reply

  10. Hello sir.. my snap percentile is 88.39.. but i have a negative mark of 0.5 in gk.. i have applied for sitm… can i get a call from sitm..n should i apply for other colleges like siom.. pls reply

  11. sir ,

i am expecting very less marks this year in snap . moreovr i cannot drop another year .
i want to apply to a low ranked symb coll . whr cut offs will be less could u suggest me some
i have SIBM HYD SITM SIMC bang as my options.
Also will applying to SITM be worth , will i gt placed? bcz i am an advertising grad. Plz reply soon sir

    • Ankita, practice the level-1 and level-2 problems. Utilize test gym. But most importantly, take more mocks and analyse them.

  12. Hi sir!
I am a Dental Surgeon.. and am taking SNAP exam this year.. so what’s the cut off for SIHS.. and attempting how many no. questions will help me to make through..

    • Akankshya, there was no specific cutoff for it last year. Just make sure that you get a non-negative score in each section. Then just maximise the score.

  13. hi,
i belong to defence open category.
could you plz tell me how much do i need to score out of 180 to get a call from SIMS pune ?
also what does “converting a call” mean ?
    thanku

    • Ankita, there was no specific cutoff for it last year. Just ensure that you dont get negative score in any section. ‘Converting a call’ means cracking an interview and getting into that B-school.

  14. sir, i am going to appear in SNAP 2015 (20th dec) i belongs to ST category. i only applied in sibm pune for MBA.. i want to know that what would be standard marks of sibm pune so i can get call from pune …thank you

  15. Hello sir.
    I belong to SC category
    No work experience
I do well in all sections
Can u please guide me with the marks required to clear SNAP exam out of 180
    For SIBM PUNE
    SIIB
    SCMHRD
    Thank u.

  16. Hello sir,
I wanted to know that What %ile in snap exam is required to get into sims Pune and also the ranking of the same college. And can you please give me the detail about the ISB Hyderabad that how to apply, what score, which exam etc.

    • Garima, SIMS Pune cutoff is likely to be around 50-55%ile. It is a decent institute and can be considered favourably.

  17. Hi,
I have a year’s work experience from Goldman Sachs, I was wondering if there are institutes that factor in the reputation of the company or the quality of work experience would it make any difference. Is there any way I can work it to my advantage?Math is weak spot,so cat is out of the equation. Thanks for your time.

    • just wondering, while the reputation of the company and the quality of work experience do not have give any direct benefit, these are helpful in the interview.

    • Siddharth, this is a function of the degree of difficulty of the paper. My estimate is that last year a score of 80 would have been around 90%ile

    • Nikhil, these are new programs and should be looked at best as back up options. Will need to wait for a couple of years for industry acceptance and placements. These two can be looked upon as back up options.
Between the two SIBM is likely to be a better option due to location and the better branding of SIBM Pune.

  18. Sir,
I am weak in maths, but I am fairly strong in VA, LR and to some extent even DI. I get am getting a 90 percentile with a score of ~74 in mock 1 of SNAP. But only 61 percentile in Maths. With almost a month to SNAP, could you please suggest a few topics which i should be spending my time the most to increase my percentile by 6 points at least.

  19. Hi Sir,
For this year’s snap..first round cuttoffs wiil be decided just by written test or will they add up academic records and give an overall percentile??

  20. Hello Sir,

I am currently preparing for MBA entrances and i will be appearing for NMAT, IIFT, CAT , SNAP, XAT AND MICAT.
My maths is quite weak and my english and LR are strong. I want to pursue a course in COMMUNICATION MANAGEMENT or ADVERTISING . So which exam should i give more importance as i dont think i will fare well in CAT.
Also please tell me which is a good communication management related course in apart from MICA and SIMC.

    Thanks

    • Saanand, you could focus on SNAP as it is an easier paper wrt Maths and good GK+Reasoning can help you get a high score.
MICA is way ahead of SIMC which is at best a back up option. For communication, apat from MICA you should look at a MBA Marketing in any top MBA institute.

  21. SSC: 87.07 (2009)
    HSC: 70.50 (2011)
    BCom: 4.46 GPA (2014)

No job experience, hence a gap till December 2015 when I will appear for SNAP. Am I eligible? How much score should I target? Compared to SIBM Pune, how is SIBM Bangalore and Hyderabad?

