  2. thnx for the above article .it was really useful.i was waiting for CAT 2013 dates as i am currently doing preparation of CAT.however ,i need little help from you.i am doing preparation of CAT 2013 and simultaneously doing a job. so i am thinking to enroll @ http://www.wiziq.com/course/9277-lr-vr-di-ds-speed-calculations-quant-general-awareness to stay in touch with studies. my question is that should i join any online course??? is it worth to spend money on them.???

    • Rashi, I have not gone thru the course so would not be able to suggest. However this is at best a QADI course and will be insufficient. While I have not interacted with Ravi Handa, he is known to be a good faculty.

  3. Hi Gp Sir,
I am sanjana and i am a NIFT (Textile design ) student .
my acads are as follows :
    X- 84.3 %
    XII (science ) – 86.2%
    graduation – CGPA – 9.05/10

i gave CAT last year but as i did not get enough time for preparation , so screwed the attempt completely. this time i have started my preparations sincerely. i want to know what are my chances of getting into Prestigious IIM’s ?
also sir, please tell me what should be my strategy as i have started giving mocks and my score in them lie between 40%-50%) really worried !! :
    regards,
    sanjana

    • Sanjana, you have 3 distinct advantages over most of the candidates for MBA:
      1. Academics: with very good marks in X, XII and Graduation which are given decent weightage by most of the IIMs, especially the top ones you have a head start over most of the MBA aspirants.
      2. Fashion Graduate: Since you are not an engineer some of the IIMs will give marks on account of academic diversity.
      3. Gender: Again some of the IIMs give marks to female MBA aspirants on account of gender diversity.

Obviously the above will be helpful only if you get a minimum of 97%ile in CAT. With respect to you preparation hope you have brushed up your fundamentals of QA, DI and English. Marks in mocks and actual paper are a function of decent knowledge and most importantly the ability to apply the knowledge to the right questions. So if your question selection is not upto the mark then you will not be able to get a good score. Please go through the following posts on this blog for more details:

  4. Hello Sir,
As mock CATs have already started. Can u please tell when is the right time to start taking Mocks or what all preparation should go before we start the Mock journey?Should we complete our quant preparation before attempting or can we go with for it now itself?
And if we go now, how should we analyse these tests?
Please give an insight to it.
    Thanks
    Chirag

  5. Dear Sir,

I started my preparation 2 months ago, and m a student at CL-Chandigarh.
I m writing to seek guidance from u on how should i be preparing now. I wrote XAT’13 (without much prep) and got a low score.
I just have completed my graduation in engg. and have all the time to devote to my preparation.
my present section wise scenario is:

DI and reasoning: with the little experience i ve, i can say i m not good at DI, yes i mean “data interpretation” when i say DI. m not afraid of calculations but its the comprehension part that m not good at.
Please guide me on how to get started on this section.

Verbal: i think i fall into the ‘dreamer’ category in RC’s and Critical Reasoning section. My mentor at CL-chd says that i think way too deeply about the question and end up mixing my opinion sometimes. i am trying to analyse myself, and have improved a little but not much.

Vocab i wud say is below average. and most of the grammar i do is by common sense/gut feeling.

Quant : owing to my school days, i have always been good at it. but seems like the 4 years in engg. have had a negative impact and slowed me down.

I m confident that i can catch up, just now sure what should be my plan with just 4 months to go for CAT.

    Regards
    Gunjan
