Hard work will pay off, eventually – Deepthi, Class of 2023, IIMC

When Sreeni Sir asked me to share my story, I thought that my story will not be inspiring to anyone, because all my past 4 years what I have seen is nothing but failure. I lost confidence in myself.

But then, after that long interaction with Sreeni Sir, I realized, not only me, but there will also be so many people who are having gap years and must be having self-doubt of clearing CAT. I am sharing my story, so that, it can be of value to aspirants like me.

Let me introduce myself. I am Deepthi from Andhra Pradesh. I completed my graduation in JNTUA in 2017. Right from childhood I have been an average student.  Throughout my career, one who believed me more than myself, is my dad. He never gave up on me. I have managed to qualify in JEE mains in my inter but I couldn’t get a seat in NIT. I joined in my state university.

After the BTech I had decided to prepare for civil services. In first attempt, I prepared on my own; second attempt I took coaching and third attempt I gave it with self-preparation. Nothing worked out. I couldn’t even clear prelims. So disappointed, I was pondering about my path ahead. My family and friends also supported me a lot. I wrote many competitive exams, state level exams, banking. That made me strong in reasoning, quantitative aptitude, and English.

Then my dad and uncle advised me to write CAT. I was not sure whether I am ready to attempt. I just revised what I have learnt all these days. I practiced previous year papers and attempted a very few mocks. I went to the exam center without any fear because I know CAT is a tough exam, I was writing without proper preparation, and it was ok even I did not clear this time. I gave my 100 % in the examination hall. Reasoning and English – I did not face any problem with them, but quant section is a hard nut for me. To my surprise I scored 90+ percentile. Even though I got interview calls from most of the IIMs, interview was a big hurdle to me. After UPSC interviews, IIM interviews are the toughest.

Then CL PDPP came into picture. I have interacted with my mentor siddarth sir and explained all my fears then he encouraged me that I’m not the only one with such profile. Then I prepared for interviews with utmost sincerity. I attended the interviews. For each interview, I tried to correct my mistakes that I had committed in the previous one.

The results came. I converted IIM INDORE and was waitlisted in IIM CALCUTTA. Now converted IIM CALCUTTA. The real game begins now. That is when I had the long chat with Sreeni Sir, to gain confidence and plan on how I should go about.

I realized that hard work never goes waste. I have resolved that I will continue to put in my hard yards, and will have the belief that, it will pay off in the end. Best wishes for the CAT aspirants.