    • Ruchit, your gap year does not make you ineligible and a good performance in SNAP and the interview can get you a final call.
SIBM Pune and SCMHRD would need around 97.5%ile for an interview call and SIBM Blr would be around 93-94%ile.
The three SIBMs are at different levels – SIBM Pune is a top 25 MBA institute while SIBM Blr would be around 55-60 and SIBM Hyd around 80.

  22. Hello sir ,

I am currently working in an IT company with 50 months of work experience and belonged to SC category.

Could you please let me know what should be the minimum percentile needed to get into IIM for CAT 2015 exam and other good colleges under XAT 2015 and SNAP 2015 exams .

  23. Can you suggest me which institutes among SIU will accept an average SNAP score? because my son is an avg student. may be, a little more than avg.. 10th- 88%, 12th- 90%, Degree- 62%. ..I wanted to know this because in order to pay the fee for individual institutes. Please help

    • Haritha, it always pays to be optimistic about the performance in exams like SNAP. You must apply to SIBM Pune, SCMHRD and SIIB. Along with these you could apply to SIBM Bangalore and, based on the specialization your son is interested in, any one between SITM and SIOM.

    • Bapi, your SIS has sufficient resources to help you tackle the GK section. The GK Compendiums & Question Banks, GK videos of IIFT/SNAP/XAT are more than sufficient for the preparation of this section. You must go through the Daily GK Update on the SIS and the mobile app, mSIS, to keep be abreast with the current affairs.

    • Avinash, SIBM/SCMHRD considered X/XII/Graduation marks for 2014-16 admissions but have not considered them earlier or for 2015-17 admissions and would shortlist candidates based on SNAP score only.

  24. HELLO SIR ,

    i am a commerce graduate( B.com- 2014) , fresher.
i m wait listed at SITM pune and hopefully i will convert.

the other option i have is sdmimd and christ main campus.

    what shoud i do sir?

will sitm be favorable to a fresher commerce graduate??

    please revert.

    Thank you sir,

    • Debapriya, SITM Pune followed by SDMIMD is my suggestion for you. Being a fresher from commerce background will not be a disadvantage.

  25. Sir,

I have 3 years of experience (16 months IT and 2 years NGO – TFI) with an interest in HR.

Right now I have converted SOIL – HRLP gurgaon programme and SIBM – Hyderabad. Which college I should choose for HR?
    Please tell in detail?

      • Sir,

What about the SIBM brand sir? Don’t you think, it would be an asset whereas SOIL is not very known school.

        • Prashant, SIBM Hyderabad is a new B school and will take a few years to establish itself also it is likely to have only freshers. SOIL offers a 1 year program which will save you an year and it has decent placements.

  26. Sir,

I have converted SIBM – Hyderabad and SOIL – Gurgaon for HR.
I am interested only for HR and have 3 years of work exp. (16 months IT – Wipro and 24 months NGO – Teach for India Fellow)

What’s your stand. Where should I take admission?

  27. Hi Sir,

I have 3 years of experience in IT. Is it okay if I do MBA ITBM from SCIT pune and then again join my past employer. Our company offers leave without pay option for this college.

    • Amit, if this will give a boost to your career then it is fine as SITM is a decent institute but ideally you should go for a retake of CAT/XAT/SNAP. Also take GMAT and try for ISB Hyderabad also. Great Lakes Chennai PGPM (1 year program) would be another good option.

  28. Respected sir,

Im an Electronics and communication graduate. I have been selected for NICMAR ACM, PUNE while i also have call for PI , and GD from SIMC pune, IMT NAGPUR & HYDERBAD, NMIMS BANGALORE & HYDERABAD campus. I am confused about attending SIMC gd pi. Please tell me about reputation of simc and whether it will be worth to attend the PI of it or leave it and attend IMT and NMIMS. Also, please tell about NICMAR placements considering i am an electronics graduate and NICMAR being a civil oriented college.

