Not an ordinary B-school – Bennett University

Bennett University is an upcoming university offering two year full-time residential MBA program at its campus in Greater Noida. With the Bennett & Coleman Group’s legacy and patronage, Bennett University comes across as an extremely promising prospect for MBA candidates who are yet to find an avenue worth going for. This would be the college’s first batch and even in its year of inception, it stands tall and much ahead of quite a few established B-schools. What puts it in such a good stead is the one of its kind Bennett Job Guarantee Scheme along with a formidable line-up of academicians and industry people ruling the roost at Bennett.

Bennett University has brought together industry leaders, ex-Deans and professors of the top institutes. Prof. Dr. Saji Gopinath, Ex-Dean of IIM Kozhikode – now at Bennett, has an extremely positive and growth oriented vision for Bennett. The school’s academic curriculum is designed to provide the students with a platform for holistic learning. Electives shall be offered to students in the functional areas of Marketing, Finance, HR, Operations, Entrepreneurship and Information Technology & Systems.

This is backed up the Bennett Job Guarantee Scheme mentioned above.   In order to give its students a good head start right after MBA, Bennett University would ensure that every MBA student of its first batch gets placed at any of the companies of the Times Group with a package of at least 7.5 LPA. This kind of a job guarantee scheme coming from the Times Group makes it a much better option that most of the B-schools out there. Students must see it as a ray of hope and must apply to create another great avenue for themselves.

Bennett University is currently looking at a batch of 90 students. Students seeking admission at Bennett University are required to have qualified either one out of the CAT, XAT and GMAT exams. Students applying through CAT and XAT should have scored at least a 70%ile in the exam. Shortlisted candidates would be called for the Personal Interview which shall be held in Noida, Delhi, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Patna, Jaipur, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Consistency and a decent academic record is what Bennett University is looking for. Relevant work experience (if any) that brings value to the classroom learning will be appreciated however it is more of a desire than a necessity for this dynamic program. Needless to say, any extra-curricular achievements reflecting leadership qualities, contribution to the society and a well –rounded personality will help you get an edge over the others in the stage-2 of the selection process.

For a fresher aspiring for a good B-school which ensures holistic learning and good placements, Bennett University becomes an extremely valid option. Not only would he start off his career at a reputed Times company, he would begin at a handsome remuneration much above what any other B-school could offer at such an innate stage.

The tuition fee of the MBA program is INR 6 Lacs per year along with additional hostel Charges of INR 1 lab per year. This makes it something around 14 Lacs for the complete MBA program. This is to be seen in the context of the other new B-schools charging the same amount of money but offering degrees (and job offers) that are not worth the paper they are printed on.

Interested students be informed that the last date of submission of the application form is 30th  April 2016. Students must apply through CL’s College Network which is a platform that allows a student to apply to multiple colleges by filling up just one application form. Moreover, the platform also offers heavy discounts on the application fee for, both, CL and non-CL students. The results of the PIs are usually announced within 5 days of the PI and hence you can consider this as a serious option to create another confirmed opportunity for yourself, that too in a matter of days.

    • Kushagra, FMS BHU is a decent institute in terms of placements, but ROI is not high. You should aim for better B-schools.

  1. Dear sir,
I am a B.tech final year student . I took Cat last year but result was below expectations. I am preparing for this year exams. I have two job offers. One is TCS and another is in railway at junior engineer post. Since I will be graduating next month, which job I should prefer?? If I work for railways , will that experience be relevant??
Profile: X 85% XII 87.4% ( both state board) and grads: 74% approx
Os my profile is good to get a call from top IIMs?? Thank you

    • Goutam, you can take any offer. It will definitely add to your profile. Your profile is decent. You should aim to score good percentile in CAT’16.

  2. Hello gp sir

I a mechanical engineer with 5 years of work ex, and due to some family issues I have to leave my last job. Now I m jobless for almost 2 years, and current m 31. I have appeared for cat 15 but my score was not good, and the only call m having is from IBS Hyderabad. Should i join IBS Hyderabad…please suggest …thanks.

    • Naman, given your work experience IBS Hyderabad will not add much to your profile. you should target executive MBA programms by top B school. Bennett University is one such option specially because of its job guarantee scheme of a minimum of 7.5LPA. You must consider applying to Bennett.

  3. Hi GP,

I am waitlisted at 585 in IIM Kashipur and at 933 in IIM Raipur.

I have a call from SIBM Pune too. What should be my decision considering my chances of conversion?

    • Mukesh, there are slim chances of conversion IIM Kashi and IIM Raipur. You must wait, otherwise SIBM Pune is a good option as well.

