  1. my biggest problem is calculation mistakes and using concepts which does not solve questions , just eat out my time..

    • Ankur, 3-4 revisions of important questions from Mock CAT and past CAT papers is required. This will ensure that you do not apply unnecessary concepts in the question.To avoid calculation errors, please write down the calcultions.

    • Kanika, I don’t attempt passages from subjects that I am uncomfortable with until and unless all the paasages are from the uncomfortable areas. In which case I glance thru the questions and then read the passage so that I know what I am looking for.

  3. sir, i face problem in parajumbles i can’t get sure whether it’s correct or not chances are that 50% correct & wrong. so how to be sure on that.

  5. how to improve the score in RC,,feeling not well in that area. specially give suggestion for OUT OF CONTEXT type question,,which r started in CAT 2011, where i can get d source for practice OUT OF CONTEXT type question .

    We really need some ways to deal with RC sir.Am not a voracious reader so RC is one of the key areas which am not able to deal with in my paper.Morover we need your help in sentence completion and sentence correction and guidence about how to prepare in these last days to make optimum utilisation of our time so that we can avoid pressing the panic button.

    Thanx for your previous blogs..those are really a booster.
    I am also like to see a dedicated blog from you on RC…mostly the questions based on inference and title…and with around 20 odd minutes to left in hand how to tackle three RCs (rather hw to choose best 2 out of 3 that can be solved easily.

    Finally if you throw some light on how to manage time in Sec-2, then it will be of great help….:)

    i am a die hard fan of your techniques…your suggestion on working out the silly mistakes really pays off :)….I have one more query,can u help me out find a way to stablize my performance,i mean at times i feel that due to lack of concentration i am not able to give my 100%.
    there are times when i score 95+ %iles and then sometimes my attention diverts and my score plunges back in 80s.

  12. Sir,i think we have prepared for a fair amount of time.
    We have been giving procs and unprocs..but what exactly should be our action plan for the next 60 days,besides giving tests?

    What should make an ideal attempt in an Cat paper?(based on past experiences)

    As CAT is less than 2 months away .I will request you to conduct a Smart quant cracker Seminar in Bangalore.
    By now most of us have already covered the key concepts which are regularly asked in Bschool entrances .So,This is the perfect time to learn some tricks to solve quant questions.
    and one topic in LR in which I always feel uncomfortable is solving cube questions (to find cubes with 0,1,2,3 faces painted).
    Please explain these questions in your future post..

    Rc’s of course needs attention like everyone mentioned. Besides that i am looking fwd to the following :
    1) LR sets .. { Types of sets asked frequently in CAT ; How to crack them in less time.. Usually it takes a lot of time to solve the sets irrespective of the difficulty level }
    2) Para Completion ( always get this wrong. Should i leave them in the upcoming mocks?? )
    3) Fill in the blanks ( Vocab based.. Always get trapped between 2-3 options)

  17. Sir, Please throw some light on the “typical no. of questions to be attempted in each section” and “the importance of wrong to correct ratio” in CAT.

    • I support Arjun’s recommendation. Even I would like you sir to throw some light on “Optimum no. of attempts(Roughly)” to get above 99% overall. I know sir, it can’t be predicted but still if any rough idea

  18. I too would like to know about best way to manage time in the VA/LR section. In every test I give, usually I have 3 RCs and 3 LR questions. If I go for all the three LR, I am left with very less time for RCs, around 20 minutes for 3 passages. So, I am able to just do either one or two of the passages. Many a times , it leads to “Missed Opportunity”. If I go through RCs first, I miss some LR questions. So, I need to know the appropriate trade-offs.

  20. Sir please throw some light on how to solve RC’s in the smart quant cracker way. RC’s similar to the ones found in CL PROC MOCK 6 are difficult to tackle. Inspite of being a voracious reader i m unable to solve all the questions in a given RC correctly. Also the questions like “What is the title of the passage” and sometimes the TONE of the passage seem ambigous..HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY. Huge fan of yours and your blogs are the best mentor.

      i face the same problem in RCs..i was unable to crack the RCs in mock 6.And also i do not know how to approach question related to tone of the passage and choosing an appropriate title for the passage.
      Please help.

        • I agree. “Tone” of RC came in 2 questions of my set of CAT ’11. And I couldn’t do them. The choices were too close. We really need some help in solving RC. Also, “What is the central theme of the RC passage”.