    • Annu, among the institutes mentioned by you NM Bangalore and IMT Nagpur are the best. NICMAR offers a sectoral MBA program and hence has restricted placements opportunities. SIMC Pune can be considered only if you are interested in marketing, it can be a back up option. The average salary of NICMAR would be around Rs 5 lakh pa.

  29. sir,
SITM (Sys & Fin) called for GE/PI Wat process for a very less cutoff of around 33%ile in snap 14 for general category and me too got shortlisted with a mere 40.

What are my chances of getting into it having 40 %ile of snap, good academic profile and 1.6 years experience in IT industry?

  30. Sir can you please guide me whether SIHS Pune is a good option or not? I am a B.Com student and am looking forward not to drop one year. I have scored 54.25 marks (61.48 Percentile) in SNAP 2014.

  31. Sir,
i got 71.091%ile in snap 2014 with 60.5 score in Kashmiri migrant category …n i have been shortlisted for SCMHRD MBA. …sir should i go or not…coz i wasn’t expecting the call seeing the analysis …but now wn i hav got it m in dilemma whether to go all the way to pune for GEPIWAT or not ….as i newez would b in the bottom of the list coz f my low score.. N I also havent started preparing fo it..so i wonder whether i really have a chance dr or not ……
    2) sir i hav filled SIBM P, SCMHRD P,SIIB PUNE,SIBM BANG……sir plz let me know which of these institute is really worth joining as i hav to take loan for getting into these institutes…
    3) sir i had started preparing for MHCET 2015 but now due to this GEPIWAT in SCMHRD m confused …whether to go to pune from jammu (myplace) or focus on mhcet 2015 where i still have a chance..as going fo interview will cost me atleast 10 days 7-10 days roughly …so dat time can be crucial for my prepartion….Guide me sir asap pleaseeeeeeeeee….scmhrd slot bookings to start on 20 jan ….plz answer early sir…dates r coming…

    • Umang, apologise for missing out on your query. Hope you attended the interview. Call me at 9811155160 in case you need to discuss.

  32. Dear Sir,
I am now working in South Indian Bank for the last 19 months. This time he appeared for Snap and got only 50.66 percentile. I actually opted only for the Pune Institutes. Will I get a chance? I am from general category. I have also opted online for the SIBM Hyderabad now. Is there any cut off percentile for it?

  33. I have scored 47% in my graduation(B.A)and now i want to do M.B.A (Entrepreneurship). Can anyone suggest me for which entrance exam i am eligible. And can i get into a good B-School ?
    Kindly, suggest .

  34. sir,
why siom-nashik ranking is so bad (around70-80)?
it’s average ctc is 8.77 lpa overall which is equal to IMT gaziabad
and more than both GIM and KJ somiya (7.8lpa).

and for laterals in siom average is 9.31lpa as per their website

got 89.84% in snap , 96.15% in CMAT gen. category
    b.tech. 2012 , exp.-almost 3 years , power sector

and also is there any chances in waiting list of SCMHRD?

    • Mayank, Operations Management is a specialised course and which gives limited opportunities hence it is lower than the others. If you are clear about specialising in Operations then SIOM is preferable to the others.
Waiting list is not there for interview short list.

  35. Hello Sir,

I have obtained a percentile of 97.07 in SNAP 2014. I have applied for SIBM P, SCMHRD, SCMHRD IM, SIIB. However after performing poorly in CAT (Overall percentile: 89.92) and XAT, SNAP is my last chance.

I am a mechanical engineer from Jadavpur University having 28 months experience in engineering consultancy in a private organization with a CTC of 5 lpa right now. Probably this is my last chance to get into a decent b-school. In such a situation, I am in a dilemma whether to apply for SIOM considering my profile.

Also please suggest whether I should try for another year considering the fact my work-ex will go up to more than 3 years and work pressure on the rise. My job profile requires me to devote long hours at work with not much time left for study. Also my CAT percentile in 2014 has been uncannily similar to 2013 with no improvement. Can leaving job be an option if I cant manage a good B-school this year? Please advise.

  36. HI Sir,

    I got 80.7%, General Category.
    Xth-82.4
    XII-94.4
    UG-73.6
    Work Experience is 18 months

I have applied for SIBM-H and SIIB. Thinking of applying to SIOM. Please suggest.