  4. Hello Sir,

I am having 38 months of experience in IT industry as of now.
2015 CAT score was not good enough.
With my work ex. should I reappear for CAT 2016? Or should I prepare for GMAT and then try for 1 year full time MBA Programs at IIMs. I am really confused. Please suggest.

    Thanks in advance.

    • Sayoni, given your work experience you should go for executive MBA. Prepare for GMAT and target ISB Hyderabad.

  5. Hi GP,
Waitlist status for newer IIMs is as follows:
    IIM Raipur 933
    IIM Kashipur 585
    IIM Udaipur 1370
    IIM Nagpur Waitlist-II

Apart from this, I have a call from SIBM Pune. From what all I have got to know, SIBM pune has everything that B-school should offer. But newer IIMs(if converted) is a temptation too hard to resist.

What can be the best decision in this scenario, considering session ar SIBM Pune starts on June 1?

    • Mukesh, you have slim chance of converting any of the above call. In this case, you should look forward to join SIBM P. Since it is one of the best B-school in India. Also, given all your options IIM Raipur and SIBM P are the best options for you.

  6. RESPECTED SIR

AT SIMS, PUNE THERE IS STILL NO WAIT LIST HAS BEEN UPDATED AFTER THE FIRST WAIT LIST, NOR I HAVE BEEN GIVEN ANY OFFICIAL RESPONSE FROM THE COLLEGE ABOUT OUR FINAL RESULT, THE WEBSITE STILL SHOWING OLD LINK OF GD PI PROCESS,

SIR NOW I HAVE ALSO STARTED CONSIDERING MY OTHER OPTIONS AS WELL, BUT SHOULD I STILL BE HOPEFUL OF ADMISSION FROM SIMS AS TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE AND ITS COURSE STARTING FROM 1ST WEEK OF JUNE

PS : SIR IS THERE ANY TRUTH BEHIND THE RUMORS IN SIMS THAT THERE THE WAIT LIST HARDLY MOVES INTO 20 WHEREAS COMPARED TO OTHER COLLEGES WHERE WAIT LIST GENERALLY MOVES AROUND 100

    • Sunil, you should consider other options as well. At least one cutoff is expected to come. You should stay hopeful for the convert.

  7. Hi Sir,

    My profile is as follows:

    Xth – 76.22

    XII – 82.85

    B,Tech – 83.6

Work Ex – 2.5 yrs at present in IT Industry

    CAT 2015 – 88.8 percentile

I am retaking CAT. What percentile should i target to get calls from top IIM’s?

      • Hi Sir, I am actually an Ex CL student (classroom) and currently enrolled for test series in CL. I have used the IIM profilizer… But I am a bit concerned about my 10th marks… Will it be a hurdle in top institutes like IIMs FMS IIFT MDI XLRI SIBM SCMHRD etc

        • Ayan, your class X percentage is decent. It will not pose any hurdle in any institute. Infact, FMS lays less emphasis on your academic score. It gives more weightage to your performance in CAT and interview for final selection.

  8. Sir I am an Ex- CL. Scored 89% in MAT FEB 2016, it’s been a year since i am unemployed. Should i prepare this year too or go for MBA/PGDM.
If so what should be my order of preference out of BIMM Pune, AIMS Bangalore, Jaipuria Noida/lucknow, IMS Ghaziabad. Also, is any other good school i still can apply in ?
    Please I need guidance fast.
    Thanks in advance

    • Akhil, these colleges will not give much boost to your profile. You should try for better B-schools. Take CAT and the other MBA exams. Take up a job and prepare along with it.
However, the order of preference should be BIMM Pune, Jaipuria Noida, AIMS, IMS Ghaziabad.

  9. Sir,
IMI Delhi has been a lot in the news for the past one year. How is the college? Do you advice to join the college? Is it in the league of NMIMS, SIBM, IMT?

    • Aspirant, IMI Delhi has shown decent placements in recent years. It is a good institute. However, SIBM P and NMIMS are relatively better than the IMI or IMT.

  10. Dear sir ,
    I am a CL student of batch’16.
I am preparing for all the top MBA entrance exams to be held in 2016 and I am working my level best to crack these.
I wanted to ask you ,
    I’m a bcom(hons) graduate from Delhi University of batch’14.
I come from a business family so I have worked with my father for 2 years & I want to pursue MBA in finance and join my father later again.
Will a work ex in a corporate/MNC be a problem for me in the selection process of A grade MBA colleges.
    My academics are – class 10th: 87% class 12th:91% & bcom(hons) average : 62.4%.