  37. Sir, many candidates are trying to get the paper re-evaluated. So if that happens, will it be done for all or only the ones who requested it? how will they shortlist the candidates if that happens? Will they release a new score card for everyone? Shall I send an email too to get my paper re-evaluated considering if they considered only for the ones who is sending an email, they will get more marks n may even go ahead of my scores? 🙁 please suggest sir

    • Rohit, if re-evaluation happens then it will happen for all candidates and all candidates will have a new score card. However I do not think that SNAP will do anything.

      • Sir, I am concerned because someone posted on pg that snap authorities said there would not be mass re-evaluation and they are asking for snap id’s of all those candidates who are emailing them. This will be unfair to us who are now in a comfortable position as that will just shake the foundation of everything. if they do it for everyone, then it is fine because then I will get at least 8-10 marks more. so, I am in a dilemma, shall I mail them my id too or wait for the things to progress n see how it falls for everyone else? any suggestions?

  38. Dear Sir,
I received 96.7826 percentile in SNAP. Is there a chance for SCMHRD? Many people are requesting SNAP authorities to reevaluate since marks secured are well below expected scores. So is the case with my VA & LR scores. Will the shortlisting be done as per only new percentile or both (old and new).

    Thanks in advance.

  39. Hi GP,

I have a 99.5 percentile in SNAP.My profile is below:
    X-90
    XII-88
    B.tech -74
Work Ex – 2 yrs and 6 months(as of june)

I am getting a bit confused now as I dont really want to join SIBM Pune even if I do get it, my dream colleges have always been IIT D IIT B or NITIE, but I wont be getting into them because i got a pathetic 87.5. Also I missed the IIFT cutoff by .7

Do you think I should give it another try as by this July my work ex will become 36 months(and by the time I join it will be 43 months hence my points will drop for work ex) and I think many colleges have lesser marks for a higher number of work ex months and I am getting a bit scared by thinking that even if I get a good percentile I might not get into a good college. Is this true for the above colleges??and also for other IIMs??

As to join now or if there is still time and there is still hope for me

Kindly help me in my dilemma.

    A troubled mind

    • Shayantu, This is a very difficult decision for anyone and I can understand the dilemma. However the decision has to be taken by you based on an objective assessment of your strengths and weakness. To me the work ex marks are not very important, it is the CAT percentile that will determine your chances of call from the top institutes and if you are looking at IIM ABC then a score of 99.7%ile will be required to be sure of calls. IIT Mumbai & FMS will need 99%ile and a minimum of 97.5%ile should be your target for MDI, NITIE etc.
SIBM Pune is a very good institute and unless you are sure of your CAT’15 performance I would recommend joining it as it too will give you a very good career.

      • How does SIBM Pune stack against IIT D IITB NITIE and IIFT??
Also , can you tell me if more than 4 yrs of work ex while joining the institute will hamper my selection process or not?

  40. Hi ,

I have secured 91 pecentile with 3 years work Exp . Is there a chance for SIBM Pune.?

    Regards,
    S Srinivasan.

  41. GP sir, My SNAP percentile is 69.69 and I have not applied for any institutes other than SIBM – P, Shall I consider SIBM Hyderabad please guide me on this

  42. Hi sir
Will the SIBM P cut off drop this year?( Atleast by .3 %ile ?)
Any idea of number of test takers in SNAP 13 and 14?
    My %ile is 97.32.

    Regards

  43. Sir,

i got 69 precentile in SNAP and it is way below my expectation score and i believe there is some problem with VA score..please share your view on the same, and I’m SC student so what are my chances for SIBM P and SCHMRD

    waiting for your revert

  47. Hello Sir,

95.5749 %ile @ 85.5 marks. What are my chances for SCMHRD ? Do they consider acads also for shortlisting ?

    Regards,
    Piyush

    • Piyush, you might miss out on SCMHRD as the cutoff is likely to be over 96%ile. Acads is not considered for shortlisting.

  48. Sir,
my snap score is 83.00 and percentile 94.288 . Do i stand a chance for scmhrd pune ?
when will the cut offs come out ?

  49. Hello Sir,
I got 64.75 marks i.e 76.95% in SNAP.I have applied only for SIBM-P & SCMHRD.I belong to SC category. Can i expect a call or it would be a borderline case?

  50. Sir,
    SNAP percentile – 77.3
General, BBE graduate, with 2.5 years of experience in Consulting Operations Analytics

Applied for SIBM pune and SCMHRD, but since can’t consider them now. Should I apply for SIMC CM?
Please suggest, as per my profile and also the institute’s standing w.r.t. to the MBA courses.
Looking forward to your revert soon.
    Thanks

  51. my score in snap is 69 and %ile is 82.13 so can i get a call from sitm , simc pune? and simc banglore is good back up option?

  52. Sir,

I am a hug fan and admirer of you and CL since 2012. I sincerely believe that you guys provide the best support for CAT and other MBA entrance exams. However, with your and thousands of students’ best interests at heart, I suggest that you stick to teaching and give up PREDICTING. CAT scores and percentiles were not even remotely close to your blog-post ‘CAT 2014: How many attempts for an IIM call?’ (which claimed correct attempts of 40-41 questions will fetch around 97 percentile, though in reality it fetched 87) and the attempt-based percentile predictor was equally pathetic. Many students (including myself) ended up setting wrong target-scores and applied for wrong colleges based on these estimations/predictions.

Now the SNAP results are out, I am pretty certain (having observed some score-percentile combinations) that the above predictions are going to turn out just as wrong (by a large margin). Please do not (unwillingly) mislead the aspirants. Keep providing us your awesome guidance regarding the preparations.

    Best wishes.

  53. Hello sir,
I have scored 88.07 percentile in SNAP, exact marks obtained are 74.5. Do i have a chance for SCMHRD, Pune?

  54. SIR GOT 73.5 percentile in snap. applied only SIBM -P and SCMHRD… category-SC. is it possible to get call from both of these?

  55. sir,

I am from Defence special category, I have applied for Sims.

According to you what would be the cutoff for Defence special category in SNAP-2014???

  56. Hello GP Sir,
I have applied for SIBM, Pune (Innov. & Intra.) along with other institutes and I am getting 91.75 as per SNAP score calculator. Sir can you give me an idea regarding the cut off for this particular course?

    Thank you Sir.

  57. Sir i have done B.D.S.
can u please tell me whether sihs is good option or not?
whether there is growth in ds field or not?
what is the average package offered?

    • Abhishek, SIHS is a sectoral program and hence has limited placement opportunities. A general management program is a better option.

  58. Hi GP Sir,

Appreciations for your priceless guidance. I am getting around 75 in SNAP. Can SSBF be considered as a reasonable option?
Has it made any considerable growth since the cut off as predicted has gone pretty high compared to SITM.

    Regards
    Sanjay

    • Sanjay, cut off is a function of the number of applications and it is possible that it will be lower than what we have estimated. My data suggests that SSBF would take a few years before it reaches the level of SITM.

      • .Thank you for the clarification. Is Telecom management a good course to apply even if I am not from Electronics/communications background, because I ve been working with CTS for 15 months. Should I consider working for another year and give the exam next year hoping that I ll be able to crack into the top 3 symbi colleges or some other reputed colleges with other exams. Plz advice Sir.

  59. Hi GP,
as per snap calculator i got 97.6 marks…is there any chance for sibm pune. my academics are good n i hav 18 months wrk ex.

Also in cat i have 90.68 plz suggest if i shud apply fr imi delhi n imt gaziabad

    • Swastik, Hopefully we have over estimated the cut offs and you will get a call. Unfortunately SNAP does not have any weight for academics in SNAP this year. Similarly work experience also will not help in getting an interview call.
You will most probably get a call from IMT and IMI.

      • Thanks for the advice, also i was wondering if i should be applying to JBIMS with my CAT score. Any replies to this is highly appreciated

  60. Sir,
Does the process of normalization take place in SNAP as well? Or will the raw scores be the final scores?

    Regards
    Hriday Bajaj

  61. Sir, I am a fresher and will be completing my graduation this year.
my CAT score is 61% and dec. MAT-88%, I got some mails and calls from colleges like Alliance, Jaipuria, JIMS,EMPI for interview.
sir I am confused between a retake for CAT or I should join Jaipuria noida without wasting my academic year ?