    Please help me in this.
    Thank you.

    • Arun, your work experience will not hamper your profile, in fact it is a plus point. You should prepare well for the CAT’16 and aim top B-schools.

  11. i am final year student pursuing B.Tech in mining engineering from ism dhanbad.i want to do higher studies in top universities either an MBA in india or MBA/MS in business/ analytics/ finance related fields outside india. I want to give CAT and GRE/GMAT this year and want to build my profile accordingly.so i need your suggestions on what to focus more from career options and what all should be done this year effectively to achieve it

    • Vamshi, you have shortlisted decent career options for yourself. Masters or MBA degree will definitely give an edge to your profile. You can refer to our study plan which will act preparation guide. Target top B-schools to benefit your profile.

  12. Hi sir,
My profile X,XII,BTech(Nanotech)-80/79/81.My recent converts are imt nag,imi bhub and ibs hyd,
I am 2015 pass out which means 1 year gap and it is almost impossible to get a job after Btech in nano-technology. What option should I choose among these three or should i drop another year to prepare for mba entrance with no job in hand.

    • Dushyant, these institutes will not boost your porfile. If you are unable to find a job in your field, try searching job in different domain. Prepare along with the job and retake CAT.

  13. Sir I am working for SAIL(Electrical Engr.) in Iron Ore Mining with a work-exp of 4 years. I want to pursue MBA specializing in operations management or supply chain management. I want to write CAT this year and am not able to decide to which colleges to target (IIM’s or XLRI or NITIE etc., ) considering my work-ex and specialization. Could you please suggest me? Thank you.

  14. Sir,
    10-68(2002)
    12-68(2004)
    BBM-67 (2008-2011)
    W/EX-6 months in Deutsche Bank(2012)

    my age is 30 yrs.

could you please guide me as to which option(below) should i opt for-
1.regular mba from a normal college.
2.join entry level job in BFSI and do certain certifications like CFP,CWM,etc

    I appeared in Cat 2011 and got 80.29%ile .

How do see the career as a faculty in coaching institutions for govt. job like Bank/ssc/nda,etc.
some ppl are advising that you can not take it as a long term career option because PSBs(ibps) is reducing vacancies 20k -13k from 2011-2015 for po.
    Thank you

    • Afeef, since you have not mention anything we are assuming that you have year gap of four years from 2012-2016. If yes, this gap year will not help you in MBA. You should work as a faculty for exams and along with that take up certification courses such as CFP, CWM to add to your profile.

  15. hello Sir,

    I have the following options:

    1. KJ SIMSR (PGDM RM and PGDM COMM)
    2. KJ SIMSR MMS ( likely to convert an ILS seat at a score of 98.88 in cet)
    3. Bennett University (last option, worst case scenario, yet to apply)

I have 2 years of workex in IT.
please suggest the most feasible option in terms of ROI and career prospectives.

    Thanks,

    Really confused..Pls suggest!!!!!!
    Regards
    Ankit

    • Ankit, you should prepare along with your job. The hardwork and practice is pre-requisite for scoring good in any exam. Take up as many mocks as possible.
you can also refer to the link STUDY PLAN for better preparation.

  18. Please help i have 2 options biib (balaji institute of international business) pgdm finance or itm navi mumbai finance? Which is better im terms of roi nd studies or popularity?

    • Viky, there’s a minute difference the two colleges. However, ITM Navi Mumbai has shown better placements and has location advantage.
However, these institutes will not add much to your profile. You should aim for better B schools

  19. Dear Sir,

    I’ve got 67.75%ile in XAT.
    DM-81
    VA-80
    QA-31

Can I get any decent B-School?
    Can I convert Bennett University?

    Thanks,
    Amit

    • Amit, none of the decent B-schools, apart from the Bennett University, will be available to you at this percentile. Bennett is actually an extremely good option due to their 7.5LPA Job Guarantee scheme.

You must apply to Bennett by logging on to CL College Network . Since you have a slightly lower percentile you must mail your application request at gautam.bawa@careerlauncher.com as well. Applying on CL’s College Network is a must.

  20. Hi Sir,

I am a fresher in the final year of my B.Com. I secured 95.2 percentile in MAT and got admission offers from AIMS, Myra and Kirloskar. I am waiting to hear back from Great lakes and IFIM. Kindly advice which among the above five colleges would be the best option for me placement wise. If any other college accepting MAT with my percentile, please suggest. Thanks

    • Prakash, depends on your profile. If you have a decent profile then you should consider going for better B-schools by retaking CAT in 2016.