    • Kaushal, go for a retake only if you are sure that you can increase your CAT/XAT score to over 90%ile. However most of the institutes that will give you a call at these scores are avoidable. Please check with the current students to validate their placement data before you join any of these.

  62. CAT OA-96.64
    QA-98.13
    VA-85.19

    10th=83.8%
    12th-81%
    Btech NIT durgapur-78.4%
    Work ex-18 months L&T

from wch clges can i expect a call?? i am G.E.M

  63. Dear sir,

    My CAT percentile is 83.34
    QA & DI 80.39
    VA & LR 80.59

    Decent academics
    Work Experience-3 years 3 months
From which colleges can I expect a call or 1 more year of preparation will be better.

    Regards
    Arka

  64. Sir,
I got less CAT percentile this time, I belong to General category. I wrote SNAP and getiing 80+ score, should I apply to SIOM or should I attempt CAT again to get into top B-school. What is the scope of good career after doing MBA from SIOM or SCIT.
Please suggest. I regularly visit your site as it is the best for MBA aspirants.

    • Sharif, SIOM and SCIT are both good institutes and can be considered favourably. While SIOM will give you a career in operations, SCIT effectively offers a MBA in Systems. Go for the area that you want to specialise in.
Go for a retake only if you are sure of at least a 90%ile in CAT’15.

  65. sir according to cl predictor i am getng 69 marks nd belong to sc category . i hv filled sibm pune, bangalore and smchrd, can i gt call from these colleges or should i also fill sitm as i hv dn my b.tech in ece.

  67. GP Sir,
I have a B-Plan & want to execute it in MBA College.
How will you rate MBA in Innovation & Intrapreneurship in SIBM -Pune.
While reading its curriculum & reputation of SIBM-Pune, it seemed good option for me.

How will u rate it sir???

    • Ajay, it is a new program so difficult to comment on it. However given that it is SIBM Pune I would treat it as a good back up option.

  68. @gp sir.

Sir from what IIM’s can i expect a call? And sir what is my chance of conversion given my low graduation percentage.
    Thanks

    • Divay, apologise for missing out on your query.
Hopefully you have received calls from some of the IIMs, a good performance in the Interview and WAT will ensure conversion, work ex and acads are not very important at this stage.

  71. Hi GP sir ,

There is generally a 10 mark difference between SIBM and SCMHRD cutoffs . but in your predictions , there is only a difference of 5 marks

  72. sir,

    thank you

  73. Sir , I am scoring 93.5 in SNAP so I m expecting 90-95 snap score….. I have applied to SIBM Pune & SCMHRD should I expect Call from SCMHRD and SIBM pune or Not….??
For futher preparation about Cat Sir I have score 99 in quants section and 47 in verbal that too because of logical reasoning….Must do things to atleast push my score to 95+ in verbal section

  75. Hello Sir,
I am unable to open the link for snap b school advisory on CL as it shows Servlet Exception. Is there any other method I can check this?

  76. Sir, I have got 90.05% in CAT 2014 65 in va-lr and 96 in quant-di. What should I do? I can also drop a year for CAT 2015 as I want to go to one of the top b-schools. Pls suggest me something.

  77. Hi GP Sir,

You have not given the cutoff for sims open category which hold 80% of the seats in sims.

i am getting 56 acc to CL Calc. Should i expect a call from sims ?
    i am from defence background

  78. Respected sir,

And sir my cat score is 69.63%ile plzzz guide me which college I can apply for …….
    Thanx

    • Jatin, pleae refer to the table above for the institutes from where you can get a call.
SIIB E & E is yet to establish itself but can be considered as a back up option.

  79. sir, can you pls tell me what according to you would be the cut for SIMS Pune ‘Defense Open’ category? You have only mentioned about the defense special category.

  80. Sir, which one is for SCMHRD? What would be the expected cut off for that?Any chances of cut off falling below that estimated here?

  81. Dear Sir,
Are these 2013 cutoffs or estimated 2014 cutoffs. And I wanted to know whether question paper was same for all sets since some questions differ for my set (set P) with the CL memory based paper.
